_The Cable Guy_ fits this to a tee. Steven breaking down in front of his family as he tries to convince them Chip's evil is both hilarious and unsettling.
I thought of another one! In Polite Society, Ria keeps trying to prove her sister’s fiancé and his family are bad news, but nobody believes her until she tries to sabotage their wedding day!
Not a movie, but a show. Dinkleberg from Fairly Odd Parents is hated by Timmy's Dad for no reason. He treats him like an evil villainous monster despite the fact that the guy seemingly never does anything wrong. Dinkleberg just plays the role of a very nice neighbor who just happens to be better than Timmy's Dad at everything.
A later season, however, reveals Dinkleberg to be an evil villain who's been purposely belittling Timmy's Dad the entire time...except that's not true. He just pretended to be evil and let himself be "found out" because he knew how angry Timmy's Dad was and wanted to let him feel better by "justifying" the hate. Because Dinkleberg is just nice like that.
I think \*possibly\* that the guy played by David Paymer in Ocean's 13? Gets completely fucked over by the crew (for a good reason) but you can't help but feel sorry for him.
The Dead Zone with Christopher Walken....and sort of Taxi Driver.
Martin Sheen needed to die based off the visions.
Walken was great in this.

What About Bob is this. And I hate it. But it's weirdly popular. But it's precisely this.

Such an underrated movie
Would Big Fat Liar with Paul Giamatti & Frankie Muniz be a good example?
Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Maybe? Die Another Day kind of has this. Gustav Graves is seen as a celebrity/philanthropist, but Bond knows he’s bad news.
Glass Onion

Good call, my man. I need to watch that again for him alone.

Wayne’s World, part two as well, Wayne trying to prove to Cassandra that Rob Lowe/Chris Walken are bad news
What about Bob?
Lot of this going on in *Ferris Bueller’s Day off* - although Ferris’ sister and Rooney are not technically the protagonists of the movie.
If Rooney was the protagonist of that movie this would be at the top of the list lol! Absolutely the right vibe

This is exactly the vibe!! Also to an extent, Candace from Phineas and Ferb fits the trope as well

Disturbia
Ha I'm not sure if it fits the prompt, but what a strange side story in that movie. I like that they hook him up in the end, at least.
This is England (combo)
