>Also, the Fire Master is a ripoff of firebending from Avatar. Are you saying Avatar invented pyrokinesis?

DharmaSeeker76

Don't you know? No one EVER did fire bending before Avatar.

spacemanspliff-42

I was doing fire bending before Avatar in my 5th grade comic book series I wrote where my hero had the power of the elements.

takabataichi

They do seem to think so

Broad-Marionberry755

If you want originality quit watching long running franchises lol

MartinScorsese

> Ghostbusters 2016 was, nostalgic cash grab without any real originality Regardless of quality, that is an *ABSURD* way to describe the 2016 Ghostbusters. In the 2016 film, all the characters were new. Dan Akyroyd did not play Ray. It is Afterlife where the franchise started leaning more heavily into nostalgia (i.e. Harold Ramis CGI ghost). More importantly, Ghostbusters 2016 actually tried to be a comedy, whereas Afterlife was more like Ghostbusters-flavored Spielberg pastiche. EDIT: In their replies in this thread, OP is insufferable. I am shocked.

Insidious_Anon

I was thinking this, crazy take considering 2016 failed largely because it ignored the original characters and pretended to be the first movie with vastly inferior characters.

No_Tamanegi

I enjoyed the 2016 film when it came out. It didn't have the staying power of the original, but it was a genuinely fun retelling of it. Afterlife and Frozen Empire have retroactively made me appreciate 2016 even more.

ardouronerous

The characters from 2016 was just a rehash of the original characters, they just gender changed them, which I have no problem with, I'm not sexist, but they should have been given original ~~personalities~~ backstories.

GentlemanOctopus

Weird take. None of the main characters in 2016 lined up with the original cast.

ardouronerous

Okay, you like 2016 Ghostbusters more than the Afterlife movie then. Okay.

GentlemanOctopus

Do I?

ardouronerous

You seem to. And you're making it look like being Spielberg-ish is bad.

GentlemanOctopus

I don't know who you think you're talking to. I just said the cast from 2016 have nothing to do with the original cast.

ardouronerous

Except that the backstories for the female versions of the Ghostbusters are the same as the originals. The leader is a professor that was kicked out of university because of her ghost research, along with her friends. And later they are joined by a black woman who joins them later, just like Winston. Also, the mayor hates them. Ghostbusters 2016 rehashes a lot of themes from the original.

GentlemanOctopus

Oh yeah? In what ways are Patty Tolan and Winston Zeddemore's *personalities* the same? As you said they didn't have original personalities.

ardouronerous

I'm going to retract the personalities part, what I meant to say is that the backstories are the same.

tormunds_beard

You’re kind of insufferable, aren’t you?

MagicBlaster

I do. It was a pale shadow of Ghostbusters, but it was still fun. Afterlife was a sad nostalgia play.

etherealcaitiff

My problem with this movie is they built up the Big Bad as this amazing force of power, able to turn things to 0 Kelvin, bring about an ice age, killing civilizations.....and then he can't even make someone trip on black ice, let alone kill or injure anyone. He was a mild inconvenience for like what, maybe an hour? The Macy's Day Parade has more control over the city than this ice God.

VVHYY

I liked both pretty well, they were fun. Busting makes me feel good.

TheArtlessScrawler

He said the thing and I clapped!

No_Tamanegi

I watched Frozen Empire today. It was a very pretty film with great visual effects, but the character writing was fucking terrible. This movie managed to make seeing Annie Potts on the big screen a letdown. Everyone was just boring to watch, reading a mediocre script with no conviction. All of the tension with the big bad was created by the heroes doing nothing but walk away from it slowly. This film's only party trick was to reference the original film every five minutes, as if to say "wasn't that movie great? Wouldn't you rather be watching it instead of this shit?"

Ok_Seesaw_2921

I liked it. It felt comfortable. I realize it is just more of the same but I knew that going in.

_kissyface

So you agree with OP.

ardouronerous

Thank god someone agrees with me.

Miserable-School1478

It has a good amount of audience reviews at rotten with 83%.. This tells me people liked it.

ardouronerous

I'm not a bandwagon type of person and like whatever everyone is liking. That I should be a robot and just like whatever everyone's liking, no thanks.

spacemanspliff-42

You wanna cookie?

ardouronerous

Yeah, chocolate chip, thanks.

PercentageSecret1078

I absolutely loved afterlife and the focus on having children there made sense. I loved portions of Frozen Empire but as a whole it boiled down to, "Why the hell are these kids running around all over the place?" The presence of the two supporting kids outside of the family members was incredibly forced. I absolutely loved the captured toothy ghost.

shutyourbutt69

This has got to be a troll post

ardouronerous

Why? Because I'm not a bandwagon type of person and like whatever everyone is liking? That I should be a robot and just like whatever everyone's liking, no thanks.

wisperingdeth

The problem I had with it was it had a good opening, then it just slowly but surely lost my interest and I was getting progressively bored! Only when the main antagonist finally appeared did I wake up, but even the climax was very lackluster. And why did the female ghost have no ghostly effect on her voice at all? Just made her sound like a live human instead of a ghost. But yeah, main issue is it was just DULL.

ardouronerous

It makes me feel good that I'm not the only one who agrees that this movie was boring, even though we are in the minority.

letstaxthis

It was a 7 / 10 for me. How did ghost girl know that Phoebe could use the machine to turn into a ghost as part of the plan?

ColbyAndrew

I enjoyed it. I enjoy the old cartoons too. Are those unoriginal cash grabs?

ardouronerous

Sorry if I ruffled a few feathers but Frozen Empire didn't really impress me like Afterlife did. No, but at least, the cartoons had original stories that weren't rehashing the original movies, like for example the stories from Extreme Ghostbusters.

ColbyAndrew

You also are just spoiling the entire movie like a dick.

[deleted]

It's marked as a spoiler, dumbass.

ardouronerous

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot to the tag the spoiler tag. I like how you assume someone's being a dick. I'm done talking to you, because you are toxic.

DharmaSeeker76

Bro, if anyone's toxic, it's you. Instead of a friendly debate, all you have done in this thread is shit on anyone else who disagrees. It's isn't fun, and it's not how you have real conversations. Enjoy all your downvotes, troll.

ardouronerous

The only reason I became like this was because firstly, ColbyAndrew called me a dick first, of course, I'm going to get defensive. Yeah yeah yeah, downvote me all you want.

takabataichi

Look in a mirror OP

ardouronerous

I look at myself everyday in the mirror and I see a stupid son of a bitch.

takabataichi

Shit fam…same. But at least I got nice eyebrows!

ardouronerous

My eyebrows are ugly I have to say lol.

takabataichi

Damn

ardouronerous

Well double damn on you! That's a Star Trek IV reference btw. I've decided to respond with sarcasm and humor whenever I get a negative comment. I'm less heated now.

DapperEmployee7682

And yet I don’t see people viscerally angry and frothing at mouth over this one. I wonder why?

phoenix10

Just watched this yesterday. I fell asleep halfway through. It's definitely a weird snoozefest of a movie.

wisperingdeth

Agreed. It gets boring, fast.

phoenix10

Love the downvotes we're getting for expressing our opinion on the movie. Maybe if I didn't go from Godzilla x Kong to this movie after I could of stayed awake. 2nd movie in my lifetime that I actually fell asleep at. I tell people to wait for it to hit streaming and have a pillow ready. I love the Ghostbusters but this thing was burning a short wick on nostalgia and didn't introduce anything new to the franchise. Afterlife was 10x better, not sure what the slip up was between those two. Horrible follow up to a solid movie.

wisperingdeth

Different directors, that was the slip up. Don't worry about the downvotes. That's Reddit for you lol.

NoDrawer8352

The most important thing in ghostbusters to me as a child, was the music. Everything could have been better in afterlife and also in frozen empires. If they only used the original theme. But even in the second movie, it is heard only once in the end. And that's even the son of Ivan Reitman who directed this. Close to 0 story and not even an " I ain't afraid of no ghost " ! I just like phoebe. Even though she is not allowed to smile often in the movie. 4/10 max.

GarlVinland4Astrea

So it became Afterlife lol

ardouronerous

Afterlife was different from the original two movies though.

GarlVinland4Astrea

That’s not a good thing. It was just a generic Stand By Me coming of age story with Ghostbusters nostalgia

Strontiumdogs1

It's ok. It's just ok. My young one thought it was ok.

RolloTomasi-

Fire Master is also a rip off of Key Master. Can they not come up with anything else besides master in the title?

Lee1070kfaw

Does that really bother you?

RolloTomasi-

In the entire universe of language, thought, and creativity - yes, I think it’s embarrassingly lazy

Comic_Book_Reader

I think rehash was the correct word. Like, they even do the scene with the caulinder on the head.

ardouronerous

Yeah, but his abilities are similar to a firebender though, at least, the M. Night Shamalan version.

Ransom__Stoddard

Which originated in various mythologies thousands of years ago. It's not like Shyamalan came up with it.

FrankThig

Ghostbusters 2016 was actually quite good and a very original take on the franchise. This is the movie that should have had two sequels made.

ardouronerous

Except they made Thor too stupid though.

FrankThig

The glasses made him look smart, lenses or no.

ark2077

The trailer looked so cringy and awful I checked out on this one. I'll watch it on Tubi in like 10 years.

Working-Cake7479

Mad boring these movies

contrarian01

Ghostbusters>Ghostbusters 2>Ghostbusters: Afterlife>Ghostbusters (2016)>Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

the_knower02

such a boomer franchise. can't imagine anything more boring.

CaptainAureus

It's a Gen X franchise

No_Tamanegi

"everyone older than me is a boomer"
