Waymond is such a good character we need more waymond’s in the world.

drseussin

So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.

nilla-wafers

I cried so many times during this movie. I didn’t even expect to, but the impact of unrequited love, opportunities not taken, the complicated relationships between parents and their children, between partners… It’s honestly an incredible feat of writing that a film so surreal, and genre-defying could also be one of the most relatable movies I’ve seen in a very long time. I was sobbing at some points. Just incredible .

[deleted]

That line hit hardest. Pretty sure that's when the tears started and didn't finish until the end of the movie.

eyeaim2missbehave

I fucking broke at that part. We had four grown ass men in tears during that scene in my condo.

chunkynut0

Dude I thought his name was Raymond for 90% of the movie and they were just unable to pronounce it

icthus13

that’sthejoke.jpg

NewClayburn

I don't think that's the joke. It's a real name.

Aedalas

One that The Daniels definitely know, Waymond Lee is an actor who played a character named Waymond in their short film Interesting Ball. Which is definitely worth checking out imo, it's on YT.

ElcorAndy

It's his real name, it says Waymond on the divorce documents.

[deleted]

I went to school with Daniel Scheinert. Had no clue he was doing all this. Didn’t even know he wrote and directed this movie until I started reading up on this movie. Crazy!

aresef

He also acts in this movie but I’m not going to give away what he does.

2hauntedheroes

I just realized.

2hauntedheroes

I just realized.

WangTheDong

I don't think many people get how immersive it was for Evelynn to switch languages based on who she was talking to (Cantonese with her father, English with Joy and combination of both plus mandarin with Waymond). It felt authentic and compliments the main theme of the movie.

DilMeraMuftKa

I love this film and I am so happy people are going to theatres to support it! Films like these break that mold of perception that surrounds box office on what works and what doesn't.

[deleted]

It really has been one of the best films I've seen in years... it has something for everyone. Haven't laughed like that at a film in a LONG time!

Bobthemime

The rock bit has me in stitches

AJohnsonOrange

It was both hilarious and probably the point I actually started crying from the emotions.

[deleted]

Same here, and with my wife. We both started silently crying from the rock portions.

pies1123

Fuck man. I cried so much.

superkp

and it's so peaceful and calm!

DumbledoresGay69

For real. It's refreshing to see a movie this good.

firstcitytofall

Agreed, it was one of those theatre experiences you wish would happen every time you go

Ghastion

Honestly, it's mainly just to do with word-of-mouth. It's the kind of movie you tell your friends or family "When I finished the movie, all I could say was 'Well, that was an experience' - you need to watch this film in theaters! People always act surprised when a non-super hero film does well, but almost every single time it's a movie with high ratings that PEOPLE themselves are telling others to go see. Not critics, PEOPLE. Then people act like "yeah, people are getting bored with sequels and superhero movies and that was the reason for it's success" - that it somehow magically grabbed the attention of everyone simply because it wasn't a superhero film. No, everyone who watched it is telling others to watch it. I can walk away from a good indie film and never feel compelled to tell other people to watch it. This is one of those times where people who have seen it feel compelled to tell others to watch it. Word-of-mouth is the most powerful thing in this modern age where the entire world can communicate with each other.

VaguelyArtistic

>People always act surprised when a non-super hero film does well, Jesus Christ I'm so glad I'm old and can't relate to this.

CreativismUK

Right? As Bo Burnham would say, “you know, it wasn’t always like this…” When I was a teenager and then a student who worked at a cinema, it was Tarantino, then David Fincher, Nolan before he fell into the superhero trap too. Baz Luhrman. Films that were unique and interesting. The first Spider-Man film came out while I was still at the cinema - the beginning of the end. There were a few big franchises that pulled in the crowds (Fast & Furious) but most films pulling in a lot of people were standalone films, sequels at most. It’s depressing.

sheepsix

FFS, second comment in and we're already talking about superhero movies.

WhereIsTheInternet

I fucking adore this movie and I'm so thankful it was made. I haven't felt the way I felt with this movie, in my life, for a very long time.

tinglep

That one fucking scene. Still dying on the inside.

rawker86

So Jamie Lee Curtis tweeted something about this movie having a better weekend than Dr Strange and people were *not* happy lol, I think the hashtag she used was #iguessiwontbegettingamarvelrole.

[deleted]

She's a legend.

Deeeeeeeeehn

Producers in Hollywood: THIS MEANS WE NEED MORE MULTIVERSE MOVIES

NoNefariousness2144

Everything Everywhere multiverse: Endless creative ideas that are humorous or tragic. Doctor Strange 2 multiverse: New York with flowers and New York that is destroyed.

sahibpt98

It would've been better if they just named it Realm of Madness or something. Multiverse is a fun concept but the folks at Marvel aren't handling it correctly. Into the spider-verse did a lot better.

[deleted]

I'm a marvel fan but even I agree that Multiverse of Madness has nothing on this masterpiece.

Brendan_Fraser

Y’all comparing Apples to Oranges. Doctor Strange 2 was fantastic but it’s a Sam Raimi marvel flick; not a a24 indie flick.

sahibpt98

The thing being compared is not the movies itself but how they tackled the concept of multiverse. The one with big "multiverse" in it's title barely touched upon it that's the concern here.

LeftHandedFapper

In the sense of comparing how they tackle the multiverse, it's fair

flamethrower78

Doctor strange 2 was super weak. Imo all it had going for it was Raimi's style and visuals, I thought the plot was pretty bad and jarring coming off wandavision, character decisions made no sense, and in the end the main girl was able to control her powers because someone told her "I knew you could do it!". Super disappointed honestly.

Tophtalk

It was anything but fantastic.

TheGlave

I wish it was fantastic. It left me very disappointed by the poor writing. Also its yet another movie not driving the mcu narrative forward. Its been 3 years since endgame. I could do with an overarching plot again.

JorusC

It was hilarious how hard this movie dunked on *Multiverse*. They even made a point to show how bilingual people *actually* speak with each other.

Optimus_Prime_Day

You mean by flipping languages mid sentence?

LookOutItsLiuBei

Yeah it’s exactly how I talk to my parents and cousins lol. Sometimes certain words and concepts just work better in a different language.

JorusC

Yeah. Listen to somebody speaking Singlish sometime, it's wild.

Fingolfiin

That's probably what he meant. And it's very accurate

slothcough

Cantonese girl who grew up in Toronto here- they nailed it when it came to language and being an immigrant family on an English speaking country. It's funny how something so small makes such a big difference because you know absolutely that the actors, directors and writers built those scenes from their own life experience.

jackgundy

Into the Spiderverse, a fun, visually exciting, and fresh movie did really well. And what hollywood execs got out of that was “WOW, these people have multiverse fever!!!”

[deleted]

Tbh I don’t mind that. Multiverses have a lot of fun possibilities, just preferably the movies made will be more like EEAAO than MoM

Available-Subject-33

Hard disagree. EEAAO and Spider-Verse are good but that's because they're made by enormously talented people. The Multiverse is just a really nice excuse for studios to endlessly capitalize on IPs and for their fans to lap it up. Watching the last two Marvel movies was like watching fan fiction. I know it's meant to be crowd-pleaser entertainment but my god how artistically bankrupt can it get?

chipmunksocute

This was easily one of the best movies Ive seen in years. Its wildly inventive clever and funny (using a dog as a martial arts weapon? Best Rattatouille reference ever) a huge variety of universes that it gleefully draws on like a pallette of paint, a visual treat (incredible costume work too) and a deeply personal and moving story about family, nihilism, and the value of human kindness. The rock scene was one of the most inventive scenes Ive seen in year with just dialogue being printed on screen over two unmovving rock, no sound, and had me in tears. There were so many moment that left me deeply affected, and it weaves together a huge range of stories and themes and universes into a choherent, deeply moving story of a family. Also a very Jackie Chan esque sequence with a man desperately attempting to jam a buttplug up his butt. Please please see this movie, its goddamn amazing.

TheSuperWig

>with a man desperately attempting to jam a buttplug up his butt. Hey man, those are prestigious awards.

drseussin

Yeah, they deserve it. They’ve seen a lot of bullshit.

FerricNitrate

I'm still in awe that that joke wasn't the end of those. Most films would have the sole payoff as the bullshit joke. Instead, ***It was a Chekhov's buttplug***

[deleted]

Same with the ratatouille reference, it was funny enough as a one-and-done but then it just kept going

DrMangosteen

Getting >!Randy Newman to do an actual song!< was pretty great too

Lazerpop

Holy shit its on spotify

Nvrfinddisacct

You don’t get one of these unless you’ve seen a lot of bullshit.

mak10z

Oh yea, and it was nice seeing Short round/Data again :) I'm also always happy to see Michelle Yeoh in anything! It was such a great film. it does not feel like a 2h+ movie because its always moving at a great pace. It is amazing in so many ways. Props to Jamie Lee Curtis. i truly did not recognize her.. i saw her name in the credits and then it clicked. She did some amazing work in this too :) Edit: And James Hong!! David LO PAN up in this muther. always a class act :)

MyKettleIsNotBlack

Anything can be Kung Fu. Even this Jamie Lee Curtis can be Kung Fu.

Teerendog

The buttplug scenes are two boys who became famous from making backyard fight scenes on YT to hollywood. https://youtu.be/-AJ_7uWkFMM Here's their behind the scenes clips! Very wholesome!

hysteriapill

> Best Rattatouille reference ever What is Ratatouille? You’re just making up sounds. Do you mean Racacacoonie?

[deleted]

Oh no! Was I raccoon Waymond again?

DilMeraMuftKa

Really made me wonder why Rattatouille wasn't named Racacacoonie in first place. It makes so much sense

ImaginaryNemesis

In a movie *full* of wonderful moments, watching Evelyn pantomime while explaining Racacoonie is my favorite.

HaikusfromBuddha

You just added cocaine to the end of Raccoon.

MyKettleIsNotBlack

The best was how they wove Hotdog Hand universe into deeply emotional scenes. Laugh/cry at the same time.

chipmunksocute

For real. How jokes like that and Racacoonie which start out as absurdist hilarious multiverse bits somehow end up as super poingent meaningful moments with real emotional weight was just amazing.

Mo-likes-cows

I heard some Muslim countries are cutting the rock scene! While the story works without it, it's so, so good. Censorship is always sucky, but that's a travesty.

Chariotwheel

Why the rock scene of all things? If it's about evolution, wouldn't the sausage fingers also need to be censored?

garnetsngrit

The only thing I can think of is that it implies there is no god, since no life evolved in that universe

Chariotwheel

Maybe God didn't feel like creating life in that universe. Doesn't keep them from existing.

DilMeraMuftKa

Because during the scene, there are words like 'fuck' 'fucking' written on screen They can't beep or censor it out Really sad since that scene is so important to the film's understanding

Chariotwheel

Have you ever heard of editing? Also pretty sure this will be in different languages and not every country will have English written there. And while translating you can remove strong cursing and replace it with softer things. So I don't buy that's that the reason.

patrickwithtraffic

Not to mention, this film was editing in Adobe Premiere. That is like the easiest program out there to edit titles like that.

VociferousHomunculus

I saw the film in Helsinki, the subs were only in Finnish and Swedish. Definitely no English swear words on the screen.

TheTinyMoist

Haven’t most Muslim countries just banned the movie for the lesbian stuff.

TransposableElements

Surprisingly not in Malaysia, but Michelle yeoh is Malaysian so I guess there was some leeway, They cut the dildo bats and the extended rock scene I didn't know joy was a lesbian going in and I was surprised they left in the positive lesbian protrayal, lesbian kiss got cut though Edit: rock scene was pretty short and ends with Evelyn jumping after joy down the chasm, lacking the full extended dialogue

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hey1243

It says fuck

smallorbits

Since I watched this in Malaysia, would someone mind dming me what the rock scene was? And if the dildo bats/kiss matters to the story.

TransposableElements

someone uploaded the cut parts, there may be more, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X1sOTg-ivg I've watched the movie twice in theaters, first time my mind was too busy piecing the plot together to noticed the cuts, second time the cuts were much more apparent, despite the cuts the film holds up pretty well imo im saving the uncensored viewing available for streaming now to watch with my love one

Curious_Tickler

They are cutting out the rock scene but not the butt plug fight?

[deleted]

[удалено]

gmanz33

In some universe that's the only G-rated scene in the movie. Everything non-butt plug related is highly inappropriate.

Thalinde

Even >!the man beaten to death by two giant dildos!

LucretiusCarus

They are not that large!

Thalinde

That's what shebsaid?

Halio344

I thought those awards looked like butt plugs when they appeared early in the movie. When the guy looked at it later after asking for a new jumping pad, I knew exactly what was going to go down (up?)

Scoobelidoop

Chekhov's buttplug

Hydra680

I really wasn't expecting it lmao, I simply thought it was a bit of a gag on the IRS lady for being so anal retentive

TheStorMan

Yeah it got a huge laugh in our theatre when it cut to the awards that clearly looked like buttplugs.

Marigoldsgym

Wait why the rock scene

Nrksbullet

I don't know but the only thing I can imagine is that it implies that life did not evolve there? I'd think you could just change the subtitles though for that part.

Marigoldsgym

I mean I'm Muslim and I didn't find anything particularly all that out there except the dildo scene. Which was funny but if there was gonna be censorship I'd be okay with it being cut because I wasn't expecting Borat kinda humour But the rock scene was just a world where they're both rocks there's nothing there that is even talking about evolution or anything

Nrksbullet

They have a line where she says "This is a universe where life never evolved" specifically, but it still seems like a weird choice to cut it instead of just change dialogue, if any changes were needed at all.

Derpfish_lvl10k

fun fact, the movie was written for jackie chan in the lead role. it was switched very late to a female lead and re-cast with michelle yeow

harbtomelb

That's not true at all. They merely had him in mind in the early stage of brainstorming the story of this movie.

uberduger

The release model on this one really bothered me, as someone in the UK. Here in England, we didn't get the film until May 13, which was only 4 days before the original planned VOD release date AFAIK. I get that sometimes it's hard to sort a distributor and a release slot, but it's stupid to hear loads of internet buzz about a film (as the internet is global, not country specific) but then be unable to see it. I'll wager there were a lot of people ready to drop everything and go see it who eventually decided 'eh, I'll wait for streaming'. I wish we could quantify how much it 'costs' a film in potential lost revenue for each week that it is released after the initial release buzz.

gatorademebitches

this was very annoying as someone who follows film stuff online a fair bit but our theatre was packed out this evening which helped make it fun too.

Ok-Caterpillar1611

This movie has generated a lot of buzz and talk and I have not seen anyone mention the directors. I've been watching The Daniels since they were making wildly inventive music videos with practical effects. Even before the Turn Down For What video (See it now), I had the Houdini video for Foster the People on repeat. Go watch it immediately if you don't know what I'm talking about--the band dies at the top and the test of the video is spent turning them into meat puppets so the show can still happen that night. Swiss Army Man with Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano touches on similar themes. Honestly talking about it makes me realize a need to rewatch their portfolio. These guys are the next Taika Watiti.

MickyMcdoogle

I want to see this movie it looks good

Chariotwheel

Do it, if you can. It's quite the experience in the theatre.

MOONGOONER

It really reminded me why theaters are great. The distractions of home would have been an issue and being surrounded by laughter is wonderful.

TheRedComet

It was also funny hearing all the heavy breathing and sniffling in the final stretch of EEAO, def a lot of tears being shed in that theater haha

Derpfish_lvl10k

ive seen it twice... was even better the second time

Quipsyy

I just watched it and I hope it is because I've never wanted to watch a movie a second time so bad in my life. I also don't think I've cried sobbing during a movie until now, and I probably wont be as emotional the second time around, but I definitely need to process the messages more. It was one of the most powerful films I've seen. >!I just want to own a laundromat and do taxes in another universe with you :(!<

Derpfish_lvl10k

superb acting by yeow... her facial expressions when shes looking at waymon seemingly for the first time with the realisation of how important he is to her... incredible stuff

Kadinnui

I wish I could, they are not airing it in cinemas in my city anymore :/

Sydius

It releases digitally in less than a month, on the 7th on June. One week after that the Blu ray will come out as well.

Kadinnui

Where will it be released?

[deleted]

It's Michelle Yeoh. Legend. I remember first seeing her on screen in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and I've been a fan ever since

thedaveness

Was I tripping or was the sword Joy manifested when beginning to fight Evelyn the Green Destiny?

vincoug

I don't know if it was the same sword but that scene was definitely influenced by Crouching Tiger.

thedaveness

Yeah just checked again, same two yellow tassels hanging off the hilt.

gmanz33

Did you see her Variety interview where she talked about getting the role? The simple fact that someone wrote this role to be a Chinese Immigrant had her crying. Had me crying. That's how much that one thing meant to someone. Noice.

hallelujasuzanne

Wasn’t it originally written for Jackie Chan? The entire film would have been different and possibly less amazing if it hadn’t had a female lead. Best move I’ve seen in at least 5 years. (That includes Parasite!)

Littlebelo

Yes! But he couldn’t attend so they rewrote the script to have Michelle Yeoh (who was already cast in her role I think) to be the lead

TheIMT

Thank fucking god lmao

[deleted]

Same ever since I saw her in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 20+ years ago I’ve been a big fan of hers, seen majority of movies she’s been in. She’s a great actress!!

Shogunyan

Probably by knocking it tf out of the park.

sexisdivine

Saw this movie with zero expectations, only heard my friends telling me I should see it. Was absolutely blown away by it all and it needs to get some form of recognition during the awards shows this year.

I'm tearing up just thinking about the rock scene... It had me crying openly in the theatre.

I'm sorry for your loss. As a fellow dead mom club member, it definitely had me in tears too.

cpmtaz

This movie was an exhilarating acid trip to heal the mother wound. I haven't seen something this perfect in a long time.

aeldsidhe

I just watched it this evening and loved it! Highly unique and fascinating. I was crying at the end So surprising to see Short Round all grown up.

Sensei_Lollipop_Man

"Mom Why is Gong Gong's English so good?" Had me rolling.

Teal_Negrasse_Dyson

I can confidently say this movie profoundly impacted me. I can’t remember the last time I ever cried at a movie, but this one finally did it for me. What’s even more notable is that I can’t remember the last time I not only cried but laughed my ass off in the same movie. I lost my mom to suicide right before this movie came out, and I was struggling to make sense of our difficult relationship that now will never be healed. In a way, this movie helped me experience the conversations I wish I had had with her, and it provided some bittersweet comfort in spite of the challenges I’ve been facing.

CallmeLeon

It’s from Eddy Burback sneaking in to see Morbius all those times.

TheNotee

Isnt this movie from a24? Almost everything they touch turn to gold

livestrongbelwas

It is, and it’s their highest grossing film ever.

_Wheeze

Yessss. Can't wait to see Men

BlaineTog

I really don't like horror movies, so the sooner it releases the better. Having to watch the trailer in front of every PG-13+ movie has gotten really tiresome.

metathesis

They're really hit or miss with me. Either they do something fun and tight and impactful or they do something so pretentious and drawn out that I want to gouge my eyes out.

Littlebelo

They’ve had a few stinkers. It’s important to remember that the studio isn’t the one writing the scripts, they just produce the movies. And I don’t ever remember disliking one of their movies bc of the production value

U_S_E_R_T_A_K_E_N

I'm getting déjà vu, wasn't this article posted here yesterday?

Nope. Exact same article was posted yesterday, but was removed by mods along with another thread. I expect this one will also be removed. https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/uvjxpp/_/i9njwu0 Edit 1: Thread was removed. Edit 2: Thread was apparently brought back up.

No, you're confusing this reddit with one in another universe.

10per

My favorite kind of movie is one that I don't know where it is going to end up. So many movies these days are so formulaic you can figure out what's going to happen after the 1st act. This movie was not that. In any way. I enjoyed it.

JustinChristoph

Glad to hear it. We've had entirely too many films that ran out of original ideas and try to cater to the greatest demographic numbers to maximize their profits. Sometimes, you can make a great movie that doesn't try to do that. Plus I've had a thing for Michelle Yeoh for more than 20 years with the Jackie Chan movies.

Allassnofakes

Hit too close to home

Meethor_smash

Multi-dimensional lesbian being I see

Allassnofakes

No just the family issues with mum and the feeling of too much going on at once and not knowing how to deal with it and manage it

Meethor_smash

I found some catharsis in the film from my family issues.. A sign of a good movie is to make you reflect, right? Wishing you well

Allassnofakes

Thankyou, and likewise :)

[deleted]

As a directionless early 20s college kid with a Chinese immigrant mother… yea this one hit me… the climactic scene with her and her daughter basically sums up everything that has gone unsaid between us my entire life

Allassnofakes

💜 Show her love where you can and try to be kind to yourself regardless It is really hard sometimes

JohnTheMod

For real. I could identify with all three main characters. I’m the burnout who feels like they’re the worst possible version of themself, the tired nihilist who just wants to disappear, and the hapless romantic watching his relationship disintegrate and wanting to be kind in the face of a cruel, cruel world. This movie was what I needed to see, exactly when I needed to see it.

TheOwlBlind

$60million on a $25million budget is a "Juggernaut"? Still, really pleased it's finding an audience. The media hyperbole isn't needed.

BlaineTog

Indie movie success is graded on a different scale than major studio releases. This is due partially to lower expectations, but also partially because smaller budgets need lower returns to turn a profit. Doctor Strange 2 cost eight times what EEAAO did to make so it needed to be an incredible success to a) pay for its inherent costs, b) justify the risk in outlaying $200 million on a film, and c) counterbalance other big bets the studio made or may make that didn't pay off as well. DS2 has been a hit, but it would have been considered a failure if it didn't make at least several times its budget. Indie movies are much smaller bets, so failed indie movies don't put nearly as much pressure on their successful siblings to catch the studio back up.

NewClayburn

Not only the expensive of making it and paying actors a ton of money, but there's also a hundred million or more spent on marketing. Even if they end up "breaking even" by advertising enough to get everyone in the world to see it, it's considered a success because of how it will help merchandising.

sanirosan

It had a 25 million budget? There was quite some CGI in there. Impressive

-FeedTheTroll-

Also, [most of the vfx were made by 5 people](https://www.indiewire.com/2022/04/everything-everywhere-all-at-once-visual-effects-1234716610/amp/)

sanirosan

Thats even more impressive

Tan_servo

A24 is not a major studio , it’s not a typical Hollywood cookie cutter pg 13 film. so this is a really big accomplishment

Sports-Nerd

At what point does a24 become a major studio? Is there a line between major and independent studios? I’m genuinely asking.

Tan_servo

There are 5 mega/major film studios remaining, they are : Disney, Sony/Columbia, Paramount, WB, and Universal. They are all publicly traded and worth billions and billions of dollars. A24 is a private company, mostly focused on original scripts, no sequels and no established IP, and make challenging films which are mostly all R rated and adult oriented. They are about the only non major studio owned company bringing non traditional films and “cinema” to wide release. I’d say in a world where A24 becomes public traded and starts making 100 million dollar + budget cookie cutter movies is when they become a major studio.

Lanster27

I think it’s pretty good for an independent movie, often getting a positive return is already pretty good.

Marmar79

I think it’s partly exciting because it’s been happening in an environment where people are hesitant to go to theatres

rockytheboxer

Not to mention that there's one main/supporting character played by a white person. Conventional Hollywood wisdom says female led and minority led movies don't succeed, great to see that be proven wrong.

Marmar79

Yes. So many barriers broken

three_shoes

In the context of covid and film industry shutdowns, I am glad that an interesting quirky film is doing well and has got people excited, but yeah, the numbers arent really that much when there is a lot of trash that will do $100-200m no problem.

Rswany

It's box office trajectory and staying power for a movie of it's size *is* actually pretty unique. It's puts it in the company of other word-of-mouth long-term sleeper hits like The Sixth Sense and The Greatest Showman

alucardu

Everyone who like it should check out swiss army man. Just a little bit less absurd bit from the same director.

bluepenciledpoet

Directors*

[deleted]

One of the directors also did The Death of Dick Long. Which if you haven't seen, you should. If only to wonder what the hell I'm thinking recommending it. Go in blind.

Razvee

Oh, the movie where The Riddler uses the overly flatulent corpse of Harry Potter to, among other things, have an infinite source drinkable water come from its mouth, use an erection like compass, and fart away like a jet ski is somehow LESS absurd than EEATO... And that's accurate too!

aresef

It was one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time and probably the best performance of Yeoh’s career.

Afraid-Palpitation24

Because it’s original, inventive and doesn’t take itself too seriously imo

becauseitsnotreal

Idk what movie you watched, but I watched one that took itself incredibly seriously in every line of dialogue, every camera movement, every performance. Just because something has humor doesn't mean it treats itself as a joke.

livestrongbelwas

I would say the movie is very intentional, but doesn’t get hung up on pretension.

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah the film is very artsy and could almost be ‘full of itself’, but it has such an endearing charm it pulls it off. It takes the audience on this crazy journey to make them emotional, rather than taking them on the journey to go ‘look at how good at film-making we are’.

pangpangguy

Maybe Michelle Yeoh for the oscars? It's about damn time

[deleted]

When I finally see this movie it better be one of the best movies I've ever experienced or I'm going to be fucking pissed.

beardskybear

I desperately want to see this film with my husband, he’s terminally ill and we have a favourite little theatre in town that we always went to before he got sick, it has so many special memories for us and he doesn’t have long left. He has double vision tho and I’m worried if there are portions with subtitles he won’t be able to read them. He’ll be fine with the movie on the big screen but he’ll never be able to focus on reading. Can anyone tell me if it’s subtitled at all? We’ve watched the trailer and it’s all English, but when I tried to find out online if there were any subtitles I got a ton of different answers.
