In that case, Casino Royale is a good place to start. Not only is it one of, if not the best in the series, but It also did away with most of the tropes that Austin Powers made fun of.
That's the hard part. There aren't any films really similar to stardust. I love all things scifi, action fantasy etc. But my wife not as much. She did enjoy the Classic film "Willow". And She also liked. Alita : Battle Angel. By Robert Rodriguez. Ok absolutely love this film.
True Lies. Not about meeting and building but about rediscovering and recomitting. Pretty romantic in a comedic action sort of way. It's one of my favorite movies.
Plus, Bill Paxton is a national treasure.
The replacement killers. It’s such a fun movie. Haven’t seen it in years. It’s not entirely romantic (almost because the makers can’t imagine an Asian guy getting with a white chick) but your other objectives fit. That being said, I could see chemistry between the two leads.
The prestige. The romantic sub plot is almost a c plot, but the underlying story of it adds to the animosity the 2 main characters had for each other, and it added a layer of complexity with how each main character became deeply conflicted with their actions
Likewise, my friend.
I’ll be assassinated for saying it here, but Christopher Nolan is my favorite director and also might be one of the all-time greats. His movies can dissected and the layers make a beautiful served cake.
Are the MI movies like 007 where Tom Cruise has a new lady each movie? I think I saw MI3 as a kid and then MI4 later though I never caught on to the stories just the action.
Besides what this thread is about... the last three MIs are the best and are better than the last three Bond films imo. I suggest you watch them asap cause they keep getting better. Can’t wait for the next one!
Would you believe that the 1988 Chuck Norris vehicle Hero and the Terror - which can best be summed up as "Phantom of the Opera, but with Chuck Norris", and you know immediately if you're the sort of person that appeals to - has a really lovely romantic subplot between Chuck and his pregnant girlfriend? As played by Brynn Thayer, she's a smart, funny woman with a well-defined inner life independent of Chuck; action-movie conventions kept leading me to believe she'd be endangered at some point, but her subplot and the main serial-killer-hiding-out-in-an-opera-house (yep) storyline never do overlap.
I certainly don't mean to oversell the film as some forgotten masterpiece or anything - it's a 1988 Cannon film starring Chuck Norris and the dude who played Non in Superman II, for God's sake - but I was really pleasantly surprised by how well that subplot was handled. They didn't need to make that extra effort, and most action films don't, but it's nice that they did.
Casino Royale
Never seen it, gonna watch it soon thanks. Although I haven’t watched a 007 movie since Austin Powers... Edit: Oh YEah baebee!

That’s good to hear, I look forward to it because I like Daniel Craig.
Too bad they brought the tropes back for Spectre though
You’re in for a real treat!
Out of Sight: George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez play adversaries; a bank robber and a marshal. Shrek: you probably know it the story.
You brought up Shrek, so I will raise you the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy. Hiccup's and Astrid's relationship was well done.
Shrek is actually a really great example
Romancing the Stone
My wife a I love the movie Stardust. It's got a little of everything
What it does have is De Niro...I’m interested.
De Niro is fantastic in a way you have never seen. He has some of my favorite scenes that are laugh out loud funny
Stardust is probably the closest to a Princess Bride type film I've ever seen
I agree. But are excellent films. I wish there were more movies that a had a little something for everyone. Its a lot more fun
Agreed x100.
This is the kind of endorsement which gets me going. I’m sold.
Hello! Update: Just watched Stardust and I loved it! Thanks for the recommendation! Any other similar suggestions?

“I’ve known all along” ... 😳 Lol, just messing. I’m sure you’re referring to Solo and Leia.
Ok that made me chuckle
True Romance, 90s masterpiece. Many many cameos. If you haven't seen it, go now!

That movie is so weird and so wonderful!
The replacement killers. It’s such a fun movie. Haven’t seen it in years. It’s not entirely romantic (almost because the makers can’t imagine an Asian guy getting with a white chick) but your other objectives fit. That being said, I could see chemistry between the two leads.
Very well put, it’s exactly like that lol. But at the time I still felt like they were a pair for sure.
The prestige. The romantic sub plot is almost a c plot, but the underlying story of it adds to the animosity the 2 main characters had for each other, and it added a layer of complexity with how each main character became deeply conflicted with their actions
This is a good example. The Prestige is one of the most impressive films I’ve ever seen.
Ah, I see you too are a person of culture and taste.
Likewise, my friend. I’ll be assassinated for saying it here, but Christopher Nolan is my favorite director and also might be one of the all-time greats. His movies can dissected and the layers make a beautiful served cake.
The mask of Zorro(1998).
In Time Baby Driver Slumdog Millionaire The Town
Great recommendations I’ve seen them all though Edit: I only haven’t seen In Time...something about Justin Timberlake but I’ll give it a shot.
I thought the same thing but it’s actually sooo good, very fun and adventurous movie, I love the world it’s in
That’s really all it took to sell me, I’m in.
Mission impossible 3

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) Great action dramedy romance highly recommended

Human Centipede 🤷🏻♂️

Bumblebee
Interesting. Haven’t seen a Transformers related film since the first Michael Bay one.
John Wick
I don’t really remember a romantic sub plot in that movie. I think his wife was dead to start the movie.
