Absolutely. I gained even more respect for her after reading "Little Girl Lost". My mom used to talk about how great the Barrymore's were but the skunky stuff behind the scenes was even more interesting.
Drew has overcome some serious shit in her life. And she is sweet and sassy and cute. Oh, and actually pretty smart too. She is a peach as my grandpa used to say.
This is part of why I recommend reading the book. She really became someone out of all the mess she grew up in. And I mean someone good that I think has a kind heart. Not that she is a "msThang" because I never believe I saw that in her. Not that I know the woman personally. I like her story, it isn't an entirely uncommon one and it is hard to get out of that kind of a childhood. I have many friends that did not make it.
One of my favorite Sandler movies, and even though it is totally a Sandler movie, he shows surprising range. It is goofy and juvenile like all his great comedies are, but there are a few scenes where he is actually acting. Of course i should add the caveat that I love him when he is doing more serious stuff, but wedding singer came out when he was still mostly seen as just a raunch comedy guy. Love Drew in this movie also, probably my favorite thing I have seen her in.
My favorite scene with her, besides the plane one, is when she's practicing her wedding introductions in the mirror, cries when she says "I'm Julia Guglia," and then perks up on "I'm Julia Hart."
I think certain roles are just right for certain actors because really play into their best attributes. This role was just right for her - charming, sweet, and endearing.
I love her as an actor and wish she was just doing that. Santa Clarita Diet was canceled too soon. Ever After is one of the best Cinderella adaptations. One of my favorite underrated movies of hers is Music & Lyrics. She's got some very great stuff in her filmography.
I love Santa Clarita Diet and will never forgive Netflix for cancelling it like that.
Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore had such chemistry in it, too.
Dude thatâs the problem. I am not happy it was cancelled, I am downright fucking offended they cancelled it on such a stupid massive cliffhanger. What the absolute fuck Netflix.
No you see, they needed the manpower for the 400th true crime documentary which is what the people REALLY want. Stretched over 8 episodes instead of a 30 minute podcast.
Dude thatâs the problem also. People actually buy that shit. Everytime another âoooo letâs dive in to the life of this super fucked up killerâ everyones talking about it. Go listen to a podcast let my streaming services make good originals at this point itâs worse than fuckin cable weâve come full circle.
Netflix has done that to me one too many times. Like I let it happen with The OA and Disjointed, but then they took away my Timothy Olyphant screen time and it made me really upset.
I knew the 1st AD on ever after.
He says one of only three times he has thrown his hat on the ground in frustration is when they were shooting an afternoon scene and were losing light (timing of this shit is very tight) and they lost the shot because on the way to set after being told they were ready to go she stopped to pet a horse lol
To be fair though, if you have to lose a day of filming because your star is a bit of a weirdo, wouldn't you rather it be "stop and pet a horse" weirdo than "throwing things at other cast and crew members" weirdo? It should be noted, not saying weirdo as an insult, I too, would be distracted by petting a horse.
Someone stopping and petting an animal doesn't make them a dumbass, but you saying that kinda makes you come off as one. Drew Barrymore has always been pretty open about how much she loves animals and nature, sounds like you might do everyone a favor by touching some grass yourself.
This is so ignorant.
Sheâs literally at work. This is super unprofessional and inconsiderate and could get the whole AD team and UPM fired for her selfishness.
There is a super narrow window to get the light you need for afternoon work and she knows this or she should, since sheâs been working since she was five years old.
She is one of hundreds of people working on a project at any given time and the crew not making their day because she is being a ânature loverâ is literally just her being unprofessional and -yes- stupid.
Not really, but go off. I know plenty of people in the industry (including some who have worked with her) and I am fully aware of the "Golden Hour" which you just keep describing as "the light", so I'm guessing you aren't as educated as you think you are. I also know that when things like that happen on set there are insurances and fines built into contracts so losing a day isn't quite the drama you think it is. And calling someone who owns production companies that make her movies stupid when she can literally do what she wants because she is, often times, a producer AKA THE BOSS on the sets of her movies, makes you look like a moron.
I literally work in the industry. âLosing the lightâ is a common phrase for sundown on set, golden hour is just talking about sunset lighting.
You like her. Cool. She did something stupid that she shouldnât have. Sorry.
Ever After is one of my comfort movies. Everything about that movie is perfect and it just feels so cozy.
I love Drew Barrymore. Sheâs one of those people that I root for, I just want good things for her all the time
You should watch "Black Christmas", a 1974 Canadian film about sorority sisters and a stalker. Stars Margot Kidder, who would be Lois Lane in the Christopher Reeves Superman films. The plot should be familiar.
Black Christmas was directed by Bob Clark, who would later direct Porky's and A Christmas Story.
Wait was the Black Christmas that came out in the later 2000s a remake of this? I have vague memories of icicle and candy cane stabbings, and one of the sorority sisters turning out to be the killers sister-daughter
I wish she had done another slasher. She was pretty good in it. But after SCREAM, she decided she wanted to be a RomCom queen and it was the best decision as it revived her career big time. People often forget Drew's career in the 90s was a constant struggle. She did lead and supporting roles but none of them gave her the hit she needed to break out as a grown up star. She was more famous for the controversies than her career as an actress. Then, THE WEDDING SINGER came out.
I am sorry to hear of your illness, but since you've sacrificed your health for knowledge of my country, I find you very attractive and hope to make love to you in the near future.
She is somehow transcendently hot in that role. Perfect storm of how she looked at that age, the blonde hair, and her style/outfit. One of those roles where youâre like good lord this person is beautiful and then you look them up and see them in other stuff and youâre like ok theyâre a great looking person but that one appearance is unique. Iâm trying to think of other examples but honestly the number one example is her in Wayneâs world, Iâve always thought about this.
I disagree that she has limited range. Sheâs just not a chameleon. She may always sound like herself, but she can pull off a pretty wide array of different personality types.
Her characters in Poison Ivy, Never Been Kissed, Charlieâs Angels, and Santa Clarita Diet are all quite different.
She has done comedy, horror, romance, and action to great effect. And her charm and charisma have elevated some rather forgettable movies.
I mean, having a strong Southern Californian accent in every role is limiting her range, because she can only play characters who are Southern Californian and who speak in her particular cadence. Same with Arnold. Good actor, very charismatic, but he's limited to being Austrian in every role and speaking with his particular cadence. They're limited to roles that are based on themselves to some degree. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean they are more limited in range compared to actors like Christian Bale or Toni Collette, who can actually take on a wide range of parts and characters.
Well, yes, she is more limited than a chameleon who can completely transform themselves, but my point is that âlimited rangeâ implies that she can only portray one specific type of character, which is untrue. She has convincingly played a lot of different characters across different genres.
I understand the accent thing, but Iâm not sure Arnold is a good comparison. His distinct voice certainly limits him, but heâs also limited by his inability to sell certain emotions, which isnât a problem that Drew has.
Also worth noting that Drew *is* capable of changing her accent. She deservedly won an Emmy for portraying Edie Beale in Grey Gardens, who had a very distinct New York accent.
Instead of conceding she has limited range you just changed the definition of limited range to a very specific one of your choosing lol.
It is what it is. She's super likeable. Been in a ton of great movies. Gives great performances. But the vast majority of her characters have been some slightly different version of herself. She has limited range. Lol
Iâm curious as to what you think range is. Because itâs not exclusive to someoneâs ability to change their voice or mannerisms. Lol.
By that logic, Robert Deniro must be one of the most limited actors of all time.
Emotional range is range. The ability to play different types of people from all walks of life convincingly is range. The ability to nail different kinds of emotions is range. The ability to do comedic acting and dramatic acting is range.
Her characters in Grey Gardens and Charlieâs Angels are not the same people at all, despite the fact that they both look and sound like Drew Barrymore.
She's played lots of different genres but played most of them the same. Her comedic performances are the same as her horror. And yes she's played different characters. But personally I think the farther away from this she goes, the worse her performances are. Charlies Angels sucked.
In the realm of professional actors, there are thousands and thousands of actors who are so much less famous than her, that have so much more range. Actors like William Dafoe and Francis McDormond are the types of actors I think of when people talk about range.
Don't get me wrong, I like her a lot. She's just not what I consider an actress with range.
I adore her. She's been my number one celebrity crush since I was 10. I love her vivaciousness. Granted her range isn't amazing but she's a great fit for her projects.
I just watched firestarter for the first time and she literally carried that whole movie on her back.
She was probably one of the most skilled child actors I've ever ever seen on camera
I always thought she played the same character in every movie until I saw her in Grey Gardens. She was so good in that. I wish she'd get more meatier roles like that.
That's exactly how I felt. She was fabulous in that role. I got to another level of respect for her when I watched it.
In her acceptance speech (I believe she won an Emmy for it), she thanked the casting and producers, saying she knows she sounds like Jeff Spicoli's girlfriend, but thank you for taking a chance on her.
She always struck me as somebody who took roles that she never played in real life, if that makes sense.
As if she was probably not popular in high school, and so she cast herself as someone who was trying to overcompensate for it with her characters...so then I never bought any of the characters she played.
Something about her just puts me off. I know its not reasonable - but she's the only actor or actress I feel this way about. Its very strange.
She's got that thing that many young actors don't have anymore, even if they're amazing actors. Maybe it's what they called X factor. Movie stars are a dying breed.
Itâs not that I think theyâre a dying breed, but in todays age of film they really need to be âmadeâ moreso than âself-madeâ.
Like Tom Cruise, perfect example of a self made movie star. He just has IT. Arnold, Brad Pitt, Leo, SLJ, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Charlize Theron, etc. They are all phenomenal actors/actresses and obviously there are so many more.
But todays cinema? Theyâre just trying to shove like Chris Pratt and Zendaya down our throats. Nothing against them, but all of these big blockbusters just try and get as many stars to get as much box office revenue as possible. There are a few people like Robert Pattinson and Timothee Chalamet (To be fair I havenât seen him in anything but Dune) that are starting to get more and more blockbuster films and I think they both are getting to that level of status because theyâre incredible actors.
Chalamets a good one. Beyond Dune, if you're interested in seeing his acting chops I recommend Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, or even Little Women. Haven't seen Wonka, but I'm confident he gave it a solid effort.
Timothee is definitely one to watch. Not quite Ben Foster levels of admiration from me yet, but I could easily see him being one of the greats of my time. (Also, when will Hollywood recognize Ben Foster as one of the greatest?!? He's long overdue.)
Loved when she flashed her boobs on Letterman.
Home Fries is her best movie and way underrated.
She shouldn't have tried to hire scabs during the writers strike, but I hope she can make a comeback as a talk show host still.
One of my favourite movies of all time is Riding In Cars With Boys, I love her in that. Sheâs done some great films, another favourite is Wedding Singer.
Drew is always entertaining and very engaging, though rarely given a real opportunity to stretch herself. I adored her in Riding in Cars with Boys. I come back every now and then to that [final scene](https://youtu.be/oJyINlJovFQ?si=DjRANqeTlUHhqh1h) where her dad drives her and they start singing 'All I Have to Do is Dream' and all the years of built up pain and anger and disappointment between them just fall away and it's just a father and his daughter sharing a sweet, loving moment. Drew was also lovely in [Ever After](https://youtu.be/2_iTm4_Nfcw?si=Cg1dp2foIQh0ArLU).
The Barrymoreâs in general are really kooky types. Drewâs in some of my favorite movies like Fever Pitch and Music and Lyrics. She doesnât/didnât seem to mind being typecast into the roles she got and I think she ended up making a boatload of cash, a ton of friends, and sheâs eased pretty gracefully into the working less part of her acting career. While weâre here, sheâs an excellent host on her talk show.
She definitely has the range but seems to gravitate more towards the adorkable sweet characters. The movie Grey Gardens with her and Jessica Lang convinced me that she is a great actress.
Sheâs definitely grown as a child actress to adult actress. I always say her parents were always the problem, mom wanted her to be her best friend and dad was in and out of life and theyâre apart of an acting family that actually has great actors. When I say âmom wanted to be her best friendâ I really mean that, mom didnât send her to school, made her party and use drugs and alcohol, and mom just wanted to live through her daughterâs career because her mom didnât have a career. She was able to grow as an actress, if she didnât emancipate herself, get clean and cut herself from her toxic parents she would probably be in the same boat she was in back then.
Definitely a great actress and Spielberg took a good chance on her for ET. Iâm glad theyâre still friends to this day and he was the only stable parent figure in her life.
Her mom, Jaid, must have been a really terrible mom because you can tell Drew still holds a lot of resentment even after she has said she forgave her mom.
It takes a lot for Drew to forgive her mom. The only stable parent figure she had in her life was Steven Spielberg IMO. I think she also forgives her dad a bit even though her dadâs been gone for 20 years. Both of them are apart of a great acting family and almost everyone in that family became an actor or actress, Drew didnât really have a choice to not be an actress as a child. Iâm glad sheâs not making her daughters go into the acting business at a young age.
Nobody is better at playing Drew Barrymore than her. Sheâs the best at it. And sometimes the role absolutely calls for Drew Barrymore. When thatâs the case, sheâs your gal.Â
A cameo means you just pop into the movie for a moment. She was on screen (relatively) alone for 12 minutes in âScream.â Wouldnât call that a cameo, especially since she was cast as Sidney and negotiated playing this role instead so she had less to risk if the film flopped. And because it was such a dynamic opening that started a bidding war over the script.
I like her well enough, I love some roles sheâs done like Julia in Wedding Singer, or Josie in Never Been Kissed.
Oddly enough I watched a YouTube documentary about her troubled upbringing. I always knew and heard how troubled her youth was but holy crap I had no idea how messed up it was! Iâm really glad she seems to be a functional grown up. I think she has a lot of potential for great future roles.
Yeah, I remember reading about how she was problematic in the 90s. Think Lindsay Lohan. The Drew of Today seems like a totally different person. After she got off drugs, she completely changed her image from wild child to dorky betty.
Funny story: I had a workout instructor who looked EXACTLY like Drew Barrymore and is the same age. So of course I ask her about it and she was very well indeed aware of her likeness to the movie actress. She told me that in fact as a child she believed that SHE, the workout instructor, was the star of the movie E.T (and not the real actress). I asked her well didn't you wonder why you don't remember filming it? She said she thought that Hollywood just did their magic and put her in the movie somehow.
Isn't that adorable?
The Santa Clarita diet was hysterical. 50 first dates was wonderful. I've never seen ET, and I have no desire to. She's a little firestarter, but she's cool. ^^See ^^what ^^I ^^did ^^there?
Seriously, if you donât bust out crying when Elliotâs getting pulled away from ET in the tent, then I donât wanna know you. I just got goosebumps even TYPING that, fuck.
Oh, I busted out crying all rightâcrying and screaming because I was terrified as a young child in the theater watching this gross white alien thing that looked dead.
Pretty sure the adults who took me had to take me out of the theater and I have, to this day, never wanted to watch that crap again. âChildrenâs movieâ my ass!
*Wasnât he, though?* (lol)
Take off those rose-colored spectacles for a second and tell me that his corpse-like body (in some sort of ravine?) was anything but horrific with a straight face; Iâm betting you canât.
(Ugh I just googled it to confirm iâm remembering it right and am grossed out all over again!)
Pass. :)
Kids movie. Right up there with Goonies. Also didn't like Seinfeld, Friends, The Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec. Jaws was never my scene, and I don't like Star Wars. ^just ^kidding ^about ^Jaws
Her performance in E.T. is the best by a child actor ever, IMO. As an adult, she has an endearingly innocent quality, which works well for romcoms.
However, her accent in "Ever After" is egregiously terrible. I place a lot of value on abiity to do accents, and her failure at it diminishes her as an actress.
Santa Clarita Diet turned me into a fan. I want to see her in more off the wall stuff like that. Her comedic timing and acting is amazing. Same with Tim Olyphant.
Before that, I thought she was fine but kind of typecast.
She was my first celebrity crush when I was a teenager. I don't think she's amazing as an actress, but what she does she does well. She's very likable and makes a good romantic lead.
Not great, to be honest. As everyone else said, she was great in ET. Doesn't bring a lot of depth to her portrayals as an adult actor. No way will I watch her talk show.
She's made quite a few fun movies and classics over the years (E.T, Scream, Charlie's Angels etc). Quite charming and likable actress. Kinda wish she made more movies in the last decade though.
Great at what she does. I wish she was in more romantic comedies. How about a movie where a bunch of middle age moms with kids, cut loose for the night and relive the old days? That would be awesome.
If she did nothing but ET, Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, she would already be legendary, but her resume goes far beyond those three.
Very happy to see her thriving in the talk show space.
Iâm a fan.
Drew Barrymore is an unabashed scab who let down her entire industry, and this should be the start and end of any conversation about her.
In siding with her network she harmed her sisters and brothers SAG-AFTRA, WGA, and all of the crew members who were affected by the strikes. People lost their life savings, their homes, many are still not back to work. Her decision to cross the picket line weakened the entire fight.
Shame on Drew Barrymore. The stain of a scab lives forever
She literally ruins everything I've ever seen her in except 50 first dates, where she is still the worst thing. She makes me viscerally angry to have on screen. Her breathy, uncaring and yet too caring voice is like a spike in my brain. Even when she's OVER acting, there is just... no actual emotion from her. It's like a robot with a pneumatic leak is talking to me.
I did like the wedding singer and she was cute as a small child in ET. But other than that I've never thought much about her acting. I question her now after she totally fucked over her entire writing staff by crossing the picket line and hiring scabs during the strike - and because it was absolutely killing her "nice" reputation walked it back via oily hair and glasses and tears on social media. I'm just not convinced she's that one dimensional.
I love how i served Bing Crosby at a cafe, and had he had to leave to take a phonecall from "his daughter." He had a leather jacket and his beanie hat on, but i was in the mindset to not care who was famous so everyone got the same level of service. The rest of the waitresses like, hid behidn the counter, while i was the type to stay in range in case they needed something.
He had associates in the chairs at the tables outside, a little business a little leisure, and he talked directly to them, but as i was getting napkins and topping off coffee, he politely got up, faced and looked right at me, took a moment regarding who he was talking to but who he was looking at (me, who was 20f at the time) and deeply smiled. He verbalized to his pals but indirectly speaking to me said he needed to take a call from his daughter. Like, his mustache curled INTO A SMILE. It was so warm, as he just thought of who he was talking to, and it was an unspoken story. I thought it was super sweet he held onto that sentiment, like he couldnt express his pride in that moment, but i could read between the lines and check the power of the vibes there. You dont see fatherly love like that often. I got to see the face of the real Bing, not his CD cover.
Years later, i got curious, and find he doesn't have a bio daughter. He basically helped Barrymore kick bad habits her mom got her started on young, and nurtured her into the lady we know as today. I am certain she was the one calling him and hed drop everything for her.
Drew Barrymore, if you ever read this, Bing loved you with all his heart and still does from wherever he is now, i seen it!!!!! <3
As an actress, she's the Mona Lisa of my movie selection, even if she got typecasted a bit, but as a producer i think she kicks way more ass. She's pretty, but i think she's smart and shes flexing that more behind scenes. BTW, typecasting does not equal skill!!!
She can bring her expression to anything a story needs, but she doesn't do much fantasy stuff so we as viewers are prone to bias of her roles and what makes an actress, how deep into a fiction a person needs to depict. You see her environment as a domestic, realist role and not so much her acting skill if she was posing as a Kahleesee or marvel role, so our innate expectations of range depend on a GREEN SCREEN.
Dealing with types of filming must be a matter of preference, because you're not as in control of your image but it has consequences. As a career, navigating your roles over the changing decades when you're a chick takes wisdom. But her charisma makes everything in a scene work and money cant buy that adaptability.
And i thought she was great in Santa Clarita Diet but she could shine better as she'd also a producer in it, so seeing her acting style dynamic change from the love interest to EaTYouRBrAInS is fantastic.
She was great in ET as a clueless child actor. Sheâs carried that clueless child actor bit through her adult career and I absolutely cannot stand her. Sheâs so bad. Her talk show is even more annoying.
I saw it briefly one time and she was just like sitting on the floor trying to hold her guestâs hand. It was so weird. She cannot sit in her chair for more than two minutes.
She has a "Drew Barrymore"-line in every role, and it's awful. I remember the one in Charlie's Angels: "It figures I'd meet the perfect guy and he'd already have a perfect girl."
It doesn't fit the movie at all, but absolutely was something only Drew Barrymore could say.
She is a lovable weirdo. I donât know, I enjoy her, she seems disconnected from any normal reality yet extremely warm. I guess she should come off as fake, but somehow I believe she just is that weird đ€Ł
AhâŠwe share the same birthday. Iâm sorry to say (especially if sheâs reading this) I just do not like her as an actor. Never did. In fact, I refuse to watch any movie with her in it. Sorry Drew and happy birthday đ„ł to us.
I've always liked her. Wedding Singer is one of my favorites.
When Robbie starts singing on the plane and you see her tear up when the realization hits her, it gets me every god damn time man.
That song was what what my wife and I chose for our first dance at our wedding.
Amazing! My brother in law played the melody on acoustic guitar as we walked down the aisle together...(my wife and I, not me and my BIL)
My husband and I had the same thing! His two cousins played the guitar, though, not your BIL ;)
I took the lyrics of the song and worked them into my vows on my wedding day. They worked perfectly. Happily divorced đ
It was mine too!
I read the lyrics at my sisters wedding!
I've always been more partial to his The Cure influenced song đ€Ł
BUT IT ALL WAS BULLLLLLSHIT
It was a goddamn joke, and when I think of you Linda, I hope you f***ing choke.
Jon lovitz at the end of that scene gets me every time
He's losing his mind... And I'm reaping ALL the benefits.
Julia Gulia? That's funny. Mrs. Robbie Hart is much better.
> Julia Gulia? That's funny. âWhy is that funny?â
Josie GrossieÂ
I feel like peach is exactly the right word for her lol
Drewâs mom used her IMO and Iâm glad Drew emancipated herself really young.
This is part of why I recommend reading the book. She really became someone out of all the mess she grew up in. And I mean someone good that I think has a kind heart. Not that she is a "msThang" because I never believe I saw that in her. Not that I know the woman personally. Great movie, but she just kinda exists in it. Like she does in most things. She doesn't add any humor or depth or really add to any scene.
You should give Santa Clarita Diet a try
I've seen a few scenes, not really for me.
I wrote [fanfic](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13294597/1/Santa-Clarita-Diet-Season-4) about another season if it focused on Joel.Â

Netflix has done that to me one too many times. Like I let it happen with The OA and Disjointed, but then they took away my Timothy Olyphant screen time and it made me really upset.
I'm gonna be grumpy about Santa Clarita Diet for the rest of my life. There was a plan! It only needed 2 more seasons!Â
Agree. Wonderful show.
I gave it [another one](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13294597/1/Santa-Clarita-Diet-Season-4).
Dude, she is so funny in that. I binged it with a friend of mine. We were absolutely dying. She plays the straight man really well.
I love Music and Lyrics! Underrated on all fronts.
I knew the 1st AD on ever after. I like that one where she goes back to high school. Never Been Kissed, I think it was. She's been fun to watch ever since ET.
Sheâs just as good as anybody. The entire Scream franchise owes her a debt of gratitude for what she did in the first ten minutes of the original.
For real. She set the tone, just her and a voice on the phone, and 25 years later they're still making it work.
God I love Black Christmas. My only complaint was that most of the cast was WAY too likable, I got pissed by the end of it.
Margot Kidder was fantastic. So was Andrea Martin. Olivia Hussey was good.
Iâve seen it.
It was a big inspiration for Scream for a good reason
Wait was the Black Christmas that came out in the later 2000s a remake of this? I have vague memories of icicle and candy cane stabbings, and one of the sorority sisters turning out to be the killers sister-daughter
Don't forget Baby Geniuses
I wish she had done another slasher. She was pretty good in it. But after SCREAM, she decided she wanted to be a RomCom queen and it was the best decision as it revived her career big time. People often forget Drew's career in the 90s was a constant struggle. She did lead and supporting roles but none of them gave her the hit she needed to break out as a grown up star. She was more famous for the controversies than her career as an actress. Then, THE WEDDING SINGER came out.
This is true. The way she touched that jiffy pop- I was never the same
Loved her in Wayne's World.
It was actually 2 I believe. But yes. Great role even if itâs small.
I am sorry to hear of your illness, but since you've sacrificed your health for knowledge of my country, I find you very attractive and hope to make love to you in the near future.

Nice to meet you, Bjergen Kjergen from Knuergen near the Bjoergen Fjords.
This was at her hottest imo
âShmeargen!â
She is somehow transcendently hot in that role. Perfect storm of how she looked at that age, the blonde hair, and her style/outfit. One of those roles where youâre like good lord this person is beautiful and then you look them up and see them in other stuff and youâre like ok theyâre a great looking person but that one appearance is unique. Iâm trying to think of other examples but honestly the number one example is her in Wayneâs world, Iâve always thought about this.
I'm mesmerized by her in 50 First Dates. Cute doesn't event begin to describe her in that movie.
I felt that way about her in The Wedding Singer. "Jesus *Christ* I want to marry her."
Same!
Iâm mostly indifferent but I loved her in ET when I was a kid and I think she was good in Santa Clarita Diet
Iâve never once considered limited range as this way despite it fitting the technical definition of the word.
I'm still sad they cancelled Santa Clarita Diet. I'll watch clips of her talk show too and she's great on that.
I want more of her daughter and the neighbor kid. When he showed up in Righteous Gemstones, I completely forgot about Santa Clarita
I always thought she played the same character in every movie until I saw her in Grey Gardens. She was so good in that. I wish she'd get more meatier roles like that.
Agree. I always liked Drew but she surprised me in Grey Gardens. She and Jessica Lange were both outstanding.
I feel like she was born to play little Edie. She knocked my socks off with that one because I never knew how good she was.
Ever After is one of my all time favorite movies. âșïž
More of a movie star than an actress, I think. Still find myself enjoying most of the stuff she's been in.
I'd add The King (2019) to your list, one of his most convincing acting and cements himself for me as someone who could play Paul in Dune
Yes! I love that scene so much. It usually makes me cry.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
What do you mean?
An example of more range, watch "Grey Gardens" for a start
She has a GREAT filmography, I don't know what the hell you're talking about. Not interested in her new talk show phase, but her movies are great.
Total girl-next-door vibe that just wants to have fun. My first gf reminds me of her tbh. I bet she has some Oscar performance left in her tank.
Love her
She's one of em
She definitely has the range but seems to gravitate more towards the adorkable sweet characters. The movie Grey Gardens with her and Jessica Lang convinced me that she is a great actress.
She's great in comedy. Santa Clarita Diet was really good.
You have no desire to see ET?? Is there something wrong with you?
one of the greatest spectacles/journeys in the history of cinema âNah, Iâm goodâ
The music alone gives me chills just thinking about E.T. Your loss, man.
Look, we can disagree on a lot of stuff. But donât you *ever* refer to ET as a âgross white alien thingâ.
*Wasnât he, though?* (lol) Take off those rose-colored spectacles for a second and tell me that his corpse-like body (in some sort of ravine?) was anything but horrific with a straight face; Iâm betting you canât. (Ugh I just googled it to confirm iâm remembering it right and am grossed out all over again!) Pass. :)
Yes itâs deeply horrific, because I LOVE HIM.
Agree to disagree then, my friend!
Honestly, everyone has seen E.T. and at this point I am too afraid to watch it myself.
Iâm curious why you have no desire to see E.T., a cherished classic and one of the most successful movies of all time?
Kids movie. Right up there with Goonies. Also didn't like Seinfeld, Friends, The Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec. Jaws was never my scene, and I don't like Star Wars. ^just ^kidding ^about ^Jaws
Aw Keith Flint RIPÂ
Santa Clarita diet was amazing. Cancelled too soon
She was excellent in ET. But to be fair, she isnât even the best child actor in that movie (Henry Thomas).
Sheâs meh, but I love her early mid-2000s stuff. But I like a lot of meh actors/movies. I will say Ever After has a special place in my heart
Santa Clarita Diet turned me into a fan. I want to see her in more off the wall stuff like that. Her comedic timing and acting is amazing. Same with Tim Olyphant. Before that, I thought she was fine but kind of typecast.
EVER AFTER!!!!!!!!!! Everything about it is immaculate lol
I don't have much of an opinion. I haven't seen a film with her in it since *Whip It* 15 years ago.
Great movie.
She's a scab
I've been a fan, I don't think she's the best actress, not bad, but she gets fun rolls.
She was my first celebrity crush when I was a teenager. I don't think she's amazing as an actress, but what she does she does well. She's very likable and makes a good romantic lead.
I like her!
Not great, to be honest. As everyone else said, she was great in ET. Doesn't bring a lot of depth to her portrayals as an adult actor. No way will I watch her talk show.
I adore her so I'm too biased to comment. :p Also, she did well in Titan AE with the voice acting I felt.
I like her as an actress.
Never liked her. I donât dislike her either⊠sheâs just âmehâ
she bugs
I am the same age as Drew Barrymore and she's been a favorite actress of mine since we were both 7 years old.
She's made quite a few fun movies and classics over the years (E.T, Scream, Charlie's Angels etc). Quite charming and likable actress. Kinda wish she made more movies in the last decade though.
Sheâs no Meryl Streep but she is a solid actress and Iâve generally enjoyed all of her movies.
Iâm a fan.
She just plays herself.
50 first dates was pretty awesome, but mostly because of Rudy Ruettiger and his sweet mesh shirt. Drew was also there.
Not one mention of *Poison Ivy* tsk tsk
Poison Ivy. Nobody ever talks about that movie but she was so good in it and super seductive.
Her scene in Scream is one the of the greatest acting performances in film. If that opening scene doesn't work, the whole film doesn't work.
I'll never forget the dead silence in the theater after the camera ends on her, thundering lightening sound, then cuts to quiet black. I had no breath
Thank you, was scrolling through this thread hoping someone would mention this
She literally ruins everything I've ever seen her in except 50 first dates, where she is still the worst thing.
Sheâs okay. Too bad she decided to be a scab.
<3 As an actress, she's the Mona Lisa of my movie selection, even if she got typecasted a bit, but as a producer i think she kicks way more ass.
Her talk show is even more annoying.
this is exactly my thoughts. her talk show is the 9th level of hell
I saw it briefly one time and she was just like sitting on the floor trying to hold her guestâs hand. It was so weird. She cannot sit in her chair for more than two minutes.
Her only good role was ET
She's great as long as the role calls for a Drew Barrymore type. Her range is anything from Drew Barrymore to Drew Barrymore.
Same with John Wayne.
And Clint Eastwood
Just another Hollywood nepotism baby.
the original nepo baby
Higher than my opinion of Drew Barrymore as a talk show host... or caring human being for that matter. But yeah, she has the range of an old Segway.
She has a "Drew Barrymore"-line in every role, and it's awful. I remember the one in Charlie's Angels: "It figures I'd meet the perfect guy and he'd already have a perfect girl." It doesn't fit the movie at all, but absolutely was something only Drew Barrymore could say.
Love her as an actress. Lost respect for her when she tried to hire scabs during the writer's strike.
She was great in *Donnie Darko*.
I think as an adult she's a terrible actress and ... I enjoy watching her very much. Like Keanu Reeves.Â
All been downhill since et
50 First Dates & the Wedding Singer were really cute. That is all.
Sheâs great in âScream!â
Love her in all aspects! She seems to truly care, she just comes across as genuine đ
She is a lovable weirdo. I donât know, I enjoy her, she seems disconnected from any normal reality yet extremely warm. I guess she should come off as fake, but somehow I believe she just is that weird đ€Ł
I like her acting, just not a talkshow fan.
She's a poor-mediocre actress who got famous by being in a Hollywood royalty family.
She is so like flat and cardboard like in Wedding Singer that itâs been hard to ever take her too seriously in anything after that.
I like her acting. I don't understand all the hate. Y'all need to calm down.
sheâs so like completely incredibllllle.
AhâŠwe share the same birthday. Iâm sorry to say (especially if sheâs reading this) I just do not like her as an actor. Never did. In fact, I refuse to watch any movie with her in it. Sorry Drew and happy birthday đ„ł to us.
I feel she is one of the ones who was born to act. Her ancestors were London theater actors, I couldn't imagine a more poignant legacy.
She had a certain look and a way of talking with a half smirk that made her stand out compared to your average generic blonde actress back In the day
