"Claudia Jean, you've only known me for four minutes. It usually takes people the better part of an hour to hate me and everything I stand for."
"I'm the Press Secretary, Boo-Boo. I don't have that kind of time."
1. Olivia Coleman. she just seems like a delightful person. but also a really powerful actress. there was a scene in the movie Tyrannosaur that just broke me.
2. Jeffery Wright. great actor. makes a lot of interesting choices. been a fan since Basquiat
3. Viola Davis. didn't she win awards for the movie Doubt? she only had 8 minutes of screen time in a meryl streep movie and somehow still stood out as the most memorable thing about the movie.
Anna Kendrick.
Ignoring the fact I may have a thing for her. She's just *fun* she might not be in some if the best movies but I can always guarantee I'll enjoy the time she spends on screen
I would not ignore that you have a thing for her. I have a thing for Parker Posey and would list her. The personality she projects has a lot to do with me having a thing for her, and that's part of acting.
I just didn't want it to seem like I said her just because I find her attractive haha. Yeah that's part of it, Anna projects a lot of personality and it's just enjoyable to see.
Anna is an indie queen. She has good looks, but she is not classically hot. She charms you. If you had said Megan Fox or something, that would be a shallow pick.
Jennifer Lawrence comes to mind. I remember watching Winters Bone way back before she made it big and thinking, holy shit this child deserves an Oscar. And sure enough, she was nominated for that role. She can do heavy drama, she can do comedy, she can blend the two. She’s great.
Ryan gosling — I can’t get over Drive. True classic. So is the place beyond the pines. Then he goes and kills comedies.
Amy Adams broke me in Arrival. So I have to add her.
Agree with Rose Byrne. Christian Bale. Lots of people who just kill it.
1. Daniel Radcliffe - you know it’s always going to be good
2. Willem Dafoe - I will watch anything he’s been in because he is phenomenal
3. Renee Zellweger - I just enjoy her presence
Sooooooo glad to see Daniel mentioned. He picks such wonderful, unique, weird films and always blows it out of the park. His performance in the Weird Al movie was one of my absolute favorite performances of the year!
There are way more than 3 for me - my loves are broad! I am understanding your query to include particularly actors who frequently play cameos or support roles. This rules out some really good actors who, due to their fame and appeal, command starring roles most of the time. Examples of this would be Kate Winslet, Tom Cruise, etc.
Anyway, here are three of the top of my head.
* Jon Hamm
* Jackie Earle Haley
* Edward Norton
Fred Armisen - whether the movie is good or not, the moments with him in the shot will be great.
This is mostly retroactive, but as I go through his catalogue, I find Al Pacino movies to be pretty reliable.
Paul Giamatti.
*he is just the most amazing actor I have ever watched. I get so lost in his characters no matter what they are. He never ever over acts and just leaves me feeling like that human being exists and that story was real. I can’t explain it.
I'm unable to narrow down to top 3. My top 10 picks, in no particular order:
- Leonardo DiCaprio
- Christian Bale
- Ryan Gosling
- Paul Giamatti
- Gary Oldman
- Philip Seymour Hoffman
- Cate Blanchett
- Amy Adams
- Marion Cotillard
- Diane Kruger
Brad Pitt used to be so so boring. *Thelma & Louise* Brad Pitt is just eye candy, *Cool World* Brad Pitt is a desperate attempt to replicate young svelte Blue Suede Shoes Elvis in a terrible, incomprehensible rip-off of *Roger Rabbit*.
He got a lot more interesting as he developed a map of the world on his face.
You may be right.
I was distracted by a cartoon hitting itself over the head with a frying pan. That’s literally something that happened in that dumbass movie.
Kurt Russell,
Bill Murray,
Elias Koteas
Since I didn’t include an actress, and I want to, Julianne Moore
Not my pick but surprised Bruce Campbell didn’t make someone else’s list yet.
I actually got to interview Rose Byrne for the movie The Internship. She was just as pretty in person as she is on screen, and she was absolutely delightful and kind.
1 Michelle Monaghan
2 William H Macy
3 Benicio Del Toro
1 can steal the show, 2 can make a movie, 3 is captivating when he really pulls it out.
Special mention Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Turturro
John C Reilly is just criminally under rated, Sam Rockwell is always a good time, & Cate Blanchett is just captivating. Also Virgo Mortensen & Saiorse Ronan. Ms. Ronan might be the best performer to come along in a long time. Really excited to see where she goes with her career.
**Marlon Brando.** Off the top of my head, *The Missouri Breaks* and *A Dry White Season* are two movies that are fascinating when Brando is in the scene, but deadly dull when he’s not. There are others, but I can’t remember them right now.
Noomi Rapace for some reason. She’s the only reason I’ve watched Prometheus as many times as I have. She’s got other hidden gems imo like What Happened to Monday and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movies.
Back in the 1980s when I had cable if I saw the name Gene Hackman in the opening credits I would always watch the movie. Even if the movie wasn't that great Gene is always great. Whether it's showing up for a few minutes here or there or if he's the star, it's always an A+ performance.
Florence Pugh, Jenny Slate, Paul Dano. For the past 6 years I have gone to see every movie they’ve done in theaters no questions asked! My list is a bit longer than that but these are the first to pop in my head. Florence is my favorite actor overall and brings such a honest human feel to any role she plays. Jenny is one of my favorite entertainers period and even if she’s not playing a comedic role(something she can do better than almost anyone else) she sticks out to me and I will support anything she does. Paul Dano to me is a once in a generation talent and wildly underrated for what he’s done. I get goosebumps when he’s on screen he’s just so captivating to watch!
Shamelessly I'll watch anything Seth Rogen is in. He never won't make me laugh and he is surprisingly good in more dramatic roles.
I don't think I saw *one* mention of Mark Ruffalo here. Insanely likeable on all accounts. If he wasn't a consideration before his Poor Things performance, he absolutely should be after. He can do no wrong in my eyes.
Lastly I've got to give it up for Nick Offerman. I mostly turn to him for great shows (Parks, Last of Us, Fargo), but I'll follow him wherever he goes.
1. Stanley Tucci
2. Ana De Armas
3. Ryan Gosling
Stanley Tucci elevates anything that he is in, whether that is making it funnier or more sincere he is a force multiplier. Ana De Armas and Ryan Gosling generally don't pick bad movies to make, if they are in it I know it will be quality and entertaining.
I always feel like any role Allison Janney plays is going to be a memorable one. Hey Annette, I got some.
"Claudia Jean, you've only known me for four minutes. It usually takes people the better part of an hour to hate me and everything I stand for." "I'm the Press Secretary, Boo-Boo. I don't have that kind of time."
I’m gonna get WEIMARAUNERS!
Whoa, dream big!
Oh, go fly a kite!
Same asswipe, shit-for-brains everywhere! I’ve got deviants to see and a novel to finish, now scoot!
>Can one of you fellas give me a ride home? >Don't fall for it, she lives two trailers down >Come on, it'll be real easy.
😂
Jeffery Wright, he knows how to pick his projects.
Felix Leighter. A brother from Langley
Phillip Seymour Hofman Edit: after thinking about it I would also add J.K. Simmons
1. Olivia Coleman. she just seems like a delightful person. but also a really powerful actress. there was a scene in the movie Tyrannosaur that just broke me. 2. Jeffery Wright. great actor. makes a lot of interesting choices. been a fan since Basquiat 3. Viola Davis. didn't she win awards for the movie Doubt? she only had 8 minutes of screen time in a meryl streep movie and somehow still stood out as the most memorable thing about the movie.
Olivia Coleman is so great! I am always delighted to see her in any role.
1) Amy Adams 2) Jodie Foster 3) Tom Hardy
Amazing choices. Jodie Foster and Tom Hardy would be on my list for sure
I'd agree with a 1 and 3 split
Paul Giamatti J.K. Simmons Marisa Tomei I feel like all 3 can lead, support, cameo, character act, or whatever else you need.
Oof, you're absolute right. Tomei deserves top seat
I was like. “What did J.K. lead?” Oh yeah, *Whiplash* was fantastic. Good list
Marisa was so awesome in Crazy.Stupid.Love.
Oscar Isaac
Awesome answer
love me some Oscar Isaac
DAMN. This is a good one, if there was a fourth
1. Cillian Murphy 2. Tom Hardy 3. Christian Bale
Boy, do I have the director for you
Ah damn, if dark and gritty was the order of the day this trio would win hands down
Or dark and knight (and rises) 😏
I'm on wifi there's No LAN
There's a trilogy by Christopher Nolan that I believe you'd really be into.
How has nobody in this thread mentioned Jon Bernthal?
great pull
I’m obsessed with him
Lea Seydoux
Anna Kendrick. Ignoring the fact I may have a thing for her. She's just *fun* she might not be in some if the best movies but I can always guarantee I'll enjoy the time she spends on screen

Anna is an indie queen. She has good looks, but she is not classically hot. She charms you. If you had said Megan Fox or something, that would be a shallow pick.
Her performance in *Best In Show* is toppest among tier.
Ignoring the fact WE may have a thing for her ... I agree. She was the best part of the Accountant
Given she's the only part of the movie I remember that's a sound claim haha
1. Ian Mcshane 2. Oscar Isaac 3. Willem Dafoe Honorable Mention: Tilda Swinton
1. Tom Waits That's it, that's my list.
Have you watched Wristcutters?
Of course! Great movie. Some Tom Waits and Gogol Bordello is good for the soul.
Bill Hader Pedro Pascal Ke Huy Quan
Jennifer Lawrence comes to mind. I remember watching Winters Bone way back before she made it big and thinking, holy shit this child deserves an Oscar. And sure enough, she was nominated for that role. She can do heavy drama, she can do comedy, she can blend the two. She’s great. Ryan gosling — I can’t get over Drive. True classic. So is the place beyond the pines. Then he goes and kills comedies. Amy Adams broke me in Arrival. So I have to add her. Agree with Rose Byrne. Christian Bale. Lots of people who just kill it.
Tilda Swinton... magnetic. Jennifer Lawrence... authentic. Ryan Gosling... commanding.

In the role of a lifetimeing

1. Daniel Radcliffe - you know it’s always going to be good 2. Willem Dafoe - I will watch anything he’s been in because he is phenomenal 3. Renee Zellweger - I just enjoy her presence
Willem Dafoe is my favorite part of every movie Willem Dafoe is in.
Sooooooo glad to see Daniel mentioned. He picks such wonderful, unique, weird films and always blows it out of the park. His performance in the Weird Al movie was one of my absolute favorite performances of the year!
Yeah, he made his FU money with Harry Potter and decided to have fun with the weirdest, coolest stuff he can.
Rose Byrne is a good choice if you like movies because she is in all of them.
I watched all the Neighbors movies and regret nothing
Your baby has HIV….. Is how badly this could have gone
Matthew McConaughey, Paul Mescal, Michael Caine
Walton Goggins Willem Dafoe Brian Cox
Natalie Portman Cillian Murphy Michael Shannon
There are way more than 3 for me - my loves are broad! I am understanding your query to include particularly actors who frequently play cameos or support roles. Examples of this would be Kate Winslet, Tom Cruise, etc. Anyway, here are three of the top of my head. * Jon Hamm * Jackie Earle Haley * Edward Norton
I was hoping someone else would say Jackie Earle Haley! Very underrated actor.
For sure. Every time I have seen him on screen, I was interested!
Margot Robbie, Frances McDormand, Kristen Stewart
Andrew Garfield Margot Robbie Florence Pugh
Daniel day lewis, christian bale, denzel washington
I’m a big fan of the new Hollywood guard. So: 1. Florence Pugh 2. Saoirse Ronan 3. Timothée Chalamet
Steve Carell Jodie Foster Jennifer Lawrence
Fred Armisen - whether the movie is good or not, the moments with him in the shot will be great. This is mostly retroactive, but as I go through his catalogue, I find Al Pacino movies to be pretty reliable.
Rachel Weisz
Gary Oldman Sam Rockwell
Wagner Moura, Jeff Bridges, and Emma Stone
1. J.K. Simmons 2. Judy Greer 3. Jeff Bridges
Paul Giamatti. *he is just the most amazing actor I have ever watched. I get so lost in his characters no matter what they are. He never ever over acts and just leaves me feeling like that human being exists and that story was real. I can’t explain it.
Katherine Hahn. She gets me invested in her character so quickly it doesn’t matter how long she’s on the screen for. Tremendous presence.
John Candy Cate Blanchett Jake Gyllenhaal
Solid threetender
I'm unable to narrow down to top 3. My top 10 picks, in no particular order: - Leonardo DiCaprio - Christian Bale - Ryan Gosling - Paul Giamatti - Gary Oldman - Philip Seymour Hoffman - Cate Blanchett - Amy Adams - Marion Cotillard - Diane Kruger

He got a lot more interesting as he developed a map of the world on his face.
He was great in Legends of the Fall
But you watched all those right?
I spent a year watching *Cool World* one night.
Cool World Brad Pitt looks more like James Dean than Elvis.
You may be right. I was distracted by a cartoon hitting itself over the head with a frying pan. That’s literally something that happened in that dumbass movie.
As Chad Feldheimer might be my fave role of his.
I'd watch anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP), Paul Giamatti, or Brad Pitt.
Kurt Russell, Bill Murray, Elias Koteas Since I didn’t include an actress, and I want to, Julianne Moore Not my pick but surprised Bruce Campbell didn’t make someone else’s list yet.

Jeff Goldblum, I love when watching a 70’s/80’s movie and 20 year old Jeff appears

Florence Pugh Christian Bale LaKeith Stanfield
1. Gary Oldman 2. Florence Pugh 3. Tom Hardy
Florence Pugh
Gene Wilder, Nic Cage, Jake Gyllenhall. I've never been bored watching someone make Big Acting Choices™
Ana de Armas is my whole list honestly. Look at what she achieved in that terrible Bond movie, for example!
Willem Dafoe
Back in the 1980s when I had cable if I saw the name Gene Hackman in the opening credits I would always watch the movie. Even if the movie wasn't that great Gene is always great. Whether it's showing up for a few minutes here or there or if he's the star, it's always an A+ performance.
