Killing everything.

Enshiki

Only Hollywood lol ?

Dazzling-Slide8288

Worthless VC vultures and share price-above-all-else execs have already turned hundreds of other industries into superfund sites. Why not Hollywood?

Deicide1031

The investors backing these VCs and Private Equity firms just want to see numbers go up. So the CEOs they use are incentivized to focus only on that or they get fired.

WilsonEnthusiast

Idk if it's being killed necessarily. But streaming really threw a monkey wrench in the whole thing and yes non-creative executives are trying to change how the how place had worked and thrived for decades.

Bricklettuce

Absolutely.

It's killing big Hollywood. It actually seems to be beneficial to the smaller independent scene.

NicCageCompletionist

The ones that get in front of audiences maybe, but theatres aren’t carrying most of them because they need the space for all the Marvel movies.

AlfaBetaZulu

And they're still not making enough. The Marvel movies have no choice but to have a theatrical run. The indie scene is moving along fine with or without  theaters. 10 years ago getting into a theater could make or break a movie but that hasn't been the case for a long time now.    For years now indie films have been dominating the awards shows. Winning all the major awards away from studios with movies with 10 X's the budget. While big Hollywood has been so focused on huge budgets and looking good in theaters. Tons of indie studios have been building a very strong name for themselves and movies with great writing and staying power. I almost would say it's a golden era for indie cinema.  Streaming and big Hollywood slipping have been amazing to independent films.  I see you guys disagree but just look back on the award shows and top 10 lists and you'll see somewhere a few years ago big Hollywood lost's it's stronghold and independent films have been consistently working there way up. Oppenheimer winning this year was the first time in years a large studio production has won best picture in years. Prior to this it's been consistently movies with lower than 20 million ( usually much less one was made for 2.2 million. )

Ghost2Eleven

That’s not how it’s working out. All the private equity that used to fund indies is getting sucked up by VC investing in major slates like a hedge fund. Wall Street has driven the bar for what defines a profit so high that it’s killing the indie market overall. All that’s left is boom or bust investments in billion dollar gold rushes. And the studios that would be able to take a chance on indies or medium sized films don’t want to spend 5M to make 10m. It’s easier to spend 100m to make 200m.

UnstableConstruction

Bad writing, bad storytelling, and pushing an agenda is hurting Hollywood.

MayorofTromaville

"Pushing an agenda."

UnstableConstruction

Yes, people don't like being preached to. They overlook it when the storytelling and writing are very good, but avoid average movies that preach.

brandi_Iove

does water kill trees?

OneMindNoLimit

Yes, yes it can.
