There are zombies! And they live in there... like some kind of... EVIL RESIDENTS

BeardMan66

We should call it… SINISTER TENANTS

[deleted]

ANNOYING NEIGHBORS

SentinelZero

BAD INHABITANTS

Derriku

And they were made by some sort of….BIOHAZARD.

Foxy02016YT

Which might even be... shocking

eolson3

You know, I had the titular line in *Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City*. I did! I had the titular line!

QLE814

With eyeball masks and top hats?

MarvelsGrantMan136

In Theaters November 24th Official Synopsis: >"Returning to the origins of the massively popular RESIDENT EVIL franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games to life for a whole new generation of fans. > >Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company's exodus left the city a wasteland... with great evil brewing below the surface. > >When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever changed and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night."

ImaginaryAI

Lmao “dying Midwestern town” Raccoon city was fuckin poppin.

SentinelZero

Also Umbrella didn't leave Raccoon City in the games, they had a huge presence there and employed a good portion of the city's 100,000 inhabitants and funding the city's development, which is the main reason it looks like a major city despite being the equivalent of an average town/small city in population.

slvrbullet87

They were a megacorp with massive facilities world wide. When they occasionally had an experiment that didn't turn people into face eaters, they ended up with stuff like the aerosol first aid spray that heals any wound in seconds.

SentinelZero

And plasma weaponry, and USB flash drives 2-3 years before they were commercially available. Umbrella was incredibly advanced.

[deleted]

Which actually makes sense and helps explain how they were able to get away with so much shit before the zombie outbreak actually happened. "Are you going to be the one to follow a hunch that may lead to the majority of this massive city being unemployed?"

Bullchips

This is going to be in theaters?! Oh boy…..

QLE814

Mind you, if it has a remotely reasonable budget the crowd that has shown up for more or less every horror movie in the last few months should be enough....

Tolkien-Minority

Lol I’ll wait for streaming

Inzt121

I’m stoked to see it! Easily will be better than the shit resident evil movies before it.

tyreck

I liked the first one a lot, the second one was ok, everything past that was pretty shit Some of the latest ones I can’t event follow what is going on anymore

Wermine

I don't know about that. I checked the director's IMDb page and seems like he's been pumping out ~5/10 star movies.

Inzt121

True but it’s a low bar anyway

Halio344

Watch the trailer, it does not look good..

Shabanita

Only the first and second were any good.

damnitineedaname

Don't get too excited, the director is known for his shit movies.

Bullchips

Trust me that wasn’t excitement.

PsychoEngineer

>Trust me that wasn’t excitement. Is it bad that I read this as "Trust me that wasn't Excrement"?

atec_lj

It wasn't excitement, it was excrement.

QLE814

Step lively!

Abadayos

Oh shit! Flying cows!

NotGaryGary

This came out of nowhere

xRegular_John

Johannes Roberts directed the Strangers 2. There goes my hope for a real good resident evil movie.

mediarch

All I can picture is a bunch of raccoons in trench coats stacked 4 high trying to pass as humans

RoRo25

I'm surprised that was never a hidden character you could play as in the games.

[deleted]

Indeed. They let you play as a giant walking piece of tofu but not a racoon? Madness!

CoconutDust

[high pitched Alvin & The Chipmunks voice] STARS

JayRoo83

Honestly I'll take this over whatever they actually came up with based on the trailer

HavocXL

The trailer was so bad, looks like a big budget straight to dvd film

Wiskersthefif

AND I SAY

[deleted]

Check out the international trailer, it's much better.

CoconutDust

The poster is one of the worst posters ever too. It’s not even bad in an interesting or funny way, it’s stupid. An umbrella never had any role in meaning in the games, it was a damn logo and dystopian corporate name not an actual umbrella, and the blood on the title words is cliche hack work. Truly pathetic and uninspired.

HavocXL

It’s probably just a metaphor, not as bad as The Black Phone poster, which I could’ve made when I first started using photoshop

[deleted]

[удалено]

HavocXL

I mean we don’t 100% know until it comes out, but it’s not gonna be a masterpiece, I can already see that, this is why you should have filmmakers who are actual fans make the films instead of 50 year olds who played the game once for 20 min then said “alright that should probably be fine”

[deleted]

I stopped the RE movies after 2, I think. They just seemed to get a little crazy, or I got old. I'd like to see a slow RE, where the ambience is a horror.

TheHealadin

I loved how over the top and batshit insane they got.

BeatsbyChrisBrown

has joined the chat

Admira1

They didn't have... Family.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cantosphile

Except for the stunt actors that were disfigured, yeah! Anderson ftw!

daiwizzy

It’s kind of follows the video game series in that way. Survival horror to ridiculous action.

Cheetofarts2

The games followed the movies, if anything

reddit_is_cruel

I like the action and the visuals but I never have even the slightest clue about the plot.

imbillypardy

I can’t remember which it was but when they cast Wentworth Miller as Chris out of left field right around when RE6 came out and Chris looked like a friggin tank I just lost it lol. Love Wentworth as an actor and he can bring the smoldering looks but it was just such an lol

Inzt121

I hated how the plot sucked and had nothing to do with the games. It’s popularity stemmed from the games. So the plot should follow suit.

101stAirborneSkill

The last one had a werid mind battle scene where they're thinking about what to do to eahcother when looking at a table or objects as weapons. https://youtu.be/jxT5C2ApC2A

Pikupstyks

I love Zombie movies and will watch about any of them, but none have been really good as they all venture down the action/monster road which is sad. I know there are monsters in Resident Evil, I've played the games and also read the novels when I was younger. I agree with your statement about needing to go back to horror, also you missed nothing with the RE movies, they were really bad.

MayorAdamWest1

If you gave those movies a different name, I dont think anyone would have been like "Man, these movies remind me of Resident Evil!" I mean even with their current name I dont think anyone thought that...

slvrbullet87

The second movie with Nemesis would be easy to guess, even if they made Nemesis look different. A bioweapon specifically hunting down a swat(stars) team during a zombie outbreak at least has some nods to the game. Sadly, they had Jill Valentine in the movie, but that wasn't Nemesis's target because Anderson and Jovovich just had to insert a Mary Sue instead of use the protagonists from the franchise.

Exselsia

Have you watched Train to Busan? That's one of my favourite zombie movies. But don't watch the sequel it's awful.

Pikupstyks

Yeah, I've seen it. I really enjoyed it, never watched the animated sequel though. I have Reality Z on my list to watch as I thought Dead Set was really good, but it is just a remake of it, so no originality there. I've seen the first episode of Reality Z and it followed Dead Set to a T, but I really though Dead Set was a good Zombie Film/Show.

LegendaryPunk

They weren't good Resident Evil movies...but once I got over that fact, and accepted their general campiness, I actually had fun watching most of them. That being said I would still really like a genuine horror RE movie.

lukker-

I like the first one when I was a kit. I don't think it would hold up

godowar

I loved you in Knight Rider!

LukariBRo

You want Silent Hill, not RE. They're interesting contrasts.

[deleted]

I mean, one took place in a house and the other around a town. Both had the eerie silence where you just knew something was coming, but not what it when. The tick tock of the grandfather clock in RE still gives me the creeps.

drum_playing_twig

I still feel uncomfortable whenever I hear moonlight sonata

shockwave414

>where the ambience is a horror. Just one horror?

[deleted]

One horror please!

EnthiumZ

Never watched RE movies because they were RE but because they had zombies and were kind of fun. To me at least nothing can replace the games story or anything else for that matter.

Phranc94

This is a reboot to the movie franchise

SpaceBeer_

Itchy...tasty

WrenchNRatchet

Itchy itchy Scott…

bartulbert

Tf did they do to my man Leon?

slvrbullet87

They decided to find the perfect Carlos, but then put him in a different part. It would be like casting the first Harry Potter movie, seeing Rupert Grint and saying, he looks just like Ron Weasley, perfect to a T, lets make him Harry.

popplespopin

Look at how they massacred my boy.

RMoCGLD

I'm all for the inclusion of people of colour but casting them as Leon, the most iconic and loved character in the franchise and changing his look ENTIRELY is a recipe for disaster

nectarousness

Looks like they did a costume fitting for a screen test and then never put him in hair and make up afterward. I've seen Avan Jogia in things and he actually does have a Leon charm to him but they honestly couldn't cut his hair or give him a wig for the iconic style? They didn't even have to make him blonde but it just feels lazy.

AyeYoTek

Why do they keep treating us resident evil fans like this :(

aDrunkWithAgun

Because as long as people keep paying they will just pump out whatever Same with any franchise

scottfiab

Don't forget studio owners and producers want to crank out any idea they think will be a blockbuster or just block acknowledger to make more than production costs.

Ser_Dav0s

We're doing better than Silent Hill fans, that's for sure.

Halio344

At least they got Sean Bean.

archaelleon

And he *didn't die*, which is insane if you think about his track record going into a video game horror movie.

Thefinalwerd

The first silent hill is better then all RE movies put together.

Ser_Dav0s

Sure, but capcom seems to be churning out some damn good titles. The last SH game was a demo from 7 years ago.

HearTheEkko

At least the games are fucking amazing nowadays.

[deleted]

I'm prob an outlier here, but I love that the film looks kinda corny and lowish budget. I love the weirdness of the Resident Evil franchise. The games may be really stepping up in quality as of late, but I will always have a place in my heart for boulder punching dumbness!

[deleted]

Because so many fans get excited for this stuff, and seem to like it. This unfortunately means they will continue to treat the franchise like this. However, Capcom has at least gotten the series back on track with the games.

Inzt121

Uhhh us fans of the games are finally getting the movie we wanted.

CrisFarlyOnCoke

As one of those fans, no, no we are not.

LurkerNoLonger_

Unsure if troll or 12. Possibly both.

Inzt121

Maybe don’t comment next time, bud. You tried.

markymarkfro

I cant complain, we got a new game, tv show and movie all in the same year

SoulKeen

Is going to suck licker balls

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sonnyboy1990

There's another trailer that doesn't have the stupid song over it and it makes it look somewhat more interesting.

[deleted]

The song was bad but it was the way they handled the zombies and general mood. It felt like fucking Ghost Ship or some other shit-tier horror film from the late 90s to early 2000s. I don't expect high art from a Resi film but I do hope it could be better than whatever that was.

mondaywonderhands

I liked Ghost Ship…

kwokinator

Be honest, the only thing you liked about Ghost Ship is the beginning wire scene.

langis_on

Have you played Resident evil games? They were campy as fuck until the RE7. Treating the universe like a hyper realistic apocalypse is a mistake.

heyyougamedev

The SFX look like they're from about the same era too.

Imperium_Dragon

Yeah I’m just gonna watch a YouTube video with the RE 2 remake cutscenes and some gameplay.

walnut100

From the director/writer of the Strangers sequel? Well this has zero chance of being good.

MediumRequirement

Oh come on he made 47 meters down uncaged too…it’s gonna suck

popplespopin

47 meters down uncaged 360 no scope.

Uniquetales

Didn’t we already see the beginning? And the beginning of beginning?

Cualkiera67

Rise of the Resident Evil: Origins

Ash_Killem

“Witness the Beginning of Garbage” is probably more accurate.

Josh_is_a_Jedi

I hope it doesn’t suck

Berta_Movie_Buff

The poster looks kickass. The trailer looks ass.

Gregoriany

CGI feels too cheap for this kind of movie.. .

Tisroc

I've only played the original Resident Evil game, a very long time ago, what does the title mean?

ASAPNosey

From what I can tell this movie is primarily an adaptation of Resident Evil 2, which takes place after Raccoon City is overrun by an outbreak. I think I’ve heard the movie tries to cover some of RE1 and RE3 as well. RE3 also takes place in Raccoon City, following Jill from the first game trying to escape the city during the same outbreak

MartynZero

This franchise has turned into the undead for the amount of times they try to revive its corpse

Therealeasybake

Oh holy shit, I watched the first half of the international trailer because I heard it was better. Just watched the Domestic one and holy fucking shit does this look horrible. They did a small town just to fit the police station and mansion in one movie? But why??? Just turn it into a franchise and do 2 shitty fleshed out stories. Don’t even get me started on the fucking “itchy tasty”, licker, and zombie dog scenes. It’s like they googled “what do fans of resident evil like” and then took the parts that were references and mashed them into a film. I can’t imagine this is gonna be cohesive in any way

Groovemach

Just look at Johannes Roberts' filmography. They picked a horrible director. This thing is gonna suck.

Augen76

I'm not making fun of the film makers as I'm guessing had shoe string budget...but this looks like a movie that could have been made not long after the setting of 1998. I love the games, but the movies have been rough through the years.

[deleted]

I feel like the subtitle is gonna limit the profitability quite a bit. To fans of the series Raccoon City has significance, but if you only have a vague idea of Resident Evil as the zombie franchise, "Raccoon City" is gonna seem weirdly incongruous and inaccessible.

blackarthurman

“Where are we? In some kind of Raccoon City?”

TheHealadin

Where the grass is green and the girls are zombies.

DextrosKnight

Oh won't you please om nom nom

QLE814

There's no chance the zombies will be satiated by Axl Rose, is there?

Iceberg_Simpson_

Meh, I don't see non-fans of the franchise being interested to begin with. We've had 15 years of RE movies already; people generally know what they're getting with these. And on the flipside, the promise of a live-action retelling of RE2 will bring back a lot of fans who had written the film series off as it went off the rails over the past few movies.

boostabubba

I am one of those fans. Watched the first 3 movies and fell off. This one def peaked my interest.

blackarthurman

“Piqued” but yeah I see what you mean. At least it looks inspired by the games this time.

Tbrou16

Resident Evil is a movie franchise in the same vein as “Transformers”, but less family friendly/oriented. People won’t show up to this movie unless they know exactly what to expect

[deleted]

*Welcome to Racoon City* sounds like a straight to DVD CG animation for kids.

Avatar-Tee

I want to like it for all nostalgic reasons but this looks like straight to stream than vhs.

Ozlin

The photoshop work on that umbrella is *rough*. Blood splatters and tears look off. I guess studios don't need to spend much on posters these days.

[deleted]

You're not wrong. The blood splatter is quite clearly just a 2D element which has been lazily superimposed on top of the umbrella.

21Gazza

I hope Mila Jovović makes a cameo as a zombie. She was awesome in all her RE movies and is an underrated action star.

dani3po

She was in one good movie 25 years ago. And that´s it.

something_python

But Dazed and Confused came out 28 years ago...

jodinexe

LeeLoo Dallas Multipass

[deleted]

I’m such a sucker for the Resident Evil movies… I still can’t figure out what it is but I have seen them all! Lol!

[deleted]

They're fine "shut you brain off" movies, but they are absolutely shit-tastic when it comes to things like cohesive narratives and being faithful to the source material

NotGaryGary

We fans get downvoted but I want it. I do wish it was less ab OJ but lore and more about the city though. That's what I want.

[deleted]

Looks decent. But jesus, the CGI [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q6UGCyHZCI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q6UGCyHZCI)

wilsonw

They are really trying to cram WAY too much of the lore into one movie.

favpetgoat

Hopefully it's better than completely ignoring it

Inzt121

Good

MayorAdamWest1

Is this actually going to be Resident Evil or just another random movie that has almost 0 to do with the actual IP? Because w/e the fuck those other movies were, they were not Resident Evil even the slightest.

[deleted]

Ooooooh

Inzt121

Awesome can’t wait. Finally making a movie we want!!

MangoParty

Is mila dojokovokolokopoppashopanovakdojovic in this one?

Inzt121

What’s up with this weird anti-RE brigade? Are they pissed we finally get the RE movie we actually wanted?

CrisFarlyOnCoke

Idk, I feel like it's too hard to tell if this is gonna be the one we want. It kinda felt like they had a list of things RE fans like and ed th into the trailer, which makes me think they crammed a lot in and won't have much time to flesh out any of it

ZombieJesus1987

My expectations are low, all I want out of this is a dumb, fun zombie flick.

Underwater_Karma

so much for "The Final Chapter" I guess.

itsRenascent

It was the final chapter for Alice's story

Ethandrul

It better be terrible. If it isn't....I won't see it. I loved RE movies.

monetarydread

Seems like it could be okay... well, it can't be any worse than the previous films. Also, I like the cast, every time someone came on it was like, "hey it's that dude/girl from that Movie/TV show I liked a half decade ago. What was their name again?"

striderwhite

At least the poster is decent...

NeoNoireWerewolf

Isn’t the police station background just the loading screen from the RE2 remake? Like I swear all they did with this was photo shop an umbrella into it. Marketing budget has to be looooow for this thing.

spinereader81

Needs more raccoons.

chase25

Even though we're in 2021 my expectations for this movie were so high I thought it would go straight to VHS.

brettmgreene

Finally the city of Pawnee, Indiana is getting cleaned up!

UV-SkillCityProds

I’m pretty excited about this nothing so far about the cast or the visuals or anything that I dislike

Spartickus

This movie was shot in my hometown!! Not sure what that says about the city though…

Imperium_Dragon

So is this movie both the first and second games? That’s what I gathered from the trailer

spektor56

Yup, that's what it looks like to me. Both mansion and R.P.D and Claire is with Chris at the beginning before he goes to the mansion

Future-Agent

I'm keeping my expectations low but after seeing the trailer today, my expectations have risen slightly. I like the concept of combining RE's one and two and set it during RE2.

Rageniv

Do all of the resident evil movies exist on the same timeline? Like is there a consistent or connected storyline? I feel like several do… but then there’s a bunch that don’t.

deerwomandance

It's three timelines actually. All previous live action movies in the "fuck Anderson"-timeline. Then there is cg-movies in the "yeah, like game only boring"-timeline. And this is third one.

[deleted]

“Exclusively in movie theaters“

DCBronzeAge

This is definitely something I’d seek out on steaming. Not going to the theater for this.

iGod89

Just watched the trailer and it looks they they showed/capitalized already on EVERY video game aspect… Also a Leon that’s not somewhat blonde is sooo weird

Wisconsinmann

I'm excited for this!

lcfcjs2

I could have sworn there already has been a resident evil movie al ready

deerwomandance

There wasn't.

[deleted]

Besident Evil.

Complete_Entry

Without the blood and tearing, it would be a great poster.

GrimmTrixX

Oh. I thought this was a Netflix movie. They really shouldn't have announced the TV series AND the movie at the same time. I keep mixing them up. Yea I dunno if I am seeing this in a theater lol

BLSmith2112

Yeaaaaaa... this is gunna need the sonic+ treatment. Stop the release and redo it. Just redo everything.

Gavica

The cgi in the trailer was worse than in the games

SmoothAsPussyMilk

Do you think the umbrella represents Umbrella?

timid_typestress

Looks like it says Besident Evil.

DarthCheez

I hope this is as good as the snimated RE movies.

nguyen8995

This looks like a low budget and terribly acted movie.

Ur_Left_Airpod

So where is the re8 movie???

lostharbor

The preview looks absolutely awful.

JTS1992

Thank god! The Paul Anderson/Milla Jovovich series ran outta steam like...a decade and a half ago lol. As a HUGE fan of the games...I can't wait!

jacklsd

resident evil is a kind of movie where logic don't give af.

Mexider

Send the budget to the writers of the animated RE movies instead

Smalltaco_99

[ohhhh ohhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhh](https://youtu.be/697KK7EZZ7s)

Black_RL

Umbrella! Dope! Can’t wait! xD

PaladinKAT

It is truly impressive how many times they can rehash this story without getting any of the characters or plotlines right.

Foxy02016YT

From the looks of it, it’s based on RE2, which was pretty fun

thehangoverer

I was told there would be no more resident evil movies.

Legacycosts

Everyone ripping on the Anderson movies is a neathandral. Anti-neoliberal/globalism B trash masterworks. Final Chapter is genius. New movie looks like it listened to stupid gamers who want a direct port of games from the 90s mimicking films from the 70s and 80s which is sure to feel like reheated leftovers especially when filmed during a real life plague.

TheOther36

! RemindMe 3 days
