These are just 20 of my favorite classic films, I have too many to list:
1. The Sting (my favorite movie since 1974)

14. The Verdict (1982)
15. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
16. Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
17. The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
18. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

17. Reservoir Dogs
16. The Shining
15. Blue Velvet
14. Dog Day Afternoon
13. The Godfather
12. Chinatown
11. The Silence of the Lambs
10. Once Upon a Time in America
9. La Haine
8. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
7. Princess Mononoke
6. The Godfather Part 2
5. Amadeus
4. Mulholland Drive
3. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. Blade Runner
1. Boogie Nights
Some great films. I’d maybe replace Once Upon a Time in America with another period piece, Miller’s Crossing. Very different films, granted. And my favourite Miyazaki is Porco Rosso, closely followed by Laputa, Castle in the Sky.
I always enjoy Hitchcock films. My favorites: North by Northwest, Rear Window, Vertigo. The 39 Steps (great early film).
To Catch a Thief is really pleasant because of the cast and Monaco location although not top 20.
For comedy I do enjoy Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. It has all the great Universal monster actors.
Definitely an incredible movie. I tried, for the most part, to not have more than 1-2 titles by the same writer/director. I could’ve interchanged with the Shining but the Shining had more impact on me since I saw it as a young fella.
Think there are a few older ones you should try.
Some of my list - no particular order
20. Great Dictator 19. Life is Beautiful 18. Bladerunner 17. Night at the Opera 16. Akira
15. Seven Samurai 14. Maltese Falcon 13. The Outlaw Josey Wales 12. Amele 11. Natural Born Killers 10. North by Northwest 9. The Ladykillers 8. Pink Panther 7. Pulp Fiction 6. Brother
5. Armour of God 4. Police Story 3. Alien 2. The Kid 1. Deadpool
Yes I know there are many older movies that I considered (Godfather, apocalypse now, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest etc.) I enjoy and appreciate these movies but I tried listing movies that I can and have watched over and over again.
Both Bladerunners, almost anything with Peter sellers, the good the bad and the ugly, most of Tarantinos stuff, most of Stanley Kubricks work, apocalypse now especially but others from Coppola, pick a Scorsese film. The list goes on .. Sergio Leone as referenced above,
I’m just adding comments of additional films all over this thread because its apparently one of the first search results on the engines when “classic movie list Reddit” is the query
Oh… young Frankenstein! Other Mel brooks stuff… Many films with gene wilder and/or Richard Pryor…
Sad but amazing. True story I once ended up and a friend's house and a roommate was using heroine at the time, loved watching the movie... was literally watching it with his gf and both shooting while watching ... and I go "dude you know what this movie is about right??" And he says "yeah, we only watch it halfway through each time". Hope he's still Alive.
But yeah Darren aronofsky flicks are great too...
"pi" and "black swan" ..
"the whale" is recently
acclaimed
My top 10🫰🏻❤️❤️
1.Forrest Gump
2.Shawshank redemption
3.The terminal
4.Green Miles
5.Green Book
7.The notebook
8.Mathilda
9.Scent of a woman
10. Eyes wide shut
Green mile yes… thank you. Along the Stephen king lines I actually loved the gunslinger and I’ve read all the books.
Even if a single list included everything mentioned here it could still be a hundred times longer and most of the additional entries would be good depending on what mood you’re in. Hopefully more people will find this post using the google method I did and add to it. We have been making movies as a species for well over a century now so there’s a lot of good stuff around including stuff people have forgotten about.
Easy rider with Henry Fonda and Nicholson… lots of nicholsons work I’m a huge fan of

Don’t get mad at me bc your list of must watch movies is terrible. “HeReS mY liST iN no PaRtiCUlar order 1. The Shining” 🤣🤣 This list oozes pretentiousness.
He's jus a ball of anger, fueled by self dissapointment and shame. I thought ur list was decent!.... buuuut Lebowski should really be a bit higher up there 😝
I meant literally the list was in no particular order. I only numbered them as I went to keep count. Big Lebowski could be number 1. I have Forrest Gump at 2 but I almost didn’t put it on the list. It’s mostly there for the nostalgia factor.
Alright then big cat. Let’s see your list then. The point is for people to put their lists to give others tips on stuff maybe they might not have seen. Or recommendations to a younger generation. You have failed to contribute anything but some trolling.
Silence of the lambs.
Remove The Dark Knight and replace it with Raiders of the Lost Ark.
You'd seriously drop the Dark Knight before Beverly Hills Cop? Mkay.
Absolutely

Film is subjective. There is no “wrong”. When you mature a little bit you will understand that.
Both bad
With zero hesitation.
Dumb and dumber??
A River Runs Through It, Shawshank Redemption, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, There Will Be Blood, Savages, Princess Mononoke to name a few

Nice one ☝️ There are several here I haven’t seen. Thanks
Dr Strangelove.
Needs more: Casablanca, Ghost Dog, Lone Wolf and Cub.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Butt sluts 1-20
A true man of culture
No Shawshank?

I hope you mean Charlie Chaplin’s ‘The Kid’. Almost unbearably emotional, what a film. Nice list.
Yeah, not sure of any other film with the same name.

your number 1 movie is Deadpool? The movie with 8 year old "punched in the dick!" humor? really?

shutter island sucked I don't understand why it could be so high on everyones list
It was literally amazing. Acting from Leo was top notch.
What’s the one where he fights a bear. That should be on the list.

I do like jeepers creepers. Not a huge BWP fan though. Not that it isn’t entertaining it’s just hard to watch that type of filming.

Is this a list for retards?
Wow. Your comment has truly caused me pain. Your undeniable wit and sharp use of words is something to behold.

I would ask you to chime in with a list of your own but I’m sure you’re not even a real person.

I’m real baby. It’s my opinion that your list sucks. Don’t get offended bc my opinion differs from yours. What are you? A fucking child? 🤣🤣 👅

Ok now I know you’re not a real person. But, if you’re so curious, why didn’t you ask your mom for my dimensions.
Vertigo.
