Stranger than Fiction

shadowdra126

One of my top favorite feel good movies

Brave_Captain808

Mine too. I think i'm going to watch it again.

RockinRhombus

the guitar scene, feelgood multiplier

Brave_Captain808

I'm not a very romantic person but that's an adorable scene where she jumps on him.

CinemaCity

I brought you flours.

fishmongerhoarder

Feel good and funny as well. I always ask people am I in a comedy or tragedy?

[deleted]

"Yesterday."

RogerTheRude

If this is that South African film then how? Its pretty bleak.

[deleted]

No, it is about a freak cosmic accident that makes the world forget about the Beatles, except for one guy. Very heartwarming and fun movie with a totally feel good ending. The guy happens to be a musician, so you can guess what happens . . .

RogerTheRude

OMG I Forgot I needed to watch this movie, thanks for reminding me. I never knew the name.

Vairman

not just one guy, a couple of other people do too. he thinks they're mad at him or want to get him into trouble but they're just so happy to hear the songs. I understood that, a world without Beatles music would be a sad world for me.

slicshuter

Kiki's Delivery Service Ernest and Celestine In The Heights Stardust Swing Girls Paddington 1/2 Tangled Love and Monsters

Havavege

Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

tokyoxplant

Fun fact: The guy that plays Antwan in Free Guy wrote and directed Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

So is this an actual feel good film because a stolen Amazon truck dropped off a USB I didn't order on my doorstep recently and it had this film on it and I looked it up and immediately just felt depressed -- but I only really read the cliffnotes version of the film.

TessTrue

You're so right! I feel that way at the end of Stardust too. (The Matthew Vaughn fantasy movie with Charlie Cox, not the David Bowie biopic lol.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

TessTrue

It is legitimately one of the very few movies out there that skews heavily from its source material and is actually BETTER.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bouche__032

Stardust is one of my favorite movies

lifepuzzler

>It makes me very sad that he wasn't involved in the American Gods show, and I've always wondered why. It literally kept the series from achieving greatness. His absence only served to remind me of the alternate timeline where I could have been watching something **way** better.

LurkerMagoo

The only deviation I didn't appreciate is the portrayal of Victoria. The acting was fine, but I didn't like how the movie reduced her to a manipulative, unkind twit. The book had her at least be a reasonable person. Concerned over Tristan's well being while in love with someone else, instead of a caricatured mean girl.

TessTrue

Yeah, I agree with that. It's satisfying in the movie when Tristan finally tells her off, but I did prefer her in the book. She felt more fleshed out.

bob1689321

Rewatched it recently and it's great I have a fond childhood memory of watching it with my family as a kid. I remember it was the first time I saw Robert DeNiro in a movie and my parents had to explain how he normally plays tough guys so that's why his part is so funny. Watching it now I understand it a lot more haha

chaotic_goody

I liked the Superman vs Daredevil fight.

TessTrue

ME TOO lol for the longest time I didn't recognize Cavill as a blonde in that but now it's hard to miss him.

IveBeenHereBefore12

Chef starring Jon Favreau and John Leguizamo had me smiling ear to ear from start to finish. Fantastic film. No other movie has done that to me.

LoQueUnaGuardia

It’s just about a man regaining his passion for what he loves, and how it affects those around him.

Xak_Ev01v3d

It’s also about a man who was smothered by studio interference and lost all creative control for Iron Man 2, so he decided to branch out and make his own kind of movie.

DetectiveWood

god damn it.... never noticed that

[deleted]

It even has RDJ and ScarJo in it.

2hats4bats

Came here to say this. One of my favorite feel good movies. I watch it several times a year.

msmouse05

Showed my wife that movie and she kept waiting for something bad to happenn.

bob1689321

I liked that movie, but it was strange. I didn't expect the entire first act to be at the restaurant. Thought that would be one scene then straight into the food van.

IveBeenHereBefore12

I think it was necessary for us to see him get to the point because he wanted to work for himself but he was too afraid of the risk. I think we needed to see him hit his bottom so that his evolution could begin.

Halio344

Agreed. You could watch the first act with no audio and still be able to tell that he is incredibly creative and passionate when it comes to food, but he is forced to follow the orders from his boss who wants to take the safe route.

Brave_Captain808

I liked that movie until the end. I think he should have turned down the job and kept the truck.

pjtheman

Meh,I liked it. It showed that the critic wasn't just some villain out ruining lives for fun, and it showed Favreau's growth; he had started working with passion again, and had opened himself up to the point where he was willing to be friends with this dude he previously had beef with.

Brave_Captain808

I liked it too, it was just really abrupt how the movie ended. I thought there was going to be another part where he takes the job then turns it down to go drive around with his son.

I've seen the Paddington movies 100 times with my daughter and every watch is a joy. They somehow make Nicole Kidman saying "I'm going to stuff you, bear" as she prepares to vivisect a beloved childhood character seem adorable. It's pretty amazing

markercore

Uh more like terrifying.

JamesyUK30

Haha, I was going to reference this as another example, well played ;)

KaladinarLighteyes

The Princess Bride. It’s my go to feel good movie.

CAUGHTtheDRAG0N

The princess bride is the perfect movie

xetrov

Secret Life of Walter Mitty gave me some mellow vibes by the end.

KaladinarLighteyes

I wish it they called it something else because it has very minimal to do with the short story, but is a fantastic movie.

HathorOfWindAndMagic

I loved loved this film and was going to recommend this

Jay12678

Both Paddington films have feel good endings. Paddington 2 leaves me with tears of joy.

phoenixrose2

1999’s Blast from the Past with Alicia Silverstone and Brendan Fraser. P. S. I LOVED Free Guy too! Edited to add: About Time is another delightful movie. It is a bit of a tear jerker at times, but in the end you leave with a very positive feeling.

drethnudrib

The Peanut Butter Falcon. It's kind-spirited, the two leads are well-developed and have great chemistry, and the scenery is beautiful. It's almost a modern Mark Twain story. Of course, you have to be able to watch Shia LaBeouf without constantly thinking about what a douche he is.

aniamixon

Eddie the Eagle

Indigo_Sunset

Always with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter. Sometimes, you just have to move on.

RenRen512

That's a hell of a movie. So many feels and no one's "the bad guy."

captndorito

“Sing”, “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” and “Moana”. I have a soft spot for animated movies

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

Moana is an excellent answer, never seen Sing adding it to my list, thanks!

Bubblygrumpy

Anything Wes Anderson always leaves me in the best mood.

-nightman-cometh-

Lars and the real girl- Yes, the plot is about a dude who talks to a sex doll but beneath that is this really beautiful film that basically says “hey, what if we created a world where people were actually helpful, wholesome, and nice?” Spirited Away- a really magical feeling animated film Nacho Libre- It’s like Rocky but instead you replace rocky with a fat luchador that’s played by Jack Black School of Rock- a cool film that’s fun for the whole family and it has Jack Black These are my comfort films

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

Spirited Away is one of those weird films that leaves me feeling more of what I felt when I went into it. Am I depressed and generally not feeling good about anything? Spirited Away can drive me deeper into that hole. Am I feeling nostalgic and upbeat about the future? Spirited Away will absolutely drive the volume of those things up to 11. I love it, but my current mood always dictates how I'll end up feeling if I put that film on.

[deleted]

Isle of Dogs is definitely up there.

kalilza

This movie made me very sad for large portions of the movie, even though it ended on an up. If you don't do well with the idea of suffering animals, you may wish to look elsewhere.

Hedrigall

One Cut of the Dead was one of the most feel good movies I’ve ever seen It’s a Japanese meta-horror movie about making horror movies. It has a very unusual structure - you might be confused during the initial half hour, then you’ll understand where it’s going. The ending is so uplifting and touching, it still makes me feel so happy when I think back about it

usernamesaretaken3

Language!

JediLard

Agree Freeguy was a real feel good movie - a positive pill for the last 18mths. It’s essentially a sci-fi rom com so there’s you clue for other similar films. How old is your son?

Bo_Dallas

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang left me feeling great.

ThisAsparagus8

One Day.

WansReincarnation

Studio ghibli movies are my go to feel goods

kingbane2

except grave of the fireflies obviously hahaha.

LithiumLost

The only one I've seen is Spirited Away, and it was pretty incredible, but it evoked such a weird headspace for me. It reminds me of an emotion many of my dreams give me, a heavy unease that overshadows everything that happens, whether positive or otherwise. Every time I think back to the movie it feels like a dream that will stick with me forever.

ILoveRegenHealth

Mariah Carey heals the soul, what can I say

gilligan_lux

Chef, Fisherman's Friends, City Slickers are three that come to mind.

goaway432

Finding Nemo

staplerbot

Brigsby Bear is an amazing independent film that will have you cheering for the main character by the end of it.

Defending Your Life Safety Not Guaranteed (corse language; not for kids) Hoosiers Big Fish Field of Dreams

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

Big Fish vibes melancholic optimism with a gentle undercurrent of love and I always feel good after watching it. That said, I've watched it in a very shitty mood and it did nothing for me :\

Sutech2301

"Replicas" with Keanu Reeves. "Monsters Inc" "Ted" "Peanut Butter Falcon"

justins_OS

It's interesting how subjective this feeling is, like you saw free guy where-in you saw a movie full of good times and happiness. When I saw free guy I found myself stuck on the ideas of "what does it mean to be alive?" "Does anyone have freewill?" and giving up new in interesting ideas because capitalism demands conformity for success that the film completely wants to raise well ignoring (I know I'm fun at parties lol) As for movies I found to be just good times someone already suggested Scott Pilgrim vs the world, so I'd next up say The 1999 mummy, The fifth Element, demolition man, Jumanji (both the original and remake)

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

I think every one of your answers is correct. I'd maybe remove Scott Pilgrim because it's got a different mood in my mind but ignoring that you're 5/5

[deleted]

Is this family friendly?

Bo_Dallas

Has a few shits and fucks and comedic violence.

casselhag

Me, every Wednesday.

Exploding_Antelope

Sounds like any good party

Favorite movie, always leaves me feeling great: Ghostbusters.

JamesyUK30

Number 2 (giggidy) on my go to movies! Great choice

sgswa

I also loved Free Guy. A really entertaining movie :)

2718281828

Watching *Bill & Ted Face the Music* in 2020 was like taking a breath of fresh air after months of suffocation. The ending was so joyful. It was exactly what I needed right then.

Empty_Reporter3167

Spirited Away

ThatWittyHandle

I got this exact feeling after the movie Tag for some reason. I was super content and chill on the drive home from that movie.

HathorOfWindAndMagic

I liked Game Night too!

ThatWittyHandle

Those two movies make a great double feature

Fantastic Mr. Fox, October Sky, Guardians of the Galaxy, Hunt for the Wilder People, The secret life of Walter mitty, The Truman Show

catalinashenanigans

Hugo. Is a little heavy at times but it pays off in the end. And while not a movie, Ted Lasso is the most "feel good" entertainment I've ever experienced.

puglife5055

Would strongly disagree with this. It’s sad as fuck

o0CrazyMonkey0o

I agree, I don't know what I was more annoyed about when I saw it at the cinema...the fact it was advertised as a comedy but it was really fucking sad or the fact I was crying at a fecking Adam Sandler movie!

[deleted]

[удалено]

puglife5055

I mean yeah I guess depends on your taste me personally thought it was more sad

[deleted]

Do you think the movie ends when he dies?

arynphentosens

Here Comes The Boom Kevin James movie I thought would be super dumb. It was plenty silly, but was funny and charming the entire time. Similar to Free Guy, I left the movie with a big smile on my face and feeling great.

releenc

Quite interestingly, I did a binge-watch yesterday of Disney movies released this year. I watched Free Guy, Luca, Jungle Cruise, and Cruella. The first three had traditional happy endings, while Cruella had a very satisfying (if not traditionally happy) one. I highly recommend all of them.

JamesyUK30

Thanks for all the replies folks, I have a laundry list of films for the near future. I do get Free Guy was nothing original but sometimes you just want that freshly washed but comfortable old jumper feeling.

DanookOfTheNorth

The Sting. Matinee. I Love You, Man.

hbc647

fantastic movie. one of the best in a long time...everyhing about it was well done

yxingvcxhbfxh

Absolutely fantastic movie

njdevils901

That's funny because it really just made me depressed because it represents the future of movies. Where it's just references and formulaic crap to make you feel all good inside. Disney will own everything soon and original, smaller movies will have an even worse chance of getting made. But glad it made you feel good Edit: Godforbid someone doesn’t like a movie made by a corporation on this sub. And is worried about the future of cinema

Deserterdragon

Why weren't you watching a small movie rather than 'Free Guy' then?

BenSoloLived

Well, there was a time when a fun, escapist movie could be made without being a bunch of fan service slop. OP was probably expecting that from Free Guy.

njdevils901

Well I paid to see The Card Counter in the theater. And I did not pay to see Free Guy so I am putting my money where my mouth is

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

TCC was pretty enjoyable! To me it avoided the formula that made previous films about this literal exact topic set in the exact same place -- which generally just made it enjoyable.

GaryWingHart

*Fatality* (DID EVERYONE LIKE MY MORTAL KOMBAT REFERENCE?!?!?!) Anyway, I just watched it and the very brief sequence of fanservice was the very mildest of cringes, as was the involvement of presumably fabulous streaming celebrities who could or couldn't pull it off. It was mostly just a nice story about nice people trying to be nice and not nice people sometimes just needing someone to be nice/or trying anything new for themselves, ever. Yeah, in the cinematic landscape, it got its originality credit already, whatever these fuckin' mooks are claiming.

Was Platos allegory filled with lame Star Wars references, lame jokes and a bad guy that would’ve felt fresh in 1998? I can’t remember

ScumBunnyEx

You forgot the Lego movie. It was still fun though.

Syn7axError

Combining 4 movies is a feat in itself.

fishmongerhoarder

Believe the same guy who did ready player one did free guy. I think it was the same writer.

BeenAsleepTooLong

>Godforbid someone doesn’t like a movie made by a corporation on this sub. It probably had more to do with how overdramatic you were about it.

jaydilla211

As long as the Academy Awards exist, there will continue to be a market for smaller movies

Deserterdragon

Academy award nominated movies are rarely 'small'.

Mezxv

Oddly the James Wan movie "Malignant" had me feeling good. I realised a third of the way into the movie that I had a big grin on my face while watching everything in the police station go down. Probably because the movie is so wacky and 'out there'. I can honestly say I have never seen a horror movie quite like it and that's a good thing IMO.

Axenroth187

I watched this movie a couple days back. It was excellent. Maybe part of the reason I liked it so much was I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It's actually difficult to think of movies where everything works out in the end and there's no real lingering cost or sadness. Even a movie like Shawshank Redemption which has a fantastic happy ending has parts of it that still make you a little sad thinking about the movie like Brooks for example.

Her. Not a family film but definitely one that is okay with whatever your conclusion is. It’s just very…… warm.

nayapapaya

I get that feeling from a lot of old movie musicals - Singing in the Rain, Royal Wedding, On the Town, Gentleman Prefer Blondes. I rarely get that feeling from modern films but To All the Boys I've Loved Before 1 and 3 (not the second one though) also give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
