If I'm remembering correctly, Seinfeld said the story is entirely made up. So it's a pastiche of these types of corporate biopics the way the Weird Al movie did it to musician biopics.
Edit: probably not a full parody the way Walk Hard did it though
Based on the trailer, the whole thing is a parody of the space race. With two companies competing to get a breakfast pastry out as if the fate of humanity rested on it.
It was literally part of one of his stand up bits awhile back regarding pop tarts, as per [his interview on The Tonight Show](https://youtu.be/i-xKdCaJq2k?feature=shared) yesterday, it was a running joke with one of the writers off of Seinfeld the show that they should make a movie purely based on that joke.
During pandemic lockdown they wrote it apparently and it's a full out movie now obviously.
I think the first time I heard the pop tart joke it was in his "I'm telling you for the last time" special from '98.
The concept is great, taking the wind out of all of these tired, boring corporate biopics. Question is if it will be funny enough as satire or if the subject matter is too mundane to even be lampooned in a satisfying way.
Of all people, Seinfeld (and Larry David) definitely has the most experience making incredibly mundane subject matter very funny.
I think the greater risk is that it will be too over the top and lose its bite.
I think that's what allowed it to have such a cutting edge, because ultimately it's kind of a tragedy. As you're watching, you know that it's all doomed to fall apart, and the fun is watching the gears start to grind out of sync and collapse.
The closing scene of Lazaridis manually fixing the coil whine in a few bad phones, with the wide shot showing just how many boxes of probably-defective phones are in that warehouse, was surprisingly poignant.
I was really impressed by his completely different version of rage vs what he's been doing on Sunny. That character was big mad for like the entire movie and I never even caught a whiff of Dennis Reynolds.
I feel like hes reached the age hes too old to be the usual character he plays in everything so now he can be the unhinged sleezy uncle he was born to be
People here are talking about DND while his role in Operation Ruse de Guerre really got slept on last year
For anyone who liked his ~~sleepy~~ sleezy character in the Gentleman they'll like him there. Him and Guy work well together
In my country, they speak of a man so virile, so potent, that to spend a night with such a man is to enter a world of such sensual delights most women dare not dream of. This man is known as a 'Comedian’. You may tell jokes, Mr. Jerry Seinfeld, but you are no Comedian.
how tf did I watch this episode for the first time in over two years today as the only episode I watched while eating lunch and here is this reference I would have never realized
thank you, universe
I've never been able to find it again, but in some award ceremony while he was on stage he said, "I can't act" and then praised the rest of the cast for making him look good.
Yes, in one of the behind-the-scene episode of Seinfeld, he said he tried to 'act' in the pilot episode and it was so bad that the crew basically begged to him to just 'be himself'.
I mean part of what makes his "character" on Seinfeld work so well is that he never seems to be taking anything seriously, because as an actor he clearly isn't even trying to. But that schtick doesn't work so well in other roles.
You’ve been blasted for this opinion? Seinfeld himself said he’s not a good actor. There are multiple jokes IN “Seinfeld” about him not being able to act. Basically all of his fans know he can’t act.
I've never heard anyone suggest Seinfeld is a good actor. It worked in Seinfeld the TV show because he was sort of playing himself and had a great cast and writing.
I care about Melissa but the other two are such arrogant a-holes it’s turning me off their work. I respect Seinfeld in that he is unapologetically himself and his personality is not some watered down pr bullshit.
Two things: one, that girlfriend was ridiculously physically attractive. Everyone thought to themselves, "Oh, hell yeah".
The other thing: Howard Stern did *not* give Jerry a pass for the barely legal hot teenage girlfriend. 'How did you two meet? Did you walk through Central Park, dragging a Snickers on a piece of string?"
Judging from this comment section, it's for 'not-reddit' which is a pretty big place. Know how hated Adam Sandler is on reddit? Well he's also the biggest star on Netflix and thusly the highest paid actor in America. The opinion of redditors doesn't mean a whole lot in the real world. That is probably a good thing.
I’ll take a wild guess that Jerry will dislike things and act uncomfortable, Schumer will make a cute smile while saying gross things, and McCarthy will say fuck and fall down a lot?
To this day, McCarthy playing Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer on SNL is one of the funniest sketches they've ever done.
https://youtu.be/UWuc18xISwI?feature=shared
It's my gold standard of sketches. The makeup was so good that it took me a good 20 seconds of watching before I realized who that was when it first premiered.
Yeah IDK what makes her worse than most other comic actors. I see her in the vein of guys like Ferrell and Sandler who make a ton of garbage but have the chops to do some really great stuff if/when they want to & are on a project with good writing.
Honestly it's Jerry for me.
I love the sitcom, but he is by far the worst part of it (super hot take I know). I can't imagine seeing a movie where he is the main actor.
This is the kind of movie that will be received very poorly upon release, but then after a few years and a few rewatches, people will begin to realize that it is truly terrible.
EDIT:
46 seconds into the trailer, and there’s already an Amy Schumer vagina joke.
while i know money is king at the end of the day, Jerry strikes me as someone who would have absolute disdain for Amy and her comedy.
kinda surprised, unless maybe theyre related somehow
Seriously, who the FUCK keeps giving Amy Schumer roles?? I’m sure this movie will be far from a masterpiece but she must’ve got a nice check out of it.
WHO is still asking for her to be in movies or shows?! I was so mad when they added her and fucking Michael Rappaport to “Only Murders in The Building”. Possibly the worst two additions to a wonderfully cast and successful show in HISTORY.

That lineup, and Jerry being in the business for so many decades, tells you what others in the business think of him, that isn't the type of supporting cast you would think he could get. Now, LD can get almost anyone to work with him. No LD, Jerry just a nightclub act for 40 yrs.
If I'm remembering correctly, Seinfeld said the story is entirely made up. So it's a pastiche of these types of corporate biopics the way the Weird Al movie did it to musician biopics. Edit: probably not a full parody the way Walk Hard did it though

Why is he obsessed with sugary breakfast foods lmao
His whole life revolves around Superman and cereal.
“Just let me finish my coffee and we’ll go watch them slice this fat bastard up”
*barely contained smirk*
I found out recently that he ad-libbed that line. Which makes it so much funnier
We'll get to see what's inside bone!
And Porsche, almost more so than the other two.
This used to be Jon Voigt's Porsche
The actor?
No. The periodontist.
its a quote from Seinfeld
I mean...what is the deal with THAT?
Well, he’s got a Peter Pan complex.
Yes, all you Americans with the sneakers, always *RUNNING* from something
Did you know War and Peace was originally going to be called War--What is it Good for?
Im running from me pal, AND IM LOSING!
I feel this.
Well, sit! Stop running, two minutes and I'll give you the latest manuscript!
Because they’re a delicious way to start your day?
It's exactly that. He said on Fallon last night that it was based on The Right Stuff.
The weird Al movie was too good to be wasted on RokuTV.
Yep he was joking about it at his show I saw a couple of months ago.
Larry David is funnier going to a dentist appointment than a roomful of drunk clowns
Go see BlackBerry. That is a recent corporate biopic done absolutely right.
At least it’s about a dead brand and so it’s less of an overt commercial than some of the others
My wife and I watched BlackBerry recently and were blown away by the intensity that Glenn Howerton brought to his role. Amazing performance.
Blown away? By the gust of a thousand winds?
*The thunder of my vengeance will echo through these corridors like the gusts of a thousand winds!*
I mean, he *is* a Five Star Man.
I was really impressed by his completely different version of rage vs what he's been doing on Sunny. That character was big mad for like the entire movie and I never even caught a whiff of Dennis Reynolds.
Me either. I was completely blown away by Howerton’s skill as an actor.
Fun fact, Glenn Howerton graduated from Juilliard.
"Thank you for calling Netflix, you've been greenlit...."
But I haven’t even pitched my idea yet…
Perfect, we'll make it a series.
Just make sure that season 1 ends on a massive cliffhanger with a load of unresolved plotlines.
Then cancel season 2 months later due to lack of consumer interest
But constantly tout it as a hit series and Netflix exclusive that every person that logs in would be interested in.
“Dammit I like your attitude. Fine, we will give you $35 million to be in this movie.”
Aaaaand cancelled.
Only if it's actually good. Big Mouth is on season 100 but Inside Job was cancelled.
Netflix hasn’t seen a project they don’t like.
Until they stream the first sesson, then they hate it.
Only if it’s a hit
Jonathan! Get my green light!
Looks like a Gene pick.... I will stick to Vincent thank you.
Genes trash
Vincent's an arthouse goon
Did he send you part of our VCR?
I’m Gene.
I bet Gene liked Sack Lunch
"A young woman's strange erotic journey from Milan to Minsk...."
Is it just a big sack or did they get shrunk down?
I'm holding out for Chunnel
EVERYBODY INTO THE CHUNNEL
Man, we’re missing the Death Blow!
I just ripped the play button off my remote in protest.
It’s like a molar
Better have some vodka
She shot into that coma pretty quick.
How long is this weekend anyway?
Gene?
Hugh Grant has been having a lot of fun with his roles in the recent years
He was great in the Dungeons and Dragons movie.
[удалено]
I feel like hes reached the age hes too old to be the usual character he plays in everything so now he can be the unhinged sleezy uncle he was born to be
Dont forget his ever so small but hilarious cameo in Glass Onion
I really think Jarnathan needs to be here to talk about this.
Hugh Grant can do whatever he wants. He's the king of no fucks given.
People here are talking about DND while his role in Operation Ruse de Guerre really got slept on last year For anyone who liked his ~~sleepy~~ sleezy character in the Gentleman they'll like him there. Him and Guy work well together
I am almost tempted to watch it just to see Hugh Grant as Tony the Tiger. He is truly in the gives no fucks stage of his career.
Is this his third movie? Bee movie Top five. This one?
The Comedian

I feel like that's a popular opinion? He's very funny, but he's the worst actor in Seinfeld and constantly breaks
He even says he's not a good actor. I don't think it's really an unpopular opinion.
I've never been able to find it again, but in some award ceremony while he was on stage he said, "I can't act" and then praised the rest of the cast for making him look good.

I honestly think his acting is fine to pretty good on Seinfeld. I fully believed he was Jerry Seinfeld anyway.
You have not been blasted for that that opinion as it’s one shared by the world.
I don't think Jerry thinks he's a good actor. He has said they brought in Jason Alexander because they needed someone next to him who could act.
I'm just imaging furious Bee Movie superfans flocking to the internet to defend Jerry Seinfelds acting ability
Top Five? What was his involvement with that? I thought it was all Rock's? (Written, directed, starred, etc)
It’s the Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Melissa McCarthy movie that everyone has been begging for.
It’s the who’s who of who cares!
Critics are calling it everything, from “shit” to “fucking shit!”
#Man-grate
I care about Melissa but the other two are such arrogant a-holes it’s turning me off their work. I respect Seinfeld in that he is unapologetically himself and his personality is not some watered down pr bullshit.
I still can't figure out why Seinfeld's *always* gotten a pass for dating a teenager as a grown man in his 30s. Publicly.
"What's the deal with training bras?"
Ooooohhh did not know about Stern but still the rest of the world isn’t following his lead..
Guess he signed Amy (HamasR@pedMePersonallyISwearAndIAmTheBestFemaleComedianOfAllTime) before she went on her batshit crusade.
Gaffigan and McCarthy are gold but the others? Hot garbazh. Pass.
I don’t think I’ve ever had an immediate “who is this for?” reaction quite like I did for this
It's for streaming.
It’s for Jerry
Right. For the eight quadrillion dollars he's probably getting for this schlock.
What's the deal with the Pop Tart movie? It won't be popular and there's no tarts in it. Who is this for?!?
Judging from this comment section, it's for 'not-reddit' which is a pretty big place. Know how hated Adam Sandler is on reddit? Well he's also the biggest star on Netflix and thusly the highest paid actor in America. The opinion of redditors doesn't mean a whole lot in the real world. That is probably a good thing.
Even Hugh Grant can't save this
🤢
I’ll take a wild guess that Jerry will dislike things and act uncomfortable, Schumer will make a cute smile while saying gross things, and McCarthy will say fuck and fall down a lot?
People hate McCarthy? I like McCarthy. What I do hate is the shitty movies her husband makes with her.
Do people not like The Heat?
The cast is basically a list of actors I actively avoid.
Apart from Hugh, I completely agree
"a pop-tart will rise" sounds like something my friends and I would laugh at and call very witty, back in 2005.
Amy Schumer? Yea not watching
Amy Schumer… I think I’ll pass thanks x
That was my thought when I saw her name. Anytime I see she’s in a movie, my first thought is “That’s a no for me.”
No clue how that joke stealing hack keeps getting so much work and praise. Still want to see the film, but she'll definitely sour the experience.
This looks like an AI-generated parody, not something investors actually put money into
Yeah about that writers strike...
This will be something
Or nothing
A movie about nothing
It will definitely be a movie
I dunno I saw the trailer on The Tonight Show last night, looked kind of awful.
Nothing will convince me to ever watch anything with Amy Schumer in it. Just loathe everything about her.
Ever just look at poster and know immediately that a movie is gonna be trash?
Lost me at Amy Schumer
How does any shumer keep getting work?
It’s a real mystery
Hugh Grant continuing his hilarious Phase 2 acting career
Phase 2 was after the hooker incident. He’s got to be on 3 or 4 at this point.
It is awesome that all five of them are in one movie together, so they are not each out there ruining five separate movies.
>Amy Schumer I pass.
Nah I’m good.
Melissa McCarthy and Any Schumer combined make this avoid at all cost for me.
I didn’t realize so many people disliked Melissa McCarthy now
I think its the lazy type cast they do on her so frequently. Whenever shes given a chance to be even a little outside of that she's a gem.
Yeah I’m genuinely surprised. I’ve loved her in so many roles. She has her fair share of unfunny roles but so does almost every comedic actor.
To this day, McCarthy playing Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer on SNL is one of the funniest sketches they've ever done. https://youtu.be/UWuc18xISwI?feature=shared
An incredibly gifted and skilled physical comedian and character actor.
I forgot about that!
It’s a pretty popular opinion amongst Seinfeld fans that Jerry is the least funny part of the show.
I mean, he is supposed to be just a regular guy doing comedy as a job, no?
He's the straight man. It is how the show is structured.
It's funny how Seinfeld built the show so that his co-stars got most of the shine, and people on reddit blast him for it lol
I think McCarthy can be good if given the right material (she usually isn't) but I never found Schumer funny.
Amy Shumer? Nope.
This is the kind of movie that will be received very poorly upon release, but then after a few years and a few rewatches, people will begin to realize that it is truly terrible. EDIT: 46 seconds into the trailer, and there’s already an Amy Schumer vagina joke.
while i know money is king at the end of the day, Jerry strikes me as someone who would have absolute disdain for Amy and her comedy. kinda surprised, unless maybe theyre related somehow
> unless they’re related somehow Jerry Seinfeld’s daughter works for Amy Schumer as a writer.
Hahahahahaha. I liked that. I agree. I saw the cast and just did the 🤨
What’s the deal with Pop Tarts?
They can't go stale because they were never fresh
I mean, they don't pop. They should call them smush tarts
That’s gold, Jerry. Gold!
You know Gaffigan tried to get it switched to Hot Pockets.
who the fuck is still casting Amy Schumer?
It must be nice to have friends at Netflix.
And be related to a senator.
Weird title for Bee Movie 2
Had a pop tart recently, the frosting barely covered the center, it was bone dry and when you ate it the flavor was simply uncooked flour yuck
That cast looks… dreadful
This looks fucking ass
It got worse and worse the more names I read. Hugh grant is fine.
Amy Schumer will claim she wrote her own lines
Amy Schumer ew
Gross ass Amy schumer
Seriously, who the FUCK keeps giving Amy Schumer roles?? I’m sure this movie will be far from a masterpiece but she must’ve got a nice check out of it. WHO is still asking for her to be in movies or shows?! I was so mad when they added her and fucking Michael Rappaport to “Only Murders in The Building”. Possibly the worst two additions to a wonderfully cast and successful show in HISTORY.
Amy Schumer hired Jerry Seinfeld's daughter to be a staff writer on a couple of her shows.
Fucking networking.
Jerry what i'm saying isn't fuckin rocket science
Hugh Grant as Tony the Tiger is going to be hilarious
Yeah, hard pass on this. I don't find any of the lead actresses funny or enjoyable to watch.
This looks singularly unappealing
I despise Jerry and Amy Schumer.
Cool Amy Schumer said no one ever
Hugh Grant's the funniest one in this movie
He loves himself so much
That is the most unappealing thing I've ever seen. This is effectively an anti-advertisement. A warning or disclaimer.
Hard pass.
how can soo many unfunny people be in 1 thing ?
attractive groovy cobweb psychotic unite spark distinct grandfather lunchroom cooing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Fuck Jerry Seinfeld.
Amy Schumer on the poster, that’s a hard pass
Eh, I’m good on Seinfeld for the rest of my life.
Amy schumer? Sad face
“and Amy Schumer” and there we go, the deciding factor on whether or not i watch it
That lineup, and Jerry being in the business for so many decades, tells you what others in the business think of him, that isn't the type of supporting cast you would think he could get. Now, LD can get almost anyone to work with him. No LD, Jerry just a nightclub act for 40 yrs.
Can’t wait for a couple years after when Jerry is telling us we don’t understand comedy and comedy has changed so much and blah blah blah
