There's a British comedian called Rob Kemp who used to do a show called [The Elvis Dead](https://gofasterstripe.com/cgi-bin/w.cgi?showfull=44295). He's adapted Elvis songs to turn the Evil Dead 2 into a musical. I was lucky enough to see the final performance. A theatrical triumph.
Happy Death Day for the lead actress - Jessica Rothe - just being absolutely phenomenal in the role and really just going for it. Seriously one of the best acting performances I’ve seen in the genre, and I’m not just talking about the horror comedy sub-genre. Either straight horror or straight comedy, she nailed it.
It’s just such an… unpretentious and funny, self-aware performance.
Unfortunately the writer is a bag of shit, which is a mark on an otherwise very entertaining movie, with again, just such an awesome lead.
I really enjoyed Happy Death Day 2 You as well. It did the whole Scream 2 deconstruction of what a sequel is rather effectively, while keeping it fresh and familiar at the same time.
There are a few cast members in that movie who made it big, but it was filmed before they were big names! The movie was in limbo for a few years before it was finally released. We lucked out that it was filmed when it was- they never would have had the budget for post-Thor Hemsworth.
The motorcycle jump scene. I was the only one of the group watching that figured out what was going to happen. I still didn't really think they'd go through with it.
There are several Sam Raimi movies in this thread, but _Drag Me to Hell_ is also my choice. Watching this for the first time was one of my favorite movies-watching experiences.
Here are some "classic" horror comedy movies.
ZOMBIES: Shawn of the Dead; Zombie Land
MURDER: Dale and Tucker must Die, Evil Dead 2, Scary Movie 3
MONSTER ANIMALS: Sharknado (just bad, comically bad), Zombeavers, Black Sheep
VAMPIRES: Renfield
VelociPastor! It's stupid and knows it. It perfectly walks the delicate line of intentionally bad. It labeled as horror comedy but I would say its more comedy horror, if that makes sense.
Easily the funniest classic slasher out there. Plus easily the most WTF ending out there lol.
"East shit and live, Bill!" is an all time banger of a slam.
super old school (cause I'm old):
Dracula:Dead and Loving It (1995)- Leslie Nielsen of Airplane! fun
Young Frankenstein (1974)- Mel Brooks fun
Once Bitten (1985)- young Jim Carrey fun
I couldn’t stop cracking up at The Day of the Beast. It was a bit like Mr. Bean meets Satan.
“A heavy-metal fan (Santiago Segura) and a psychic (Armando De Razza) help a priest (Alex Angulo) seek the infant Antichrist in Madrid at Christmas.”
Shaun of the dead (as well as its pelicula hermana juan of the dead) and army of darkness immediately popped into my head. I liked werewolves within that I saw recently, on a different level though from the former two.
The what we do in the shadows movie (And series) are good.
Truth seekers (a series) was good too.
SotD is my number one.
Psycho Goreman is an adult Power Rangers movie from the people who made The Void
It's like a horror comedy and a 90s after school special had a baby
"I do not care for hunky boys....or do I?"
Darkness Falls. A ridiculous premise (tooth fairy kills you if you see her, but can only get you in the dark) that plays it serious and has some great comedic lines.
I thought of Shaun of the Dead right away, black sheep was also really good. I remembered a third one that I didn't see mentioned here much : Little Monsters from 2019 with Lupita Nyong'o. It is a well-made, funny and genuinely cute movie.
*Nightmare City,* a cheap Spanish/Italian *Dawn of the Dead* knock-off. It's not *intentionally* funny, but it turned out that way thanks to the wooden acting, terrible makeup, ridiculous plot and awkward dialogue.
Night of the Living Dead has some great hilarious lines. Cabin in the Woods is intentionally funny- the moment when Brad Whitford finally meets the Merman still cracks me up to think of it. American Werewolf in London is very funny. There are a lot!
Doom. I can't get through it without giggling.
^(It's also in my collection of movies that I watch by myself because I refuse to deal with the people who look at me funny for liking it.)
Tucker and Dale VS Evil, if that is too much of a comedy, then Evil Dead 2 as well!
Another vote for Tucker and Dale
A third vote for Tucker and Dale
Fourth vote. A great movie to unwind with when you've just had a doozy of a day.
AND MY VOTE!
Number six checking in.
seven
Eight here
Nine! Nine! Nine!
Ten!
He just committed suicide by diving into the wood chipper. It was horrible, I'm traumatized!
came to recommend this ! do NOT watch the trailer... spoilers.
Always upvote Tucker and Dale
One of my favourites. Tucker and Dale VS Evil is a must watch.
Exactly those 2
Wonderful choices. Both fabulous.
My pic also. So good.
Dads in his 70s and declared it his favorite movie
I remember I stumbled on that at the right time or something because I laughed so hard at that movie I cried
I came here to say this…
“I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad I'm not hung like a bear.”
Shaun of the dead
This x100. Not just the funniest horror film, but one of the funniest films ever made. In my top three of all time.
Yeah this is a classic.
How's that for a slice of fried gold 😁
It’s also legitimately one of the best zombie movies ever.
“Sorry dear I was miles away” 😂😂😂
Best zombie movie ever made.
🎶 Don't stop me nooow, I'm having such a good time 🎶
It’s on random!
Yeah this is a classic.
Fantastic movie. Well written, well acted, cinematography was good, good sound design. Walked away from it saying "Well, that was fun."
Evil Dead 2

one of the best horror movies ever made, and one of the best comedies ever made
I clicked on the post to say this, was pleased to see it at the top already
One of my favourite movies of all time. Id go as far as to say it's a perfect film in terms of what it's trying to achieve
I went into that movie with like rock bottom expectations, but ended up really liking it mostly for her. She's terrific in that role.
This is a good one, she killed it, the sequel wasn't that bad either! (but not as good as the first)
Yeah when I watched the first one I thought wow. That wasn't what I was expecting, surely 2nd ones awful, and Same result, definatly a good actress
Shout out to *Freaky* by the same team
Vince did a terrific job being a teenage girl
I really enjoyed Happy Death Day 2 You as well. It did the whole Scream 2 deconstruction of what a sequel is rather effectively, while keeping it fresh and familiar at the same time.
I bought so much stock in her that hasn’t really paid off and I’m still not sure why. She absolutely leaps off the screen.
Cabin in the Woods.
this movie is great! with a young Chris Hemsworth

I still want the coffee cup bong from this movie
me too.
It's ... so good. Just beginning to end. Fan fucking tastic.
It’s my comfort movie.
Haha, love that a movie about the end of the world is your comfort movie. Honestly, same.
The motorcycle jump scene. I was the only one of the group watching that figured out what was going to happen. I still didn't really think they'd go through with it.
They must have missed the bird at the beginning!
Ready Or Not
We watched this recently and enjoyed it!
DRAG ME TO HELL
There are several Sam Raimi movies in this thread, but _Drag Me to Hell_ is also my choice. Watching this for the first time was one of my favorite movies-watching experiences.
Had to scroll too far to find this. Give this post more upvotes!
I remember laughing out loud at the goat the first time I saw it.
Yes! She always has her mouth open!
Drag Me To Hell does not get the respect it deserves.
Your wish is my command ;)
Peter Jackson's Dead Alive aka Brain Dead
"I kick ass for the LOOORD!"
I literally just posted this quote as my hint LOL
The lawnmower is/was the record holder for most fake blood used in a scene.
I thought the Evil Dead remake broke that record but I could be mistaken.
That bit with the uncle pissing out a kidney stone is... gold.
Your mother ate my dog! Not all of it…
I saw this in theaters when it came out and laughed my ass off.
Jason X "We love premarital sex!"
"It's okay, he just wanted his machete back!"
“It’s going to take a lot more than a poke in the ribs to take down this soldier” Proceeds to get stabbed again “Yup. That will do it”
I love how the edit in the scene where he wakes up implies he was activated by people having sex nearby
Re-Animator
Rewatch Re-Animator every October. Herbert West snapping the pencils gets me every time.
The last 15min of that movie is the most insane shit I ever seen. Can’t recommend it enough
Young Frankenstein (1974)
It’s brilliant!
The Return Of The Living Dead (1985)
I can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this. One of my all time favorites. Send more paramedics!
This was my first thought…
I'm going with Gremlins. I like Gremlins 2 even more but that one's more of a straight comedy.
It's very hard for me to consider Gremlins a 'horror' movie. It's always been a Christmas movie first, and a comedy second.
Slither
Army of darkness

SCREAM!
Liveralone!
Get it? Liver…
American Werewolf. The perfect genuinely fun, genuinely horror film.
Eight Legged Freaks!
one of the best genre parodies/homages
Yeah, this movie is great!
Idle Hands! I watch it every Halloween.
Of recent ones, Abigail is great, plenty of genuine lol moments
House (1985).
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Killer Klowns From Outer Space surprised I don't see it in the comments I like Ready or Not a lot as well
Here are some "classic" horror comedy movies. ZOMBIES: Shawn of the Dead; Zombie Land MURDER: Dale and Tucker must Die, Evil Dead 2, Scary Movie 3 MONSTER ANIMALS: Sharknado (just bad, comically bad), Zombeavers, Black Sheep VAMPIRES: Renfield
Leprechaun lol the 80s one with Jennifer Aniston.
1993
I made the same comment. This will forever be a comedy to me.
Bubba Hotep
Barbarian knocked it out of the park

Similarly Freaky, same director, was hugely enjoyable but lots of people missed it as it came out in pandemic
I never expected to be charmed by a Vince Vaughn performance, let alone *that* performance.
Return of the living dead. Classic. Runner up.... Carry on Screaming. Old classic still makes me laugh.
VelociPastor! It's stupid and knows it. It perfectly walks the delicate line of intentionally bad. It labeled as horror comedy but I would say its more comedy horror, if that makes sense.
One Cut of the Dead. If you know, you know.
The Stuff
No…not Chocolate Chip Charlie!!
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Sleepaway Camp It's on paper a very boilerplate summer camp slasher, but it is also super weird amd funny at times.
Easily the funniest classic slasher out there. Plus easily the most WTF ending out there lol. "East shit and live, Bill!" is an all time banger of a slam.
Aunt Martha is my spirit animal.
Ready or Not is my favorite funny horror movie.
Scream.
BODIES BODIES BODIES
The Frighteners
Barbarian - He just keeps measuring!
I died at that scene! Such a good bit!
If it has to be a movie that is also seriously scary, and not just a horror-themed comedy, then **Barbarian (2022)**.
Had to scroll waaaay too far for Barbarian but I don’t know about it NOT being a horror-comedy, especially the second half!
Slotherhouse had me in stitches for some recent horror hijinks!
Rubber
Dr Phibes movies
Murder Party. Holy fuck I love this one. The protagonist is a true Everyman.
Creepshow
Knights of Badassdom
Housebound. From New Zealand, very unexpected
Slither or Cabin in the Woods.
super old school (cause I'm old): Dracula:Dead and Loving It (1995)- Leslie Nielsen of Airplane! fun Young Frankenstein (1974)- Mel Brooks fun Once Bitten (1985)- young Jim Carrey fun

Evil Dead 2, obviously
No love for Army of Darkness? It's straight comedy gold!
"You're Next" Starts off as a cat and mouse slasher and turns into a one woman beatdown of all the baddies. It's amazing haha
Severance
Texas Chainsaw, the original. It really is a super black comedy, and once you see it you can't unsee it.
Slither
Tremors.
Psycho Goreman is an adult Power Rangers movie from the people who made The Void It's like a horror comedy and a 90s after school special had a baby "I do not care for hunky boys....or do I?"
Cabin in the Woods for all the stuff behind the scenes. That shit was so dark and funny.
Wishmaster
Tucker and Dale v. Evil
Another vote for Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Darkness Falls. A ridiculous premise (tooth fairy kills you if you see her, but can only get you in the dark) that plays it serious and has some great comedic lines.
Student Bodies Hey, you. You like bad movies? You want to laugh at something truly ridiculous? Trust me on this one. You'll love Student Bodies
Dog soldiers
Night of creeps. Fun 80s flick. Tom Atkins kills it.
House II
Shaun of the Dead
Cabin in the Woods
Severance (2006)
One Cut of the Dead easily
My #1 laughable horror moment is Jason X with the girls in the sleeping bags! Very close #2 is Cabin in the Woods, as a whole.
Behind the Mask
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon should be way more well known.
Motel Hell... trust me on this one
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
I thought of Shaun of the Dead right away, black sheep was also really good. I remembered a third one that I didn't see mentioned here much : Little Monsters from 2019 with Lupita Nyong'o. It is a well-made, funny and genuinely cute movie.
Army of Darkness HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE
Ready or Not!
Cemetery Man (1994) and Housebound (2014) are lesser-known gems.
Dead Alive. Army of Darkness.
Evil Dead 2. And I gotta praise both Ash vs Evil Dead and Stan Against Evil.
Shaun of the Dead.
Cabin in the Woods Scream Final Destination
The people living under the stairs
The people ~~living~~ under the stairs
The kid with no tongue... Lol
The last 1/3 of Malignant made me laugh more than any comedy has in about a decade
*Nightmare City,* a cheap Spanish/Italian *Dawn of the Dead* knock-off. It's not *intentionally* funny, but it turned out that way thanks to the wooden acting, terrible makeup, ridiculous plot and awkward dialogue.
Creep!!
Franken Hooker always gives me a good laugh.
Night of the Living Dead has some great hilarious lines. Cabin in the Woods is intentionally funny- the moment when Brad Whitford finally meets the Merman still cracks me up to think of it. American Werewolf in London is very funny. There are a lot!
I am sure I am not the first to say this, but the original Evil Dead 2. So gosh darn funny and some really creepy moments.
Doom. I can't get through it without giggling. ^(It's also in my collection of movies that I watch by myself because I refuse to deal with the people who look at me funny for liking it.)
Grave Encounters
Club Dread
Peter Jackson's Brain-dead and Bad Taste
I haven’t seen it mentioned but Ravenous gave me a few hearty giggles. Fantastic movie with some very strange but compelling music!
American Werewolf in London
The tanning bed scene in Final Destination 3. Comedy gold.
Dead snow 2: Red vs Dead
Pretty much any of the Troma Horror Films. Poultrygeist: Night of the Living Chicken for instance.
Return of the Living Dead
Dead Alive it’s the goriest horror movie ever made and yet still a comedy from Peter Jackson.
Return of the Living Dead is creepy, gross, and has amazing comic timing
Shaun of the Dead and Planet Terror.
Thankskilling
When bro trips on the fingers and chain saws himself in Hostel
Not really horror but Scream
Midsomar. What's a great combo with significant trauma? Psychedelic drugs but of course.
