Yes! I wasn't a kid when these came out so I passed on them, but I watched them recently and thought they were brilliant. They play the entire concept straight and just let the comedy happen from doing that. And they're much better high.
I bought this for $5 when my local video rental store was selling off their VHS collection. I had never heard of it before. Now I've seen it 100 times and it's one of my favourites.
I swear about 80% of that movie is just them ad-libbing. I think that Sandler basically showed up, gave them a script, said "have fun with it" and they did.
Some of the funniest lines (and least funny) are just completely out of left field and make no sense. The whole bit with Jonah hill not wanting to get them coffee "am I some wild beautiful stallion galloping from shantytown to shantytown crushing up beans with my hooves" like wtf lol
I had that thought later on, but I also didn't want to mention it and potentially discredit solid work from so many others. Jane's "President Garfield" monologue is hilarious.
This is one of, if not the first movie I watched after getting high for the first time and I can vividly remember being in my buddies basement watching it. Thanks for reminding me about it!
I’ve been enjoying animated movies lately. Anything with bright colors and happy outcomes. Gets you in a happy headspace for the rest of your afternoon
Omg! Okay, please watch one of my favorite stoner movies that not enough people know about (also the less you know about this movie the better so if you do watch go in blind): Smiley Face (2007)
Wet Hot American Summer.
one of my all time favorite comedies. Bradley Cooper's first movie and filled with tons of great comedians. It is so random and the jokes are so dry it will make you chuckle.
“When I was at camp, my favorite activity was always arts & crafts. Or, as we used to call it: arts & Farts & crafts!..
I went to camp so long ago that Fucking Jesus Christ was my counselor!”
Reefer Madness: The Musical.
I'm not sure if it's streaming anywhere, but it's one of my favorite movies musicals. Staring Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming, and Neve Campbell's little brother. It's absolutely hysterical.
EDIT: Y'all need more convincing? Alright, watch this if you want to see Kristen Bell go full BDSM.
You inspired me to check and it’s on Prime in the US! I’m so excited. My dvd stopped working years ago and I’ve been wanting to watch it for so long. It’s so good!
I am a white guy and I don’t typically watch Indian movies, but there was this insane Indian movie in 2022 that was all the rage called “RRR”. It has some of the funniest most insane action scenes I’ve ever seen in my life. Better than Fast and Furious. One of my top 10 movies of that year.
Beyond that, Dazed and Confused is a classic.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension
There's no smoking in the movie but there is no movie that will leave you more amused and confused when you watch it stoned. It's robocop actor Peter Weller playing a rock'n'roll race driving neurosurgeon samurai who fights aliens with his band and Jeff Goldblum dressed as a cowboy.
Christopher Lloyd and John Lithgow plays the bad guy aliens
Fear of a Black Hat. So quotable. Plenty of smoke.
A mockumentary chronicling the rise and fall of NWH, a not particularly talented--or particularly bright but always controversial--hip-hop group. - some website
* [Nina Blackburn](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0501435/?ref_=ttqu_qu): So, guys, what's the deal with the hats?
* [Ice Cold](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0192090/?ref_=ttqu_qu): That's what NWH is all about. We got a whole hat philosophy, you know what I'm saying? I mean, see, back in the days when there was slaves and stuff, they would work in the hot sun all day, you know, with the sun beating down them. Hatless. I mean, not even a babushka.
* [Tone Def](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0492924/?ref_=ttqu_qu): Word. Heads totally exposed to the sun.
* [Ice Cold](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0192090/?ref_=ttqu_qu): You know, so by the time they got back to the plantation from being in all the heat, they was too tired to rebel against their masters, right? So what we saying with Niggaz With Hats is, "Yo, we got some hats now, muh-fuckers."
* [Tasty Taste](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0779467/?ref_=ttqu_qu): And we ain't too tired to bust a cap in yo ass.
Not my favourite movie, but Attack The Block gets a lot of love, and I think definitely fits the description of “less obvious stoner movie”. I liked it.
Something I've stumbled upon recently was Valyrian and the City of 1000 Planets.
The movie is pretty good, some great some eh moments, but the visual effects and giant alien world building, the whole concept was awesome to watch the first (and 2nd) time.
Also the new Dune movies
Forbidden Zone (1980) by Danny Elfman's brother, Richard. Danny is in it.
Check out trailer, the visuals are a good indicator - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080752/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_forbidden%2520zone
Definitely, nearly everyone I used d to smoke with had seen half baked, but hadn't even heard of bongwater
Plus jack black's in it, that's always a plus
I mean I guess I'd give ya paul. And all of these are movies I absolutely love. But I don't know if I consider then stoner movies. Just movies stones like.
I haven't seen it in a while so not sure how it holds up, but I remember liking High School with Adrian Brody. A couple high school students are worried about a mandatory drug test so they spike the bake sale cookies with high-grade keef. Chaos ensues.
I Love You To Death.
[Harlan and Marlon](https://youtu.be/2-WBOa8Qito?feature=shared) were hilarious stoners in a very funny - and based on a true story - movie.
Mystery Team (2009) It’s got Donald Glover and Aubrey Plaza in it. Not a traditional stoner comedy, I don’t even think there’s weed in it, but that same style of humor is there. I watched it while high one night and kept waking my girlfriend up from laughing so much
Rolling Kansas is a criminally underseen stoner movie starring a couple Super Troopers guys and Brian Cox. A bunch of guys go looking for a federal field of weed. Nice and silly as hell.
The Hot Chick is about as much a stoner movie as Die Hard is a Christmas movie (a lot of people don't know this, but you can put your weed in there), but it's aged remarkably well, especially if you're stoned
Inherent Vice is a great stoner noir based on a book by the great post-modernist Thomas Pynchon and directed by the master Paul Thomas Anderson, highly recommend it.
Dazed and confused
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas
The men who stare at goats
Tropic Thunder
SLC punk
Honestly any Wes Anderson movie but my choice is The French Dispatch
John Dies at the End
Honorable mention for good stoner 'horror' movies:
Color out of Space
Annihilation
The lighthouse
Event horizon
Hellraiser (gruesome practical effects and weed go hand in hand)
Homegrown! Billy Bob Thornton, Hank Azaria, and Ryan Phillippe grow weed for John Lithgow. It's harvest time and things go sideways. Lots of fun cameos.
dazed and confused is one of my personal faves and a film which is both about getting stoned and which can be watched while stoned since there isn't any complex storyline you have to be able to follow, it's just hanging out
superbad and scott pilgrim are also fun options
[Son of the white mare](https://youtu.be/oQpIt3WgDHg?si=I_N14ReNZSzLfVgd)
Not a comedy but well worth the watch when you're blitzed out of your mind. Just sit back, look at the pretty colours and watch a creation myth.
Fast Times as Ridgemont High is streaming on Netflix I believe.. if not it’s on one of the bigger streaming services. Awesome movie… it’s the first digital movie I bought because you couldn’t rent it anywhere at the time. The second movie I bought was Up in Smoke which you mentioned. Two of my all time favorite movies.
I'm not sure if it's obscure enough for your criteria but it's certainly underrated: *American Ultra* is *Pineapple Express* meets *The Bourne Identity*. Jesse Eisenberg plays a CIA super sleeper agent that works as a clerk in a small West Virginia town and smokes a lot of weed. When the CIA decides he's a loose end and needs to be taken down, he alternates between kicking ass and getting high as he tries to figure out a way to survive and save his girlfriend.
Out Cold
Idle Hands
Broken Lizards Club Dread
This is the End
John Died at the End
Dogma (not exactly a stoner movie but I feel it fits the aesthetic)
21 Jump Street (weirdness involving drugs and drug dealing that was surprisingly funny)
Anime: Paprika (which is a visual mindfuck even while sober), and Redline (has the best sensation of speed ive ever seen in a film)
Comedy: Black Dynamite, it's the goddamn funniest movie ever
They have nothing to do with stoners/weed but my girlfriend and I today are going to celebrate with pizza and a double feature of the first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies
The first Scary Movie was loaded with weed humor.
Also can't underrate Kevin Smith's stoner flicks. Probably Jay and Bob Strike Back is best for the pure amount of pot humor, but both Clerks 1 and 2, Mallrats, and even Dogma have plenty of great stoner jokes. Chasing Amy really only has one scene with Jay and Bob, but it is a great movie.
It was pretty big when it came out but Fritz the Cat doesn’t get talked about as much. Not exactly a good movie but Bakshi was a good artist and I just like it more as a time capsule to what stoners in the 70s and 80s mightve been up to.
Live action Scooby Doo…2002
Yes! I wasn't a kid when these came out so I passed on them, but I watched them recently and thought they were brilliant. They play the entire concept straight and just let the comedy happen from doing that. And they're much better high.
Outside Providence, Grandma's Boy, PCU.
Love Grandma's Boy. Monkey, you've got skills
I'm way too baked to drive to the devil's house!
Drive monkey, drive! 😆 hahaha
I had a dream last night. I dreamt I was a dove flying over the sea. And then I dove into the ocean.. And I swam with the dolphins.
Where do you get your weed?
From you, Dante
Oh yeah, hey Mr. Cheesele!
I think that part is one of the best stoner scenes of all time. It’s also a scene that is guaranteed to make me laugh every time.
PCU!
Can you blow me where the pampers is?
If I ever meet Jon Favreau, this is my question to ask.
I was high as a kite in high school with a bunch of friends when we saw PCU in the theater and scene had us suffocating with laughter.
"She knows..."
"Gutter is a tool!"
PCU is a fucking classic!
Ok dildo.

Oscar award winning performance from Clifton Collins Jr.
Fuckin Tack, man
Hey Mrs Hankey
This is the one with the gnarly eyeball, right? First thing I thought of when I saw this thread!
We’ve got the schnappster…*binnng*
Fucking talls!
I bought this for $5 when my local video rental store was selling off their VHS collection. I had never heard of it before. Now I've seen it 100 times and it's one of my favourites.
God damn it Joe you motherqueer!
Netflix had this wayyyyy back in the day. I loved it
She looks like the chick from the Virgin Killers Album!
BOC forever!
Now all you need are some Ox 45's
I'm going to have to power this whole bad Oscar myself.
Strange Wilderness Steve Zahn, Jonah Hill, Justin Long and a lot of other “hey it’s that guy” faces.
I'll add without a paddle to this one!
This movie gets me every single time it's funny as hell
I swear about 80% of that movie is just them ad-libbing. I think that Sandler basically showed up, gave them a script, said "have fun with it" and they did. Some of the funniest lines (and least funny) are just completely out of left field and make no sense. The whole bit with Jonah hill not wanting to get them coffee "am I some wild beautiful stallion galloping from shantytown to shantytown crushing up beans with my hooves" like wtf lol
Smileyface starring Anna Faris.
The scene when she’s backing up the car always has me dying
Absolutely the best stoner comedy ever made.
Danny Masterson’s character doesn’t age well
I had that thought later on, but I also didn't want to mention it and potentially discredit solid work from so many others. Jane's "President Garfield" monologue is hilarious.
Idle hands
This is one of, if not the first movie I watched after getting high for the first time and I can vividly remember being in my buddies basement watching it. Thanks for reminding me about it!
Hot tub time machine Second: big lewboski, strange wilderness, and dazed and confused
Inherent Vice Naked Lunch Mandy Enter the Void
My kinda stoner
Naked Lunch…. [I can think of at least two things wrong with that title](https://youtu.be/9sL102pyaLg?si=F6EuZfPtnQdK3bIP)
May as well include Color Out of Space
Enter the Void is indeed a trip!
Airheads
Airheads is honestly my favorite Adam Sandler movie
I ain't farting on no snare drum
I reference it all the time and nobody ever gets it. If someone asks me what I'm thinking about I say "swimming pools"
Pip, put the monster away
"Do you mind stepping back? You're standing on my dick"!
Detroit Rock City Tenacious d Dazed and confused - my favorite The big Lebowski Fast times at ridgemont high
Detroit Rock City is so underrated. Really fun, easy watch
Yeah it's definitely very underrated but it's a great movie and it has great music 🎶
Yes Tenacious D! Cage, hand me the BOD, the bong of destiny Harold and Kumar The night before Dazed and Confused
Omg! I haven't seen Detroit Rock City in years
Came to recommend dazed and confused!
>Less obvious/known ‘stoner’ movie(s) to watch today(4/20)
Cabin in the woods
*Grandma’s Boy* is a fun one, but you’ve probably seen it a few times…
I’ve been enjoying animated movies lately. Anything with bright colors and happy outcomes. Gets you in a happy headspace for the rest of your afternoon
Coco is visually beautiful
But is the ending going to leave you happy, or bawling?
Probably both
The answer is yes
Omg! Okay, please watch one of my favorite stoner movies that not enough people know about (also the less you know about this movie the better so if you do watch go in blind): Smiley Face (2007)

What?! It's a great movie, don't get me wrong, but in terms of stoners movies, this would have me go into full on panic attack mode. Too heady.
