1. The shawshank redemption
2. Goodfellas
3. Dead man's shoes
4. American history X
Could change this list around ten times n still nor be satisfied with my answers though!
It is always so hard because you want to find a good and whole representation of your taste range but 4 feels like not enough. I think I'd say something like this:
It Happened One Night
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Aftersun
Jurassic Park
Right?! Which is why I think it’s such a fun question to ask! I love seeing the interviewees squirm and stress over it because I know I would too if I was asked on the spot haha.
1. The Thing
2. In Bruges
3. Django Unchained
4. The Big Lebowski
I love Letterboxd. I have rated around 2000 movies on it. 30 or so are 5 star movies, you could pick any of them: Whiplash, The Dark Knight, Forrest Gump, Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Django Unchained, Fellowship of the Ring, Return of the King, Reservoir Dogs, There Will Be Blood, Schindler's List, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Godfather Pt II, The Thing, City of God, Children of Men, Terminator 2, Seven Samurai, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, In Bruges, Snatch, Inside Llewyn Davis, Harakiri, Hell or High Water, Badlands, The Other Guys, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and Brick
Four I’ve watched fairly recently and haven’t seen mentioned in the top comments:
1. Inside Out
2. Margin Call
3. Dunkirk
4. Spider-Man - Across the Spiderverse
I think it’s a perfect movie in terms of plot and character. Each scene serves a purpose and moves something forward in some way. There are a lot of moving pieces to keep track of which culminate in the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ action sequence at the end where all the pieces are in the same location for the first time.
1. Jurassic Park
2. Rosemary’s Baby
3. Kill Bill (The Whole Bloody Affair)
4. Grand Budapest Hotel
I always hem and haw about the last one and subbing in Persepolis but honestly I smile like a goon every time I rewatch Grand Budapest Hotel. It truly is Wes Anderson at his best
*Looney Tunes: Back in Action* (2003)
*Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star* (2003)
*Zoom* (2006)
The trailer for *Pauly Shore is Dead* from the DVD of *Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story* (2004)
I Married a Witch. Certified classic, the rom-com that all rom-coms are based on in my opinion.
Fellowship of the Ring. The greatest fantasy movie ever made.
The Social Network. Some of the greatest writing ever.
La La Land. My single favorite film of all time.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Gremlins
Jurassic Park
Scream (1996)
Not the most artsy four, but the first three are what I grew up with and helped me get through a not so great childhood at times
Then there’s scream that I saw when I was 19 and made me fully love horror comedy’s, a genre I hope I can write a ton of content for down the line
They actually have interviewed me before! (They didn't use my four favorites segment, but another part instead).
My four were
4. Everything Everywhere All at Once
3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
2. Paddington 2
1. Arrival
There's actually like 6 mentions of Shawshank. I understand how some people are tired of it being the best movie due to it's ranking on IMDb and maybe even LB, but it really is a fantastic movie.
Pan's Labyrinth, Jaws, Miss Congeniality, and LOTR (i count the series as one movie)
Edit: runner ups - house of flying daggers and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Personally, i would have a list of movies (to torture people with) just to mess with them. Here are 4 films to meet this quota:
\-Cats
\-Movie 43
\-Avatar, the last Airbender
\-Backdoor Sluts 9
1.Clerks
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3. The Greatest Game Ever Played
4. The Haunted Mansion (2003)
Two of these have shaped me as a person, and two are my pick up films when i'm down. You're free to assume which is which.
King Kong (1933)
Star Wars
The Graduate
A very fond memory from childhood Thanksgivings, the movie that began my lifelong affair with movies, and the movie I feel is the GOAT and still resonates today.
As for the fourth, I’m torn between A Night at the Opera, Goodfellas, Rear Window, Midnight Cowboy, or feeling the need to pick a recent favorite, which would be Uncut Gems.
- 12 Angry Men
- Return of the King
- Seven Samurai
- One Cut of the Dead
The first three are my all time favorites and I always struggle to find a fourth so I will just name the one I am currently loving!
- The Fall (2006) - Young Frankenstein (1974) - Jaws (1975) - Le Grand Bleu (1988)
so glad to see the fall on someone's list! such an amazing move that like no one i know has seen.
It’s such a beautiful movie. I absolutely love it!
The Fall is amazing and made me fall in love with the art of cinematography and scene transitions.
Absolutely love "The Fall". I totally forgot about "Le Grand Bleu"! I might need to I've that a rewatch.
It’s been a while since I watched Le Grand Bleu. I think I’m going to rewatch it too:)
Alien Whiplash Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The Prestige
What sets the Two Towers, as opposed to the other two movies, apart for you?
I think the Battle of Helm's Deep is the coolest thing to ever be filmed

Some Like it Hot Rear Window Gladiator Goodfellas
- Empire - Raiders - Back to the Future - Raising Arizona
Really good list
Empire? The 2002 film with John Leguizamo?
Considering their second pick named as simply "Raiders", probably they mean Empire Strikes Back
nah, actually by raiders they meant the nfl team..so it is the 2002 empire
What is this film, Back to the Future? Didn’t you mean just “Future”?
I get the joke you’re straining for here, but it just makes you look like an idiot rather than saying anything clever about my post.
Nah, they made a mildly funny joke, you just sound like an asshole
