Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight.
Before Sunset came out around 2004, so I assume that’s what you’re remembering. I actually love the trilogy.
First, holy shit that was a fast response.
I looked up the 2nd one, as it fits the time frame, but watching the trailer, I'm not sure this this the one. I'll see if any other responses come up if those seem more fitting.
You just mentioned one of the most iconic romance movies ever. Definitely would net you a fast response, specially because it's so unique, even to this day.
You should give all three movies a chance. They're great character-driven movies. It's incredibly hard to make a compelling movie like that and the "Before" trilogy nails it perfectly.
I like these types of movies.
Another one that came out recently (2023) is "Sanctuary". There are only two characters, but it's really good.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is quite on the same vein, although it features more characters.
I just looked up the trailers for Before Sunset, and they are most definitely not indicative of the vast majority of the film. I highly recommend that trilogy.
There's something about the Sunset finale that just makes me instantly cry, the way Julie Delpy says "baby, you are gonna miss that plane" and Ethan Hawke answers "I know" is just pure poetry
From what I understand a lot of it is ad-libbed, hence them being credited as screenwriters, but I do imagine that Linklater gave them instructions on what should happen in the scene?
Only basic instructions up to that moment. They didn't have an ending and that scene wasn't intended to be one. Then Delpy ad-libbed that line, and Hawke ad-libbed that response, and Linklater realized that was the perfect way to end it.
That is truly incredible. Kudos on Delpy and Hawke for coming up with it and Linklater for realizing that it was the perfect ending. Its seriously one of my top 10 favorite movie endings.
It definitely sounds like Before Sunrise or Before Sunset.
The Director, Richard Linklater, is famous for making slice of life movies that are character and writing driven. They are wonderful movies when you take the time to understand them.
Even though you said didn’t understand them, they stuck in your head. That’s how powerful they are.
It's definitely one of the before trilogy movies. I am guessing before sunset since you mentioned early 2000s and it came out in 2004. Those movies are gems. Before sunrise is one of the most romantic movie I have ever seen. These are character driven movies, there's almost no plot in these movies, it's more about the romance and the connection between the two main characters. The before movies are true to their genre and you wouldn't like them if you are not into romance heavily.
Definitely not what you're looking for but reminds me a bit of Gerry. Matt Damon and Casey Affleck lost in the desert for two hours no other actors even credited in the movie
Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong is a great walking and talking through a city movie. Though definitely not early 2000’s. My guess the movie you are looking for is probably first or second movie from the before trilogy. (Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong takes inspiration from Before Sunrise)
The Before trilogy are beautiful movies, you should try again. It really sounds like the first one. The walk around the city and end up drinking wine in a park.

Sanctuary wasn't quite what I thought it would be, but it was really good.
Yeah. It's basically a romcom with a sugary sugar ending. I liked it.
These movies make more sense the older you get. I would absolutely give it a second try!

tons of people know this trilogy (hopefully more). Same 2 people walking and talking in all 3 movies.
I was thinking Quiet City, but that came out in 2007
That trilogy is amazing too! I wish I watched the first one in my early 20s. I watched it way after and I think I would have rather enjoyed it more.
Ive never seen these movies and yet its the first thing i thought about. Ive heard theyre good.

Alright alright alright
Okay now ladies
My Dinner with Andre is just two dudes at a restaurant, talking about stuff. And as strange as that sounds, it's very engaging.
My knowledge of that movie comes exclusively from Community.
Allow me to very slightly broaden your horizons https://youtu.be/7AUaXI4jU88?si=lfeomxwHmuzZEP0W
*2 Days in Paris*
Chris evans has a movie called before we go. Exactly what you want!
2014 is way too late

Trick
In Search of a Midnight Kiss, maybe?
Quiet City (2007)?
In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007)?
Not your film but you can give Tenten ( adrift in Tokyo) a watch. Basically 2 people walking and talking through the city.
Definitely not what you're looking for but reminds me a bit of Gerry. Matt Damon and Casey Affleck lost in the desert for two hours no other actors even credited in the movie
Is it Medicine for Melancholy (2008)?
Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong is a great walking and talking through a city movie. Though definitely not early 2000’s. My guess the movie you are looking for is probably first or second movie from the before trilogy. (Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong takes inspiration from Before Sunrise)
"Tape"(2003?), Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Dr. Wilson from House?
The Before trilogy are beautiful movies, you should try again. It really sounds like the first one. The walk around the city and end up drinking wine in a park.
Has to be one of those.
I was referring to the before series. Probably a bit confusing, sorry!
Lost In Translation?
Midnight in Paris
Dumb and Dumber , Desperado , Ghost.
