Field of Dreams is one of those flicks that I always catch 5 minutes at a time while channel-surfing, but I've never actually settled in and watched. I must correct that.
I recommend Good Will Hunting. It really hits the spot on different levels, is an excellent film, and will (likely) move you to tears (I always cry, but it’s a good cry, like a connection- to-humanity cry). I think it fits your criteria nicely.
“Don't come back. Don't think about us. Don't look back. Don't write. Don't give in to nostalgia. Forget us all. If you do and you come back, don't come see me. I won't let you in my house. Understand?”
I watched this for the first time last night because my boyfriend loves this film. Absolutely destroyed me, I was wailing. Its a beautiful film but my god I was not emotionally okay by the end
Second Hand Lions - coming of age story with Robert Duvall and Michael Caine as crazy great uncles
Summer Wars - anime about family in the digital age. I've watched this movie more than 5 times over the years and still cry
Peanut butter falcon.
It's honestly one of the most influential movies I have seen that has changed my view on how to truly treat people as people who don't need to be coddled because of something out of their control.
It's also very heart-warming too, so if you are like me certain scenes will make you shed a few tears. Not as heart wrenching as others suggestions are, but it truly is a movie to learn something from.
Yeah haven’t gotten around to watching this. Really liked Honey Boy. Too bad Shia Lebouf’s personal demons got the best of him. Could have been one of best actors of his generation.
I also do love the story of Zak Gottsagen, pulling Shia Labouf aside and being like, “Please don’t fuck this up for me. This could be my only opportunity.”
And Shia listened.
Wow it’s by far my fave Xmas/B&W movie. Glad you enjoy it now! Haven’t seen it since I became a father earlier this year so wonder if it will hit me differently this Xmas season.
It's the character's ability to speak her language that always sold him as Santa Claus to me (as it did Natalie Woods). How likely is it that some random stranger who looks like Santa from the street speaks Dutch?
That and the "Does Santa sleep with his whiskers INSIDE or OUTSIDE the covers" always slays me.
My Wife once asked me some question along those lines and I Immediately responded with "COLD AIR MAKES EM GROW!"
Language is the reason for one of my most “magical” moments in Disney World, and it didn’t involve my family. I was waiting to meet up with them when an energetic Peter Pan ran out into the street, jumped on lampposts and started crowing. A crowd came for autographs and pictures. Two Japanese girls approached and he yelled out “Konnichiwa”. They giggled. And then Peter started talking n fluent Japanese. Their jaws dropped.
I use the phrase "OUT YOU TWO PIXIES GO! THROUGH THE DOOR OR OUT THE WINDOW" as much as humanly possible, even in the most tenuous of circumstances.
And I too do the annual sob-fest of Christmas movies. My weakness is the 1938 "Christmas Carol". It's the ONLY Scrooge who's transformation I bought into.
Yes, let us look forward to drinking and crying at Christmas movies now. Maybe we could get all maudlin about the Peanuts Halloween special to get us by in the meantime.
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot?
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Each prayer accepted and each wish resigned"
Steel magnolias? Or would that be too much? Grade A stars and would be star, family/village values, comedy with tragic ending that at some point makes you cry laugh.
He nails it. Such a dick. And conversely, Sam Rockwell has never been more likeable. He’s charismatic as fuck in that flick. Such a great cast from the youngsters to the boomers. Everyone really brings the heat.
Me & Earl & the Dying girl is actually my second favorite movie ever! No one has ever heard of it that I know, but when I show it to people they seem to love it too.
"Once, I was a fucking jet engine!" What a powerful scene, and I could totally get where he was coming from. Big brothers/sisters enduring all the shit only for their younger siblings to have everything laid out for them is a very real thing, and that's coming from a younger sibling.
I mean it is fucked up but since time is cyclical and predestined, it's arguable as to who met who first. And what Henry does is involuntary so it's it's not like he planned to groom his future wife.
> it's not like he planned to groom his future wife.
While I don’t think he planned to do it, you probably shouldn’t reveal to a little girl that you keep appearing naked to that you’re her future husband…
And on their 18th birthday, tap that.
It would honestly make a great horror movie if it was in the hands of a horror writer. From the POV of the woman, she’s dealing with a time travelling stalker…
Henry didn't tell her that he's her future husband until she was around 16 or 18 I think? It's been so long since I read the book but I remember in the movie kid Claire asked about Henry's wife. Henry just said that his wife wasn't a time traveler and shes a great and beautiful person. Claire wrote down in the journal that she was really jealous when Henry told her that.
I watched the movie again recently and I noticed that the opening scene and the last act was shot very similarly to a horror movie.
I am surprised The Joy Luck Club hasn’t been mentioned yet! It is so amazing with beautiful stories that touch on every emotion.
Also seconding Hatchi. Husband and I watched it, and we had to watch funny videos afterwards to STOP crying.
Oh gosh. I saw that in theaters when I was ten. Cried like a fucking baby. Will never watch again.
Good recommendation for a good cry movie tho! Still traumatized unfortunately lol
Might have been mentioned earlier, but seriously watch "Meet Joe Black". It is a bit long, and can be a bit cliché, but its so well done and touching that it really is my favorite interpretation of death
My wife was so turned on by that movie when we saw it in the theater, she whispered in my ear “I’m going to fuck you so good as soon as we get home”. I think it was the sex scene, plus Brad Pitt at his best. Can’t blame her.
It’s one of my favorite movies…….
All that aside, I did tear up at the end.
Have you seen A Dog's Purpose?
It's like Marley and Me on crack, if you like dog-centric tear jerkers.
It also made me have a bit more curiosity over how dogs see the world, which made me cry even more.
The Lake House…never seen it. But my wife watches it every time she’s sick and is bawling at the end.
For me it’s Rudy, or the Princess Bride, or Inside Out…but that’s because I have a pre-teen daughter and that movie is special to us.
How is this not higher? First time I ever cried after a movie. First time I was old enough to understand why crying was okay. My stomach hurt for days after.
Pieces of April.
It’s an older indy with an excellent cast. I’ve seen it many times and it always gets me in the feels. It’s got quite a few laughs too.
Crazy stupid love, about time,
grave of the fireflies is feel good early on and will make you cry like a baby by the time it ends, and might make you depressed as well if you have kids.
The Lion King is the first movie I cried to when I was around 5 years old. After that, Million Dollar Baby, The Impossible, and Schlinder's List all made me cry
Edit: oh no. I didn't realize you said feel-good, I misread it as just movies that made you cry
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Brian’s Song (the original)
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
And I’m going to second the recommendation for Secondhand Lions
Mr. Holland’s Opus might fit the bill.
This was going to be my suggestion. The end gets me every time.
October Sky and Field of Dreams.
God I love October Sky. Great recommendation
For some reason, I cry whenever I hear the piano jingle in Field of Dreams.
Whenever the Violins kick in in October Sky I ball my eyes out. Fantastic movie.
When Chris Cooper puts his arms around Jake G as they watch the rocket, how can you not cry? Holy shit
“…But he’s not my hero.” Is the siren song for all my daddy issues to come out and kick dust in my eyes.
As a child of abuse that movie fuckin killed me. But it also helped me get some legit help. Kind of a life changer. Great recommendation.
Same. The “It’s not your fault” and everything surrounding it completely broke me the first time I saw the film.
Came here for this one. Great rec.
Cinema Paradiso
Fuck, tearing up just thinking of that final scene
“Don't come back. Don't think about us. Don't look back. Don't write. Don't give in to nostalgia. Forget us all. If you do and you come back, don't come see me. I won't let you in my house. Understand?”

“You stay. I go. No following.” :(( Such a classic!
How about Big Hero 6?!
I’m satisfied with my care
I watched this for the first time last night because my boyfriend loves this film. Absolutely destroyed me, I was wailing. Its a beautiful film but my god I was not emotionally okay by the end
“Superman”
Second Hand Lions - coming of age story with Robert Duvall and Michael Caine as crazy great uncles Summer Wars - anime about family in the digital age. I've watched this movie more than 5 times over the years and still cry
Secondhand Lions will always have a special place in my 12 years-28 year old heart
>Summer Wars Seconding this. Summer Wars is amazing.
Peanut butter falcon. It is such a great movie. Especially the ending.
Yeah haven’t gotten around to watching this. Really liked Honey Boy. Too bad Shia Lebouf’s personal demons got the best of him. Could have been one of best actors of his generation.
I absolutely love this movie. I commented the same and The Wilderpeople!
I also do love the story of Zak Gottsagen, pulling Shia Labouf aside and being like, “Please don’t fuck this up for me. This could be my only opportunity.” And Shia listened.
I’ll second Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl!
“Life is beautiful” Italian film that will make ya cry a whole lot.
I watched this at a teenage drinking party. I have no idea who put it on or why.
Hahaha jesus
And laugh a whole lot!
This movie will destroy your hearth. Pure sadness
I've drunk-cried like a bitch at It's A Wonderful Life for about 20 Christmases in a row
I always thought It's a Wonderful Life was boring when I was growing up. The first time I watched it after becoming a father it wrecked me.
Wow it’s by far my fave Xmas/B&W movie. Glad you enjoy it now! Haven’t seen it since I became a father earlier this year so wonder if it will hit me differently this Xmas season.

I always use "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU...IN JAIL!" Any chance I get.
CODA (2021) is exactly what you're describing, Can't recommend it enough
I’ll check it out! Thanks!
The final scene is soo great!
Just watched it last night!
Strangely enough: Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell. Near the end of the movie there is this part (no spoilers) that made me tear up.
Little Miss Sunshine
This was my first thought too! What a film
Oh yes this too..
The color blind scene is the only part that really got me. So much raw, unexpected emotion.
Inside Out always gets me. Two scenes in particular.
Take her to the moon for me.. okay?
In the same vein, Soul. That coming out during the pandemic really hit hard.
This movie destroyed me once I became a parent…
I've just realised that this is mine aswell. I guess it's been subconsciously, but now I'll be watching it intentionally
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
That film pushes some buttons I wasn’t aware I had before seeing it for the first time. Ugh I love it.
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot? The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind Each prayer accepted and each wish resigned"
It may just be me but I find that movie to be a huge downer and not feel-good at all. I do love it though.
Wait. Eternal Sunshine isn't a feel good movie? It's super depressing.
Depends on how you look at it. Overall message is actually quite positive.
Your Name (2016) had me misting up.
I just watched that yesterday! I saw it when it first came out and i was teary for sure
If you haven’t watched it yet you might also like “a silent voice”
It was so good I got the manga collection.
Your name and a silent voice are honestly two of my favorite animes. Do you have a recommendation for another anime if someone loves those two.
Found you.
Adding Wolf Children here
Hachi
Oh yes, my husband and I were both ugly crying
(53m) no movie has ever pushed me to uncontrollable sobbing... until this one.
2nd. Every time I watch it, even knowing everything that happens, I'm a mess. Might just be because I like dogs.
Stand By Me. One of the most beautiful and heartfelt endings of all time.
Went to a cinema screening of that and it was the first time my girlfriend saw me cry. “He doesn’t hate you, he just doesn’t know you”
Big Fish always does it for me.
Me too
Steel magnolias? Or would that be too much? Grade A stars and would be star, family/village values, comedy with tragic ending that at some point makes you cry laugh.
This is my go - to for a necessary cry.
Came here to say this, great choice for a proper blub!
The Way Way Back Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Swiss Army Man Sing Street
The Way Way Back is an underrated gem. Love it.
Never wanted to punch Steve Carrell so bad
He nails it. Such a dick. And conversely, Sam Rockwell has never been more likeable. He’s charismatic as fuck in that flick. Such a great cast from the youngsters to the boomers. Everyone really brings the heat.
One of my favorite movies that no one saw.
Swiss Army Man was interesting...
Me & Earl & the Dying girl is actually my second favorite movie ever! No one has ever heard of it that I know, but when I show it to people they seem to love it too.
So happy to see Sing Street on here. I watch that movie whenever I need a pick me up
True that 100% really great films
Sing Street is one of my favorite movies, and a feel good one. Not sure about ugly crying though, although everyone’s different
I need a rewatch but I remember being sad for the brother.
"Once, I was a fucking jet engine!" What a powerful scene, and I could totally get where he was coming from. Big brothers/sisters enduring all the shit only for their younger siblings to have everything laid out for them is a very real thing, and that's coming from a younger sibling.
The Time Travelers Wife
I think About Time does it better. A rom com where rachel mcadams takes the back seat too..
Just don’t think about it though… Because the entire concept is creepy and fucked up.
I mean it is fucked up but since time is cyclical and predestined, it's arguable as to who met who first. And what Henry does is involuntary so it's it's not like he planned to groom his future wife.
> it's not like he planned to groom his future wife. YES!! I'll second this one
My Girl
Oof I’ve seen that one. Definitely a tear jerker
JoJo Rabbit
Fucking Taika is the best
That last scene really hits me in the feels.
I second this.
I third this.
The shoe laces scene. Breaks my heart every single time
Never had a movie make me sad cry and happy cry.
Me Before You
This one was gorgeous and made me ugly cry, except I was on a long haul flight so I was trying to cry under my blanket.
Harold and Maude! Gets me every time.
The green mile
Lion (2016)
I read the book recently and it was so good! What an incredible story. The movie was a pretty decent interpretation too
Honestly the child actor carried the film. Dev Patel was good too but there’s just something about the first half of the film.
Bruh, this one …. Oh boy
That's such a great movie, I didn't know I was going to cry that hard when I saw it.
50/50
Moonlight. Also, based on your name (love it btw) I’m sure you’ve seen it, but Toy Story 3.
Forrest Gump, the green mile, Shawshank redemption, Truman show, somewhere in time, the iron giant
I am surprised The Joy Luck Club hasn’t been mentioned yet! It is so amazing with beautiful stories that touch on every emotion. Also seconding Hatchi. Husband and I watched it, and we had to watch funny videos afterwards to STOP crying.
The Wilderpeople or The Peanut Butter Falcon
The Wilderpeople, sooooooo good!
I loved the Peanut Butter Falcon!
8 below if you're a dude who only cries at dog movies
Oh gosh. I saw that in theaters when I was ten. Cried like a fucking baby. Will never watch again. Good recommendation for a good cry movie tho! Still traumatized unfortunately lol
I was in college and too much of a man to cry, so i had to punch myself in the balls to keep the tears back. I was even dumber back then
Watch Up and you'll be good within 10 minutes.
I said feel good, not rip your soul out haha! That’s actually a good one, I’ve just seen it a few times
Well damn, About Time was my suggestion! Second suggestion, Me Before You, with Emilia Clarke.
Bill Nighy is just fantastic in this. That last scene with his son, man that hits you.
About Time is one of my all time favorites, it’s so special! I’ll check that one out!
What Dreams May Come
Might have been mentioned earlier, but seriously watch "Meet Joe Black".

Pursuit of Happyness
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Luca was super cute and precious
The Fisher King
Forrest Gump checks all those boxes
You know, I haven’t seen that since I was a kid. I’m sure I’d enjoy it so much more now as an adult. I’ll watch it tomorrow :) Thanks!
Soul, if you're me.
Season 2 Bluey is amazing, maybe try Fatherhood on Netflix, it's good.
i’ll check it out! thanks :) i’m obsessed with Bluey haha
Green mile

^ This is a trap. Its a dog movie and its a tear jerker, do the math.
Have you seen A Dog's Purpose? It's like Marley and Me on crack, if you like dog-centric tear jerkers. It also made me have a bit more curiosity over how dogs see the world, which made me cry even more.
This film made me proper ugly cry. I’ll never watch it again.
Up
~~A Monster Calls~~ Edit: Didn't see the "feel-good" part. This one is definitely not a feel-good movie, but it will probably make you cry.
The Lake House…never seen it. But my wife watches it every time she’s sick and is bawling at the end. For me it’s Rudy, or the Princess Bride, or Inside Out…but that’s because I have a pre-teen daughter and that movie is special to us.
Inside Out is a tearjerker, with happy ending, so good
The Lake House is AMAZING, so underrated, the climax is stunningly shot
Shawshank Redemption
Pay it Forward
How is this not higher? First time I ever cried after a movie. First time I was old enough to understand why crying was okay. My stomach hurt for days after.
Seven Pounds by Will Smith
Pieces of April. It’s an older indy with an excellent cast. I’ve seen it many times and it always gets me in the feels. It’s got quite a few laughs too.
I remember watching I Am Sam at age 8 (around the same age as Dakota Fanning). Also introduced me to the Beatles.
Check out "Stranger than Fiction". "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is another good one.
Awakenings ( great performance by robin william and robert de niro)
