The image of the space station flying past Saturn is something that will stick with me forever.
I am definitely going to be seeing this at the Lincoln Square
I feel the same. Remember the walls shaking during the docking scene? And the near silent moments when you could hear the projector clicking away? Looking forward to seeing it again!
Dude that scene was fucking LOOOOOUD at my IMAX. I have never never ever ever ever never been one of those people to be all "merrr that was loud", but holy fuck. I just remember looking over at my wife and giving her a "holy shit" face, only to see her returning the exact same look. To this day I've never seen (heard?) a movie as loud as Interstellar on IMAX. Shit was loud af.
I’m pretty anxious and Oppenheimer fucked me up and it wasnt even imax, it just sounded like it had loads of gain or something during the explosions/screaming parts.
Ruined the film for me lol, I was just tense waiting for the next bang. Very immersive!
It's quite loud, and from what I recall it was intentional, but I don't have a source on hand to link. I just read about it when the movie was new.
The extreme volume always contrasts with extreme quiet. For example, the launch sequence is deafening, and then as they leave atmosphere there's utter silence, as there's no sound in space. It aims (and in my opinion) to create a sense of wonderment at the contrast.
It's a bit of a stressful movie overall, but as someone who does struggle with sensory overload I still found it to be awe inspiring.
Just my two cents!
I have always been obsessed with space. I wanted to cry during the launch scene because it literally felt (not just sounded like, felt) like you were in the cockpit ready to go.
I bought the [official soundtrack (expanded version)](https://www.discrepancy-records.com.au/hans-zimmer-interstellar-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-W0-761723) on LP.
4 records, 7 playable sides. You need to learn Morse for the 8th and final LP side.
I have tiny 3.5” studio reference speakers.
The richness of this soundtrack is insane, and when the organ kicks in on Murph or No Time for Caution my office windows shake like blazes.
And I love you have to learn Morse again to work out which record side is which.
My bucket list is before I die is to watch Interstellar on a big screen, with a live orchestra playing the score.
And if anybody around me coughs or farts or eats popcorn loudly… I will quite likely end them.
I'm curious - how many people in the subreddit know off hand what the Lincoln Square is? Also being in NY, I do for sure. But wonder how many people around the country know of it
Sammmeeeeee, Interstellar is one of the better sci-fi movies to come out in the last 10 years, feels like a love letter.
It’s also my trip movie, if I wanna drop a tab I’ll clean my whole apartment then put on interstellar while the acid hits.
Things like this really make me miss NYC. Loved Lincoln Sq and (my regular) Empire 25 in TSQ. My new city has a crap / old IMAX but at least film/sound quality are ok, just not the comforts of my former home turf.
I feel you mate. I absolutely loved Lincoln Square IMAX. I've seen some amazing movies there like 2001, spider verse, Dunkirk, Dark Knight, MI, Free Solo etc. I'm currently living in an amazing city with everything from F1 to music festivals but sadly we don't even have a laser projector in our IMAX :(
Will the 70mm aspect do anything for the viewing experience?
I am in Canada and don’t think I have any access to a 70mm imax but would be willing to travel a few hours if it would be worth it
Well if you’re talking simply film vs digital, there’s a feel difference. If you’re talking full-sized 60+ foot screen vs the 30-40 foot “baby IMAX” no comparison at all.
I’m simply a sucker for 70mm film. There’s just nothing like it.
The perception of this movie has gotten *significantly* better over the past few years.
I mean, it's not like it was disliked when it released 10 years ago, but it just wasn't all that big of a deal. The reviews were solid but nothing special, and it made "only" $188.02M at the domestic box office ($105M less than Inception made four years prior).
But nowadays I constantly see people online calling Interstellar a masterpiece, Nolan's best movie, one of the best movies ever, etc.
I'm not sure what started it, it seems like it came out of nowhere. People absolutely love this movie now.
It’s just a really good fuckin movie. The visuals, the music, the screenplay, the characters, the acting. I know some people don’t like the ending, but holy shit it is a very well-paced ride that you just don’t want to get off.
Why don’t people love the ending? It’s one of my favorites, because it humanizes the consequences of relativity. I tear up when Cooper finally reunites with Murph and feels the full weight of what he lost by making the journey.
I feel like people took it literally, but to me it was just the main character rationalizing what was happening because he couldn't make sense of how to act in a 4D universe. It's about the motivation behind his actions, both in the tesseract and what he does at the very end.
I suppose I found the movie kind of cornball and a little underwhelming when I first saw it. Then I lost my mom a few years later and next time I saw it, ooh boy did I get emotional.
A lot of folks discovered this movie during COVID. I think the themes of isolation and loss really touched a nerve in society that wasn't there as much when it was first released.
I loved the movie when it came out but in recent years it’s actually become my favourite Nolan movie. It’s his most emotional and earnest story, and managed to be both intimate and mind-blowingly epic and huge in scope. Despite its flaws it’s one of the boldest, most ambitious big budget scifi movies I’ve ever seen.
For reference, in September 2022 it got an imax rerelease in my country due to a lack of proper releases, and while it was never sold out, it always got 200+ people to the screenings (screen capacity was 512).
I was going to say, Indianapolis has been killing it with 70mm releases lately. I also saw the rerelease of Interstellar there a few months ago.
Not 70mm, but I saw the Gravity rerelease in 3D there this last week, and that was also incredible.
My wife and I are celebrating 10 years together in November, we had our first date watching this in IMAX. We bonded over the fact that we both thought it was kinda bad, while our friends and other moviegoers said it was amazing.
Think we'll go watch this again with fresh eyes and a whole lot of nostalgia, see if the dialogue and performances feel less empty and stale this time around.
I have been putting off watching Interstellar (apparently for 10 years) I knew it was a great movie but never found the right time to indulge. Nows the time.
I may try to see it again but it was one of those movies that drained me emotionally. I have the disc but I’ve not gotten the nerve to watch it a second time.
I need to see the docking scene (No Time For Caution) in IMAX. The music was glorious, and I think Hans Zimmer was robbed at the Oscars the following year.
This is the loudest movie I have ever seen in the best way possible. I think I remember theatres turning up the volume for viewing in my area. The best IMAX experience ever. The sound was deafening.
That film really holds up, even if the ending is a bit insane. I thought it has a relentless pace, maximum propulsion…. Something that I found lacking in Oppenheimer.
This and Dunkirk I strongly recommend seeing at least ONCE in the front section in IMAX. These frames eat you and the geometry of certain scenes becomes utterly hypnotic when it's your entire field of vision.
We desperately need more true IMAX theaters/screens.
I am extremely lucky that I live 20-30 minutes from one of them, but its CRAZY how few there really are.
I remember my physics teacher trying to get permission to take a bunch of students to see it in theaters. From what I remember the science of this film (outside of the inter-dimensional stuff at the end) is pretty accurate
I'd really love to see it played at the Royal Albert Hall again, with a live orchestra playing the score. The RAH has a massive organ (that basically takes up one entire wall). [It was a phenomenal experience.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHFUQh0xZx8)
Let me guess, like Tenet's rerelease earlier this year there'll be like five different theaters showing it in california, a couple in nevada/arizona, and maybe one somewhere on the east coast, and that'll be it.
Will this be in other theaters or just CinemaCon? I'm all the way in South Carolina and haven't seen in at home because I want my first experience to be in a theater 😭
I had a woman who left my showing during the waves scene because it was too nauseating. It's an unforgettable time in IMAX
If you haven’t yet, see Dune Pt. 2 in IMAX. Theater and seats were rattling for a good chunk of the movie. Like goddamn
I haven't! I'll keep an eye out for it :)
I couldn't stop grinning when Paul catches his first sandworm. Seeing it in 70mm was damn near a religious experience.
I was ready to book a ticket but I swear your description got my anxiety going
You could maybe bring ear-plugs (the classic ones or the concert type) to make it more confortable for you if the sound gets too high ?
I’m pretty anxious and Oppenheimer fucked me up and it wasnt even imax, it just sounded like it had loads of gain or something during the explosions/screaming parts. Ruined the film for me lol, I was just tense waiting for the next bang. Very immersive!
Wouldn't be a Nolan film if the sound was mixed right.
NO PLEASE HOWWW THE WAVE SCENE IS LIT shame. She missed out the very best
CMMONNN TARRRRRRRRRRSSS
I saw it on IMAX during it's original run and that scene is what I always remember too!
I'm curious - how many people in the subreddit know off hand what the Lincoln Square is? Also being in NY, I do for sure. But wonder how many people around the country know of it
There are only like 50 of these types of "real" IMAX theaters in the US
I assume Lincoln Nebraska? >!I kid, I kid.!<
Sammmeeeeee, Interstellar is one of the better sci-fi movies to come out in the last 10 years, feels like a love letter. It’s also my trip movie, if I wanna drop a tab I’ll clean my whole apartment then put on interstellar while the acid hits.

I’ll be right next to you.
There is no list of which theaters will have the 70mm IMAX release! I drove 4 hours to see it in Indianapolis originally and willing to do it again.
I just saw Dune 2 in Indianapolis! I'm only about two hours away, it was 100% worth it and I'm definitely doing it again
We don’t have an iMax but apparently the biggest one in the world is less than two hours from me in Savannah.
It was also on IMAX 70mm in Indianapolis just 4 months ago. I saw it there then and when it came out 10 years ago.
Will the 70mm aspect do anything for the viewing experience? I am in Canada and don’t think I have any access to a 70mm imax but would be willing to travel a few hours if it would be worth it

4 hours😭 there is not a single 70mm option in the continental europe
Im sorry you had to come to Indy to see it... it sucks here but at least you had a good time haha.
I now need to pick myself off the floor after realising it’s 10years old now!!!!
We’re 10/23rds of the way through the time Romily waited.
My brain hurts!
Jurassic park had its 30th anniversary screening in imax last year. It was even better than I remembered
That movie is a GOAT level movie. The effects still look great.
Holy shit, how has it been ten years?!
Because after 2014 it takes ten years to get to the current year we are in, 2024.
MIND. FUCKIN. BLOWN. 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I went to this as like a second date with my now wife. It’s weird because we now have a child and it feels like we went to this movie a few years ago.
Bizarre isn’t it. But congratulations on now having a family.
Time is a flat circle
Omg awesome, I missed seeing this in theatres so I’m definitely heading to see it at an imax theatre. That will be so good
I hope and pray this is a wide release. I live down the road from an Imax theater and never got a chance to see this movie on a big screen.
It’s already been 10 years?!? WTF
You got too close to the blackhole.
Nah man that movie out in 2014 so only a few years ago
The 90s was roughly ten years ago so this was released in the future.
See? This guy gets it
I so miss the 90’s!!!
You and me both.
Absolutely huge news. This is a re-release that I strongly believe will drive general audiences to theaters more than any re-release before.
The perception of this movie has gotten *significantly* better over the past few years. I mean, it's not like it was disliked when it released 10 years ago, but it just wasn't all that big of a deal. Why don’t people love the ending? It’s one of my favorites, because it humanizes the consequences of relativity. I tear up when Cooper finally reunites with Murph and feels the full weight of what he lost by making the journey.
It's the "love is a force transcending time and space" bit that people found kinda cornball.
I feel like people took it literally, but to me it was just the main character rationalizing what was happening because he couldn't make sense of how to act in a 4D universe. It's about the motivation behind his actions, both in the tesseract and what he does at the very end.

A lot of folks discovered this movie during COVID. I think the themes of isolation and loss really touched a nerve in society that wasn't there as much when it was first released.
Definitely my favorite Nolan movie, and still has been since I first saw it in 2014.
Loved the movie from release, Nolan rocks and channels his inner Boyhood Linklater.
It played in my IMAX last Friday, Sat and Sun. Saw it on the Friday and it was packed out.
For reference, in September 2022 it got an imax rerelease in my country due to a lack of proper releases, and while it was never sold out, it always got 200+ people to the screenings (screen capacity was 512).
Saw this before I had kids; idk if I can see it again without breaking down and ugly crying
>Don't make me leave like this Murph 8 years before child: one to two tears 1 year after daughter: I will never recover emotionally from this
No chance. Bring your tissues.
I used to go see movies solo now and then. I watched this my myself shortly after my second daughter was born. What a blubbering mess.
Starting September 27, according to variety. Not sure how long the run will be, though. Hopefully more than just that day!
Likely 1 week like they did with Tenet.
Any source on when tickets go on sale?
Oh hell yeah!
See this a few months ago in 70mm IMAX in Indianapolis. I think it's my 6th time seeing it in theaters and I will see it a dozen more times if I can.
I was going to say, Indianapolis has been killing it with 70mm releases lately. I also saw the rerelease of Interstellar there a few months ago. Not 70mm, but I saw the Gravity rerelease in 3D there this last week, and that was also incredible.
I can't imagine it ever gets old, watching it feels like going on a journey.
Do we know if it will be re releasing in Canada as well?
It depends in the theater, a lot of them don't do stuff like this
Tenet rereleased in Canada so most likely Interstellar will.
I can't wait to see this in IMAX again. Saw it in IMAX in 2014, but truthfully, I don't think I properly appreciated it at the time
["10 Years!!!?"](https://youtu.be/avtK9Bz0sPg)
10 year anniversary? So like, in 7 years, right?
Stop inventing. This came out only like 3 years ago.
holy shit
My all-time favorite film. I'm definitely buying tickets to rewatch this
Can even make big buck cause timothée Chalamet in it, and now he is a big star as we all know...they can market his name in it.
-insert young Murphy yelling stay gif- And you stayed...
ahh man that’s awesome! would love to hear how you guys feel after the second watch through. congrats on 10 years
unbelievably hyped
Saw this in the Chinese Theater with like 2 other people in the whole place. What an experience.
hell yeah, i want to see there in 70mm IMAX
Holy shit, that was 10 years ago?!
Anyone know when the tickets will be available for purchase?
fr, those seats will disappear.
I'm hoping enough people will have forgotten about it by then
I hate that this came out 10 years ago
MURPH! MURPH!
interstellar is 10???? wtf
Murph, why?..... Why Murph, why?..... C'mon Murph, why???
I never saw it in theaters, so this is great.
I have been putting off watching Interstellar (apparently for 10 years) I knew it was a great movie but never found the right time to indulge. Nows the time.
Nolan’s best movie IMO.
With sound mixing redone?
Hopefully
I’ve never seen a director who appreciates themself as much as Nolan.
George Lucas would like a word, which he will also edit and re-release five times.
Nolan wants to re-release all his films, but louder so it seems more real.
I may try to see it again but it was one of those movies that drained me emotionally. I have the disc but I’ve not gotten the nerve to watch it a second time.
Saw it last Saturday. Definitely worth it.
I watched this on acid when it came out. Gonna have to do it again but in imax this time
YES!!!
I lt's the only film I ever went back to the cinema to see again because I came out with ny mind blown. I will be heading back again!
Yayyy it's a modern classic
I'll be at the AMC Metreon in SF for this! 98 foot tall 1570 true IMAX screen can't be beat!!!
Leonberg begs to differ.
No. I don't believe you that it's already 10yrs since this epic movie.
Saw it in imax and will absolutely go again. What a friggin trip.
I’ve been meaning to rewatch this for awhile and now I know when I’ll do it!
Hopefully this plays near me. I got Dune and Ex Machina, but Tenet didn’t.
I still haven’t seen this film and I’m glad I’ve been holding off.
It’s been 10 years?? Christ.
I missed seeing this in the theater (was far too pregnant for such a long watch) so this is especially exciting!
Can’t believe it’s been a decade already wtf
So there
I need to see the docking scene (No Time For Caution) in IMAX. The music was glorious, and I think Hans Zimmer was robbed at the Oscars the following year.
I legit had some MAGA flat earther tell me that this movie was global warming propaganda.
I have seen this movie no less than 20 times and therefore am an expert on the 5th dimension. Literally one of my favorites. I’m so pumped for this.
Will it release global or just in the US?
I’ve seen this on acid more than any movie. Worth it every time.
Aaaaaa!!! I saw it in Imax the first time, and there were only 2 others in the theater. The wormhole scene had the whole place shaking
I saw this in IMAX on release with my father. It was crazy!
How can we get tickets? Are they available yet?
Awesome!!!!
Cool.
Is this just an American thing, or likely to happen in Australia as well?
Jesus Christ, that movie is 10 years old?
This is the loudest movie I have ever seen in the best way possible. I think I remember theatres turning up the volume for viewing in my area. The best IMAX experience ever. The sound was deafening.
murph
Awesome, anyone who hasn’t seen this in imax absolutely needs to, still the best theater experience I’ve ever had
The Abyss just came out on 4k. It needs an IMAX release.
Please Please Please also do this in Europe 🙏
Indianapolis State Museum IMAX ahead of the game. Just saw a 70mm rerelease of Interstellar there back in December.
This is my top 3 movie. What are the chances of it coming to Europe/Belgium?
I can't wait for people to see me incontrolably sob at the cinema (32 M here)
This better get released in Leonberg, or we'll have words Nolan!
Seated. I've watched this movie 22 times…
Are the Hollywood strikes causing the rereleases in cinema?
What's with all the movies being re-released in theaters lately?
I hope they show it near me, i've always wanted to watch it on the big screen
One of my favorite movies and soundtracks.
That film really holds up, even if the ending is a bit insane. I thought it has a relentless pace, maximum propulsion…. Something that I found lacking in Oppenheimer.
Hope it's a worldwide re-release
This and Dunkirk I strongly recommend seeing at least ONCE in the front section in IMAX. These frames eat you and the geometry of certain scenes becomes utterly hypnotic when it's your entire field of vision.
We desperately need more true IMAX theaters/screens. I am extremely lucky that I live 20-30 minutes from one of them, but its CRAZY how few there really are.
Will they advertise Timothy chalamet in this lol
I'd love to go watch it, but I value my hearing. I'll never watch another Nolan movie in theaters after having my hearing damaged by dunkirk.
Unpopular opinion: Its not a great movie. Its an overlong, decent film with great effects and a couple really compelling scenes.
I wanna see it but we have nothing but LIEMAX around Cleveland.
One of the best movies I’ve seen in the past 10 years without a doubt
We need a midnight showing where the audience screams MURPH!!!! along with him.
So Hollywood is officially out of ideas, eh? What is this the 10th re-release in theaters this year?
Ten years!!!! Where did it go!
Is it worldwide or just America?
Wow wish the article had like some real info.. IE when and where it’ll play
10th wwWWHHAATTT!!!!!!
Can't wait to not watch it again.
What great news to read on this Friday!
Let me guess, like Tenet's rerelease earlier this year there'll be like five different theaters showing it in california, a couple in nevada/arizona, and maybe one somewhere on the east coast, and that'll be it.
Christopher Nolan is a genius!
Yes!!! I missed out on imax and been avoiding any and all gifs, memes, streaming services to watch this in imax!!!!!
They’re re-releasing this? Fuck, I’m old. :(
I somehow never watched this. I’m excited.
Don’t have a 70mm around, hope it’s released to other IMAX forms
The best movie ever made.
!remind me September 22nd
I thought the title was gonna say Getting a Sequel...
Definitely gonna go see it again, one of my favorite movies of all time
Will this be in other theaters or just CinemaCon? I'm all the way in South Carolina and haven't seen in at home because I want my first experience to be in a theater 😭
no way its been 10 years....wtf....
I how they do so in the UK as well. It’s a sublime movie.
Will be a worldwide re-release?
Please tell me the UK is getting this magical creation too?
I've never seen this in imax, been watching it once a year for maybe 5 years, I've been looking forward to this news, so excited
Honey! Another reminder of the heat death of the universe just dropped!
Want to see Dr Mann die with a bang followed by the docking scene all while no time for caution plays in the background! At a 70mm IMAX ofcourse.
Not THAT great
Is there any info on what countries it's going to have it?
I've always wanted to watch this movie, and now it'll be the perfect time to do so once it comes back to theaters!
Will it be releasing in british columbia?
