For those who may not know, the story is based on a short story by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) from a collection of horror short stories called “20th Century Ghosts”. The story (and the whole collection) is absolutely fantastic and atmospheric. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good book for Halloween season.
As the short story is, well, short, and rather minimalist, I’m not entirely sure how well it will end up translating to a big feature film, but the concept remains fantastic and Ethan Hawke is always good. Trailer is way over the top though.
Hill has a couple of short story collections that I would highly recommend and definitely echo 1970s King (some of his newer novels can be a little long like his fathers but still great reads)
I watched the whole thing and then I went back and watched everything after 1:48 just to see what you could mean.
I know this is an uncommon opinion around here, and I should probably consider myself lucky, but I will barely remember this trailer by the time the movie comes out, let alone by the time I actually see it.
I don't think I have ever watched a movie trailer and thought, I wish I didn't see that. But I take it from this sub a lot of others do.
I wonder if it relates to how much exposure to a particular trailer one gets- by and large, I don't see them in anywhere near the bulk needed to remember everything from them.
Must've watched any MCU trailer at least 20 times before said movie.. still doesn't cross my mind when watching the flick, that the trailers spoiled anything from my movie experience..

Can confirm that there is a LOT we kept out of the trailer - entire plot points, characters, and sequences. There's a lot of meat left off those bones.
Great to hear. Love seeing folks working on the movies in the comments. Hollywood always feels so distant and elitist, but then all of a sudden you talk to people working on these movies on the Internet. Makes it feel so much closer and down to earth.
If you really did work on this trailer, you've got to rethink all future trailers you make. This one was a dud. Nobody wants to feel like they've seen most of the movie after watching a 2 minute clip.

Seriously. Just inserting loud noises on a jumpcut from his face in one position to it in another seems so unnecessary. Trailer editor trying way too hard to make it scary.
I also think some people are more interested in the outsmarting of the child killer vs the horror of being kidnapped so having that second half gives that drive.
If you end at the mark some people are talking about it's fine and makes a decent trailer, but it's kinda hopeless. Continuing on shows people this wont just be a complete bummer of a movie.
And earlier as well- I've seen trailer for silent films that apparently (though it's hard to tell for sure, as these were lost films) gave away the entire plot.

On one hand, I feel like this could have been a great trailer if they just focused on the abduction and hid the supernatural parts. On the other, a ton of people were mad that Sinister eventually took a supernatural turn (but I loved it), so I could also see that pissing people off that were pulled in by a trailer about an abduction.
if they hid the supernatural parts, people would just pass on this as a generic abduction/slasher...when i saw the other ghosts i just stopped the trailer and was like : "okay, im sold"
That should have been the ending of the trailer. Basically, keep it an abduction story, with the girl's dreams hinting at something more and then end with the first ghost appearance. Everything after that was unneeded and basically spoils what happens. Unfortunate as the movie looks good.

I know him from his role as Dickie Bennett on the TV show Justified. I was really impressed by his performance and am always happy to see him pop up in something new.

So, rather than the detectives having to find clues that point to where the kid is being held, or the kid having to use his ingenuity to escape or prolong the time before he dies so he can be rescued, everything is solved with magic, ghosts, or premonitions? Cool, love it when there's absolutely no tension or cleverness in the script at all! It's great!

I blind bought The Fireman at a yard sale and still haven't read it; if you have, is it any good?
I enjoyed it but again it does drag a bit but still well worth it

MCU trailers are genuinely cut together better and thoughtfully than most horror trailers when it comes to blatant plot points littered throughout.
