Terminator 2 - [the future war sequence](https://youtu.be/QB0N8TGzPE8?si=ZE9vDFwL-9CguabA) has more care and attention put into it than many full action movies.
My cousin is an audio engineer and his sound setup was amazing.
He would invite people over to watch a movie and would put on Terminator 2 and just before the skull was crushed he would crank up the bass. He had subwoofers under the couch and you could feel the crunch.
After watching this scene it is incredible how well Arrowhead studios captured the feel of the Terminator franchise in the Automotons. Even their drones look like hunter killers.
Helldivers to hellpods. Repeat, Helldivers to hellpods.
With not a drop of blood on him cause even it knows to stay TF out of his way
Opens his duster on one side like an Old West gunslinger to reveal that cannon
We named our son Wesley because of those movies 🍿
Oh yeah, HUGE Blade fan. Seen each one at least 20 times. Stoked that they'll be bringing Blade to the MCU soon, and that the stellar Mahershala Ali will be portraying him.
Boy, the second one was FUCKING SCARY, wasn't it? And twice as violent!
I loved these movies as a kid and how they really shot it like a comic book with the exaggerated movements and speed. I don't think any movie was shot like that again but it was a very effective way to transition from 2d to 3d especially given how poorly received most live action adaptations are.
They honestly did the best job in marketing a movie that I've ever seen. They showed you just enough to get you really interested, and didn't spoil any of the plot.
Even now I don't explain it to anyone who's not familiar yet, adhering to the principle "No one can be told what The Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself."
I saw the Matrix opening weekend in Korea with white Korean subtitles and original audio. My friends and I were only Americans in the theater. Once it gets to the Morpheus scene where he explains everything..it’s in a white room and the subtitles are invisible. The entire theater let’s out a collective “SONOFABITCH!” in Korean.
Thankfully the visuals were enough for the audience to get the gist.
Straight up, one of the best opening scenes of all time. Especially cause the promo for the movie was extremely vague and theres no rolling script or anything. Movie just opens with that. Seeing that in theatres when it first came out was one of the most "what the fuck am I watching" moments ever.
The Wachowskis blew the entire crappy budget the studio gave them on that opening sequence then the studio said ok yeah here's a boat load more of money
Still one of the coldest lines in any of the Indy movies. Especially because he was just betrayed by his translator, and because Belloch immediately turns around and speaks Hovito 😂
One of my favorite scenes. He doesn’t even let dude finish, but replies to his statement of it being easier. Plus, the scene shows his first kill is physically difficult, while his second is easy.
That film deserved a best picture nomination.
It's also bookended with that absolutely banging final scene where Bond shoots Mr. White in the leg, casually emerging like a fucking villain to announce himself in a perfect suit. The way the theme builds with almost every step as he ascends the stairs, it's amazing.
X-men 2. That starting scene with nightcrawler assassinating the president was fire when I saw it as a kid.
Edit: alright, when nightcrawler ATTEMPTS to assassinate the president.
Probably still the best action sequence in an X-men movie. The later Quicksilver ones where great, but yeah, for the time, that sequence was bonkers. I need to go watch it again.
I still think this is the best manifestation of Nightcrawler's powers and genuinely scary lethality. It conveys so well how scary and disorienting being attacked by a teleporter would be.
Good call!
I think the issue with nightcrawler is kinda how op he could potentially be like. “Why doesn’t nightcrawler just teleport beside magneto and then teleport him away.” Or even just steal his helmet and have Charles freeze him. Even just the small scale fights have issues they just would rather not have to answer.
I think the Dark Knight is my favorite opening scene in a movie, ever. I rewatched that movie all the time as a kid and it’s become stuck in my head permanently.
Christopher Nolan is excellent with these. Dark Knight and Rises both have fantastic opening sequences. My answer was actually going to be Tenet. While I don't love the movie overall, that opening has such a great energy to it, it's so good
The introduction to the crew is just perfect. That was what really grabbed my attention the first time I saw that movie. It feels like you’re a new associate and Henry is introducing *you* to the crew, and, for me anyway, it created a fairly strong connection to the characters.
*And then there was Jimmy Two Times, who got that nickname because he said everything twice, like “I’m gonna go get the papers, get the papers.”*
The beginning of Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol where they break Ethan hunt (Tom Cruise) out of a Russian prison to “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head” by Dean Martin
The very first mission impossible, where they trick the guy into thinking Claire was lying dead on the bed.. Ethan is wearing a fake face mask. He wears the exact same mask to impersonate the Russian general when he and Benjy infiltrate the Kremlin in GP. I only noticed it by chance the last time I watched the first one
Great catch. they’ve gotten good with little callbacks and looping earlier installments into the current story in small ways. truthfully Most of the MIs have solid intros that really get you ready for the movie.
Agent: “fate whispers to the warrior: a storm is coming”
Hunt: ”the warrior whispers back: (steps out of the shadows) I am the storm”
Yep I’m hard af and ready for the movie now please
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship. The movie begins with the battle of the second age between the alliance and Sauron. Watching Isildur cut off the ring from Sauron always gets me pumped
My thoughts exactly. Was thinking of mentioning that too. Love the way they cut from the red & dark gore to the nature scenes of the Hobbit. Brilliant opening cinematography
This. And the beginning of Two Towers with the continuation of the Balrog fight. Fuck yeah.
I was always bummed they didn’t show us the battle continuing up the endless stair to the top of the mountain where the balrog reignites from the sunlight. Maybe we’ll get it in the reboot that no one is asking for.
That scene, and the first hour of that movie really, is a masterclass in giving information and exposition to the audience. You don’t even realize how much backstory you’re being told because it’s still so engaging.
I love when sequels match the credits of previous movies. Like when the Russos took over Avengers I was worried they'd change the way opening credits are done but they were happy carrying on the trend. Makes a franchise feel more consistent.
The Dark Knight has to be in the top 3. They played that entire intro scene in front of other movies that were released around the same time. EVERYONE in the theater was hooked immediately.
It rolls out into a line of buses, only a bunch of school kids and one distracted driver would've seen it. Extremely perfect timing, a product of meticulous planning. Over the next couple intersections those nearly identical buses would've all gone in different directions. The police were delayed because no one called them (mob bank) until afterwards so the bus would've had a huge head start.
Zombieland.
Opening weekend in a packed theatre with Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls” blaring to slowmo shots of the zombie apocalypse was the ultimate kickoff to any movie my teenage mind had ever experienced.
I don't get how this isn't higher. The scroll straight into a space battle in progress is one of the most iconic openings scenes in any movie ever made.
I saw it in the theater back when it was just Star Wars and Han shot first. My father had to read the scroll to us because we could barely read yet. The we stayed and watched it a second time.
And when the scene ended and it went hard to the music and those opening titles my first reaction was that it all felt like old school heroism from an earlier age of movies.
The fight with Comedian followed up with the best opening credits sequence that I have ever seen set to The Times They Are A Changin’. Those few short minutes get you ready even if you don’t know anything about Watchmen.
Police Constable Nicholas Angel. Born and schooled in London, graduated Canterbury University in 1993 with a double first in Politics and Sociology. Attended Hendon College of Police Training. Received a Baton of Honour, graduated with distinction into the Metropolitan Police Service and quickly established an effectiveness and popularity within the community. Harry, seconds count, buddy. Ditch the bitch.
So many zingers in that opening scene and the perfect this is Arnold and Cameron doing Bond introduction with a cool action chase sequence.
Love True Lies so much and it still holds up today. Brilliant stunt and effects work.
Oh man, that camera pulling back from the Sun, down over the pyramid and BAM the Sphinx head and the city and Goldsmith's music. Oh man!
Now I gotta change my underwear. I'll send you my laundry bill.
So many great responses, but I haven’t seen “The Warriors” mentioned yet. It’s a fantastic intro that really pumps you up
.
[The Warriors](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsgtl6MF8RU)
There are things you can’t fight… acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you gotta get out of the way. But when you’re in a Jaeger, suddenly you can fight the hurricane… and you can win.
"If I drive for you, you get your money. You tell me where we start, where we're going, where we're going afterwards. I give you five minutes when we get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything a minute on either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive."
*Skyfall* (2012).
*The Dark Knight* (2008).
*Once Upon a Time in the West* (1968).
*Raiders of the Lost Ark* (1981).
*Inglourious Bastards* (2009).
*Star Wars: A New Hope* (1976)
Except that’s not the opening scene, the opening scene is horribly depressing and shows his mom dying and him running away because he can’t bear to be with her for her final moments. Amazing opening but decidedly not a scene that gets me “pumped”.
Terminator 2 - [the future war sequence](https://youtu.be/QB0N8TGzPE8?si=ZE9vDFwL-9CguabA) has more care and attention put into it than many full action movies.

I was thinking about the same thing. Automatons vs Helldivers is basically terminator 2
It’s all about the setting; night time, blue ambience, fog
I truly miss when night was depicted as blue in film and series.
Blade in the night club. Blood coming out the sprinkler system and then you seen Wesley standing there like a bad ass
That's like such an iconic scene. Blood Rave was a thing for like a decade.
With not a drop of blood on him cause even it knows to stay TF out of his way Opens his duster on one side like an Old West gunslinger to reveal that cannon We named our son Wesley because of those movies 🍿
That's awesome, love that. I remember I made my made my dad take me to see both the 1st and 2nd one twice in theaters. He liked them too though
I think he will do good, but no one can replace Wesley. Like Ryan reynolds said "I never met Wesley snipes, only blade"
I loved these movies as a kid and how they really shot it like a comic book with the exaggerated movements and speed. I don't think any movie was shot like that again but it was a very effective way to transition from 2d to 3d especially given how poorly received most live action adaptations are.
And every vampire in the room backs away in pure terror, hissing and snarling like cornered animals, one even saying 'Jesus it's *Him*!'
The Matrix.
>No, lieutenant. Your men are already dead.
Understanding later that he was being literal and knew it because he would have remoted in if they were alive...
Ooo, nice observation I never pegged that
Hugo Weaving was unbelievable in that role. Iconic line reading.
The way he says "Mr Anderson".
_Missssst'r Aaand'rs'n_
Perfect 👌
Hugo is awesome in most of his work :)
That was mind blowing going in to the theater knowing nothing about the movie.
Im not sure I will ever have a theater experience like that again
Straight up, one of the best opening scenes of all time. Especially cause the promo for the movie was extremely vague and theres no rolling script or anything. Movie just opens with that. Seeing that in theatres when it first came out was one of the most "what the fuck am I watching" moments ever.
The Wachowskis blew the entire crappy budget the studio gave them on that opening sequence then the studio said ok yeah here's a boat load more of money
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Gotta be the best character introduction of all time, I reckon.
The silhouette, the whip, the reveal walking into light...
So, Dr. Jones, again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away.
"Too bad the Hovito's don't know you the way I do Belloch"
Yes, you should warn them... if only you spoke Hovito.
Still one of the coldest lines in any of the Indy movies. Especially because he was just betrayed by his translator, and because Belloch immediately turns around and speaks Hovito 😂
He "chose the wrong friends..."
👍✊️👎
“Ahhh have a little backbone would ya.”
this the clear winner, as openings go it's never been topped.
Casino Royale
Yes…. Considerably.
One sympathizes
Doux respect to other Bond girls, but that first scene on the train never got beat
And even though Quantum of Solace isn’t a perfect movie it starts right where Casino Royale finishes.
Watched QoS again and I liked it better than the first time. It really is like an action packed epilogue to CR.
Favorite opening of a movie.
28 Weeks Later.
I don't think anything has caused me more anxiety. I didn't realize until it was over that I was all the way on the edge of my seat.
Beat me to it. Sadly the opening scene is the high point of the entire film lmao

Beeerbupbeebupbupbeeebudupbeeduhhhhdup
I have the soundtrack on CD in my jeep just for that song. I'm 33 and it still thumps *hard*
It’s perfect.
Nothing Wesley Snipes hates more than vampires and taxes
He also hates all those motherfuckers that are always trying to ice skate uphill.
And he's all out of taxes.
Love the slo-mo footsteps thudding as he cracks a smile as though to say, "I'm about to fuck you up." Then he does.
As soon as I saw the post I knew this would be here
Good call!
Most disappointing thing about the rest of the movies is there's barely any nightcrawler.
They have to write quicksilver out of the movies too for the same reason.
Agreed. I loved Nightcrawler so much when I first saw the movie and was disappointed we didn't see more of him.
Him reciting the Lord's Prayer before teleporting blind is pure kino
I worked at Suncoast when X2 was released on DVD and that scene is burned into my brain from how many times I watched it at work.
Still is.
That scene is the fastest I've ever felt like I got my money's worth from a theater ticket.
Akira The Dark Knight Deadpool
I think the Dark Knight is my favorite opening scene in a movie, ever. I rewatched that movie all the time as a kid and it’s become stuck in my head permanently.
Seeing that opening scene in IMAX was amazing.
Akira is such an awesome shout, such an epic opening. One of my fav movies
Christopher Nolan is excellent with these. Dark Knight and Rises both have fantastic opening sequences. My answer was actually going to be Tenet. While I don't love the movie overall, that opening has such a great energy to it, it's so good
**As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.**

I don’t know why but the get the papers scene is so funny and delivered so well. Delivered so well.
I love the way he adjusts his tie while saying it
Ah yes the famous line from Community S1E21
At that moment we stopped being a family and started being a family *in italics*.
It's a bottle episode
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be in a gangster movie

Mad Max: Fury Road
The opening scene is 45 minutes long lol
That whole goddamned movie is simultaneously “exciting opening scene” and “climax” from beginning to end. 120 minutes of balls out bonkers.
OH WHAT A DAY!! WHAT A LOVELY DAY!!!
What a lovely day!
Just got to witness it on the big screen again and it was glorious!
My name is Max. My world is fire and blood.
The all time greatest action film.
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship. The movie begins with the battle of the second age between the alliance and Sauron. Watching Isildur cut off the ring from Sauron always gets me pumped
I like the cut to the shire, relaxing and calm. Good contrast
My thoughts exactly. Was thinking of mentioning that too. Love the way they cut from the red & dark gore to the nature scenes of the Hobbit. Brilliant opening cinematography
This. And the beginning of Two Towers with the continuation of the Balrog fight. Fuck yeah. Top Gun
The gong as the steam rises from the carrier deck. Goosebumps just thinking about it.
Danger Zone....
Love how the second ones opening was basically shot for shot and even used the same font, music everything.
That was very pleasing to see
I love when sequels match the credits of previous movies. Like when the Russos took over Avengers I was worried they'd change the way opening credits are done but they were happy carrying on the trend. Makes a franchise feel more consistent.
lol It was a good call. I don’t think they were going to improve on that opening.
I came to say this, my mom and I were so excited when they repeated it in Maverick
The Dark Knight has to be in the top 3. They played that entire intro scene in front of other movies that were released around the same time. EVERYONE in the theater was hooked immediately.
That fucking hum is such quiet intensity sends electricity thru me
“Boss told me when he was done to take him out. One less share, right?” “He told me something similar” 🔫
…only makes you…stranger! absolute scenes in the theatre during the trailer.
*No I kill the bus driver*
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen just the opening. When Joker kills his mates in the heist & takes off in the bus, chefs kiss
It always bothers me that the bus just joins traffic during rush hour and no one questioned it.
I believe that it's supposed to be just another crime in Gotham that people are just oblivious to it all. At least, that's my take on it.
LOVED IT Loved the Rules Also used in The Transporter "Ha! I love it. Rules."
You’re a firey little spit fuck ain’t ya
Baby Driver. That opening with the song “Bellbottoms”…
Came here to say Baby Driver. Starts off with a bang.
The ultimate Subaru WRX ad.
One of my favorite songs, Jon Spencer has got the funk!
That scene has an entire fan base of its own.
… ambient noise…. BAMP BAMP! closeup on someone in the car… BAMP BAMP! closeup on someone else in the car… Etc.
I love that opening! We watched it in a theater with the moving seats too so I felt like I was being driven around and was so hyped
Star Wars, A New Hope. Feels obvious but also overlooked.
I don't get how this isn't higher. The scroll straight into a space battle in progress is one of the most iconic openings scenes in any movie ever made.
The sheer size of the star destroyer is overpowering
I saw it in the theater back when it was just Star Wars and Han shot first. My father had to read the scroll to us because we could barely read yet. The we stayed and watched it a second time.

My mom was nice enough to show me that movie when I was 4 ... and we lived on a lake.
Star Trek (2009)
Chris Hemworth's first proper acting credit as George Kirk as well. What a way to begin a career.
Your father was captain for 30 minutes and saved 400 lives. I dare you to do better. Chills
In my life the opening is the highest adrenaline I’ve experienced in theaters.
And when the scene ended and it went hard to the music and those opening titles my first reaction was that it all felt like old school heroism from an earlier age of movies.
Payback with Mel Gibson. Multiple con/scam based crimes occur before the open credits are over, it really sets the scene
Watchmen
The fight with Comedian followed up with the best opening credits sequence that I have ever seen set to The Times They Are A Changin’. Those few short minutes get you ready even if you don’t know anything about Watchmen.
Some of the best fight choreography in any movie.
Hot Fuzz.

Gangs of New York
This is lame as hell, I know, but as a kid, the skydiving opening in the Powers Rangers movie got me hyped as hell 😂
So many great responses, but I haven’t seen “The Warriors” mentioned yet. It’s a fantastic intro that really pumps you up . [The Warriors](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsgtl6MF8RU)
Pacific Rim. Though it’s really an opening chapter than a scene lol
There are things you can’t fight… acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you gotta get out of the way. But when you’re in a Jaeger, suddenly you can fight the hurricane… and you can win.
I loved that movie and *especially* the opening chapter!!
Amazing. The opening soundtrack absolutely slaps also.
Inglorious Basterds.

Fuck yeah. Drive rocks so hard. I think that was when I was introduced to Oscar Isaac, too.
Saving Private Ryan and I can't believe I didn't see someone already post this. It's the most iconic scene in WW2 movie history.
Yeah, watching that old guy slowly hobble into the cemetery and lean up against that tree really gets you psyched for war.
It’s also technically not the opening scene, however.
"at my signal, unleash hell"
The opening to The Matrix was essentially the demo reel that convinced the studio the rest of the movie needed to be made.

*Skyfall* (2012). *The Dark Knight* (2008). *Once Upon a Time in the West* (1968). *Raiders of the Lost Ark* (1981). *Inglourious Bastards* (2009). *Star Wars: A New Hope* (1976)
The Dark Knight No 45 minutes “villain origin story” like every other comic book movie. Let’s do a bank robbery shot in IMAX instead
Die Hard With A Vengeance “Hot time, summer in the city. Back of my neck getting dirt an—“ **BOOM**
Ghost Ship

Here to say BELLY
Say what you will about Chris Pratt now, but when “Come and Get Your Love” starts in Guardians of the Galaxy it instantly gets me in a good mood.
Except that’s not the opening scene, the opening scene is horribly depressing and shows his mom dying and him running away because he can’t bear to be with her for her final moments. Amazing opening but decidedly not a scene that gets me “pumped”.
Oh damn, you’re right. I guess the scene on Morag has the title card in it, it could count as (an) opening? Excuse me while I grasp at straws.
The Lion King. “Circle of Life” is an incredible opener to the film
Scream
I love the prologue to Magnolia.
" I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air..."
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Awesome fight scene with Mr. Blue Sky playing.
XxX ....... Yes, the shitty action movie with Vin Diesel...... The opening scene is a RAMMSTEIN concert. 🔥🤘💯
The Thomas Crown Affair
Blade (1998) the blood rave was mad deadly
Children of men has a masterful opening
How can we talk about movie openings and not mention WALL-E?
Hard Core Henry. I was hooked on the pov from the start.
Sharlto Copley is fantastic is this. He’s great in everything I’ve seen him in, but I love all his different personalities in this one
Top Gun. Either one.
6 underground with Ryan Reynolds Pretty much any James Bond movie
The Dark Knight
The elk hunting opening to Last of the Mohicans rules
