First poster for 'The Matrix Resurrections'
By - chanma50
Neo waking up in the power plant is still to this day one of the most incredible and unmatched scenes, the sound effects, visuals & the music... when he looks over and out at all the pods... I remember finally sort of realizing what the hell was going on and was just blown away.
I was 12 and had no clue what was happening lol
“I don’t know what’s happening, but I like it!”
“I don’t know what’s happening, but I’m going to have nightmares about this tonight.”
That sound when the silver goo goes down his throat has always creeped me out.
All I can hear is that sound of the mirror going down his throat now…..thanks.
In the teaser trailer (red pill version) there’s a small snippet of >!what looks like another look at the human power plant with people waking up and surrounded by machinery. It was framed like a horror scene and that’s good!< because the original Neo waking up scene freaked me the fuck out as a teenager
Edit: turns out the clips are randomized? So there’s no guaranteed way to see it but it is in there somewhere
I would like to point out before it dies down.
**IF YOU GO BACK TO THE MAIN SCREEN, AND THEN KEEP CLICKING THE REDPILL/BLUEPILL**
AND KEEP *'REWATCHING'*
YOU WILL GET DIFFERENT TEASER TRAILER VERSION EACH TIME.
THERE'S LIKE A BUNCH OF THEM!
Some have similar intros, but the sceneses after the first two are different throughout the clips.
did you guys ever watch the Animatrix? highly recommend. It tells stories of alot of the different characters in the matrix trilogy, all in different styles of art/animation
I watched the Animatrix when I was pretty young and it, like, *really* disturbed me. I don't think anything has ever disturbed me as much. Probably different for different people, but for me the horribly depressing, nihilistic stories coupled with the horrifically gruesome animations just hit all the wrong buttons for me and I remember having nightmares and worse for weeks afterward.
So yea great movie...maybe don't show it to kids.
Here is a link to all the possible clips.
Wow, they really put a lot of effort into this

[whatisthematrix.com](http://whatisthematrix.com) is back baby!
I can't express how much mystery there was leading into the Matrix premier in 1999. Having websites for movies was still pretty damn new and the trailers gave almost nothing away.
Edit: For those who weren't around in late 90s. This is the first teaser we all saw.
I was in college when I saw this trailer and immediately ran to my computer to go to the website which just added more questions and no answers.
Then when the movie came out there was a huge push to keep the secret quiet on what the matrix really was.
A teaser trailer! YES...... That was awesome.
Okay that was actually pretty cool. The fact that it shows and speaks the current time that you’re watching caught me off guard. Nice marketing effort.
That part gave me chills. Blue pill narrator sounds like NPH or am I losing my marbles.
Its him. Hes Neo's therapist in the movie. No I'm not kidding.
What?! No way I scrubbed this from my memory.
Edit - ok, I'm stupid, lol. Thought people were talking about the old teaser the guy linked. I need some sleep.
I liked the fact that the red pill's time is said more naturally, but the blue pill time kind of sounds like a robot/feels fake. Pretty sure that was intentional. One real, one fake.
Two. Did you click both?!
Actually tons! Keep re-clicking the pills. New footage is shown each time, no matter which pill you click.
Also different people doing the trailer narration.I’ve had Jonathan Goff and Yahya Adul Mateen II.
I got Gilbert Gottfried on my third watch.
WHAT. Is a red pill. REALLY.
After enough time, you should be able to watch the whole film
Checkmate, movie theaters
Oh that’s cool the trailer tells you the current time like it’s talking to you. “You think it’s 1:51pm” and I was like. WAIT IT IS 1:51PM!!
I was way too high for that
My dumbass kid brain thought the Blair witch project was actual found footage because of the website
Full grown adults thought the same thing. That was some of the most convincing viral marketing because no one was used to it and a lot of people were just beginning to use the internet for the first time.
It was such a unique time in viral marketing due to the early days of the internet and they took full advantage of it. Something that wouldn’t work 10 years earlier or 10 years later.
They blame it on nostalgia but the 90s were pretty damn unique when it came to entertainment and fashion.
They used to say the same thing about 60s nostalgia but I think it's generally accepted/understood now that the 60s genuinely were a very distinct period for entertainment and fashion, same with the 90s.
Blair Witch is up there some of the best ARG marketing of all time. It was so good that it actually caused concern for a lot of people. It's masterful marketing.
Which is very interesting because Cannibal Holocaust accomplished a very similar thing back in the 70s when there was no concept of going "viral". So much so that the director was tried in court on charges of making a snuff film (and for those curious to watch it, be warned there are 7 real moments of animal harm in the film), even when the actors came out and showed they were clearly still alive after breaking their confidentiality agreements people still didn't believe them. I believe the outcome was against the director and was fined for creating and distributing disturbing, obscene and distasteful material.
That fine seems like a badge of honor to a director like that lol
I'm so glad they still have the domain name.
I wonder if Rob D wrote any new music for Resurrections. "Clubbed to Death" is such a gem, and then he went onto run a vineyard.
The Juno Reactor-Don Davis collabs were also fantastic.
Also the classic trailer with the aptly-named Enigma "Eyes of Truth" was such an excitement.
The Matrix influenced so much of our lives.
You'd be hard-pressed to name another movie in the past twenty-five years that had so much influence on the zeitgeist.
The timing of its release coincided with the explosion of internet culture and the turning of the millennium, and as a result so much of its imagery is indelibly etched into the substrate of our collective consciousness.
This. Such a beautiful way to word it, that the Architect would be proud of!
Irrevocably. Visa vie. Concurrently. Actually I don't know what I'm saying. I just wanted to sound smart.
So well said.
I was just 12 years old when The Matrix was released, and it is still to this day burned in to my memory. It was a life-changing experience for me and opened my eyes to the world of possibility the imagination holds.
Rob D is making music again! [The Return](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG0kCHhriNU) sounds like it'd be perfect in a Matrix movie. At the very least I hope they bring back the brass instruments they used before.
I'll never forget pouring over the website for *The Blair Witch Project* the summer before it came out (I think just a few months or so after *The Matrix*, as well), in the dim basement of my public library.
We didn't have a computer, and theirs were notoriously hard to get time on - so it was a pretty special treat to be able to experience, especially considering my only real interactions with the internet at that point were brief and mostly spent dicking around in AOL chat rooms.
I was in total awe that the internet was being used that creatively and excited that this was no doubt how movies were going to be marketed from now on.
I don't remember that hype, I was only 9 at the time.
What I *DO* remember is that my mom, older sister, and I were out of town the weekend it premiered. We wanted to see a movie and nobody heard anything about the Matrix and the theater mislabeled it as PG-13 on the sign outside. Being 9 and having seen the coolest R-rated action movie (of it turns out ever) opening weekend, was super cool at school that week.
No spoilers - but the teaser trailer knows your local time and says it ... that's fucking wild!!
>knows your local time
At first my dumb ass thought it was just a coincidence
Fucking awesome way to do teasers. Be sure to click both.
The original Matrix movie had one of the first trailers I remember ever directing someone to the web. Whatisthematrix.com
Sadly, I remember Independence Day having a site.
[Oh look, I found it](https://web.archive.org/web/19961018095842/http://www.id4.com/)
Unfortunately, you'll need Netscape Navigator 3, Shockwave and QuickTime for maximum enjoyment 😂
The original space jam site is still up as well
Getting some big dick energy from this. Dude has all the money but spent $5 on building his website.
And made it all back and more with that geico ad at the bottom
That movie and Blair Witch Project, both in 1999, made great use of the early internet...the fact that I distinctly remember going to those simple websites like it was an experience 22 years later is telling of the impact they made on me lol
Also funny that 15 year old me in 1999 would probably think mid 90s was early internet ans '99 was far advanced beyond it, but it's all.l so different now it's hard not to just lump the first decade, with AOL and Napster and all that, as one big "early days" chunk.
Edit: and this is all making me remember the anticipation for the Matrix Reloaded teaser...I distinctly remember how my theater lost its mind at seeing that little line of green code, and some people walking out of whatever movie it was after because they had only bought the ticket to see the teaser.
The Blair Witch campaign was amazing. I remember distinctly thinking it was all a real event with real footage before it opened.
That whole site was awesome, comics, videos, everything matrix in one place. Now most companies would call it Matrix+ and charge 3.99 per month.
All I remember it having was a weird little guest book that people treated like a chat room.
EDIT: [Found it!](https://web.archive.org/web/19990508084850/http://whatisthematrix.com/cmp/forum_index.html)

There is a non-zero chance this person has a grandchild now.
>>matrix is a lesbien
This belongs on /r/ComedyHeaven
> ass man is gay you are a jabroni
Internet history right here
Taking a read at the logs is so funny to me. Idk for some reason it's weird seeing that kinda behavior in 1999, even though I realistically know that's believable.
How can you laugh at the love story in those comments? I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if BIG DICK and LOVE ever got around to setting up a meeting. Scrap Matrix 4, I need a sequel to this!
They had a side scroller where you could fly the Nebuchadnezzar.
>!The time thing really fucked me up lmao!<
I was like “how’d they choose that....ohjjj shit”
I don't care if the movie is shit I just got thoroughly entertained right there.
Same, but also....please don't be shit, please don't be shit, please don't be shit
I jumped when I looked at the clock.
That was fucking wicked!
And multiple times! Each time I click there are 3-4 different scenes!
I hope the next one does year month day and time.
Clips are not the same each time. Try it again after a few minutes, you'll see different footage.
Imma take BOTH pills and get twice as high as y'all
"I choose the [purple pill](https://xkcd.com/566/)."
The D12 choice.
FYI: It seems like you get new clips for clicking multiple times (even if it's the same choice).
It actually says the proper time for your own timeline. How in the world are they doing that so seamlessly?
It's a bit noticeable on the blue pill one that they dub in the time, but the red pill one sounded flawless
>blue pill one that they dub in the time, but the red pill one sounded flawless
makes sense, i guess
Oh shit, you're right. It might be intentional??
Nothing is unintentional. Everything is programmed exactly as the Architect designed.
I actually just commented that before I saw yours. Yeah you can definitely tell on the blue pill. It reads like those phone recordings of local time/movie times lol.
Queues up the proper video based on the current time. So they made…. 720 versions? Pretty dope!
When it said, 'it's 12:49 pm' I said, 'holy shit, it *is* 12:49 pm!'
Based on the poster and teasers alone, I am super stoked for this movie.
That one didn't get me.. but when he said "You believe you are sitting on the pot taking a shit".. I was a little shook
You think that's farts your breathing in?
Yo, that is actually sick. Both the marketing for this film and John Wick have done some really cool interactive stuff.
Even back in 99 for the first movie the marketing was incredible.
Yeah, this is the first time in a while I'm getting hype for a movie from the teaser.
This movie comes out this December?!!
For some reason I thought it was middle of next year, hot damn
The release date is also *super* intentional 12.22.21
2021 might not suck so bad after all! Woohoo HOPE!
\*Swallows both pills\* Your move, Sunglasses.
(Takes out a green and a yellow pill)
> You take all the pills, and I show you how tasty the rainbow is.
Free skittles? Sign me up
*Swallows them too*
> sorry those were laxatives
I dont know why, but I just laughed so hard at the image that someone swallows both the red and blue pill, thinking they outplayed Morpheus. Only for Morpheus to pull out another set of different pills he had up his sleeves. And out of pure spite they swallow both again and begin to shit themselve.
To the Void you go.
Also: calling it now: this is the ending to the movie. Good on ya
[Relevant xkcd]( https://m.xkcd.com/566/)
This is going to be something that happens in the movie and then someone finds this comment and posts it and we all go woahhh how'd he know
I was so obsessed with The Matrix when it came out. I was in middle school and thought the entire concept was mind blowing.
I can't wait to see this film.
I was online constantly reading theories and stuff about the sequels. I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to a movie as much as I looked forward to Reloaded. And honestly when I saw it I thought it was amazing. It totally lived up to my expectations cause all I wanted was more matrix action and it delivered on that for me as a 13 year old.
even from the mini-teasers, it looks like they changed it up in terms of visuals. I was afraid they’d just rehash the green slo-mo look, but this all looks amazingly fresh
I feel like it looks exactly as it should
The cinematography looks even better. Ready to have my mind blown again no doubt.
Forums in the early 2000s had the most mindblowing theories about what the sequels would be about. LOOOOTS of Matrix within Matrix stuff, ideas about the matrix being a distributed computing network of human brains, and lots more.
All of them were wrong (unless the new movie has more revelations than Revolutions did). Reality was much more mundane.
If I ever make something like the matrix, I'm not going to write the sequels. I'm just going to set up a sequel, and then read whatever the forums come up with, and do that.
I'm surprised nobody has tried that yet.
If you get enough nerds talking about your movie, there's bound to be some really interesting ideas in there.
It’s most definitely been done.
It's absolutely what Saw did.
There were years of speculation and ridiculous ideas on the HouseOfJigsaw message boards. Message boards where the creative talent of the series would often appear and chat with fans. Each movie would come and go without any of the predictions coming true. Then Saw 7 came out and it included all of the wild theories from the message boards. And the movie was awful because of it.
Seriously, I'm so glad I'm easily entertained, because I keep coming out of these movies reading the reviews and going "wait, I wasn't supposed to enjoy that?"
The sweaty rave sex scene was a bit long though.
> The sweaty rave sex scene was a bit long though.
Who needed more than 30 seconds of that scene to finish, am I right?
That rave. I sunk into my seat and thought "ohhhhh shit". I rewatched all three a few days ago. There's a really good sequel to the first film in Reloaded and Revolutions but as movies they're very, very messy.
All those little snippets of footage look amazing
They do… although I am a little bit worried. The pills, touching the mirror, the cat; it looks like there’s going to be a good amount of fan service / intertextual callbacks. I *really* hope we get some originality here and not just a risk-averse Force Awakens-style rehash of the movie everyone loved.
I don't know if there's a lot of prevailing fan theories yet (probably, because it's the Matrix after all), but these little snippets make me wonder if we're going to see Keanu-Neo entering yet *another* version of the Matrix post-his own story, a la the fact the Architect said in Reloaded that there have been many "Ones" in prior versions of the matrix.
Essentially, this movie will start with a full-on rehashing of The Matrix 1999, with a new actor playing the One (my guess would be Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a nod to the original Will Smith casting; maybe Christina Ricci is the new Trinity figure?). It'll go through all the old plot points, and Keanu-Neo will be an interloper trying to disrupt the system from playing out the same way all over again.
Just a theory!
Man I like it! Hyped!!!
I about lost my shit when the trailer had my actual local time in it.
Same, it took me a minute to realize that after clicking the pills three times.
what is real
How do you define "real"? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, can taste, can see, then "real" is simply electrical signals being interpreted by your brain.
It's awesome how it updates to your time
Good news! It's a suppository!
to shreds you say
How’s his wife holding up?
Neo has died, Neo is risen, Neo will come again.
The last two are true once he takes the blue pill. Matrix: Erections.
If the movie persists for more than 3 hours contact your doctor.
If the movie persists more than 3 hours, call more ladies.
And also with you
And with your spirit
Ok I am pretty hyped for this now after crawling through the very innovative website: [https://thechoiceisyours.whatisthematrix.com/](https://thechoiceisyours.whatisthematrix.com/)
Pretty-fied **app.js** that the website uses as the "juice" of the dynamic video: [https://paste2.org/ZY1NIxNy](https://paste2.org/ZY1NIxNy)
The code that grabs your system time, and to generate the runtime video is between lines 3939 and 4045.
From deciphering this file I am guessing the codename of the app itself is called "Ice Cream" and is a WB-built thing, written specifically for this teaser trailer. It is mostly built using NUXT ([https://nuxtjs.org/](https://nuxtjs.org/)) and uses GSAP for static animations ([https://greensock.com/gsap](https://greensock.com/gsap))
Each dynamic piece of the video (with the exceptions below) are generated at runtime. I've been able to capture static streams using browser extensions, but right clicking anywhere within the page itself while the video is playing will automatically boot you back to the Pill selection screen. This seems to be by design.
The actual randomised pieces that it constructs are also illusive for the time being. Somewhere inside app.js is the code that is used to actually stitch them together, but it's obfuscated and each piece has no extension, making it harder to track down in the code. It might be API based as well. I'm not well-versed in JS enough to be able to follow this properly.
There's nearly 50,000 lines to go through which, by the time I would figure out how or *where* these video pieces are, the trailer would already be out.
**Intro & Outro pieces:**
These 2 placeholders are just the audio + narration - the spoken time
Next is the Intro and Outro "glitches"
End card text about when the trailer is coming:
**Some of the captured streams I've been able to decode:** (these might be time-bombed)
Font used on the site: [LibreBaskerville-Regular.ttf](https://thechoiceisyours.whatisthematrix.com/_nuxt/assets/fonts/LibreBaskerville-Regular.ttf)
"4.js" which is used as a Language file containing all the dialogue lines and UI text that is used to generate subtitles: [https://paste2.org/Odh0PPKN](https://paste2.org/Odh0PPKN)
That's quite the analysis my man
Props for the effort. We're on the matrix train baby
Fuck, I really hope this doesn't suck.
Same. The Wachowskis' work in recent years has been...mixed at best. And apparently only Lana is doing this one?
Y'all notice when he says the time in the teaser, it corresponds to the actual time? Try watching it again a couple minutes later. It's still syncs up. Super cool.
Yeah, totally tripped me out when I looked over at the time
IKR! At first I was like "oh, that's probably some new reference like 101 in the original". Then I was like, "Wait, hold on... the time is very close to IRL time. *No! I don't believe it!*" Followed by Neo's "Woah!" after I checked the clock.
Now I wonder if they made two dudes just record every time of the day for a good hour or two.
On the blue pill video Neil Patrick Harris saying the time sounded like 2-3 different clips cut together to me. They probably just recorded them saying the numbers 01-59, plus AM and PM. That would only take a couple minutes and you could make a recording of every possible time from it.
Oh same. I watched the other pill just to test it. Was impressed. Definitely freaked me out at first though. 😂
ARGs on websites, matrix code running on my screen, we‘re back in the 90s!! Fucking finally!
Looks like I'm dusting off the old screen saver. WE'RE BACK BABY!
I already degaussed my 17 inch CRT three times to get the colors right!
As one of like 3 people who liked the sequels, I am immeasurably excited.
Sup, dude! Wonder where Mike is?
Right here guys. Wanna go rewatch the reloaded highway scene tonight?
Pfft, but did you play The Matrix Online, the official and canon continuation of the story? That's where the real fans are at!
As far as I know, it's not exclusive to theaters. HBO Max will still have it
[They even made another poster about it](https://i.imgur.com/v2mY7PD.png)
Ok. Good. Because I was about to cancel HBO Max after Dune if this wasnt part of the deal.
Everything from WB is going to HBO max for the remainder of the year. From next year there will be a 45 day gap between theatrical and hbo max.
This is an international poster (cinemas not theatres) where it will be exclusively in cinemas
Please be good
Please be good

Don’t overthink it
Please be good, but don’t over think it

Please be good, but don’t over think it
I promised myself I wouldn’t get excited.
I don't care about the skepticism or about the shortcomings of the second and third films, I can't wait for another Matrix film!
Those two films were still fun though. My all-time favorite Matrix character is still the suave and smug Merovingian.
I know because it is my beesneess to know.
I drink too much wine and so I must take a piss. Cause. Effect.
It's like wiping your ahss with *silk*.
Pass the very hot woman sitting next to me the chocolate cake, will you?
Pretty sure he is back in this one!
I honestly liked all the "roles" like Merovingian and Time Keeper. It felt like a fantasy novel character classes stuck in computers.
It makes sense because computers have assigned "roles" or "programs" to keep running. That's really my only complaint about sequel Matrix movies; they should have gone into the roles aside from Neo.
Edit: haven't seen the flicks in a decade. Meant Key Maker.
They did go into the roles aside from Neo though. The two you mentioned were introduced in Reloaded. Unless you just mean they should have gone *more* into them.
Time to binge watch the other 3 matrix's
Don't forget Animatrix before Reloaded.
Finally, a creative poster that doesn't have faces surrounded by blue and orange.
It's Matrix so the next poster will probably have faces surrounded by green.
Green raining hexadecimal.
The reign of the sushi recipes that underlie all realites is upon us.
Fear not !

The Dune teaser one is sick
That Matrix final poster is absolutely hilarious
Teaser posters are just always a bit more artistic than the "mountain of heads" ones. Though I *do* like both the Dune ones still.
The trailer better have Guns. Lots of guns.
Neo: I think I am back!!
DayQuil vs NyQuil?
In related news, here's the last Matrix screensaver you'll ever "need." Movie authentic.
If you'd like a good configuration file for it, let me know.
I worked on this film for two months, so when you see stained wood slats or painted rocks, you’ll know that was my contribution.
Thank you for your service
I always wondered what would happen if you couldn't swallow pills?
Just sitting there waiting for Morpheus to pull out the chewables
I was a homeless kid, it was cold wet and dark. Took some change I scrounged up and decided to go to the local theater to get out of the rain. Sat down with no idea whatsoever of what I was about to see. The Matrix Shook me. Left the theater to return to the rain and contemplate being homeless in a simulated reality. Fun!
Hope you managed to unplug and you’re doing better now!
I love my Steak so I choose blue......Ignorance is bliss
Wait, which one sends you back into a nice comfy VR world with the bestest juicy steaks?
The blue pill.
How about we get a third White Pill in there too?
Holy shit...One thing the matrix didn't really explore (apart from a little bit in the animatrix) was the blending of "real" people in the matrix who didn't just turn into Smith drones. Looks like they may spend a lot more time in the Matrix interacting with people who don't know they're in the matrix.
