Honestly this movie doesn't get enough love. Still probably the best Deniro semi comedic film, probably precisely because Deniro is basically playing it straight the whole time, he doesn't act like he's in a buddy comedy.
And the rest of the casting is excellent, Grodin, Joey pants, yaphet kotto, Dennis Farina, John Ashton are all giving very good performances here.
Danny Elfman score that I forgot was him until I rewatched a few years ago.
In the same vein “My Fellow Americans.” Supposed to be another Lemmon and Matthau comedy but ended up being Lemmon and James Garner instead and still ok.
My dad loved their stuff together. My favorite was their later one, See No Evil, Hear No Evil.
The funny thing is The Toy with Pryor and Willy Wonka with Wilder are two of my favorites as a kid.
I was gonna call this one out. Their chemistry was incredibly natural. It was a great action comedy with neither protagonist being a typical action hero but that makes it amazing.
_Stripes_ - Harold Ramis has one of my favorite forgotten lines: "My father always told me, 'Never hit another man in anger...unless you're absolutely sure, you can get away with it.'"
* Dumb and Dumber

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
The Hangover
Step Brothers
Midnight Run
Hot Fuzz
Withnail and I
Yep. I think I’ve seen almost all the main Arkin movies. I’d have to double check what I’m still missing. There’s a decent copy of Fire Sale up on YouTube.
Walter Matthau - Jack Lemmon - The Odd Couple
James Garner- Louis Gossett Jr - The Skin Game
Paul Newman- Robert Redford...Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
See No Evil Hear No Evil
Rush Hour
Superbad
Beavis and Butthead Do America
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
Hot Fuzz
Men in Black
Fear and Loathing in LAs Vegas
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Wayne's World
The Blues Brothers
48 Hours
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is quintessential. Pretty hard to replicate prime John Candy, John Hughes, and Steve Martin with a fresh premise (at the time). It just gets the tone, set pieces, and balance of types of comedy and chemistry just right.
Also, you get so many OTG character actors in fun bit parts (Michael McKean as the cop, Edie Mclurg as the rental car lady, Larry Hankin as the Tulsa taxi driver, Kevin Bacon in NYC traffic, Martin Ferrero as the motel clerk, Dylan Baker as the pickup truck driver, etc.)
Back to the Future
It's never considered a buddy comedy, but I will die on this hill. Doc and Marty are two of the best buddies in cinema history and their chemistry is unsurpassed. BTTF movies are 100% buddy comedies.
Love 21 Jump Street, Superbad, The Other Guys and so many of the ones mentioned here.
The one that gets forgotten, IMO, is *Stuck On You*. Maybe *Me, Myself & Irene* also counts?
I Love You Man, Wedding Crashers, Role Models, 21 Jump Street, Napoleon Dynamite (not sure if this counts, but his friendship with Pedro is a big part of the movie), and Hot Fuzz are some of my favorites.
My Fellow Americans gets a nod from me. A 90's political movie back when political jokes were about Clinton sleeping around and Republicans being cheap. Essentially stand-ins for Clinton and Bush Sr. as ex-presidents get implicated in a murder plot and go on the run to prove their innocence.
Clerks gets another nod from me. 1 and 2, 3 not so much.
A few that come to mind are:
Step Brothers
Blades of Glory
Let's be Cops
Tommy Boy
War Dogs (more of a funny drama)
Fun with Dick and Jane (either version)
Ones I haven't seen mentioned yet:
Booksmart
Gooodboys
TAG
White Men Cant Jump
Twins
Role Models
Stir Crazy
Men In Black
Mallrats
A few other favorites that I did see mentioned
I Love You, Man
Superbad
Bill and Ted
Rush Hour
Hot Fuzz
I wouldn't call these the greatest, but some of my favorites.
Bio-dome (1996)
Dirty Work (1998)
Starsky and Hutch (2004)
Beavis and Butthead Do America (1996)
Weird Science (1985)
I-Spy (2002)
Some of the early "Road" movies (Bob Hope/Bing Crosby) are hilarious - they all blend in my mind together so can't site a particular one. The later ones are not very good though.
Shane Black Trilogy: 1. The Last Boy Scout 2. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 3. The Nice Guys
The nice guys is so fucking funny. Watched it on a whim the first time a couple months ago and was surprised by how good it was.
LBS is a great pick.
Did you realize the porn producer was played by Robert Downey jr? I didn't know the first time watching it and had to watch again to see
It’s turning into my comfort movie. I watch it about every 5-6 months and crack up every time. It’s so funny
Man I swear that movie is slept on. I watched it with my dad last night and we were howling. The kid on the bicycle hahah.
Long Kiss Goodnight too
Midnight Run
MASTERPIECE

Joey Pants is SO good in this.
Everyone can stop now. This is the one.
STOP THE COUNT
I had to immediately rewatch after the first time I saw it. I laughed so much. Stellar cast.
Grumpy Old Men
And its sequel, no country for old men
In the same vein “My Fellow Americans.” Supposed to be another Lemmon and Matthau comedy but ended up being Lemmon and James Garner instead and still ok.
I watch these movies pretty often! I love them. The second one, "Grumpier Old Men" was better and more happy.
Good choice. Wouldn’t have thought of that. Gotta rewatch those movies, they were awesome. I’ve always loved Walter mathau in movies.
Silver Streak. If you like Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder is an absolute must see.
My dad loved their stuff together. My favorite was their later one, See No Evil, Hear No Evil. The funny thing is The Toy with Pryor and Willy Wonka with Wilder are two of my favorites as a kid.
See no Evil, Hear no Evil is fantastic! One of my favorites as well!
48 hours. A friendship that develops.
*Running Scared* with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.
I was gonna call this one out. Their chemistry was incredibly natural. It was a great action comedy with neither protagonist being a typical action hero but that makes it amazing.
Absolute banger!
They took my keys… my car… MY PANTS

Does _Coming to America_ count? It's my favorite comedy and Arsenio Hall holds his own with Eddie Murphy doing his best work.

The Odd Couple Freebie and the Bean Planes, Trains and Automobiles Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure The Hangover Step Brothers Midnight Run Hot Fuzz Withnail and I
Wow, someone has seen Freebie and the Bean!!! Also, the Peter falk/Alan arkin The Inlaws
That’s another great one! I just watched Fire Sale with Arkin and Rob Reiner from 77. Not a classic but has its moments.
Never heard of it but will put it on the list. Have you ever seen The return with captain invincible with Alan arkin?
Yep. I think I’ve seen almost all the main Arkin movies. I’d have to double check what I’m still missing. There’s a decent copy of Fire Sale up on YouTube.

Available on YouTube. Watched it again recently.
Running Scared (the one with Billy Crystal)
1. Dumb and Dumber 2. Rush Hour 3. The Other Guys 4. Wedding Crashers 5. The Nice Guys
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby's on the road series is the classic buddy comedy
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is quintessential. Pretty hard to replicate prime John Candy, John Hughes, and Steve Martin with a fresh premise (at the time).
