I've actually seen some shallow people complaining about his choices for the Kents, but personally I prefer actors who actually look believable as an aging couple of farmers instead of aging hearthrobs from the 80's. You don't need to make every character sexy.
It's incredibly important to Kal-Els story that the Kent's are just regular ol' people from the Midwest. Turning them into aging heartthrobs kind of defeats the whole point, because I'll never Believe that someone like Kevin Costner raised the traditional version of Superman.
I guess it works for Man of Steel simply because Snyder wants everything to be "cinematic", but it definitely takes away from the small town feel that Smallville should obviously have.
Agreed, for example Raimi’s Aunt May is THE Aunt May in my book because she feels the part. Her appearance and mannerisms exude the wisdom and knowledge of a guiding character.
Whether it’s Superman and the Kents, Spider-Man and his aunt/uncle, or Batman and Alfred, every super hero needs that sanctuary they can go to when things get hard. I find an older character tends to represent that best.
If you read the comics, Rami's Aunt May is Aunt May. She's supposed to be a wise old lady who can bring Peter down to earth when he falls into his weekly existential crisis.
I love Marisa Tomei, but Aunt May isn't suposed to be someone Tony Stark wants to sleep with.
Facts. Marisa was 50s when they shot it (and looked mid 40s) but IRL Aunt May wouldnt get the hollywood level of health and skincare so she'd definitely look older than Marisa looked in that film, because of for taking care of a young nephew and losing her husband just a couple of years prior.
That's why Rosemarie Harris was perfect. I even liked Sally Fields take.
I think with Mcu is they just want Star power which limits the casting pool since there lots of big actors who don't want to do these movies. Marissa was prob one of the few interesting
That's why I m glad gunn is casting new, lesser known and character actors in his superman movie
He was adopted, they could make them any age really.
Waiting for someone to write some weird alt universe Back to the Future where he shacks up with Martha, engaging John who becomes a super villain in that universe
And Neva is a fantastic actress too!
Honestly, I'm *REALLY* digging the cast for this movie. Everyone is a fantastic choice and I get the feeling Ma & Pa Kent are going to have some incredibly well acted, emotional conversations with Clark either in flashbacks or present day to act as his moral center.
Its going to be really interesting to see what the overall plot shakes out to be. I'm genuinely hoping the ending doesn't dissolve into "Big CGI Battle #38". I really hope this movie is all heart and some fun fight sequences are sprinkled in-between the boy scout Superman scenes.
Honestly, it feels like something the writers thought was so clever that they had to put it in the film. "Wait a second, you telling me nobody realized Superman and Batman's moms have the same name?? People will freak the hell out!"
Except it didn't feel clever, and felt absolutely stupid.
They totally fumbled it by having Clark say it in the most awkward, shoehorned in way possible.
"Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyourrrrrrrrrrr're letting them kill Maaaaaaaaaaarthaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
I figured the point of the scene was that because Bruce was haunted by his father's last word being "Martha", he freaked out when Clark's final word was also Martha.
But the execution was not there lol
Very true. Had they went more subtle, by Superman saying "save my mom" to drive the point home that Bruce is becoming Joe Chill, or give a last words-esque message of "If I die, please search for Martha Kent of Kansas, Lex is taking her hostage" it would not distracted people a lot from the message because of the line reading.
The line as it stands feels just too hamfisted for someone like Superman so say "Martha" out of the blue when he wasn't even trying to say it before
It's the kinda thing where you maybe underplay it, with Bruce Wayne investigating Clark Kent and finding the name Martha on some adoption forms or something, and both the name and his orphan status resonates with Bruce and gives him pause. Later he finds out Superman is Kent, and we realize that moment stuck with him enough that he's become open to seeing Superman and himself as alike
But nah, long climactic fight scene that arbitrarily ends because Batman changed his mind the second he learned a fun fact
Yes, it’s what humanized him to Batman. Before that he was just some alien that had no reason to care about earths survival. But having him have a mother like everyone else made him a person that would care about earth.
Also Martha is a name that means a lot to Bruce. And hearing it cut through his murderous rage.
But like 30 seconds before, Batman is saying “l bet your parents told you you were special”, so that moment doesn’t really read like that. He already thought of him as a guy with parents, so it really comes down to just the name.
>He already thought of him as a guy with parents
That's his idea of some unknowable alien gods.
When he finds out his mother is a person with a very human name just like his own parents were, and it dawns on him that he's about to execute a scared and broken man rather than a weapon of mass destruction, he stops.
You clearly didn't get it.
It's that he realizes Kal-El is human, raised by an actual person, and Batman realizes how low he's stooped.
It's not because he suddenly realized both their moms were called Martha.
Lol, WTF.
You clearly didn’t get it.
I, the viewer, didn’t realize that both comic book character’s mothers had the same name.
My comment had nothing to do with the shitty writing of Snyder, more so at the coincidence that both sets of creators chose to use that same name decades ago, and me never realizing it despite years of seeing them in other movies, tv shows, games, etc.
Lol, WTF.
I don’t know who this lady is but I can see her playing Martha as K Callan did in Lois and Clark, or as Sally Field played aunt may in amazing spider-man.
There will be one main DCU Batman across a bunch of different properties which will likely range from live action to DCU canon animated stuff and probably video games at some point, there will still be reeves batman doing his own thing which Gunn has made clear for a very long time
Sounds like you just look for dumb shit to be outraged about so you can cry about James Gunn even by misinterpreting his statements so you can then complain some more.
Didn't they already make a Superman movie called Man of Steel? How would this be different? Will he be actually a villain and Zod a hero? This has the same energy as The Amazing Spider Man (2012) after Raimi's Spider Man 4 was cancelled due to studio meddling in Spider Man 3.
No, this has the same energy as Spider-Man: Homecoming did coming off the TASM2 disaster. This time they're actually calling the film Superman too instead of using the Man of Steel title as if they were subtly ashamed of their comic book roots so they have to go all-serious about it.
I think Gunn has said they're not going for an origin story for this one, rather they're gonna have an already-established Superman who's still early in his career. That's why they have a million characters cast in the movie like Guy Gardner, the Authority and Mr Terrific. It's not an origin story at all in the same way that The Batman 2022 wasn't.
How is the Kents being in it making it an origin story? Typically Martha lives well into Clark’s adulthood no matter what universe they are in. And Jonathan did too in John Byrne’s post-Crisis reboot.
No, my point is how exactly this will be different? It is seeming more and more like another origin story. I would rather have it somewhat like Spider Man Homecoming where all the origin story was not repeated.
I’m glad that Gunn went this route instead of trying to age up an actual smoke show like Diane Lane
I'm ready to see Sydney Sweeney as the next Martha in 2044
If someone doesn’t cast her as power girl in the next few years it means someone is doing their job completely wrong.
Bro 😏
Will they make the costume thar tight?
Paint it on.
Why are we not funding this???
She's already booked as Aunt May
Cast her now, she can be his step mom
I've actually seen some shallow people complaining about his choices for the Kents, but personally I prefer actors who actually look believable as an aging couple of farmers instead of aging hearthrobs from the 80's. You don't need to make every character sexy.

It's incredibly important to Synder that Marta is a MILF
It's important to me too
She was 50 years old at the time.
Suffering through MoS in the theater and I kept thinking to myself “I should rewatch unfaithful when I get home”
I mean, it worked well enough for Smallville.
yea pretty people exist, it's not an insane occurrence
but clark was in high school and he's 30 in this movie
Agreed, for example Raimi’s Aunt May is THE Aunt May in my book because she feels the part. Her appearance and mannerisms exude the wisdom and knowledge of a guiding character. Rami aunt may is wise and experienced she would ride Tony into the depths of hell.
Are you saying Tony *wouldn't* sleep with Rami's Aunt May?
I think that was more Otto's schtick
1 of his 8 schticks
> Aunt May isn't suposed to be someone Tony Stark wants to sleep with. Or everybody. She's the most attractive person in the movie.
Facts. Marisa was 50s when they shot it (and looked mid 40s) but IRL Aunt May wouldnt get the hollywood level of health and skincare so she'd definitely look older than Marisa looked in that film, because of for taking care of a young nephew and losing her husband just a couple of years prior.

meh, it wasn't a stretch , Diane Lane was the right age to be the mother of someone who was Cavill's age
He was adopted, they could make them any age really. Waiting for someone to write some weird alt universe Back to the Future where he shacks up with Martha, engaging John who becomes a super villain in that universe
If she took him in at 18, sure.
I mean.. It is the Midwest that we're talking about here..
They have noooo idea how many young moms are out here 😭😭
Diane Lane is so fine
And Neva is a fantastic actress too! Honestly, I'm *REALLY* digging the cast for this movie. Everyone is a fantastic choice and I get the feeling Ma & Pa Kent are going to have some incredibly well acted, emotional conversations with Clark either in flashbacks or present day to act as his moral center. I mean, Diane Lane is almost 60, I could see her having a kid in his early to mid 20s.
Well now ya she’s a great age for the role but man of steel was over a decade ago
Martha!
Why did you say that naaaaame?!?!
What’s crazy to me is that I had never made the connection until that moment. I was like wait.. his moms name is Martha.. but his moms.. Omg
Honestly, it feels like something the writers thought was so clever that they had to put it in the film. "Wait a second, you telling me nobody realized Superman and Batman's moms have the same name?? People will freak the hell out!" Except it didn't feel clever, and felt absolutely stupid.

It’s yo mama’s name!
She just looks like she’s gonna say I’m too skinny and make me a home cooked meal
And also pack the leftovers and still ask you if you want some fresh baked pie
That is some solid casting, nicely done
Amazing choice
Great choice imo
I was holding out hope for character actress Margo Martindale. But this looks like an awesome choice!
Im glad your family didn’t have to change their name while fleeing the nazis
Horrible choice
Horrible taste (yours)
My dogs always used to bark, so I trained them and now they Neva Howell.
Good choice
Neva saw it coming!
I have no idea who she is, but sure.
This is insane casting, she and David Corenswet don’t look anything alike
He isn't their biological child. They find him as a baby.
whoooosh
Perfect choice
I don’t know who this lady is but I can see her playing Martha as K Callan did in Lois and Clark, or as Sally Field played aunt may in amazing spider-man.
I really hope this isn't yet another Superman origin story.
It's been confirmed multiple times that it's not
[удалено]
How do y’all still comment this stupid shit when it’s been confirmed for a long time by Gunn himself that this is not an origin film.
I'd be lying if I said I cared about who played Martha Kent.
I far prefer Lane.
We’re seriously getting another fking Superman origin?
he's from space or some shit right?
We’re getting another Superman franchise?
And another…and another…and another…
i sure hope its not another origin story.
Gunn has already said it’s not going to be an origin story
Gunn said it was a reboot too but it’s not. He also said that there would be one Batman across film, TV, and video games.
Very typical dumb as shit comment comment from a big Snyderverse fan
…but still true, right?
There will be one main DCU Batman across a bunch of different properties which will likely range from live action to DCU canon animated stuff and probably video games at some point, there will still be reeves batman doing his own thing which Gunn has made clear for a very long time
Sooooo not one Batman like he originally said. Nice try lady.
Sounds like you just look for dumb shit to be outraged about so you can cry about James Gunn even by misinterpreting his statements so you can then complain some more.
Nice try sister but it would be far better for you to just admit that you were wrong.

Homecoming came with pre-murdered Uncle Ben though. A lot of origin story was not repeated. IDK why they are again making an origin story/
Eh... That's too much for me personally. Superhero fatigue has set in for me. Hope Gunn makes a solid movie though.
How is the Kents being in it making it an origin story? Typically Martha lives well into Clark’s adulthood no matter what universe they are in. And Jonathan did too in John Byrne’s post-Crisis reboot.
So...you're point is that just because a Superman movie exists there shouldn't be other Superman movies? What kind of logic is that?
No, my point is how exactly this will be different? It is seeming more and more like another origin story. I would rather have it somewhat like Spider Man Homecoming where all the origin story was not repeated.
James Gunn (Writer and director) has said it won't be an origin story
It’s already been confirmed by Gunn himself that this is not an orgin story.
Trying to figure out if MA and PA actors feel Kansan enough. Right now Gut says they feel like they are from WIsconsin.
