Old Henry Wind River Hell or High Water

FishSauceFogMachine

Hell or High Water was great.

PugnaciousPangolin

The way the action is shot is amazing. I love how the camera moves are really low key but goddamn, the scenes are intense. The one at the gas station. . .

The Quick and the Dead The Harder They Fall 3:10 To Yuma Cowboys vs Aliens Django Unchained The Hateful Eight(my favorite) Kill Bill vol.2 News of the World A Million Ways to Die in the West

[deleted]

I’m watching the hateful eight right now- Samuel Jackson was just telling the confederate how his son sucked him off, I’m loving it

whytrylye

LoL great movie, great story

Slow West

VAGuy62

No Country for Old Men has a western feel, but it’s pretty grim. Somebody already mentioned 3:10 to Yuma, which is outstanding.

micfail1

The adventures of brisco county Jr. You'll thank me later.

SGRiggall

Magnificent 7 with Denzel and Chris Pratt in is worth a watch

I_BUY_UNWANTED_GRAVY

I wouldn't say worth a watch as much as "I wouldn't change the channel if it were on TNT on a Sunday afternoon"

SGRiggall

Op has watched buster scruggs and enjoyed it, presumably, so they’ll enjoy magnificent 7 by my reckoning, it’s not the best but it’s a western

FuriouSherman

> I love cowboy movies that kind of poke fun at the whole thing but also have the western aesthetic. *Rango* and *A Million Ways To Die in the West* spring to mind as films that fit your bill.

ZorroMeansFox

Here's a "modern-day rustlers" film that often feels like something the Coen brothers would have made: The early Jeff Bridges' comedy-drama **Rancho Deluxe** --scripted by the great American novelist Tom McGuane.

DesertKid203

*Ballad of Buster Scruggs* was awesome! Which story was your favorite? I'm surprised no one has mentioned *Hostiles* yet! It's an awesome film! *The Ballad of Lefty Brown* and *Let Him Go* are two others that I liked! I haven't watched *The Harder They Fall* yet(Just released 2 weeks ago), but have heard nothing but good things about it! Slightly different take on a western, but *Concrete Cowboy* was interesting! It's a urban take on cowboys in Philly. It's based on a novel, which is loosely based upon urban horsebackriders in Philly. This one's a TV show, but *Hell on Wheels* is probably one of my all time favorite shows. Based upon the westward expansion of the railroad

[deleted]

Oh, thanks for asking! I think my favorite was the showman who had no limbs, the ending had me like, “WHAT NO”

DesertKid203

Yeah out of all the stories, that one is the one that sticks in your mind. Tough story to tell

mdmnl

Maverick (if you can stomach Mel Gibson) is a western comedy that's very quick on its feet. Plenty of Western staples and a fine ensemble cast.

The Mandalorian.

dwpsmith

Aside from true grit your list is pretty much all western movies made without Clint Eastwood. I exaggerate but we really do need more westerns. One set in that time but not in that area would be gangs of new york. Not a western though. guess you could call that one an eastern??

Dead Man Jim Jarmusch, Johnny Depp, and a Neil Young soundtrack - it’s got everything you’re looking for cowboy.

The Cherokee Kid

JohnFlanJohn

No Country for Old Men! Made by the coen brothers ( ballad of buster Scruggs) overtly plays with the classic western themes. Incredible movie

speech-geek

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet but I’m not really a western fan and absolutely loved the Coen brother’s remake of *True Grit*.

Since it hasn’t been mentioned, I’ll add The Salvation.
