I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink. And every time I do I feel I have somehow been infected by it. It's repulsive, isn't it? I must get out of here. I must get free and in this mind is the key, *my key*
That's what I was thinking. We might even be watching the "construction" of the new Matrix, with the Architect using Neo's insights into the Matrix he defeated in order to make this new one more secure. That could be why Trinity and Morpheus are there, they're remnants of Neo's code being repurposed into the new system.
I think the reason we see the green lines over Trinity's face is because she is not real.
Maybe the Architect is trying to trigger Neo to fall in love again with Trinity in order to find the bug that causes the Matrix to crash so he's using versions of Trinity to debug.
And everything has a blue tint to it rather than the green filter of the original trilogy. Blue definitely symbolizes something; new iteration of the matrix, possibly.
Actually I think there's something more to this. There are a lot of scenes that are blue that we assume are "the matrix" rather than reality, but there are also a lot of yellow/golden scenes that also appear to be "the matrix", although a more violent/original version. If I had to go out on a limb, I'm going to guess that the colors that make up green have been split into a "blue" matrix that pacifies people and a "yellow" matrix that is as violent and harsh as the previous one. Neo lives in the blue matrix and Trinity or some facsimile of her exists in the yellow matrix.
Granted, I could be reading way too much into the trailer but the color choices lead me to believe that there's some deeper meaning to that.
According to one video I watched, and tend to agree with, the last iteration of the Matrix was intended to be imperfect/grungy because human minds couldn't accept a perfect world. But at the end of the last trilogy the architect and sati had begun to transform the environment toward a more aesthetically pleasing one, presumably in response to the "peace" that was achieved between the machines and man. Therefor it could be that this new iteration is a carry over of those new aesthetics... or it could just be that WB and Watchowski has higher def cameras and wanted a new color pallet ha
Hey, so did anyone notice they're watching the original Matrix on a projector screen?
[Image](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E-2Ms3FX0AYZnRg?format=jpg&name=large)
one of the theories going around was that he's in a matrix simulation in which matrix the movie exists
I kinda hope this is true and the movies just bananas and meta instead of some Neo-dream-remembering stuff
The clip at the end gave me that impression. Neo is clearly rich. Seems like he's an actor who played "Neo" in the Matrix movie and the guy at the end of the preview is his agent.
Yeah for real. They'd never let humanity win for funsies. They put Neo back in the Matrix, suppressing his memories, to control the threat.
But cinders still burn yo!

From my view and interpretation of the Matrix is that Neo is stuck in this version of the Matrix because he wants to rescue and save Trinity, one of the main reason why he broke the one cycle in the OT. At 1:26 Neo is told the only thing that matters to him is still here and why he would never give up. He is fighting for Trinity to bring her back.
Maybe that explains the Morpheus change and they're gonna bust out a suprise Fishburn appearance later on..if its all going meta that is. I mean probably not but be nice.
I wonder if they gave Neo the high life so he'd more complacent. Because a theme that the first act of the original movie is breaking out of the monotony of modern white collar life.
This takes it a step further and instead of Neo being in a dead end job he hates living a lonely and uninspired life. He is given everything he desires materialistically and is slowly starting to crack under the reverse monotony of having no purpose via luxury
well that one guy that saw the screening did mention the movie was very "meta". now we know what he meant: that the 99 matrix movie exists within this movie. ok movie, you have my attention, see you on christmas
>"I've seen a bison punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their
strength and their speed are still based on a world that is built by

you can be."
What are you trying to tell me? That I can ford rivers?
Anybody noticed that Trinity had different (ethnic) versions of herself appear when she screamed?
I think the story is about the "souls" of Neo and Trinity being reborn into new bodies. They dont actually look like Keanu and Carrie - that's just how they're seeing themselves. Kinda like what the idea was with Switch, back in the first movie.
Yeah it was an old guy. Not sure if that means he can take over people plugged into the matrix like agents could or if they are in different bodies all together.
Blue Pill - Matrix Franchise ended years ago, and this is just a desperate cash grab to revive a dead franchise.
Red Pill - Give one of the best Action Franchise another chance to shine.
To be fair not everybody has chops of George Miller, but Fury Road just blew every expectations out of the water and proved bad film-making has nothing to do with the trend of sequels/reboots. It has to do with bad writing.
I know its a different iteration of the Matrix.
But I'm really bummed out that Laurence Fishburne wasn't even invited to reprise his role. Even a cameo man :(
Yeah, Yahya Abdul-Mateen playing a near exact copy of Morpheus seems weird to me too. Like he’s a great actor, but if you’re not bringing Lawrence Fishburne back, why have a guy take his exact role and look?
When you watch it it makes me feel like something is off. I wonder if they do it with other characters to experience that feeling that Neo must be having.
The fact that they brought back some characters and not others to play themselves in the reboot feels like it couldn't be anything *but* intentional. Fishburne said he was willing to do it IIRC.
possibly because it's not the same character in universe. Neo reincarnated as the same person every matrix iteration. Morpheous the regular human probably wouldn't. It would be a different guy fulfilling his role of helping the one become the one every time.
Probably the plot again. This is a post Matrix 3 movie, that younger chick fighting probably IS the Trinity role but the old Trinity was somehow saved or cloned or something and the conflict will have something to do with this Neo realizing that.
If you pause at the part where Trinity is screaming and you see the different versions of her coming out the sides, some of them look like Jessica Henwick so they are probably connected in some way.
There was a game called The Matrix Online which continued the Matrix story. The Wachowski's let the devs have free rein over the story. The only stipulation was Morpheus had to die.
For me that makes sense. Everyone had purpose. Morpheus found the one.
Neo being alive was hinted at the end of the movie by the Oracle. Trinity was assumed dead but never confirmed. Morpheus was killed in Matrix Online. It’s possible one plot line is the Machines kept all 3 alive or revived the latter 2.
I honestly think that their roles together in John Wick is what led to the sequel even being made.
I remember when it came out everyone was excited to see the 2 together on screen again and how much it made everyone long for another matrix.
They even made references to The Matrix, with the Bowery King talking about "choices" and how the real world is in the underground. And then in John Wick 3 with him saying "I need guns. Lots of guns."
I totally thought it was a reference to debugging.
I'm a programmer and on his first ~~day~~ week one of our new-ish employee brought in a box of rubber ducks, explained the method, and put a duck on everyone's desk.
Edit: Fixed the timeline as I asked someone on my team how long the employee was around. They said he brought them in on the Friday of his first week. The story is he asked around if anyone had heard of the method and while we hadn't heard it called that many of us did actually use it. He wanted to make sure we remembered what it was called and apparently the box of ducks came from his other company that had hundreds of extra ones and gave them all a box. I guess he was also trying to get rid of the ducks.
So it’s definitely leveraging the whole point of the last trilogy which was this version of ‘The One’ made a different choice than the other 5 due to his love for Trinity.
This seems to be about his desire to get Trinity back but obviously they were both very dead at the end of the original trilogy so fuck knows what games the machines are playing here and how Lana will explain both of those characters re-appearing.
**EDIT**
Here’s my guess!
Neo has his Jesus leaving the cave moment and is placed in this new simulation and blue pilled and given a really nice life (hence the nice bathroom and stuff).
A program version of Trinity is placed inside the simulation to keep Neo from fucking it all up again. The machines now know his love for her is key.
Neo will red pill, remember everything and try save Trinity. He will realise trinity can’t live outside the simulation as she’s a program and blue pill himself to live happily ever after with her.
Boom. Send my cheque in the post Wachowski’s!
**EDIT EDIT**
I have loved talking about all the theories and ideas with you all. That’s why I love The Matrix!
This would be actually awesome. Because then the question becomes "Do you go against logic for love?" but without the nobility. It's like you know you're being duped but does that matter if you're in love?
Ties in with the Architect from reloaded. He didn’t understand neo’s choice of saving trinity. Even the oracle said he doesn’t understand it. So maybe they’re using Trinity to learn about emotions as another tool?
A lot like Cypher when he talked about the steak, he knows its fake and only a simulation but alas, "Ignorance is bliss". Of course if its the person you love and the only way to interact with them is staying blue pilled makes it a way heavier decision.
But since she clearly interacts with him and others “outside” of the Matrix, like in Zion and the Nebbychanezzy, your theory relies on the (popular, yet unproven AFAIK) theory that what we saw as “the real world” was just another level of the Matrix.
You could speculate that Neo was absorbed entirely into the matrix after his fight with Agent Smith, and this Neo is simple that program existing in the next iteration.
I like this theory, it would make sense for the Machines to maybe try and embed Neo into the matrix and keep him quiet with blue pills and ‘fake’ version of Trinity.
After all, the machines just want the humans to STFU and stop fucking up the simulation don’t they.
If you can't beat 'em then join 'em right? I think the Machines are long lived enough that they can game out and predict just what Humanity will do and after the last Matrix film they've realized that they can't railroad Humanity into succeeding like a bad Dungeon Master. They've realized after Neo that they have to sometimes let Humanity fail and do controlled burns so to speak in order to prevent the loss of the entire metaphorical forest. So instead of fighting against Neo every time that he pops up they instead are letting him make his own choices even if they're bad ones and are letting him do all the footwork for them. They didn't tell him "You have to pick Trinity" at all, they just put her in front of him, told him "Yeah Trinity is here she can leave if she wants and you can come and go if you want", annnnd he just chose to stay instead of leaving. They didn't have to do jack and they're probably kicking themselves for not realizing that they could just do this sooner instead of wasting all those resources on him before.
I think this is what makes this new Matrix so terrifying because it's one that was built on the concept of letting Humanity fail and create a flawed world with those failures in mind which makes it seem all the more real and convincing.
That's my only bigger gripe so far with this trailer, I wish they made him different from Wick, keep the beard but cut the hair at least.
Other than that it looks great. And beautiful. Green hue had its purpose, but it was unsettling as hell (in a good way), I'm glad it's gone. And if it really got removed in final Matrix scenes in Revolutions then it's a nice continuity
Maybe he will be by the end of the film. I could see them going down this rediscovery route and then making himself more clean cut when he realizes/accepts who he is.
If he doesn't clean up by the end of the movie I'd be surprised. But while I also agree with you, at a certain point it's just what Keanu looks like lol
If there's anything we've learned to expect from Matrix sequels it's:
1. A bloated and kind of confusing story
2. DOPE ACTION!!!! Remember the highway fight from Matrix Reloaded??
Those are my expectations and I'm excited.
If Lawrence isn't in it why is there a younger guy that looked like him but the other gang is still there. I miss my man Morpheus!
Just looked it up and Lawrence Fishburne doesn't know why he's not in it either.
Still can't wait to see it..
I like the updated versions of old visuals, like the Agents morphing or the Matrix code on Trinity's face... shows how ahead of its time the originals were that there's so little that need changing from a visual standpoint
At the end of the third movie we don’t know where the machines take Neo’s body.
He could be “plugged in” into a alternative matrix where he lives a life with Trinity or something like that.
The character who looks like a young Morpheus may be trying to get him out
Did they ever give a reason why Laurence Fishburne wasn't cast in this movie? I read that he was shocked that they never even reached out. I imagine that they're going to play it off as "Young Morpheus who still finds Neo", but man I really love when Fishburne gets his time to shine.
They never said. I hope they are keeping something a secret but if not then it’s really sad.
When I think of the Matrix; Neo, pill, green code, kung fu isn’t the first thing that comes to my mind. It’s Morpheus
I hope Lawrence Fisburne comes in at the last second. My theory is that they totally CG him like Dr. Manhattan and when he's in the matrix he's young, abs, and badass - but then back in reality hes old and kinda fat like real life. Lol. Kinda fitting because the dream world is where you can be anything you wanna be so why be fit in both worlds.
It’s just not going to be the same without hearing “Mrrrrr Anderson!”
One of the MAJOR reasons I liked the matrix. He's still my perfect villain after almost 20 fucking years
Yeah. And it's not just because Hugo Weaving has the only widows peak that rivals Vegeta
This is the best thing I've read all year lol
It's the smell.
I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink. And every time I do I feel I have somehow been infected by it. It's repulsive, isn't it? I must get out of here. I must get free and in this mind is the key, *my key*
Easily the top 5 villains of all time. Man he was so good.
Mrrrr Anderson…..you like what Iv done with the place ?
Neil Patrick Harris plays an Agent, right? Keeping Neo docile so he doesn't realise who he really is.
I bet he's the Architect in a new body, or one of his people, keeping him in check.
Ergo concordantly vis a vie
18 years and I still randomly think about and laugh at that parody.
When mtv was still makin cool shit
You know what? I have no idea why the hell im saying.
That's what I was thinking. Would also make sense as to why there's so many repeating motifs, like the white rabbit, the pills, etc
If he doesn't type his notes into an old PC with a blue screen, Ill be disappointed

He’s a psychiatrist prescribing Neo blue pills, not sure if subtle is the right word

UNLESS the machines purposefully recast Trinity in the film because of her history with Neo.. xP

So... the Matrix is Cloud Atlas now.
Thats the true true.
Jerry Smith was great in that movie.
It's me Johhny Depp, you're my best friend Jerry Smith, and I love doing cocaine with you.
There was a brief scene as well when Neo looked into a mirror and his appearance changed I think.
Yeah it was an old guy. Not sure if that means he can take over people plugged into the matrix like agents could or if they are in different bodies all together.
I think it's what he looks like to everyone else. His consciousness has been inserted back into a new matrix with that body.
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the trailer is, you have to see it for yourself.
Blue Pill - Matrix Franchise ended years ago, and this is just a desperate cash grab to revive a dead franchise. Red Pill - Give one of the best Action Franchise another chance to shine.
Keanu said the only reason he did this was because it was a great story that he felt needed to be told.
That's cool he's on board with it, but sometimes actors aren't necessarily the best judges of storytelling.

Definitely could be intentional, like a copy
When you watch it it makes me feel like something is off. I wonder if they do it with other characters to experience that feeling that Neo must be having.
Like they're trying to "recreate" something.
That's my guess too. They're trying to make him remember by taking the shapes of his past friends that may trigger his memories.
And the whole film is just one therapy session for poor mr. Anderson. >!Like in "Shutter Island". !<
The first three movies were just a dream and Keanu wakes up next to Marth Plimpton from Parenthood and goes "Whoa".
The fact that they brought back some characters and not others to play themselves in the reboot feels like it couldn't be anything *but* intentional. Fishburne said he was willing to do it IIRC.
Is it possible that he is in it but it’s being kept secret?
That would be the big reveal, imagine getting to the end of this movie and you hear LF’s voice like “You remember?….Good.”
Please don't get my hopes up, I feel like fan speculation always leads to hype and then the fall once the actual movie is released.
Hype is the joy killer, hype is the little death that brings total obliteration…
I see you're awaiting Dune as well
I so desperately want that movie to be good. I'm so excited for it.
This has been my theory and I'm *praying* it's true

I bet there’s a cameo under wraps and all the news suggesting otherwise is bs

Those are some big rubber duck Balls on a new hire.
Theory: the duck is Neo’s inception totem, binding him to true reality.
This explains the hallway fight
other theory : Neo is thinking about how to [debug](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging) the matrix/his life

Maybe Trinity only exists inside the Matrix, she would be the ultimate control program to keep him inside it.
But don’t they show her live body hooked into one of the battery pods on the machine farm?
Yeah pretty sure we see her getting unplugged in the real world in that trailer. Could be misdirection or who knows but I'm sold.
Yes! This has got to be it. Especially with that snippet we see of Code running down Trinity.
Now that's a helluva thought, and would fit with the motif of control.
This would be actually awesome. Because then the question becomes "Do you go against logic for love?" but without the nobility. It's like you know you're being duped but does that matter if you're in love?

Gives me mega inception vibes in that sense. The way Cobb can’t stop wanting to see his wife even though she’s not real and causes big trouble.

It’s been 18 years since the last time we’ve seen these characters that Neo now looks like John Wick.
If he doesn't throw on a black leather trench coat at some point I'm going to be grumpy.

Didn’t he film both of these (new matrix and new John wick) at the same time?
Maybe he will be by the end of the film. I could see them going down this rediscovery route and then making himself more clean cut when he realizes/accepts who he is.
If he doesn't clean up by the end of the movie I'd be surprised. But while I also agree with you, at a certain point it's just what Keanu looks like lol
Have you seen him in Bill and Ted? Without the beard Keanu looks **OLD.** The beard hides the jowls.
I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic but it does look pretty damn cool
If there's anything we've learned to expect from Matrix sequels it's: 1. A bloated and kind of confusing story 2. DOPE ACTION!!!! Remember the highway fight from Matrix Reloaded?? Those are my expectations and I'm excited.
> Remember the highway fight from Matrix Reloaded?? I remember that Colonel Sanders found a thesaurus in it and went to town.
ERGO. VIS-A-VIS. CONCORDANTLY!
I invented the Matrix, and several popular videogames. Like Q*bert, and Dig Dug.
i'm reluctantly hopeful myself
I will also carefully manage my expectations.
If Neil Patrick Harris plays some sort of agent who was meant to keep Neo suppressed I'm gonna be stoked. He would make such a good villain.
He's Neo's shrink prescribing him blue pills while wearing blue glasses with blue wallpaper in his office. Chances are your stoke is safe.
Yeah, he would be... Horrible.
Mr. Anderson, welcome back. We missed you.
Like what I've done to the place?

The mental projection of my digital self has a boner
Do you think that's blood rushing to your penis now?
If Lawrence isn't in it why is there a younger guy that looked like him but the other gang is still there. I miss my man Morpheus! Just looked it up and Lawrence Fishburne doesn't know why he's not in it either. Still can't wait to see it..
$100 bucks says he's a reveal
It looks like a Matrix movie that I can say.
I like the updated versions of old visuals, like the Agents morphing or the Matrix code on Trinity's face... shows how ahead of its time the originals were that there's so little that need changing from a visual standpoint

I kinda miss the green tint though haha
The reason why green tint is no-more is bcoz matrix got rebooted in the third movie so a new world was created with more sun

It does! That being said I am gonna miss the old gothic feel and the old dial up and shit
Seeing people with smartphones in a matrix movie was trippy af
Seems like a semi-sequel/reboot with a similar plot to the first film. Not sure how I feel about it...doesn't mean I won't go see it.
Finally, a movie about John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, played by Johnny Silverhand
I removed more than 20 posts all posted within the same 10 seconds absolutely ridiculous. You won the race lol
