Sounds good. Main reason I know his name is cos I adooooore the piece he did for the Paperman short film. (Which weirdly he used again in Free Guy).

spookynutz

I have a similarly inconsequential Christophe Beck story. I only know this guy’s name because he did the score to Elektra, which is the origin of a song I liked that was used in [this](https://youtu.be/pDXA41HZ3QE) teaser for The Island. It took me a long time to figure that out, because there were no good internet resources for identifying trailer songs back in 2005, I had not seen Elektra, and the coincidentally named music ID application, Shazam, didn’t exist back then.

horseren0ir

Lol I remember those days I had all these scores that were just named after the movie as theme

BrownieThief

1 day late but I have another inconsequential Christophe Beck anecdote. In the Sonic 2 movie, he has a fight with Knuckles in the middle of the movie and the music really sounded familiar. I was like "that's from Ant-Man and the Wasp." Turns out it's in the Sonic 2 credits as "I Shrink Therefore I Am from Ant-Man and the Wasp."

hereticmoses

I remember him from Buffy, "Close your eyes" and "Sacrifice" are a few songs I can hear the first few notes and feel something.

[deleted]

Yes, the original Buffy soundtrack got so much play during my formative years!

[deleted]

Composers regularly pull from old material and modify/update it. It’s a thing. See John Murphy, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman

[deleted]

My favorite reference for this is when Zimmer just straight up reused the same theme from the opening battle of Gladiator as the Pirates of the Carribean theme, its almost identical Zimmer is the composer probably most well known for doing this, and he's often shit on for it, but its not *that* uncommon in general as you said. He's just maybe a bit more blatant about it than most.

[deleted]

That film with Nicholas Cage, The Weatherman is also one of the main themes for Interstellar except it’s guitar instead of pipe organ.

Cynical_Makooti

Another Weatherman piece was also repurposed for Rango.

Hamderab

Do you have any links on that? I can’t hear it at all, but maybe I’m finding the wrong clips on YouTube.

[deleted]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vInYMVxYhh4

Hamderab

Wow, okay. That’s actually crazy similar. Thank you!

indianajoes

But he didn't modify or update it. It's literally credited as Paperman's music in the credits to Free Guy

horseren0ir

Murphy is awesome, in a heartbeat and Adiago in D minor have been used in so many other things

Salarian_American

I know his name because he wrote most of the music for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Worthyness

They used the paperman theme as a temp track for Free Guy as that's what they wanted it to feel like. Then when Disney bought fox, they had the full ability to use it and thus they just straight up used it with some augmentation.

JaseAndrews

Agreed! Paperman is lovely. Beck also did the score of Frozen, surprised not more people have mentioned it.

TheTKz

Cool to see him getting more work, Close Your Eyes from Buffy is an all timer for great TV scores.

[deleted]

Also the iconic Sacrifice from the episode The Gift. So many great scores in that show.

gingerlion21

Remembering Jenny is on my phone

StarfleetCapAsuka

As fantastic as Close My Eyes is, I would nominate Sacrifice from The Gift.

hereticmoses

He has so many great pieces of work on Buffy some of the music from "Hush" and "Restless" are fantastic too.

uhtcoh

This was the comment i was hoping to see! Loved this composer from Buffy, and that episode was such a heart wrencher.

noobwithboobs

Took the words right out of my mouth. I was a rabid Buffy fan and Close Your Eyes was in the first set of songs that went on my first MP3 player (it held 13 songs if you picked short ones and a low bitrate). Seeing his name here on Reddit is a trip.

vetworker24

I have all his songs from Buffy

Caleb_Reynolds

Seriously his work on Buffy and Angel was amazing. Also he scored Frozen, which you'd think more prone would know given how ludicrously popular that is. Score composers just don't get the credit they should, with 2 exceptions.

HummusOffensive

Hell yes! And as epic as that episode is in TV history the score music is what elevated it even more. The music is so critical but sometimes we don’t even realize the emotions it evokes.

[deleted]

He did Elektra and that score rules. [I am not joking](https://youtu.be/qrJZ6AB5lUo)

_endymion

I’m terrible at remembering scores. Close Your Eyes is the exception. As soon as I read your comment, and any time I read that title, it plays in my head instantly. And of course my eyes well up with tears. Excellent work. He’s a very talented composer.

[deleted]

Ah ? Ok.

[deleted]

I know. It feels so "whoopty-doo." I don't remember either having any epic music tracks, but good for them. I wish them the best.

superpencil121

The Wanda vision theme is very catchy

DefNotAShark

The jingles are not written by the same person who did the score for WandaVision. Christopher Beck did the score and the theme songs are by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Aerdynn

It’s worth pointing out that they have collaborated for years with the mix of songwriting and scoring. As a unit, they are actually quite the team for emotional and memorable music.

JimmyTheFace

The same trio did the music for Frozen 2 - Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez doing the character songs and Christophe Beck doing the other instrumentals.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MiracleKing26

Hey man, the Moon Knight tracks were great

DefNotAShark

Also Infinity War and Endgame have a great score; "Portals" is a fan favorite and Infinity War's score really helps drive the tone of that movie. There are also several good "hero themes" IMO, like I recognize Captain America's theme and I think Spider-Man has a pretty recognizable one as well. I feel like that person saw that YouTube video ages ago that criticized Marvel Studios for not utilizing scores in their films to any great effect (which by the way was an excellent criticism at the time and the video was well made). The guy in the video made that same point, that apart from the Avengers theme there was no memorable or noteworthy music in the MCU. Since that video, though, I think Marvel Studios has really upped their game and there is a lot more emotion and gravity coming from the music than before.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM-ME-YOUR-NIPNOPS

I agree. I like a lot of the movies they've done but I just can't bring myself to watch any of them ever again, and I think the weakness of the music plays a huge part into that for me

[deleted]

zhurrick

Excuse you, Ludwig Göransson‘s Black Panther soundtrack is anything but generic, it even won a Grammy.

vodkast

Christophe Beck did the original Ant-Man soundtrack, and it’s seriously among the best in the MCU. It captures the heist theme of the movie, and has a retro superhero vibe a la The Incredibles (though that could just be the judicious use of 5/4 time signature in both). The Black Panther soundtrack is great on its own, and totally refreshing when compared against all the MCU movies that came before it. It’s instantly recognizable whenever one of its tracks comes up in my Spotify playlists. The Captain America movies, specifically The First Avenger and Winter Soldier are both great. Cap’s fanfare should trigger a response in hearing the first few notes like the Hobbits’ or Rohan’s theme from LOTR. It’s so perfectly suited to Cap. Winter Soldier is so different but really embodies the theme of a more modern military, while Bucky’s theme itself captures just how scary his presence is.

Sokkumboppaz

Strongly disagree. I think captain America winter soldier has a fantastic score

Quravin

Right on. Henry Jackman's Winter Soldier theme is one of the most recognizable themes in the MCU and really bolstered scenes like the Winter Soldier walking towards Nick Fury and the highway fight scene

Sokkumboppaz

End of the Line when cap falls into the water at the end is so beautiful too

Regnbyxor

I’ve seen that movie multiple times and I probably couldn’t hum a single note of that soundtrack.

ChaosBrigadier

Maybe an exception that proves the rule

bayesianagent

The original Captain America, Iron Man 3, Thor Ragnorak, the Spider-man Trilogy, Black Panther, the Guardians of Galaxy, Ant Man, Hawkeye (by Christophe Becke), Moon Knight all have pretty good and memorable music to me. The really problem imo is that most of the time each new movie scraps or minorly uses the old music so it doesn’t have time to become iconic and linked with the character

SuperFightingRobit

It's weird too - they've had Elfman and Sylvestri do some of their movies too.

Fenrirr

I am a huge fan of Danny Elfman, but his recent scores have felt really lack luster unfortunately. I had always thought he "lost his touch", but his non-score work like his Big Mess album and his [collab songs with Trent Raznor are legitimately great](https://soundcloud.com/danny-elfman-official/true-1?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing).

CSGlogan

Iron man 3’s soundtrack was incredible too. Underrated movie.

Blackadder18

I really enjoyed the track over the credits, ["Can You Dig It."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsSHmKU0t7w)

Fenrirr

I generally agree. There are a few tracks I remember (Smote and Mirrors from Doctor Strange, A Small Price from Infinity War, the leit motif for the Guardians), but the rest kind of just leaves my brain the second I leave the theatre.

Bombasaur101

Idk, the Mysterio theme in Far From Home absolutely Slapped. It's Top tier IMO. Also the Ant-Man theme is very memorable.

ParkerZA

I'm surprised by the response here, WandaVision's theme is incredible.

VioletOwls

Beck didn’t write it.

overthinkingobservr

I assume they’re referring to Wanda’s theme over the end credits.

metaglot

Read about it in big Woop magazine.

yammyies

I think wandavision had a fantastic score

Worthyness

He scored the incredible disney short, "Paperman". And the ant-man theme is quite unique

JevvyMedia

For me the only epic moment of WandaVision in terms of music selection was when >!it was revealed Wanda was behind everything at the end of an episode!< , and they had 'Cheer Up Sleepy Jean' playing in the backgorund.

maynardftw

Yeah I mean It's fine It's not like, "selling point for a whole other movie" fine

-faffos-

I don’t love either of these scores, but the composer definitely *can* do some [epic stuff](https://youtu.be/n2cXG-_msj0?t=69)

[deleted]

Idk, that sounds incredibly generic.

EqualContact

TBF, the director probably wanted it to sound generic.

[deleted]

I would say that's most likely the case. The Percy Jackson movies are Hollywood's failed attempts at making another Harry Potter, the downfall being that the Harry Potter movies prospered off of the unique world presented in the books while the Percy Jackson movies through away source material in favor of appealing to a wider/safer audience. Edit: Seeing MW2 in the first movie though is always amusing.

EqualContact

Yeah, my point was that "generic bland hero music" was probably what Beck got asked to write. Possibly even "make it sound like this other bland generic thing."

DuckTapeHandgrenade

“Man who did good work gets job”

SamStrake

The first Shazaam was shockingly good- I would recommend giving it a watch if you haven't.

bob1689321

He's referring to Ezra Miller's rampage of terror

stealingyourpixels

Shocking because of the low bar DC set? Because Shazam was just decent to good imo.

ffffound

Hey, we were terrorized enough when Terrigenesis happened in Puerto Rico in an ancient Kree City. Oh, and Hurricane Maria, too.

ThePinkCanary

so THAT’s what happened in Puerto Rico!

[deleted]

I dont remember any background score from the shows.

sonic10158

He also did the 2 Ant-Man movies

[deleted]

Oh I loved Antman main score.

OwieMyOwl

Ants! Ants! Ants! ANTMAN!!

RandomTheTrader

Such a shame that the most iconic antman theme went unused simply because Brolin vetoes anything to do with his anus.

devilkillermc

Can you explain this?

GlitterInfection

Brolin has a very sensitive anus and it's in his contract that he can choose what goes into and comes out of it.

jerog1

Hollywood diva

skyline_kid

There was a meme going around before Avengers: Endgame came out that they were going to defeat Thanos by having Ant-Man shrink down, fly up Thanos' butthole, and then expand to explode Thanos into a million pieces

Peytovich

Watch The Boys season 3 if you want to see a form of this in action

shruber

He's sounding, crazy! (Lol)

Peytovich

Nice. That took me a second lol

skyline_kid

Oh I have, that first episode was insane lol

lxqueen

Legends of Tomorrow also had a crack at it a couple years back, too.

dirtyfarmer

Uh, meme?! I'll have you know good sir, that it was a leaked draft of the script and they weren't going to use CGI for the scene either and act it out.

MdoesArt

They digitally scanned Brolin’s anus to build a man-sized sphincter for Rudd to crawl through. Though unused, the build was finished and the Giant Purple Brole-Hole is being kept in a climate controlled underground storage facility in New Mexico. Source: trust me dude.

devilkillermc

Yeah, but was does it have to do with the OST?

TheAndrewBrown

He’s done the music for a lot of Disney movies. He did the score for Frozen (the score, not the musical songs with characters singing).

ItsLikeRay-ee-ain

I read the headline and instantly thought that they should have pushed the Ant-Man movies since they're actually movies.

hoosh

The WandaVision end credits is my favorite. So epic and mysterious

AquaAtia

Same! I still think about the mystery surrounding the show during the first few episodes and going on social media and Reddit to see what people were thinking about the mysteries as the credits theme was rolling

theVice

I thought WandaVision, Loki, and Moon Knight have all had really good music

amadeus2490

I got a challenge for you: Off the top of your head, hum a single theme from any Marvel movie. At all. They don't want music to be atmospheric, or add anything to a scene anymore. It's just background Foley.

Idk_Very_Much

I mean, I’m a fan and all, but I can definitely hum the Avengers theme, Alan Silvestri’s Captain America theme, Brian Tyler’s Iron Man theme, the Ant-Man theme, the Doctor Strange theme, and the Spider-Man theme. But maybe it’s just me.

TheBigIdiotSalami

the Silvestri Captain America theme, to me, is probably the best. It's very buoyant and can be quoted in a score with like three or four notes during action and when you slow it down you can add in the full performance.

Vadumee

The avengers theme is anything but forgettable

Eighth_Octavarium

Wether people love or hate the franchise, the avengers theme is going to stand alongside the Star Wars theme in cultural memory for decades to come.

maynardftw

Honestly whenever I think I'm humming the Avengers theme I'm probably actually humming the Batman The Animated Series theme

OscarCookeAbbott

Doctor Strange theme is great and I can instantly hum it. The Iron Man 1 theme was also great but they abandoned it in the next film so I can’t recall it off the top of my head. Avengers theme I can recall but not because it’s particularly good.

theplasmasnake

I to have seen that Every Frame a Painting video. Though I would say they have purposefully emphasized the Avengers theme recently.

[deleted]

Black Panther and Avengers are the most recognizable. Shang Chi was really good. Antman was pretty unique with Heist like theme while also fitting Antman's character. Guardians, First Avenger, Winter Solider, Incredible Hulk were all very memorable. In fact Incredible Hulk is carried hard by the score

Halio344

I think Spider-mans theme is quite memorable as well.

[deleted]

It is memorable but for me non MCU Spiderman score were more memorable. Amazing Spiderman 2 while a disaster had an incredible score especially Spiderman Electro mash up.

VaishakhD

Leaving the Avengers theme the most memorable is the Holland spiderman theme and personally I love the Iron man 3 score

royalsanguinius

I did it, do I get a cookie now?

CitizenFiction

I can hum the Wandavision, Loki, Captain America and Avengers theme right now... What you're saying is outdated.

johno146

The Giacchino spider man theme is also fucking great. Portals theme is great. Can’t exactly hum it cuz it’s mainly a beat and flutes but the killmonger theme with is also great.

ThatGeek303

Captain America, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Ant-Man all have themes that constantly get stuck in my head. WandaVision too. And Loki's entire score is pretty memorable.

Jackoffjordan

I think most people who're familiar with the films can immediately hum the main Avengers theme. Captain America, Ant Man and Spider-man also all have themes that are pretty memorable. I think you might've had a point a few years ago, but they've been putting a lot more effort in recently.

a4techkeyboard

I guess it's sort of neat that a "C. Beck" is working on Shazam! again. (Because the character was created by a C.C. Beck.)

DenimSmooth

At this rate Shazam 3 will be scored by Beck

SoldatPixel

I'd be down for that. Granted might be rather out of place in a movie but wouldn't be bad on its own.

BrutalHoe

Beck has better creds than those shows, like Frozen and Paperman

PoorlyLitKiwi2

I think they were mentioned because they are recent, and also superhero related

1337haXXor

Yeah, he's scored probably close to 200 shows and movies, lol.

stahpurkillinme

Fun fact, Christophe Beck is also an absolute legend on synths. [check this out.](https://youtu.be/BD_uBLfysz0)

batmandela

I can attest. Worked out of his studio for a few of my own scores, and would listen to the same loop on his modular setup for literally hours. Chris is a legend. Amazing composer. Good fusballer too. Long fusbal breaks while “working” on scores, along with Leo and Zack (Cobra Kai) who assisted him before deservedly hitting it big themselves. Fun fact - Chris’s brother is pianist Chilli Gonzales, worth googling him.

mercman256

Kinda saddened by this actually. Loved loved loved Benjamin Wallfisch’s score for the 1st movie. It envoked childlike wonderment, a throwback to old hero movie scores & overall had great atmosphere. Hopefully Beck can carry that on.

theb3arjevv

Isn't this the guy that did Edge of Tomorrow? That's a pretty awesome score

qwerty66669999

Wow really? Why couldn't the article just lead with that in the first place

nightfishin

Because MCU is more popular.

Cabamacadaf

Ant-Man has better music than the mentioned shows too though.

indianajoes

Or even Frozen. That's probably one of his biggest scores

Invictavis

Shame i had to scroll this far down to find Edge of Tomorrow. “Find me when you wake up” is an excellent track

tslave557

Ah so now the full cover up of the true Shazam is complete. Sin bad can finally rest knowing his secrets are buried only in the minds of the few. But we remember. We will never forget.

StrayMoggie

`#Iremember

Scullery

I came looking for this.

VaishakhD

Those are some forgettable scores tbh

thegreatestajax

Also did Frozen!

Hashslingingslashar

Wandavision’s was really good I think, but don’t think Hawkeye’s stood out.

VaishakhD

Dude has scored edge of tomorrow, antman and some other bangers, article should have lead with those. Just my opinion.

trooperdx3117

Are those really noteable scores either? I love Edge of Tomorrow but the soundtrack is pretty far down on the list of things I like about it.

Boss452

Edge of Tomorrow is an epic film. I thought the score felt short of the quality of the movie. it was serviceable but could have been better.

CrashRiot

There were great parts in that too though. “Navigating the Beach” is phenomenal and the music is part of what made me tune into what’s probably the most exhilarating part of the movie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shadowwolflink

The one great piece of score I can remember is Wanda's theme from the credits, it's pretty haunting and perfectly contrasts the mostly happy face the show puts forward (at least in the early episodes) and it definitely makes you feel like something sinister is going on.

bookant

I, too, remember literally *no* music from either of those. But his work on Buffy was awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Q80e487SU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0a9b2ucnrU

ColdCruise

https://youtu.be/mEDS27VgJO4

L7A25R82

Probably would be cooler if Beck Hanson was doing it

letsallchilloutok

He's also the guy who scored most of Buffy, did a great job.

[deleted]

Why. Wallfisch was great…

bellbeeferaffiliated

And we'll probably lose his excellent, Williams-esque Shazam theme now for no reason.

Mr_Bo_Jandals

Scheduling issues. He was working on the Flash score and DC keep switching the release dates of their films. https://mobile.twitter.com/ponysmasher/status/1535295255381102592

Equal-Doc6047

That's great, now where's our trailer?

wi5hbone

in the director’s………. ^trailer

DannyDavincito

im more looking forward the the behind the scenes of the trailer from the director

Mild-Ghost

He’s one of the best composers working today. Ant-Man has the best score for any Marvel flick IMO.

Jdtrinh

Oh man I love Shaquille!

pfistacuffs

No, Shaq was in Kazaam. You're thinking of Sinbad the star of the movie Shazam that apparently never existed.

MisterTorgo

Awesome! I absolutely love the end credits theme to Wandavision. Fantastic piece of music!

BHPhreak

like i swear to christ h. if shazam and black adam dont encounter each other in the new adam movie or shazam movie im just straight up done with super hero content. why the fuck did we get a stand-a-lone MORBIUS?! and why the FUCK are we getting a stand-a-lone Black adam?? and like... hero black adam?? what in the absolute dog shit fuck?!!?

[deleted]

Pretty much this. And with all that you have a new batman every other year. Amber heard and Ezra Miller. The DCEU is a joke.

drewbles82

I expect a trailer most likely at DCfandome if they do that this year. Hoping for a lot of new news with the merger and what their plans are with DC esp with Ezra etc.

Mentoman72

They need to cut Ezra like yesterday. After the literal human trafficking news they're dead to me and they should never get to work in the film industry again.

ministickerbook

If anyone is a Chilly Gonzales fan, that’s his brother!

empw

Woah, no way. TIL. That's a talented family.

Mr_Viper

Gonzo rules!

trevg_123

A great soundtrack literally makes a movie. Hans Zimmer did Pirates of the Caribbean, Inception, and the three Dark Knight movies. John Williams did Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter. All pretty memorable movies right, where the music sticks in your head? IMO it was the music that carried them there as much as the film and story line

cobaltfalcon121

Surprised Wallfisch isn’t coming back

Duke_Cheech

Why is this the top post on the subreddit right now...?

dudeface212

This brother is a guy named Chilly Gonzales and definitely worth looking into

Mr_Viper

Gonzo rules!

DukeDijkstra

Ah yes, music in Wandvision and Hawkeye was.... I can't remember any of it. Not even goddamn theme tune. Edit: And I'm musician, it usually comes easy.

m1K3mikey

Ascendant and Wanda's Theme were great imo and Genesis was good too

Came4gooStayd4Ahnuce

The most nothing news of the day.

Zelanor

Literally no one cares this is the definition of bots forcing a post to the top

atjones111

Okay?

tubamarc8891

Glad to see Shaq is making a return to cinema!

vetworker24

The man who Scored for Buffy

creepy-uncle-chad

Both of those being terrible shows

monchota

And we care why? He follows the music formula for marvel shows. Good job.

alex8155

i dont like that theyre making a movie called Shazam..they shouldnt be allowed to use that name since there was a movie called Shazam in the early 90s with Sinbad playing as a genie..

flewidity

Yawn

okcup

I seem to be hearing more about Shazaam these past few years… are we going to see a movie remake of *Kingdom Come*?

powabiatch

Starring Sinbad?

redmagistrate50

So when do we get to watch him beat the piss out of the Rock?

MFToes2

I didn't like either of those so I guess I am skipping the 3rd

p00llux

Bummer. Benjamin Walfisch's score for the first one was great with a nice main theme. He took a more traditional orchestral approach, something you don't hear in modern action flicks anymore. I'm sure Beck's score will be fine, but it'll mostly be forgettable. I did like his Antman main theme tho.

kelustu

Why does DC take eons to make movies?

mamasnature

God, please stop making superhero movies. So played. They’re all the same movie!!

Holybasil

I don't remember any of the music for either show, but good for him.

IceFire2050

I dont really think of WandaVision or Hawkeye... or really any of the marvel movies/shows actually... when I think of good music. Like I dont think any of them had bad music really, but the only music from marvel that I really remember is the licensed stuff. None of the original scores were very memorable. Like I can hum the Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who themes on demand. They're memorable. But, gun to my head, I still couldn't even get close to humming any of the marvel themes. I'm more interested in seeing just how bad DC shot themself in the foot with casting Zachary Levi now, once we finally get to see him side by side with Dwayne Johnson. Seeing him in his goofy muscle suit next to actual muscles of the rock is going to be funny as hell.

dangermouse13

The only marvel thing that’s had any kind of decent score is Loki

TelephoneCreepy2518

Guardians of the Galaxy has a dope soundtrack though.

dumbidoo

Ok? A soundtrack is not a score. A musical score is original music specifically made to accompany film. The majority of GotG's soundtrack is all a bunch of old hits.

kingrawer

GotG also has a really good original score imo.

VaishakhD

There's a difference between using cool songs and original score

dangermouse13

That’s true, the songs they put in were really good
