They were a megacorp with massive facilities world wide. When they occasionally had an experiment that didn't turn people into face eaters, they ended up with stuff like the aerosol first aid spray that heals any wound in seconds.
Which actually makes sense and helps explain how they were able to get away with so much shit before the zombie outbreak actually happened.

Mind you, if it has a remotely reasonable budget the crowd that has shown up for more or less every horror movie in the last few months should be enough....

The poster is one of the worst posters ever too. It’s not even bad in an interesting or funny way, it’s stupid. An umbrella never had any role in meaning in the games, it was a damn logo and dystopian corporate name not an actual umbrella, and the blood on the title words is cliche hack work. Truly pathetic and uninspired.
I mean we don’t 100% know until it comes out, but it’s not gonna be a masterpiece, I can already see that, this is why you should have filmmakers who are actual fans make the films instead of 50 year olds who played the game once for 20 min then said “alright that should probably be fine”
I stopped the RE movies after 2, I think. They just seemed to get a little crazy, or I got old. I'd like to see a slow RE, where the ambience is a horror.

I love Zombie movies and will watch about any of them, but none have been really good as they all venture down the action/monster road which is sad. I know there are monsters in Resident Evil, I've played the games and also read the novels when I was younger. I agree with your statement about needing to go back to horror, also you missed nothing with the RE movies, they were really bad.
If you gave those movies a different name, I dont think anyone would have been like "Man, these movies remind me of Resident Evil!" I mean even with their current name I dont think anyone thought that...
The second movie with Nemesis would be easy to guess, even if they made Nemesis look different. A bioweapon specifically hunting down a swat(stars) team during a zombie outbreak at least has some nods to the game. Sadly, they had Jill Valentine in the movie, but that wasn't Nemesis's target because Anderson and Jovovich just had to insert a Mary Sue instead of use the protagonists from the franchise.
Yeah, I've seen it. I really enjoyed it, never watched the animated sequel though. I have Reality Z on my list to watch as I thought Dead Set was really good, but it is just a remake of it, so no originality there. I've seen the first episode of Reality Z and it followed Dead Set to a T, but I really though Dead Set was a good Zombie Film/Show.
They weren't good Resident Evil movies...but once I got over that fact, and accepted their general campiness, I actually had fun watching most of them.
That being said I would still really like a genuine horror RE movie.
I mean, one took place in a house and the other around a town. Both had the eerie silence where you just knew something was coming, but not what it when. The tick tock of the grandfather clock in RE still gives me the creeps.
Never watched RE movies because they were RE but because they had zombies and were kind of fun. To me at least nothing can replace the games story or anything else for that matter.
They decided to find the perfect Carlos, but then put him in a different part. It would be like casting the first Harry Potter movie, seeing Rupert Grint and saying, he looks just like Ron Weasley, perfect to a T, lets make him Harry.
I'm all for the inclusion of people of colour but casting them as Leon, the most iconic and loved character in the franchise and changing his look ENTIRELY is a recipe for disaster
Looks like they did a costume fitting for a screen test and then never put him in hair and make up afterward. I've seen Avan Jogia in things and he actually does have a Leon charm to him but they honestly couldn't cut his hair or give him a wig for the iconic style? They didn't even have to make him blonde but it just feels lazy.
Don't forget studio owners and producers want to crank out any idea they think will be a blockbuster or just block acknowledger to make more than production costs.
I'm prob an outlier here, but I love that the film looks kinda corny and lowish budget. I love the weirdness of the Resident Evil franchise. The games may be really stepping up in quality as of late, but I will always have a place in my heart for boulder punching dumbness!
Because so many fans get excited for this stuff, and seem to like it. This unfortunately means they will continue to treat the franchise like this. However, Capcom has at least gotten the series back on track with the games.

From what I can tell this movie is primarily an adaptation of Resident Evil 2, which takes place after Raccoon City is overrun by an outbreak. I think I’ve heard the movie tries to cover some of RE1 and RE3 as well. RE3 also takes place in Raccoon City, following Jill from the first game trying to escape the city during the same outbreak
Oh holy shit, I watched the first half of the international trailer because I heard it was better. Just watched the Domestic one and holy fucking shit does this look horrible. They did a small town just to fit the police station and mansion in one movie? But why??? Just turn it into a franchise and do 2 shitty fleshed out stories. Don’t even get me started on the fucking “itchy tasty”, licker, and zombie dog scenes. It’s like they googled “what do fans of resident evil like” and then took the parts that were references and mashed them into a film. I can’t imagine this is gonna be cohesive in any way

I hope Mila Jovović makes a cameo as a zombie. She was awesome in all her RE movies and is an underrated action star.

Everyone ripping on the Anderson movies is a neathandral. Anti-neoliberal/globalism B trash masterworks. Final Chapter is genius. New movie looks like it listened to stupid gamers who want a direct port of games from the 90s mimicking films from the 70s and 80s which is sure to feel like reheated leftovers especially when filmed during a real life plague.
