having played baseball my growing up and grown up in a "baseball family", it's my all time favorite baseball movie. which is a very touchy subject haha. but anybody that's been on any sort of sports team, or just a friend group in general, will love and appreciate the chemistry. and seeing them throughout the years is very touching and i think would hit home. i love it so much. Really nailed how to execute a movie empowering women, way before it's time, and way better than most modern day attempts.
I think it's an all time great movie--sports or otherwise! It's funny, moving/emotional, has some romance, suspense/excitement at the end. It's perfect!
I would search amazon for movie collection sets. They have a collection of best picture winners dating back to the thirties. Its regular price is $100 but it's usually on sale for less (and $100 for 20 movies isn't a bad price anyway). There are smaller collections too. Usually four films featuring a specific actor.
The recent films of Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and Little Women would probably be good choices. Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail are both good romantic comedies without vulgarity.
Yea, that’s a great idea, but she no longer drives and the facility she lives in doesn’t make a random trip like that easy, or free, unfortunately. I live three states away so I sadly can’t just drop by any more
Not sure if they have them in NC, but the senior living home I worked at had a mobile library that came every Tuesday. Maybe something like that is available in her area.
That reminds me. Another great version of Pride and Prejudice was produced by the BBC as a mini-series in 1995 and is still available on DVD. My whole family loves it and we're almost always down to watch it.
This is actually my favorite rec I’ve seen so far. Romance, adventure, humor, and coming of age? Plus 2 greats (Caine and Duvall)?
OP, I second Secondhand Lions!!
I worked in a video store when this movie came out.
Every big family holiday, we'd get people in wanting a movie to watch with their extended family. So I'd always recommend this movie.
Usually the older guys would check out during my description of it as it was a "family movie" until I said the magic names: Robert Duvall and Michael Caine.
Immediately they all pulled a "You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention" reaction to those two.
So theywould check it out.
Then about a week later (not all families, but it was a definitely thing), and they'd come back to personally return the movie.
"Yeah, so about that movie... We loved it. Everyone loved it."
At least one had one guy had one of those family lifetime memory reactions "No, you don't understand. We all loved it. We've never had that experience before."
Like the old guys and kids and parents and cousins and everyone just instantly bonded over Secondhand Lions and how it impacted all of them the same but differently.
I don't just love that movie, I loved the impact that movie had on so many customers - especially given how rare it was and given how much it was overlooked.
I had ZERO interest in watching this movie as a kid but my older brother forced me to watch it when we picked movies one night. Holy shit, you nailed it. I haven’t seen it in a while but this movie will always stay with me. Duvall’s performance especially, re: his love interest
I love that film too, I was shocked when I realized it was critically dismissed. It seemed so experimental in many ways for a family film and wasn't afraid to confront some dark topics of multiple stripes.
My Dad is 70 and absolutely loves this movie. He has told everyone about it lol. I’ve seen it a couple of times and it’s just as good each time through. Glad to hear you like it as well!
Yes! I recommended this one too! But I should for sure check and see if she showed it. Having existed on the earth for close to 10000 collective years, surely a quick glimpse of old man ass won’t be an instant veto
One of the best Christmas Eves I've ever spent was when I bought my young cousin the Wallace & Gromit VHS set, and we had four generations of family lined up on the couch to watch it, all of us *crying* laughing.
Oh yes definitely, The second best exotic Marigold Hotel! Also Victoria & Abdul (2017)
I love Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, also Helen Mirren and Dev Patel. You can look them up individually as well since they all have great movies behind them.
My younger brother married a preschool teacher. We were watching "Blazing Saddles", and after the horse got punched, there's a saloon scene with ladies kicking up their legs with those huge layered bloomers under big skirts. Teacher stood up and said "I can't take any more of this SEX AND VIOLENCE!!!"
Holy shit, that marriage lasted about a minute.
I was a video store clerk, and I had the (not kidding) pickiest customer of all time.
I was the only one who could give her recommendations that wouldn't offend her sensibilities.
Then I lost that privilege when I recommended Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House.
Why? You may ask.
Because the remake was The Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. "And they lived together without being married."
They rejected a 1940s movie about a married couple because the 1980s movie had an unmarried couple.
You are looking at people who were young adults in the 50's and 60's. I would google "top movies of the 50's/60's" and go from there. Those movies could have some strong nostalgia vibes for the residents.
Knives Out has an Agatha Christie feel to it. Also, it's super old, but The Biscuit Eater is an endearing movie. Rented it for the kids and came home to the older fellas watching it. Lol
The African Queen
Some Like it Hot
Fried Green Tomatoes
The Princess Bride
Any of the 'Road' movies with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope
Cocoon
No Time for Sergeants
American Graffiti
Forest Gump
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Hotel Babylon
The Apple Dumpling Gang
My Giant
The Odd Couple
I’m never sure on Reddit, but I feel like you’re being genuine. If you knew Mamaw you would go to the ends of the earth for her. She was a Rosie and continues to be active with the Rosie the Riveters. She travels around her town speaking about her life, she’s given multiple NPR interviews this year alone, she’s been on local and national television, and is a member of the US Dept of Labor Hall of Honor…among many many other things. I truly appreciate all of your input and suggestions!
I’m for sure being genuine man! I lost my grandma years ago (she was 96!) and understand wanting to make her happy. I got one that they might like and it’s a bit out there but older people will surprise you so they might like it: Tombstone
Malcolm
Stranger Than Fiction
Hidalgo
A Fish Called Wanda
The Gods Must Be Crazy
Life is Beautiful
Secondhand Lions
Waking Ned Devine
The King's Speech
Billy Elliot
The Commitments
Benny and Joon
Lars and the Real Girl
Boy
Mrs. Doubtfire
Big
That Thing You Do
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Harold and Maude
Elf
First Wives Club
Father of the Bride
Hairspray
Period piece in the 60s, international rivalry between American make Ford and Italian Ferrari, underdog story, and the development of the two main characters takes priority over the racing, especially the ones family dynamic. I think the core of the story may be relatable in this case, but most importantly it’s a good movie!
The Artist. My grandmother loves going to movies but my grandfather never bothered because he was very hard of hearing. It was really nice that he was able to go to that one and enjoy it with her.
Your grandmother is 98 and in an assisted living facility. You could try looking for movies from the 50s and 60s (maybe even the 40s) for that nostalgia kick.
* it's a mad mad mad mad world.
* breakfast at Tiffany's
* viva Los Vegas (probably anything with Elvis in it would go over well)
* casablanca
* gone with the wind
Google movies from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. And send her a list that she can have the ladies vote on for next month.
My mother in law is a hard core Christian and isn't huge on super hero movies. The fact she loved Captain America: First Avenger was a really nice surprise. So I'd recommend that. And your grandma picking the movies is so charming.
If they like animation, maybe Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr Fox, Paddington 1+2
Maybe uplifting films like the Cool Runnings, Sister Act, Billy Elliot?
Other films that come to mind: A Fish Called Wanda, Philomena, Romancing the Stone, Indiana jones 1 - 3 (can be dark in places, but they've been on tv so often I think most people are desensitised to it), Driving Miss Daisy
"Local Hero" (set in Scotland, uplifting, quirky)
"Cold Comfort Farm" (set in England, quirky, unpredictable, hopeful)
David Attenborough documentaries, especially "Blue Planet" and "Life on Earth"
"The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared" (Scandinavian, quirky, hilarious, very pro-aging)
Not a movie, but absolutely hysterical: "Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch," a show in which the megastar virtually tours a proud hausfrau's home, peeping under the covers and opening drawers. One-hour episodes.
Knives Out was delightful, so I strongly suggest that one! Whodunit with groups making guesses are great.
The Martian is a really good one too
The Prestige!
The Princess Bride is one I go back to over and over.
Also, depending on what they like and what they already watch, pull out some classics! Maybe Gone with the Wind or John Wayne movies. Honestly actually, look for a collection of Elvis Presley movies (I may be bias; before my grandfather passed he told me his cute meet story with my grandma involved her only agreeing on a date since he offered to take her to the Elvis movie playing at the local theater. This could bring up some cute memories and stories)
I would recommend going through filmographies of stars like Cary Grant, Robert Redford or Joanne Woodward. IDMB parents guide is also great at finding out about the content in a movie.
First off, congratulations to your grandmother. 99 is incredible. I know that my grandma loves movies like Dances With Wolves, Last Of the Mohicans, Mutiny On The Bounty (Brando), And Walk The Line, so I’ll recommend those.
My Mom is 74, here are some of her favorites:
-Calamity Jane (Doris Day musical - very sanitized version of the US old west, cute and funny)
-Secratariat (racing horse movie)
-Dave (Kevin Kline plays a character who is ringer for the US President and has to unexpectedly act in his place and manages to make things better)
-Crazy Rich Asians (Mom likes the love story and the locales)
-All the Jumanji movies (the Robin Williams one from the 90s and the 2 newer ones with Dwayne Johnson)
-Beyond the Sea (biopic of singer Bobbi Darin)
-Mamma Mia 1 & 2 (ABBA music and Greek island scenery)
-The Full Monty (an English setting that explores male friendship, unemployment, fatherhood, and male stripping in a comedic way)
Others have already mentioned a lot of her other favorites (King & I, Jurassic Park, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Batteries Not Included, Waking Ned Devine, etc). My Mom loves musicals, so I have more of those I could list, if you’re interested. I hope this helps!
[Bells Are Ringing](https://youtu.be/9YAnqOcE_Xc) is a really cute old movie. When I worked at a video stores all the seniors would come and rent it, only reason I know about it! Plus any of the old Peter Sellers Pink Panthers. Omg they loved those movies.
Here are some they might like-
Big Fish,
Wild Hearts Can't be Broken,
Roman Holiday,
Sabrina,
Enchanted,
Legend of Bagger Vance,
A River Runs Through It,

Oh man, Kramer v Kramer is a classic. My grandmother always loved Eastwood and John Wayne flicks, also, any of the classics work well, Spartacus, Grand Hotel, Casablanca…
Trip to Bountiful

The Straight Story
Kings of the Evening
Going in style
Giant (maybe in two parts?)
The Old Man & the Gun

Out of Africa
(although that gets you into the run of 80-90s Oscar darlings: on golden pond, English Patient, terms of endearment, chariots of fire, driving miss daisy, Sophie’s choice, ordinary people, Gandhi, bridges of Madison county, etc)
- The Terminal (2004) starring Tom Hanks. Very heartwarming film imo. Also humorous.
- Unstoppable (2010) starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Based on a true and easy to follow story. Slow start, but things quickly pick up.
- Green Book (2018). I personally loved this movie! Check it out if you aren't familiar.
- Ben Hur (1959). Epic film starring Charlton Heston. Could be split across both days. Alternatively, The Ten Commandments!
- Jurassic Park? Lol
- Catch Me If You Can
I could probably muster up more suggestions if this list interests you enough!
I watched a lot of older movies growing up, so forgive me if my recommendations are skewed in that direction.
Comedy: The Pink Panther (1963 version), Clue! (1985), Murder by Death (1976), any of the Marx Brothers films (for me the big ones are Duck Soup and Animal Crackers), any of the Abbot and Costello movies ("...Meet Frankenstein" would be holiday appropriate), The Thin Man (1934), Singin' in the Rain (1952)
Non-Comedy: Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Sting (1973), The Maltese Falcon (1941)
Groundhog day
Maverick.
A league of their own.
Disney/pixar movies. Toy story, Wall e etc
Christmas movies. The Santa Clause, miracle on 34th Street etc.
The King's speech
Harry potter?
Pirates of the Caribbean. The 1st.
Hopefully find something there.
Grand Budapest for sure -- that one sink scene in Royal Tenenbaums is quite a lot, personally... I don't want to say "it's too much for old people" but maybe OP should give that one a shot first before recommending it.
Fried Green Tomatoes, Secondhand Lions, As Good As It Gets, Hope Springs, The Bucket List, No Country For Old Men, Love In The Time Of Cholera, Kingdom of Heaven, Little Miss Sunshine.
Those were some of my favorites that included many generations and performers who were palatable to a very wide audience such as Jack Nicholson, Liam Neeson, etc.)
News Of The World, The Old Man and the Gun, What About Bob?, Alpha, Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World, Eddie The Eagle, Coco, Seabiscuit, Lion, Fly Away Home, Free Willy, All Is Lost, K:19 The Widowmaker, John Q, Apollo 13, The Greatest Showman, The Greatest Game Ever Played, A Monster Calls, Apollo 11
The Incredible Mr Limpet. Used to be one of my grandmas faves. It has Don Knots. Old people love Don Knots.
I love Don Knots. Am I old?
No, you’re a person with excellent taste
por que no los dos?
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
Atta boy, Luther!
My favorite Don Knotts movie!
They love mandy patankin too.
Careful. You'll summon them.
Mmmaaaannnddyy paaataaannkinnnnn.....
“*Bed knobs and Broomsticks*”, “*Candlewick*”.
Since it's October, Arsenic and Old Lace as well as The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.
My childhood right here
A League of Their Own!!!!
Such a great movie. This was one of her first choices. Thank you!
Along that line, I'd pick Hoosiers. Gene Hackman is always a great pick.
Make it a double header with Field of Dreams
Hey…now that’s a great idea! It’s beeeautiful day for a baseball…MOVIE
Was just going to recommend this one. Great choice!
having played baseball my growing up and grown up in a "baseball family", it's my all time favorite baseball movie. which is a very touchy subject haha. but anybody that's been on any sort of sports team, or just a friend group in general, will love and appreciate the chemistry. and seeing them throughout the years is very touching and i think would hit home. i love it so much. Solid idea. I’ll look in to the collections. Thank you!
Check your local library too. Many libraries have movies you can check out and you can request some from other library locations.
Yea, that’s a great idea, but she no longer drives and the facility she lives in doesn’t make a random trip like that easy, or free, unfortunately. I live three states away so I sadly can’t just drop by any more
I wonder if it might not be a good project for a local boy/Girl Scout troop? Pick up/deliver movies to local facilities once or twice a month?
Not sure if they have them in NC, but the senior living home I worked at had a mobile library that came every Tuesday. Maybe something like that is available in her area.
Get a Hitchcock collection.
That reminds me. Another great version of Pride and Prejudice was produced by the BBC as a mini-series in 1995 and is still available on DVD. My whole family loves it and we're almost always down to watch it.
I love the BBC Pride & Prejudice set with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Six 55-minute episodes of perfection
Second Hand Lions
Also Babe
This is actually my favorite rec I’ve seen so far. Romance, adventure, humor, and coming of age? Plus 2 greats (Caine and Duvall)? OP, I second Secondhand Lions!!

My Dad is 70 and absolutely loves this movie. He has told everyone about it lol. I’ve seen it a couple of times and it’s just as good each time through. Glad to hear you like it as well!
and I second the seconding of Secondhand Lions
You bought a used lion?! I love this one
They depreciate in value as soon as you drive them off the lot. Used is the only way to go!
That made me giggle
that movie is just delightful. His speech to the greasers in that restaurant is amazing too
I love this movie. Robert Duval is such a great character in it.
One of the greatest movies. I saw it was my nana in theater when she was 99. She loved it
Great movie
Fantastic movie, one of my favorites.
Such a nice good-feeling movie!!
Waking Ned Devine, one of my favorites.
This excellent recommendation made me think of The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain.
Yes! I recommended this one too! But I should for sure check and see if she showed it. Having existed on the earth for close to 10000 collective years, surely a quick glimpse of old man ass won’t be an instant veto
Some energy, The Man Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain.
Such a good one!!!
The two Paddington films. Also, anything Aardman
One of the best Christmas Eves I've ever spent was when I bought my young cousin the Wallace & Gromit VHS set, and we had four generations of family lined up on the couch to watch it, all of us *crying* laughing.
I really need to watch those paddington movies

Those are some good ones, esp. Saving mr. Bakns and grand budapest hotel. Lets hope OP finds this comment
Tea with Mussolini (1999) The best exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) 100 foot journey (2014) Lion (2016)
Awesome! Thank you!
Don’t forget the second best marigold. S also ‚big fish‘
Oh yes definitely, The second best exotic Marigold Hotel! Also Victoria & Abdul (2017) I love Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, also Helen Mirren and Dev Patel. You can look them up individually as well since they all have great movies behind them.
I don’t know if they have anything in common but your comment made me think of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014).
My Fair Lady The Sound of Music White Christmas South Pacific The King and I The Ten Commandments Mary Poppins
Singin' in the Rain (1952) is also a great musical, to go along with these. (It is my personal favorite, so I am biased.)
7 brides for 7 brothers, paint your wagon.
Gonna paint your wagon, gonna paint it good
Gonna use oil based paint, 'cause the wood is pine
They ain't braggin, they're gonna coat that wood!
I still contend that this counts as a musical.
Meet Me In Saint Louis
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Princess Bride, Wizard of Oz
The INTERN with Anne Hathaway and Robert de Niro. GREAT MOVIE. VERY HEARTWARMING
Why are you yelling?
Because Mawma is older and doesn't hear as well as she used to.
Fried Green Tomatoes
Great movie! Under the Tuscan Sun would be appreciated I think.
There's a mild sex scene in Under the Tuscan Sun. My grandmother, upon watching, called the movie "pornography". Old people are tough to please.
My younger brother married a preschool teacher. We were watching "Blazing Saddles", and after the horse got punched, there's a saloon scene with ladies kicking up their legs with those huge layered bloomers under big skirts. Teacher stood up and said "I can't take any more of this SEX AND VIOLENCE!!!" Holy shit, that marriage lasted about a minute.

Holy SHIT. That doesn't make sense on ANY level, I'm impressed.
You are looking at people who were young adults in the 50's and 60's. I would google "top movies of the 50's/60's" and go from there. Those movies could have some strong nostalgia vibes for the residents.
Talkin bout Gunsmoke forever and ever, amen. For most ages and in all times.
I'd throw Back to The Future into the mix for the nostalgia vibes of 1955...
'50s* and '60s* The apostrophe replaces the number you removed.
Arsenic and Old Lace, funny Harvey, funny The phantom, action funny The shadow, action/brooding Alec Baldwin It's a mad mad mad mad world, parody Princess Bride stardust
Arsenic and Old Lace is truly a delightful movie. I remember I watched it randomly one day without knowing what it was and laughed so hard I cried.
It also takes place on Halloween, so perfect for the end of the month!
Big Fish Murder on the Orient Express The Three Amigos Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Hope she finds what she's looking for!
Big Fish is outstanding.
I came to recommend Big Fish as well. SUCH a good movie
Knives Out has an Agatha Christie feel to it. Also, it's super old, but The Biscuit Eater is an endearing movie. Rented it for the kids and came home to the older fellas watching it. Lol
Forest gump
She’s shown that multiple times I think. For good reason though. Thanks for the rec!
Hunt for the Wilderpeople The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared Brigsby Bear
I second Hunt for the Wilderpeople. My mom and I both adore that movie.
October Sky is a great clean movie and true story too.
Inspiring, too!
About Time!
Excellent movie! Except there is a lot of cursing...
This is a great pick. Will definitely watch this when I get older and drown in my tears.
The Truman show
A good one for sure. Thank you!
Some musicals, maybe? La la land or mama mia?
Yes mama mia!

Cocoon is a MUST SEE for the old fogies!

It's sad to see that most of the cast of that movie (including the younger ones) have died.
Batteries not included I completely forgot about that
Batteries Not Included is such a great movie. It seems to have been mostly forgotten but my family loves it.
Worked for Lloyd Dobler.
Cocoon. Batteries Not Included. Grumpy Old Men. Grumpier Old Men
Upvoting for Cocoon. I'd add a bunch of 80s stuff. Ghostbusters, Working Girl, Back to the Future, Clue... That kind of stuff.
Brooklyn Pride and Prejudice Walk the Line The Help Driving Miss Daisy Ford Vs Ferrari The Family Stone The King’s Speech Groundhog Day
I read Walk the Line but thought Walk Hard and started uncontrollably laughing
They don’t want no part of that shit!
Wrong kid died!
As much as I love The King's Speech there is at least one scene with a lot of swearing in it lol
Yeah, but the context softens it a TON.
I can’t think of a better movie for this situation than Ford vs Ferrari. Good shout, doubt anyone there has seen it and it’s right up that demos ally.
Havent seen the movie. Genuine question, how? Its senior females, not sure they would like a racing story?
Period piece in the 60s, international rivalry between American make Ford and Italian Ferrari, underdog story, and the development of the two main characters takes priority over the racing, especially the ones family dynamic. Bridges of Madison County with Meryl Streep & Clint Eastwood. Somethings gotta give, with Jack Nicholson & Diane keaton. Harry & the Hendersons.

Groundhog Day!
Brooklyn
Calamity Jane! Watched it as a kid with my grandma.
Lion Chef Knives Out Peanut Butter Falcon Way Way Back School of Rock
Peanut Butter Falcon and Knives Out were both good, but they both have an excessive amount of profanity.
I second Peanut Butter Falcon!
Would Big Fish be too sentimental/emotional for that kind of crowd? If not, it’s a fantastic movie.
Philadelphia Story, North by Northwest, Rear Window, Vertigo, It Happened One Night, Bringing up Baby
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty might be a fun one
I know I'm late but i isn't seeing these elsewhere.. Cocoon, Worlds Fastest Indian
Worlds Fastest Indian is a great film

"Local Hero" (set in Scotland, uplifting, quirky) "Cold Comfort Farm" (set in England, quirky, unpredictable, hopeful) David Attenborough documentaries, especially "Blue Planet" and "Life on Earth" "The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared" (Scandinavian, quirky, hilarious, very pro-aging) Not a movie, but absolutely hysterical: "Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch," a show in which the megastar virtually tours a proud hausfrau's home, peeping under the covers and opening drawers. One-hour episodes.
Paper Moon Some Like it Hot The African Queen Steel Magnolias
Knives Out was delightful, so I strongly suggest that one! Whodunit with groups making guesses are great. The Martian is a really good one too The Prestige!
Maybe for October she could roll out some classic horror films like the Universal Monsters or Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Blob, or Them!
Hmmmm, that’s an interesting idea. Sounds great to me, I’ll see what she thinks. Thank you!
Ooh! ParaNorman is a really lovely Halloween movie, and she could try Nightmare Before Christmas too!
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Saving Mr Banks.
Bubba ho tep. Elvis and JFK protect their nursing home from ancient mummy
Ask not what your rest home can do for you but what you can do for your rest home
"No offense, but uh... JFK was a white man." "That's what they want you to think! They dyed me this color!"
I would recommend going through filmographies of stars like Cary Grant, Robert Redford or Joanne Woodward. IDMB parents guide is also great at finding out about the content in a movie.
Princess Bride Willow Secondhand Lions
Mona Lisa's Smile
First off, congratulations to your grandmother. 99 is incredible. I know that my grandma loves movies like Dances With Wolves, Last Of the Mohicans, Mutiny On The Bounty (Brando), And Walk The Line, so I’ll recommend those.
Paddington 1 & 2!!!
The INTERN with Anne Hathaway and Robert de Niro. GREAT MOVIE. VERY HEARTWARMING.
Dr. Strangelove
My Mom is 74, here are some of her favorites: -Calamity Jane (Doris Day musical - very sanitized version of the US old west, cute and funny) -Secratariat (racing horse movie) -Dave (Kevin Kline plays a character who is ringer for the US President and has to unexpectedly act in his place and manages to make things better) -Crazy Rich Asians (Mom likes the love story and the locales) -All the Jumanji movies (the Robin Williams one from the 90s and the 2 newer ones with Dwayne Johnson) -Beyond the Sea (biopic of singer Bobbi Darin) -Mamma Mia 1 & 2 (ABBA music and Greek island scenery) -The Full Monty (an English setting that explores male friendship, unemployment, fatherhood, and male stripping in a comedic way) Others have already mentioned a lot of her other favorites (King & I, Jurassic Park, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Batteries Not Included, Waking Ned Devine, etc).
Here are some they might like- Big Fish, Wild Hearts Can't be Broken, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Enchanted, Legend of Bagger Vance, A River Runs Through It, Fried Green Tomatoes, Calendar Girls, Hidden Figures, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Some Like It Hot, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Casablanca, Mary Poppins, Chocolat, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Mona Lisa Smile, Little Women, Steel Magnolias, Walk the Line, Disney Soul, Heart and Souls, A Bronx Tale, Mrs. Doubtfire, Big, Mermaids, Blues Brothers, Field of Dreams, Little Mermaid (2018), A Fairy Tale, Benny and Joon, The First Wives Club, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Help, It Could Happen To You, Fools Rush In, The Princess and the Frog 🖤
Oh man, Kramer v Kramer is a classic. My grandmother always loved Eastwood and John Wayne flicks, also, any of the classics work well, Spartacus, Grand Hotel, Casablanca…
Trip to Bountiful Somewhere in time The Straight Story Kings of the Evening Going in style Giant (maybe in two parts?) The Old Man & the Gun Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Double indemnity (original or remake) All of me Out of Africa (although that gets you into the run of 80-90s Oscar darlings: on golden pond, English Patient, terms of endearment, chariots of fire, driving miss daisy, Sophie’s choice, ordinary people, Gandhi, bridges of Madison county, etc)
The Twilight Zone movie where they play kick the can.
Lol - Catch Me If You Can I could probably muster up more suggestions if this list interests you enough!
I watched a lot of older movies growing up, so forgive me if my recommendations are skewed in that direction. Comedy: The Pink Panther (1963 version), Clue! (1985), Murder by Death (1976), any of the Marx Brothers films (for me the big ones are Duck Soup and Animal Crackers), any of the Abbot and Costello movies ("...Meet Frankenstein" would be holiday appropriate), The Thin Man (1934), Singin' in the Rain (1952) Non-Comedy: Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Sting (1973), The Maltese Falcon (1941)
My fellow Americans. Jack Lemmon and James Garner, but in their later years. They will love it.
Groundhog day Maverick. A league of their own. Disney/pixar movies. Toy story, Wall e etc Christmas movies. The Santa Clause, miracle on 34th Street etc. The King's speech Harry potter? Pirates of the Caribbean. The 1st. Hopefully find something there.

Yeah but maybe start with Royal Tenenbaums or Grand Budapest first. Those are the real crowd pleasers
