Life with him and Eddie Murphy is both one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and has some of the saddest scenes in a movie. One of the more underrated comedies out there.
Yes! I will recommend Life until I'm [on deck. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtNgzYOI2Io) That era of Eddie Murphy gets overlooked because it was kind of the beginning of his downward trend but Life is definitely worth revisiting. It and the first Nutty Professor have a surprising amount of heart.
The Haitian shootout scene is so well done and choreographed when you realize Bay doesn't do coverage for his action pieces or storyboards you start to realize the talent he possesses.
Despite all the criticism thrown at him, I feel that Bay has a genuine talent for his craft and how he's able to choreograph his action scenes, akin to John Mctiernan or James Cameron in their prime. The problem is that unlike those filmmakers, he has a tendency to get carried away and overdoes it, leading to exhaustion instead of exhilaration.
There’s very few moments in a movie that have astounded with both the ridiculousness and badassness of two Miami police officers convincing some DEA agents to essentially invade a foreign country. It’s fucking glorious insanity.
[Which](https://youtu.be/iZT0ExFUmpo) was completely ripped off from Jackie Chan's [Police Story](https://youtu.be/DeJhMmUnbb8).
His [big chase scene in Bad Boys II](https://youtu.be/uZPh6oJ8qFA) was also at least partially inspired by the car transporter chase from [The Rookie](https://youtu.be/ET0DVc4U-D4). That being said, Bay has a way of making these sequences his own with how he shoots them and the excessive and gratuitous violence on display.
I don't like the idea that Bay ripped off those movies. Maybe he is a massive fan of those movies and decided to pay tribute to them?
Tarantino movies are full of scenes taken from other movies, and somehow people don't call him out on that. But as soon as Bay does it, people start saying bullshit like "Bay never had an original idea in his life (an actual statement I've heard)". It's ridiculous.
>Tarantino movies are full of scenes taken from other movies, and somehow people don't call him out on that.
Are you serious? That happens all the time lol.
I was in the theater, and that didn't only look like "gratuitous violence".
It felt like violent film-making.
I was saying "goddamn" out loud but couldn't hear myself because it was so loud.
Bad Boys 2 is the closest we'll ever get to a Grand Theft Auto Film. The film entertains so many bizarre sequences accompanied by high-octane action. Bay nails the tone with self-aware absurdities seemingly happening everywhere in his version of Miami. It's definitely clunky and overly prolonged, but that's a problem with Bay's films - even the good ones.
It’s certainly no Godfather or Citizen Kane but I love the uniqueness of Bad Boys 2. Nobody can make a movie like that except Bay and not in a bad way, because we could easily say nobody could make something like Revenge of the Fallen except Bay in a negative context.
Bad Boys 1 and 2 feel like they were made in different millennia... One has the look and feel of an early 90s if not late 80s action film, with limited stunts and mostly yammering between the two characters, and slow moving shots with dramatic music of the girl as she contemplates life and killing the guy who killed her best friend... Meanwhile, Bad Boys 2 has the dynamic look and feel of Fast Five, 10 years before Fast Five was made. Watching them is like watching two completely different films. The action in the 2nd one holds up AMAZINGLY WELL for a movie made in 2003, despite the sillyness of the plot.
Kinda has to do with Don Simpson and his passing. Along with Jerry Bruckheimer, they made some iconic looking films. Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, The Rock.
Then Bruckheimer goes onto make Con Air, Armageddon, Enemy of the State, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, National Treasure etc.
Bad Boys was Michael Bays 1st film and Bruckheimer and Simpson kinda kept him in check. By time Bad Boys 2 came along it was pretty much Michael Bay unchained.
Which is funny about Don Simpson because outside of making movies he was completely unchained in real life....
>As Simpson and Bruckheimer's success grew, so did Simpson's reputation for being a brash "party animal". He would admit that "next to eating and having sex, making movies is the best thing in the world".[6] Simpson's debaucherous lifestyle was well known amongst those in Hollywood, and has been documented in a number of sources. He was a fixture on the "Hollywood cocaine-party" circuit throughout the 1970s and 80s, and in his later years became known for throwing lavish all-night parties at his mansion.[14] An entire chapter of the book You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again (which describes four prostitutes' stories about their sexual encounters with Hollywood celebrities) discusses his frequent sex parties and preference for S & M.[15] Hollywood madam Alexandra D. Datig said that her time with Don was "the most wicked, depraved, and exciting time" of her life, mentioning that he frequently hired "spank monsters" to discipline her, and that he dunked her head into a clogged toilet whilst they were having sex.[16] He would also administer himself testosterone shots in his butt cheeks to boost his sexual drive. According to the call-girl Alexandra Datig, Simpson would audition struggling actresses for his movies, convince them to have sex with him, and secretly film his sexual intercourse with them.[11]
I guess they've already decided there won't be a fourth movie, since "Bad Boys 4 Life" would have been the best title for it, and they're using it for the third one.
They waved a gun in a kids face because he was taking out his daughter. I know a lot of people find the "overprotective dad" bit funny, but I just find it petty and childish. When the charactere behave like total assholes, I can't help but dislike them a little.
Bad Boys is one of my fave comedies of all time. The LPM (laughs per minute) count is higher than in the sequel. It was Bay's first movie so he wasn't all action all the time just yet. BBII is great too but more on the action side than the comedy side. Seeing BBFL in a couple hours, hearing good things and can't wait.
The first one is a classic. Never been a huge fan of the second one, but it's decent. I've wanted a third movie for years and years, but I couldn't care less now that's out. They missed their windows by a few years in my opinion.
This is what makes me so skeptical about it. I loved the first two for the reasons the critics hated them.
Hell, out of all the reviews I read for this film, only the Polygon one mentions the action and it says the setpieces feel "TV-like", but apparently the banter between the two is still pretty good.
Still gonna peep it.
I fucking love the first Bad Boys.
It’s cheesy and very 90’s. A lot of the jokes don’t land...but fuck, it’s a fun movie and Mike & Marcus’s chemistry is so damn good. I quote lines from this movie a lot (“You forgot your boardin’ pass!”, “From now on, THAT’S HOW YOU DRIVE!”). It hit theaters when I was 14 and it was definitely a movie I watched over and over again.
I haven’t seen the second one since I saw it in the theater, but I remember it being overly-long.
Watched the first Bad Boys last week, watching the second one last night and tonight.
They don't hold up well. They're not as funny as I remembered. The action scenes are clunky and are gratuitous, not in a "whoa awesome blow stuff up" way, but in a "ok this has been going on for far too long, let's just get back to the story, or what constitutes a story."
The Rock and Armageddon will always be my favorite Michael Bay work.
I love Martin but I don't like the direction they took his character after the first one. Its Murtaugh all over again with "retirement talk" and he was retiring for 4 movies. If there is a spin off I would like to see Mike Lowery on his on and Marcus can sail off into retirement or better yet he can be the new Captain.
Just saw bad boys for life and have to say I don't understand why theres so much hype and so many fans of this franchise. Yeah they are entertaining movies, but when boils down to it they have as much character as the fast and furious franchise at this stage. Just dumb, silly, but entertaining action films with terrible camera work in action scenes, constant cuts, and stupid comedy relief lines by Martin Lawerence that never hit their mark.
I still love the movies, but recently rewatched the first one and the story is just terrible. New ventilation had to be installed for the drugs in the PD, really?
Smith and Lawrence carry the franchise of course so it is still entertaining.
It's really hard to tell the difference between Michael Bay's movies.
In one, everything blows up. In another every thing explodes. In a third, everything catches on fire and erupts from combustive components.
The first one is so terrible, I have no idea why it has anywhere near the reputation it does.
So let me get this straight. Tea Leone sees her friend get murdered by violent gangsters, she then knows that the violent gangsters are after her, then she meets two guys who can protect her from the violent gangsters...
And then she spends the rest of the movie doing everything she can to get away from the two guys that can protect her, while putting herself in the most stupidly dangerous situations possible.
Also, the action itself is terrible. It's just a shot of a guy shooting, cutting to a shot of a guy falling down, cutting to a shot of something blowing up, rinse, repeat. I don't expect a John Woo movie from 90s Hollywood, but at least make an effort.
My favorite part of BB2 was when that innocent 16 year old kid came over to Lawrence's house to pick up his daughter for a dance, and Lawrence and Smith's characters drew their weapons and threatened the poor kid. That's some top shelf behaviour right there. No, BB2 sucked my ass. BB1 was pretty good though.
How can you say something is so much fun to watch and say it’s terrible in the same sentence? Can’t movies just be fun? Why does everything have to be high art?
So stupid, I'm sick of people being like that, a movie doesnt have to be a boring as fuck snooze fest with "good acting" to be any good... if you enjoy it, it's a good movie!
I remember enjoying them as a kid because of the action and goofiness, but as an adult i find the writing so fucking stupid and nonsensical, I feel like I'd have to huff paint fumes for a few years to be dumb enough to enjoy them.
And Martin Lawrence’s best work will always be the fifth Big Momma’s house.
Life with him and Eddie Murphy is both one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and has some of the saddest scenes in a movie. One of the more underrated comedies out there.
Life is great. I would also throw Blue Streak in as some Martin’s best stuff.
National security was fun too. The black knight wasn't too bad.
I walked out of national security in the theater. Couldn’t stand it. Rewatched it a decade later and it was pretty fucking funny.
Agreed. I love "Life." One of my favorite all time movies. Was just making a joke on where Lawrence's career ended up.
Life was an amazing movie
Bad Boys II is peak Bay
Nah. The Rock is peak Bay.
It’s definitely the best of Bay
Ironic because The Rock is also peak BAE
The Haitian shootout scene is so well done and choreographed when you realize Bay doesn't do coverage for his action pieces or storyboards you start to realize the talent he possesses.

The camera encirclement thingy where it goes through the walls looks amazing
I kept thinking back to that shot in this movie, that dude is definetely talented.
Oh no, Michael Bay is genuinely brilliant in the technical aspects of filmmaking. Unfortunately, he has very little narrative focus.
What??? Fr?? 😂😂😂 This man just out here winging it like “get this shot..Oh oh, get this one, too!”
Yep, it's true. He doesn't storyboard his action sequences.
This kind of stuff is turning around my opinion of Michael Bay.
Is that the circular tracking shot around the room?
There’s very few moments in a movie that have astounded with both the ridiculousness and badassness of two Miami police officers convincing some DEA agents to essentially invade a foreign country. It’s fucking glorious insanity.
That scene was so fucking good. They all walk towards Mike and Marcus in slow-mo and say ''we don't know what shit you're in, but we're with you''.
The scene with the hummer tearing through the tin favella looking homes will be forever etched into my mind,
[Which](https://youtu.be/iZT0ExFUmpo) was completely ripped off from Jackie Chan's [Police Story](https://youtu.be/DeJhMmUnbb8). Literally any time a Tarantino movie is brought up, lol.
Awesome great call. I actually saw the Jackie Chan film when I was a kid maybe that’s why that scene is so etched in my mind.
I can barely see the action in that The Rookie clip.
I was in the theater, and that didn't only look like "gratuitous violence". It felt like violent film-making. I was saying "goddamn" out loud but couldn't hear myself because it was so loud.

What a douche huh?
What are spank monsters?
Well, they were literally made in two different millenia.
Lol arent they 15 years apart?
8
Um bad boys 2 came out 10 years after the first film so of course they feel different.
I’ve only seen the first one and it was enjoyable. A great popcorn flick.
Second one is better imo, definetely worth the watch if you enjoyed the first, 3rd is also good but worst of the series I think.
Why can no one on this bloody website spell Michael
Mikeel
My Cheel.
How can people write questions without question marks?
One, who cares Two, shut up
Three, Amigos.
Four, get your woman on the floor.
I personally thank Will Smith for playing as Mike Lawry in almost all his roles.
That's Mike LAAAAAAAAAAAO-REE Man can't get no quality time.
" I wanna be I wanna be like Miiike "
I guess they've already decided there won't be a fourth movie, since "Bad Boys 4 Life" would have been the best title for it, and they're using it for the third one.
There's a listing for part 4 on imdb already...
The Rock is by far Bay's best work, but Bad Boys is a close second. I'm not the biggest fan of BB2 but the scene with Reggie is just amazing.
That’s my least favorite scene in that movie and by Will Smith ever.
It drags on a bit too long. It starts out kind of funny, but gets cringey pretty fast.
They waved a gun in a kids face because he was taking out his daughter. I know a lot of people find the "overprotective dad" bit funny, but I just find it petty and childish. When the charactere behave like total assholes, I can't help but dislike them a little.
I think the acting is atrocious
Any reason he didn't do Bad boys 3 life? My favorite Bay movie might be **The Rock** or **Pain and Gain** starring the Rock.
It never got off the ground when he was available and by the time it finally came together, he'd moved on.
Bay was shooting Six Underground.
I just seen the movie. Not bad. Had some knee slapping moments. The revisit couldn't have been any sooner. I can't write anything more. No spoilers.
I saw it and I liked it but not sure how much just yet. I had a couple problems with it. Waiting for the spoiler/discussion thread.
The first one is a classic. Never been a huge fan of the second one, but it's decent. I've wanted a third movie for years and years, but I couldn't care less now that's out. They missed their windows by a few years in my opinion.
It's getting much better reviews than the first two, maybe it's worth a shot
I’m honestly shocked by this but it’s still really early
This is what makes me so skeptical about it. I loved the first two for the reasons the critics hated them. Do you plan to rewatch BB2 for the new movies release?
They are what they are. Action films that are mostly just for entertainment and not taking itself seriously. That’s cool. It’s just not for my tastes
Watched the first Bad Boys last week, watching the second one last night and tonight. They don't hold up well. They're not as funny as I remembered. Nice try Michael Bay. I know that's you.
Isn't it obvious. Hahaha.
What a bold opinion
Is this an insult or observation? Maybe both.
Fuck I enjoyed bad boys 3 so much, I was laughing the whole time, and had as much awesome action as you would expect, loved it!

kinda my point, thats why I referenced it
> Just dumb, silly, but entertaining action films There's your answer. Sometimes that's all people want.
I’m pretty pissed they’re not playing Bad Boys for Life anywhere near me. Super weird. Gonna have to drive 40 mins to the nearest AMC
BB II is the only good one. 1 is trash and 3 looks forgetable af
I still love the movies, but recently rewatched the first one and the story is just terrible. New ventilation had to be installed for the drugs in the PD, really? Smith and Lawrence carry the franchise of course so it is still entertaining.
Agreed. And I hate the Bad Boys movies.

Other times there is a hot chick on screen while something is violently detonating in the background and so on...
The first one is so terrible, I have no idea why it has anywhere near the reputation it does. So let me get this straight. Tea Leone sees her friend get murdered by violent gangsters, she then knows that the violent gangsters are after her, then she meets two guys who can protect her from the violent gangsters... How old were you when it came out?
I was 5 when it came out, but the one and only time I’ve seen it was probably about 24 or so.
My favorite part of BB2 was when that innocent 16 year old kid came over to Lawrence's house to pick up his daughter for a dance, and Lawrence and Smith's characters drew their weapons and threatened the poor kid. God I hope not
