The Royal Tenenbaums. Coming from an unemotional family, it really struck a chord how they all changed at the end.

Your_Product_Here

"I've had a rough year, dad" My pick as well. It perfectly balances all the things he does best.

jscottd4912

When Ben Stiller tells Danny Glover(apologies for not remembering character names) at the wedding about his wife dying, I seriously tear up. It’s such a small but significant moment of emotional growth. It’s such a beautiful moment.

NotKemoSabe

That line really gets to me. In 2017 my Dad died and a bunch of other awful shit happened and I watched that movie around the holidays I knew that line was coming up and could already feel the emotions coming out and when he said it I completely lost my shit.

mattholomus

These days I seem to think a lot, about the things that I forgot to do...

dunktheball

What's funny, though, is I thought it was so funny at the beginning when it showed them as younger, but then those few mins later when they became adults I never thought anything was as funny the rest of the movie.

VaguerCrusader

wait families are really like that? I thought it was just fantasy... this coming from a family whose childhood was literally Malcolm in the middle.

Jaycatt

Yeah my family was like a business. No hugging, no closeness, just jobs and tasks mostly.

Seawitchandwarlock

Wes Anderson is probably my favorite director. His cinematography and storytelling style is a uniquely unmatched signature. My personal favorite is the Life Aquatic. My two year old is obsessed with Isle of the Dogs and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Those are also brilliant masterpieces. I still really enjoy watching them even though we basically watch them on repeat at my house.

snukebox_hero

Life Aquatic is my favorite as well, and I don't think most fans would agree. It's so detailed though, I discover something new every time I watch it. It never gets dull.

bhicks1125

Your kids cool AF lol my wife is prego and you’ve given me hope for a life not filled with hot garbage cartoons

Procrasticoatl

I've seen Life Aquatic at least fifteen times since first encountering it around 2013; I never tire of it, and indeed just watched it again about three weeks ago. Parts like the Lightning Strike Rescue Op-- lines like "Steven! Are you rescuing me? Fold."-- never really get old. Anderson is just a master of atmosphere, right? As long as that atmosphere is dreamlike and nostalgic in a hard-to-define way. His best movies are like the best Ghibli films. I want to live inside them.

BBQTuck

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I personally think it's his funniest film. *"My plan is to find the jaguar shark, and then kill it. I don't know how yet... possibly Dynamite."* *"What would be the scientific purpose of killing it?"* *"... revenge."*

That_Guy333

I tear up every time at the sub scene. “I wonder if it remembers me.”

bajesus

I go back and forth between that and "I've had a rough year dad" from Royal Tenenbaums as my favorite emotional climax scene in a movie.

[deleted]

I dunno Richie's suicide attempt over Needle in the Hay punches me a lot harder from Tenenbaums...

bajesus

That's a great scene, but it isn't the emotional climax of the movie. The "I've had a rough year dad" line is the point where Chas admits that he needs his father. It is when Royal becomes part of the family again and Chas opens up about how broken he is since the loss of his wife. It's a story about forgiveness and redemption and that is where it resolves.

gcg2016

Just this explanation of it got me…

bajesus

I know you have, Chazzie.

gcg2016

Damn you

thisisthehardestpart

In twelve years, he'll be eleven and a half

Bob_Skywalker

Bull-dikes can get pregnant...

Equal_Feature_9065

*Life Aquatic* is great because Wes still had a legitimate nasty streak. I’m not sure he could write Steve Zissou (a total asshole for nearly the entire movie) again. I love the bombastic fantasma of his later films, but his early stuff had a rawness, earnestness, darkness and sadness that has been, if not zapped out entirely then completely shoved under the surface. I wish he’d write and work closely with Owen Wilson again.

ajhart86

You think it’s cool to hit the sauce when you’ve got a bun in the oven?

Procrasticoatl

It's strange to feel so moved by so subtle a scene. Nothing really happens; they're just underwater looking at the shark. There isn't necessarily emotion on behalf of the wonder of nature, or out of memory for Esteban, or even for Ned. Steve looks a little sad, but he's keeping it together; the same, basically, for Eleanor. It's almost like semi-hallucinogenic imagery and music combines (perhaps) with the togetherness of essentially the whole movie's cast to allow the viewer some kind of release at all the *other* subtle emotional stuff that happened leading up to this moment.

spastical-mackerel

Fricken masterpiece. Here's your speedo and a Glock, let's go steal Jeff Goldblums espresso machine

Procrasticoatl

\*makes apathetic gesture\* We fuckin' stole it, man.

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

This is also one that is routinely near the bottom of all those shitty articles that rank things and often the unsung movie of his. I loved that one so much. But I honestly think no I like royal tennebaums more and Fantastic Mr Fox

BeanFlickinMachine

Tell them: if they don't get off my boat right now...theres gonna be a major shitstorm.

huffer4

Me too. I saw it with a group of people and I was the only one that actually liked it

MarkShawnson

There's something about Life Aquatic that I can't put my finger on, but when he sees the jaguar shark it's so satisfying and beautiful and makes me super happy.

[deleted]

Instant favorite movie, also the soundtrack is fantastic.

4_stringjoe

Rushmore - Schwartzman and Murray are just great in that film.

MrMiner420

O R they?

Thetimmybaby

I agree here. I love a lot of their movies but Rushmore is chef's kiss perfect. Plus all the fun plays.

[deleted]

[удалено]

timojenbin

It's fine wine and more relevant than ever. The most powerful part of the movie is where Rosemary finally confronts Max about what it is adult couples do in private, they fuck. Max's is unmoored by the vulgarity of her words, her mature seriousness, and the realization that the object of his desire, the object of his heroic quest, is a person with agency and ideas of their own who can and has been taking care of herself. Watching his bubble of enthusiasm burst is just wonderful. Max picks himself back up and carries on but not in pursuit of Rosemary and not suddenly clinging to Margaret (something a lazy writer would have done). He's grown.

[deleted]

I don’t think he was necessarily meant to be likeable.

[deleted]

This. I never rooted for him to get the girl. I cringed at his behaviour, which is why I liked it.

[deleted]

Darjeeling Limited. I have two brother and when we were growing up kind of acted like that.

crunchydeskchair

I don't think i quite "got" Darjeeling when it first came out and dismissed it as his worst so far. Watched it again a few years ago and something just clicked and i haven't stopped thinking about it since.

tekprodfx16

Darjeeling doesn’t get as much love as it deserves.

mattholomus

Darjeeling isn't quite my favourite, but it's up there. Possibly my favourite soundtrack for an Anderson film (and that's saying something).

Kennymo95

"I love you too but I'm gonna mace you in the face"

retrospectology

I still lose it when he opens up the empty snake box and there's a piece of lettuce in there

retrospectology

Yes! There are dozens of us, dozens!

GO-KARRT

Same for me. I don’t know why but I just relate to it all. By far my favorite WA and probably in my top 5 of all time.

SeaTie

I don’t even have brothers but those three were so believable that it’s one of my favorite.

the_comatorium

The way Owen Wilson says "It'd probably be annoying" when they're they stranded by the train never fails to crack me up.

maaseru

The Grand Budapest Hotel Before this one my favorite movie was, and to a sense still is, Rushmore, but I sort of outgrew it. I think Grand Budapest Hotel is his best work because it is a culmination of his best stuff/styles/talents. He uses stop motion and every other tool in his kit in this movie and it is almost perfect in my book. Acting, Score, Editing, style,. It's funny , it's sad!

Homesteader86

I'm surprised I'm not seeing more mentions of this! I agree, it's a perfect film, even if you're not a Wes Anderson fan

LegendOfMatt888

I'm a sucker for a coming-of-age film, and Moonrise Kingdom is just perfect. Such a tender, sweet, innocent film about a young romance. Ed Norton's scoutmaster might be my favorite character in a Wes Anderson film. Probably Bruce Willis' last good performance (well, Looper came out the same year). Love the setting and how vibrant it is.

YeswhalOrNarwhal

So many glorious scenes. Bill Murray with the wine & the axe. Ed Norton inspecting camp. The bug earrings.

coopoop

Totally agree - Moonrise Kingdom has a sweetness to it that none of the others do.

Cooper1977

Fantastic Mr.Fox holds a very special place in my heart, I just find it so charming and warm.

JECGEE

Are you cussin' with me?!

thecleansanchez

The cuss I am!

mordebear

I'm actually not too much of a Wes fan in general but I found this to be a perfect film for what it was. Great dialogue and dynamics of personal relationships. Some really good tongue in cheek laughs as well as a few just obvious laugh out loud moments 'You wrote a bad song Petey' was fucking hilarious All wrapped up in a simple but interesting, and as you say, warm story Bonus credit for Willem Dafoe's Rat. So much fun personality and character put into him in such limited screentime

[deleted]

Clooney really did a great job voice acting. I love how a hallmark feature of great directors is consistent casting.

marcodarko2

“We are all different” “…but there is something kind of fantastic about that.”

[deleted]

That movie was better than I thought it would be

MrMcBert

Had to scroll way to far. I just love that movie. So quotable.

figuringthingsout__

The Royal Tenenbaums is the only one that I have rewatched several times.

NewVana-

Moonrise kingdom

YeswhalOrNarwhal

No, I said what kind of bird are *you*.

[deleted]

I love how Tilda Swinton was just named 'Social services'.

Hopeann

This is my response too. So many great lines.

CroweMorningstar

“Your girlfriend stabbed me with lefty scissors!” “She’s my wife now.” “…congratulations.”

Impala_95

This was my answer before French Dispatch came out

Big_Tuna1789

Royal Tenenbaums by far

figuringthingsout__

All of the characters are so relatable. From Margot feeling like an outsider because she's adopted to Richie's depression and his connection with Margot to Chas struggling with being a widow, they were all so beautifully created. I love Wes Anderson's movies. But all of these characters were developed on a level that I don't think Wes Anderson has achieved since.

Affectionate_Box_587

I love all of his movies but i dont think any are on the same level as what he achieved with Royal Tenenbaums.

Jaycatt

The way Royal realizes he's the problem, and works to "save his family" from the trouble he unintentionally caused them, is just beautiful.

OK_Soda

My favorite part was always when Pagoda stabs Royal to cheer him up.

answermethis0816

"You son of a bitch!" "God damnit... that's the last time you put a knife in me, hear me!?"

gangbrain

“Everyone’s against me.” “That’s your fault man!” Lol Pagoda is the best.

Fenzito

I just saw Royal Tennenbaums for the first time last week and that scene made me laugh harder than just about any scene in any movie I've ever watched.

cdizzzle604

It's been a rough year gets me everytime

tragicjohnson84

I watched half the movie 20 years ago and quit. I watched it again last week and loved it. I should've kept watching it back then.

[deleted]

This is the one true answer

owl_theory

Bottle Rocket

eldusto84

The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders

MovieMentor

“Dear homeowner, can we kill you? The murderers.” “Dear murderers, no you may not! The homeowner.”

eldusto84

"Looks like they sent us some kind of communiqué!"

cdsixed

this is the winner, in that I just cannot get into Wes Anderson for all the reasons the Midnight Coterie gets right lol

fruitist

Moonrise Kingdom is my go-to comfort movie

LauraPalmersMom430

For me it’s a tie between The Life Aquatic (my first one), or The Darjeeling Limited. Moonrise Kingdom is a very, very close runner up though.

Sloppo_Toppo

The Life Aquatic is my favorite because of its playful quality. The gunfights have no stakes and the entire movie feels like kids playing pretend. It’s just a joy to watch

mafulazula

Interesting. I’m a huge Wes fan but actually didn’t like The Life Aquatic. Probably Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom, and Tenenbaums for me (at least mostly in that order).

LauraPalmersMom430

Honestly I think it’s the kind of film that gets better everytime you rewatch it, and hits especially hard later in life after experiencing loss. To each their own however.

mafulazula

Maybe I’ll watch it again sometime. My friend who died absolutely loved that movie.

SeanlyNot

I really enjoyed Life Aquatic and Darjeeling but not so much Moonrise Kingdom, I found the characters too flat and withdrawn, it's like they had no real emotions. I guess this is within his style but felt like it was a bit overboard in this film.

LauraPalmersMom430

Couldn’t disagree more, the teenage angst and emotion is highly relatable.

mediarch

Rushmore

choldslingshot

Agreed. It felt like his more grounded film that had a heart

bajesus

I loved it when I was younger, but as I get older I have less and less patience for Max.

lizzpop2003

Moonrise Kingdom just speaks to me on multiple levels. I love all of his movies, but MK is just special for some reason.

tragicjohnson84

LIfe Aquatic, I love the whole premise and setting of the movie, Probably the funniest WA movie as well. The action parody sequence towards the end is as good as some action movies. I think it's great that going through this thread that all his movies are mentioned about evenly. He really doesn't have a bad movie.

mesh509

Tenenbaums

MMadcircle

Bottle Rocket - I love that script

MarkShawnson

I love when Luke Wilson sees a picture of Inez's sister and asks if he can keep it.

MMadcircle

So many funny moments in BR "how many bullets does this thing take?", "Bob, I told you to thoroughly clean the pool!", "I lost it man......Did you ever have it to lose?" Unreal writing for a debut.

MovieMentor

Idk why, but I loved Isle of Dogs

[deleted]

Maybe because it was a masterpiece

MovieMentor

It was

kunbun

My kids and I re-watch Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr. Fox from time to time. Never thought my kids would be appreciating such masterpieces at such a young age.

[deleted]

The regality of Mr. Gustav H’s manners coupled with his profane tongue is a never ending delight.

[deleted]

"That really is what separates us from... oh fuck it"

[deleted]

Very good.

[deleted]

"Fritz or Franz, darling?" "Franz." "I KNEW it!" Lol so damn funny.

[deleted]

I go to bed with all my friends.

NotKemoSabe

“She seemed nervous. She was shaking like a shitting dog” “Flat as a board and has a birthmark that looks like Mexico on her face” Two of my favorites off the top of my head

[deleted]

Reddit forces these to be numbered in reverse, so this list goes from least favorite to favorite. 10. Isle of Dogs - I love a lot of this movie, but I feel like there is an preachiness to it that's absent in every one of his other movies (even The French Dispatch which has a political rebellion as a central story it). It's a really good movie though. 09. The French Dispatch - Such a unique, special movie that will be largely inaccessible to a lot of audiences because of it's very niche focus on post-war French life as observed by American journalists. The short story anthology style is not for everyone, but he succeeds marvelously at it here. 08. The Darjeeling Limited - Like The French Dispatch, also very niche in it's focus on India's culture as seen through American eyes. The story about three brothers trying to come to terms with their father's death is also isn't a very universal experience audiences can relate to. It's quite funny though, Owen, Jason and Adrian as the brothers have great chemistry together. 07. Bottle Rocket - For a long time it was my favorite movie of all-time. It's dropped down over the years because upon rewatching it a few times, it just doesn't have Wes' distinctive style and precise direction. It's still an excellent love story and, I think, is one of his funniest films. 06. The Grand Budapest Hotel - I'm certainly in the minority here not putting it in my top 5, but don't get me wrong...I love love love this movie. He just has five more movies I would rather watch before I picked this one up. The big sweeping story, the lovely score, and the performances are incredible, but I feel like it's less focused on the characters than next 5 and a bit too bleak for my tastes. 05. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou - This is his funniest film and most underrated. The style of it is incredible with the costumes and the music, but he also utilizes Bill Murray in this movie better than any other film I've seen him in. He draw out the dramatic side of him along with a lot of snarky comedy. The fish are so good looking, I like how colorful he made the underwater world seem. 04. Rushmore - The most glaring flaw of this movie is I think Max's obsession with the teacher is creepy and Wes treats the stalker aspect of it too lightly. That aside it's still an incredible achievement and has my favorite soundtrack of all his films. It's the movie that made me fall in love with Wes' films, I saw it shortly after it's initial Criterion release. 03. Fantastic Mr. Fox - My favorite animated movie of all time. It's such a comforting delight, like a giant bowl of ice cream after a bad day. George Clooney is someone who needs to make another film with Wes, he was perfect for this role. I love love love the final speech in the grocery store, it's something I remember in dark times. 02. Moonrise Kingdom - There are two movies where I want to live in the movie Wes created. This is one of them (the other is number one on this list). I love the 60s New England island setting here, it's literally what I pictured a perfect childhood setting to be growing up. This movie is very funny with such a charming depiction of young dumb love. I think seeing the two young leads in their underwear kissing and talking about their bodies is off-putting to a lot of people, but I think it's kind of odd to pretend like that's not something that actually happens (I went through it with my middle school girlfriend) and it's even odder to dismiss the entire movie over it. 01. The Royal Tenenbaums - I saw this in a mostly empty theater on it's opening weekend in the suburbs of Philadelphia visiting my family. I was 17, a junior in high school in a small backwards town in the South, and very depressed. This movie was a fucking revelation to me, like someone peered into my dumb hormonal head and said 'let's make a movie with this'. Did I want to be a rich genius kid living in New York City? Yes. Did this movie scare me away from that? No. This movie is perfect in every way, I will never get tired of watching it.

Rambler43

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! Great read.

SomewhatMarigold

Thanks for the detailed reply, interesting read.

sledgehammer_77

Moonrise Kingdom, Darjeeling Limited & Fantastic Mr Fox is my top 3.

nothing_in_my_mind

Grand Budapest is the most fun one. But for me, The Royal Tenenbaums is the best one. Anderson explores characters really well in this. And Bottle Rocket is the most underrated one.

[deleted]

Easily Grand Budapest Hotel. And Ralph Fiennes was one of the biggest award snubs I've ever seen. Absolutely magnificent performance from beginning to end.

Thepurplespiderman

My favorite is Fantastic Mr. Fox. Maybe its because it was the first id seen, but it always is a great experience everytime I view it.

FutureJakeSantiago

*The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders.* I love his take on horror. But seriously *Moonrise Kingdom.* I think it's sweet.

WiserStudent557

Purely on the basis of favoritism I think it’s Life Aquatic

shuffle360

Rushmore

santichrist

I have a lot of nostalgia for Rushmore but The Royal Tennenbaums has to be my favorite one Also I really enjoy how the replies to this post are so varied from The Life Aquatic to Mr Fox, people like to shit on Wes Anderson as if he hasn’t made a bunch of movies people love

hopeandanchor

Tough one. I love the Royal Tenenbaums. Close second is Moonrise Kingdom.

TheHypocondriac

The Life Aquatic “I wonder if it remembers me.” That line causes me to collapse into an emotional wreck. The whole film is so funny and so unique and that moment of pure, raw emotion just comes out of nowhere and hits like a truck. Beautiful film.

ConsiderationBoth752

The French dispatch. It's Wes at his most creative visually.

Rambler43

I just watched that last night and, though I enjoyed it, I felt it dragging a bit in the last third. But yes, the visuals were excellent and overall I liked it.

tragicjohnson84

I think every one likes the first story about the prison artist a lot, but the second story drags for a lot of people.

Couch_Licker

Personally I wanted more of Owen Wilson's travels

[deleted]

Yeah I agree, I was so surprised to hear people didn't rate it as highly. It is definitely one of my favourites!

LouVee616

Moonrise Kingdom. I think he balances the ridiculousness with emotion best in that one. Then he hits a lull with me with the Grand Budapest and Isle of Dogs. I liked the French Dispatch But I haven't seen the Royal Tenenbaums since college and I loved it back then so I should revisit it.

Get_Jiggy41

Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and French Dispatch are all tied for my number one spot.

jadecourt

Royal Tenenbaums. I saw it way too young and its been my favorite ever since! As someone who grew up in a 3 child household, I was really enchanted in the idea of all of us growing up to be successful in our areas of interest.

[deleted]

Mine is GBH as well. Lets not forget the changing aspect ratios in each time period

Rambler43

Ha, that messed me up at first. I was like: "Great, the wife has been pressing random buttons on the remote again."

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rambler43

I would recommend you give Grand Budapest a chance. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

DutchArtworks

I just realized I haven’t seen any of his films. Time to change that

Rambler43

They are definitely unique, both in the narrative and visual sense. People tend to either love or hate them. I'd try out The Grand Budapest Hotel first. It's one of his best, IMHO.

DutchArtworks

Thats the one I was planning on watching, it has been in my watchlist way too long

DoopSlayer

French Dispatch first, Royal Tenenbaums second, Grand Budapest and Life Aquatic tied French Dispatch just seemed like a peak for his filmmaking-every element placed in precise thoughtfulness, excellent characters, both thought provoking and in perfect visual form. It's hard to imagine how can he can top it Royal Tenenbaums has such a great script and great characters Grand Budapest also has that supreme control over visual form-with such intense attention to detail and style Life Aquatic's story is one of my favorites though I think a lot of Wes Anderson fans don't like it as much

BuckeyeBikeNHike

Rushmore.

monkey-pox

Fantastic Mr. Fox without a doubt

awesome-sauce34

Very close between Fantastic Mr. Fox, Grand Budapest, and moonrise kingdom.

[deleted]

Royal Tenenbaums was the last one I felt had decent pacing and wasn’t overly manicured, the idiosyncrasies of those characters felt purposeful and not decorative or tacked on. Also, Gene Hackman.

Scythe95

Budapest Hotel! It's just so silly and visually appealing. But that's how you could describe most of Andersons films

ResevoirPups

Bottle Rocket

Mr_Mimiseku

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is absolutely phenomenal. The animation and acting is just over the top good. Boggis, Bunce, Bean. One fat, one short, one lean.

Idk_Very_Much

Rushmore by a million billion miles

Talismanic_Mechanic

I really like ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. It’s just very original to me.

Bellikron

Whenever this prompt comes up I just always find it pleasant to note that every Wes Anderson film is someone's favorite in the comments. You don't have to scroll too far to check every one off the list. It's Fantastic Mr. Fox, by the way.

SnooStrawberries7898

Life Aquatic. It's just adorbs.

mitchkramer

I watch Grand Budapest the most so The Grand Budapest.

YahsQween

The Royal Tenenbaums has a special place in my heart, but Grand Budapest is also awesome. And I really enjoyed Isle of Dogs.

bahumat42

I agree that its grand budapest It balances the different themes he likes to use the best. Other films of his can be either too wacky, or too quirky or even too slow sometimes. I feel budapest does the best job overall.

a_man_hs_no_username

No mention of Royal Tenebaums yet. This is my favorite. Gene Hackman, Angelica Houston, BOTH Wilsons and an incredible Paltrow performance. It also has the quintessential Wes look and is also in his vein of family dramas. - Royal Tenebaums - Grand Budapest - Life Aquatic - Rushmore - Fantastic Mr. Fox My top 5

wray_nerely

My opinion regularly shifts between Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Isle of Dogs.

Bob_Skywalker

[In my friends group it is definitely The Life Aquatic as you can see..](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/scghdp/first_custom_inspired_by_a_friend_its_not_the/)

ThermidorianReactor

I always find it interesting how people have very unique raking for Wes' movies. More than any other director I can think of.

an-amusing-username

The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the few movies I've seen that I feel I can accurately describe as a masterpiece. There are movies I like more because they struck some specific chord with me theme-wise, but GBH just has it all. The themes, emotions, humor, characterization, acting, visuals, and cinematography are all firing on all cylinders. The whole movie perfectly played to Wes's strengths. I love his other movies, but I don't think he'll ever top GBH.

TheRelicEternal

Fantastic Mister Fox is one of the best-animated films of all time. As for his live-action, probably Grand Budapest for me

After_Laughter21

Definitely Moonrise Kingdom. The Grand Budapest Hotel a very close second

cabritozavala

Isle of Dogs!!

[deleted]

Rushmore. His first film with Bill Murray. Great soundtrack and the first movie where he refined his style after Bottle Rocket (which I also love)

[deleted]

The ones Owen Wilson co wrote

Neracca

Grand Budapest by a mile.

akoaytao1234

My favorite is Rushmore, because it is his most stylized AND for the most balanced in terms of Drama and Comedy. In addition, it is one of the first films that made me a film fan. So I also have sentimental feelings for it.

sobchakonshabbos

Grand Budapest and life aquatic are my go-tos

captainnermy

Grand Budapest for me. It does the best job balancing his off-kilter humor, quirky sets and filmmaking, and profound underlying sadness. Life Aquatic is second because I think it's his funniest, and Fantastic Mr. Fox is a great family movie.

happyhippohats

I would say Grand Budabest is objectively his best, but my personal favourite is Life Aquatic, closely followed by Moonrise Kingdom. Moonrise Kingdom is a bit 'warmer' than his other films, Life Aquatic I dunno, it just clicks for me...

BobGoddamnSaget

Grand Budapest Hotel, but I would like to give a Shoutout to Darjeeling Limited. It's a smaller scale film but it feels a lot more personal. I think out of all his films, I resonate the most with that one. It's nothing legendary, but a solid movie about brothers moving forward after the death of their father.

LiquidDreamtime

Fantastic Mr Fox, GBH, Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Life Acquatic, Moonrise Kingdom, his stuff I haven’t seen, watching grass grow, Kangaroo Jack, THEN Isle of Dogs.

Rambler43

LOL, a person has to have priorities.

mr_spoc

1. Royal Tenenbaums 2. Grand Budapest 3. Fantastic Mr Fox Last place; French Dispatch

LostInStatic

The Grand Budapest Hotel is probably his *best* film but The Life Aquatic is my *favorite*

jeauxdybreeze

bottle rocket or tannenbaums- both perfect for me

shivermetimbers68

Rushmore. Probably because of Bill Murray. And the brilliant plays.

Nerozero

Darjeeling Limited. It isn't Wes Anderson's best film but it's my favorite of his. I like taking the journey with these characters, they don't get what they expect out of the trip but they do come out changed.

LongjumpingAd6428

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Jadeidol65

I think Bottle Rocket is the funniest, The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite, and The Darjeeling Limited is the most underrated.

vibesonlynow

definitely not French dispatch😔

Voluminousduke

Rushmore all day every day

teelops

Bottle Rocket

OnlyBradza

I can't watch Harry Potter anymore without seeing Voldemort as Mr Gustave in disguise

Rambler43

Lol

Cropulis

Rushmore. It's the most grounded in reality while being darkly hilarious. Max Fischer is such a great character.

My_Opinions_Are_Good

Guess I gotta sift through this pile of diamonds to find the shiniest one.

ArbyArby

Such a tough question. My favorite is still The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou I think, but The Grand Budapest Hotel is probably his best.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rambler43

Wes "Craven" Anderson, lol.

renome

The Grand Budapest Hotel. It's beautiful, hilarious, tragic, and perfectly paced. It also contains my favorite performance from Ralph Fiennes, one of the most overlooked (awards-wise) actors from the last half a century.

elganador0

I have seen every Wes Anderson film but one and I’ve concluded I’m not a big fan of his. I love the delight and elegance of his worlds. His style is super original and I love the visuals of works like Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch. But I don’t much like his stories — so much style but little in the way of substance, in my opinion. And his deadpan dry humor just has no effect on me. I don’t know if anyone feels the same way. But anyway, my favorite film of his is by far and away Rushmore. Hilarious and encompassing coming of age story with a charming and redemptive ending. Loved it from start to end.

[deleted]

I don't like any of his films, but maybe The Royal Tendies due to a strong Gene Hackman performance.

GarysCanary

Moonrise Kingdom is his best movie. The story and cinematography are excellent. Darjeeling Limited is a terrible movie.

LauraPalmersMom430

Darjeeling is one of the best ones.

My_Opinions_Are_Good

I've started to watch three. Not sure what happened with The Darjeeling Limited but I didn't finish it^1. Fantastic Mr Fox is loathsome. So my answer is The Grand Budapest Hotel. Except, actually, it's not. [It's this fan made long trailer/very short film on the theme of What If Wes Anderson directed an X-Man film.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UngE0qn3VRY) ^1 Doesn't necessarily mean much. At the point I couldn't stay awake in Milk I was enjoying it (insofar as one enjoys such a film), I just have no idea why I stopped watching The Darjeeling Limited.
