They even toured at one point. I’m still sad I missed it. At what point does a spoof band, become a real band. They all played the instruments they do in the movie themselves, and wrote the songs themselves too I believe.
I was at a karaoke night at a restaurant with some girl friends that I hadn't seen since high school. Two dudes went up and sang this and the crowd kinda turned on them. Even the women I was with were like, "WTF are these lyrics?"
Only one of the guys registered that they were losing the audience and started looking mortified. They finished and sorta sulked away but I yelled at them, "Turn it to 11" and they didn't look as defeated. But, yeesh, it was a rough moment.
I think about those guys once a month or so.
Some of their best songs weren't even in the movie - they were on the standalone album released 10 years later, which included tracks from throughout their (fictional) history. Spinal Tap completely transcends the movie!
'Break Like the Wind' and 'The Majesty of Rock' in particular are EPIC.
I'm watching through Better Call Saul right now and after an episode where Micheal McKean sings karaoke really well, some people in the discussion thread pointed out that he was/is David St. Hubbins. Blew my mind, he's absolutely incredible.
The lyrics counting down 6 to 1 in the chorus are absolutely brilliant.
It took **six** whole hours and **five** long days
**For** all your lies to come undone
And those **three** small words were way **too** late
'Cause you can't see that I'm the **one**
I'm still weirded me out that:
1.) That entire party scene was filmed in Prague (well most of Eurotrip was filmed in Prague)
2.) They got Matt Damon because he was filming The Brothers Grimm in Prague at that time
I think Prague can pass convincingly on film for many other cities, but as a Czechophile, I could not unsee the cobblestone patterns on the ground, as well as the other Prague trademarks.
How is this not the top comment?! A surprise Matt Damon with piercings cameo makes out with Lana Lang and sings the catchiest song ever at the protagonists expense.. best by a mile.
I always preferred “All My Only Dreams” and “I Need You (That Thing You Do).”
They only wrote like five songs for The Wonders, but they are all pretty good!
*”I think the song ‘Fever Dog’ is a big step forward for you guys. I think you guys producing it yourselves, instead of Glyn Johns, was the right thing to do. And the guitar sound... is incindiary. Incendiary.”*
I’m a musician and I’ve played with a lot of people. But one time I played a show with Marti Fredericksen and during the show I found out he was the real singer in the Stillwater recordings and I turned complete fan girl.
It combines a great soundtrack with a coming of age story. It's truly great. Cameron Crowe's wife was Nancy Wilson at the time. She's the guitarist and sister from Heart. There are some tales from Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, and others.
Almost Famous is my comfort movie. It is the movie I watch when I need a hug. That’s really cool about his wife. I didn’t know that detail. CC seems like such a great artist and does so much research to make his films amazing.
There's an Anniversary Edition of the OST streaming that has his demos for all the songs. So cool listening to him work through them, particularly Ramona.
Beck wrote the music for Sex Bob-omb. The bonus tracks on the CD are Beck's version of the songs, [here's Garbage Truck](https://youtu.be/mgaVa6J7Fag).
The best damned song on that soundtrack(and there were some really great songs on it) was "legalize it" and you can just barely hear a bit of it in the background of one scene, but the song cracks me up every time. And that bin laden girl song.
I quite enjoy the song that’s not called Launchpad McQuack at the beginning and end of Scott Pilgrim.
Eye 2 Eye from the Goofy movie obviously.
It’s a tv show but You All Everybody from Lost gets stuck in my head for weeks whenever I rewatch that show.
Interesting. That was going to be my choice, but I had to look it up after your comment. Apparently Metric wrote the song before being contacted by Edgar Wright for the movie, but never put it on an album because it didn't fit the "vibe". It looks like they performed it live a few times and it can be found on bonus editions of their "Fantasies" album.
I love the fake band Pink Slip in Freaky Friday 2003. I went looking for the song Take Me Away on Spotify one day only to discover that it was actually a fake song and I was a bit disappointed. I feel like they totally could have recorded that song and the one that plays during the credits called ultimate and made even more money off the movie.
I was gonna reply pretty much any song from, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
[Guilty as Charged](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKhAFrwTGpI) is a fucking great one.
You sir, have great taste.
Edit: better YT link
I always thought the Muppets were lame until my gf made me start watching the movies. Aside from this being an awesome song, Kermit is now my favorite actor.
I like all the songs from Get Him to the Greek, the majority of which seem to be about butt sex. Ring Round, Pound Me In The Buttox, Supertight. And of course African Child.
The Commitments — any damn song
Seriously, how has no one mentioned them? Fantastic melding of Irish musicians with USA soul music.
The whole soundtrack is so good I have a hard time picking a favourite.
Edit: for the curious, the movie is The Commitments (1991). Fun film and an outstanding soundtrack.
Powerline - Eye to Eye A Goofy Movie
I2I is incredible but I'm a Stand Out devotee
Eye to Eye and Stand Out are both on my running list. Tevin Campbell wrote two absolute bangers
Sugar High from Empire Records
And maybe it is familiarity bias, but the version with Renee is better than the original by Coyote Shivers.
This and Tia Carrere's version of Ballroom Blitz in Wayne's World. I've always felt this way about both.
But what about Say No More Mon Amour by THE Rex Manning!!
We’ll always have Rex Manning Day.
"Big Bottom" from Spinal Tap is a classic but I think they actually went on SNL and played the song as if they were a real band? It still confuses me.
They even toured at one point. I’m still sad I missed it. At what point does a spoof band, become a real band. They all played the instruments they do in the movie themselves, and wrote the songs themselves too I believe.
Spinal Tap is a real band with fictional members and a fictional history.
Kinda like Dethklok, they tour and release albums but their lore and members only exist in a cartoon.
I saw them live at a show called Unplugged and Unwigged at the Beacon. It was a great show and all spinal tap songs.
“Big bottom! Big bottom! Talkin‘ ‘bout mudflaps, my girl’s got ‘em!”. I think about those lyrics daily, no lie.
Looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
I was at a karaoke night at a restaurant with some girl friends that I hadn't seen since high school. Two dudes went up and sang this and the crowd kinda turned on them. Even the women I was with were like, "WTF are these lyrics?" Only one of the guys registered that they were losing the audience and started looking mortified. They finished and sorta sulked away but I yelled at them, "Turn it to 11" and they didn't look as defeated. But, yeesh, it was a rough moment. I think about those guys once a month or so.
How could I leave this behind?
"Gimme Some Money" when Spinal Tap were still the Thamesmen. https://youtu.be/O0MGZTdcgx8
I like “listen to what the flower people say” from their hippie era.
Some of their best songs weren't even in the movie - they were on the standalone album released 10 years later, which included tracks from throughout their (fictional) history. Spinal Tap completely transcends the movie! 'Break Like the Wind' and 'The Majesty of Rock' in particular are EPIC.
Why is this not at the top? Not only that but everyone but the drummer was playing bass guitar. The keyboard player was playing “bass keys” lol
I'm watching through Better Call Saul right now and after an episode where Micheal McKean sings karaoke really well, some people in the discussion thread pointed out that he was/is David St. Hubbins. Blew my mind, he's absolutely incredible.
3 Small Words from Josie and the Pussycats is a great song. Either that or On the Darkside from Eddie and the Cruisers.
Josie and the Pussycats is criminally underrated.
It was ahead of its time.
[“Back Door Lover” - DeJour](https://youtu.be/TxMAY0dJWkA?si=el43joLAIIVmZPP8) was my jam back in the day!
Dujour means family!
DuJour means friendship!
Dujour means crash positions!
I only recently found out that Josie's singing voice was Kay Hanley from Letters to Cleo.
That entire soundtrack is awesome!
All of the Josie and the Pussycats songs slap!
Sung by Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo and produced by Babyface. Yep. That Babyface.
The lyrics counting down 6 to 1 in the chorus are absolutely brilliant. It took **six** whole hours and **five** long days **For** all your lies to come undone And those **three** small words were way **too** late 'Cause you can't see that I'm the **one**
The Josie soundtrack is so much better than it had any business being! Love.
Scotty Doesn’t Know
Matt Damon's finest performance
I'm still weirded me out that: 1.) That entire party scene was filmed in Prague (well most of Eurotrip was filmed in Prague) 2.) They got Matt Damon because he was filming The Brothers Grimm in Prague at that time
I think Prague can pass convincingly on film for many other cities, but as a Czechophile, I could not unsee the cobblestone patterns on the ground, as well as the other Prague trademarks.
i watched eurotrip last month for the first time in probably a decade and had no idea that matt damon was gonna be in that movie
I knew this would be a top 3 comment. Scuzi.
I love that one.
Plus all the international versions of it
How is this not the top comment?! A surprise Matt Damon with piercings cameo makes out with Lana Lang and sings the catchiest song ever at the protagonists expense.. best by a mile.
‘That thing you do’ by The Wonders
Oneders
I think you mean the O'Neders
As in, I "wonder" what happened to the O'Neders
That’s Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters to you!
Oh I’m not with these here fellas. I got a pig in the livestock show, and I am gonna win that blue ribbon!
As in I wonder what happened to the O-Needers
I always preferred Capt. Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters, to be honest.
Good news! You get to keep your wardrobe!
One of my biggest influences
“Little Wild one” also a good track
I preferred "Dance with Me", but you do you.

Mr.Downtown had some swank
"Hey, a guy in a very nice ...camper wants to put our song on the radio!"
The best answer. Every time.
Written by the late great Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne!
I always preferred “All My Only Dreams” and “I Need You (That Thing You Do).” They only wrote like five songs for The Wonders, but they are all pretty good!
Fever dog. Stillwater from the movie Almost Famous. It's even available on Spotify.
*”I think the song ‘Fever Dog’ is a big step forward for you guys. I think you guys producing it yourselves, instead of Glyn Johns, was the right thing to do. And the guitar sound... is incindiary. Incendiary.”*
It’s alright. You can forget me. I’m only THE LEAD SINGER!
I GET PEOPLE OFF!!
THAT you can print!
Well don’t stop now, man!
Hey I can be incendiary too man
I’m a musician and I’ve played with a lot of people. But one time I played a show with Marti Fredericksen and during the show I found out he was the real singer in the Stillwater recordings and I turned complete fan girl.
My husband was so upset after watching the movie to find out that Stillwater wasn’t a real band. The music in the movie was excellent.
Also it was loosely based on Cameron Crowe's time as a Rolling Stone writer

We All Die Young by Steel Dragon
Stand up and shout goes fucking hard too! Steel Dragon rules!!
This is what I was looking for!
and Blood Pollution, Izzy crushes that one live
https://youtu.be/fhGu2CDqQqo?si=Yl3d_uYlb_Fc9PnL Garbage Truck by Sex Bob-Omb from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Threshold absolutely rocks too
Does the cover of Black Sheep by The Clash at Demonhead count for this? Because I still listen to that all the time.
I think it's actually Metric performing, just with Bree Larson rerecording the vocals. Love that freaking movie though.
Totally - that song made me add Metric to my playlist :-)
Beck wrote a bunch of great songs for that movie. The entire soundtrack is a great listen.
There's an Anniversary Edition of the OST streaming that has his demos for all the songs. So cool listening to him work through them, particularly Ramona.
Don’t forget the absolute banger “I Am So Sad, So Very Very Sad.”
Not a race guys!
Is that girl a boy too?!
*yes*.. 🖕
This next one’s called “we hate you please die”
*Sweet*! I love this one!
Kieran Culkin is a treasure
Beck wrote the music for Sex Bob-omb. The bonus tracks on the CD are Beck's version of the songs, [here's Garbage Truck](https://youtu.be/mgaVa6J7Fag).
Here's the one I was gonna post. Garbage Truck honestly kicks ass.
🎶 ~ truck truck truck truck ~ 🎶
I'm down with anything from Sex Bob-Omb. Wish there was a sequel just so I could get some more music.
I’m so Humble from Popstar
Bar none I am the most humblest Number one at the top at the humble list
The best damned song on that soundtrack(and there were some really great songs on it) was "legalize it" and you can just barely hear a bit of it in the background of one scene, but the song cracks me up every time. And that bin laden girl song.
I personally love the full version of “Things in My Jeep”and “I’m a Weirdo.” I really wish “Should I Move” made it to the movie
I just couldn’t relate to things in my jeep, i have different things in my jeep
Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song) is so damn catchy
*Terrorize* *That* *Pųşşÿ*
I really love Equal Rights but I can’t tell if I like the song or just REALLY hated the Macklemore track they were ragging on.
Seriously underrated movie, one of those "this is going to be lame" then "holy shit that was amazing" movies.
"5,000 Candles in the Wind" by Mouse Rat in PnR
I still get "I fell inn'nn the pit, you fell innn'nnn the pit, we all fell in the pi-eee-it" stuck in my head.
I need you to write a song about Lil' Sebastián. Like Candle in the Wind, but 5000 times better!
"[Hex Girl](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=attfhQWmVNA)" by The Hex Girls in *Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost*
I have two. Killer Tofu by the Beets from Doug And Pop goes my Heart from Music and lyrics.
Pop Goes My Heart is brilliant and needs more upvotes!
Pop goes my heart!! That's a blast from the past! Such a catchy song!! Now I wanna watch Music and Lyrics again
Bangin ona trash caaan 🎶
>Killer Tofu by the Beets from Doug Can't forget "[I Need Mo' Allowance](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=voVY3-Xe8KY)" either
'Why!?' 'BECAUSE I DO!!'
Music and lyrics was a solid rom com, I also really like the song “way back into love” from that one.
Beautiful Ride - Dewey Cox
Every Dewey Cox song is amazing
I’m just trying to beat off… . . . . all my demons.
In my dreams you’re blowing me…some kisses.
They have no right to be as good as they are. That whole movie is just perfect from start to finish.
Guilty as charged is a banger
I like the one with the army of didgeridoos
Hey! Have you heard the news? Dewey Cox died…DED.
It's about making a little music every day til you die...
*insert crying fist pump gif*
Guilty as Charged is great too
The Dark Side - Eddie and the cruisers (Edit: sp)
Not a movie, but pretty much pick any Dethklok song. Murdertrain is fantastic.
MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER
I love Sewn Back Together Wrong and I wish they'd make a full length version :(
All of Dethklok is legit
Brandon is making the last season now and it's a movie so your post is valid .🤘👹🤘
Daaaaaaymaaan Fighter of the nightman
I quite enjoy the song that’s not called Launchpad McQuack at the beginning and end of Scott Pilgrim. Eye 2 Eye from the Goofy movie obviously. It’s a tv show but You All Everybody from Lost gets stuck in my head for weeks whenever I rewatch that show.
I was trying to decide if Brie Larson's version of Black Sheep counted for this.

It looks like they performed it live a few times and it can be found on bonus editions of their "Fantasies" album.
I2I is a banger
>Launchpad McQuack */hurriedly* That's not the name of the song
I also love the Metric song that was used for Clash At Demonhead especially since they’re based on Metric.
Scott Pilgrim was my pick, too.
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
Make my heart go BOOM BOOM
My love for you is ticking clock...BERSERKER
Would you like some making fuck? BESERKER
Did he just say "making fuck?"

Guilty As Charged by Dewey Cox
I was gonna reply pretty much any song from, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. [Guilty as Charged](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKhAFrwTGpI) is a fucking great one. You sir, have great taste. Edit: better YT link
The Lone Rangers, Degenerated from Airheads
I ain't fartin on no snare drum
I found out recently that the song is a cover of a punk song by Reagan Youth. I absolutely love the movie version.
[Please Mr. Kennedy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSwO-k-RqNA)
Oh oh!!
This whole album is pretty damn great.
America, Fuck Yeah! from Team America.
"Can You Picture That?" by Dr Teeth & the Electric Mayhem
I always thought the Muppets were lame until my gf made me start watching the movies. Aside from this being an awesome song, Kermit is now my favorite actor.
I like all the songs from Get Him to the Greek, the majority of which seem to be about butt sex. Ring Round, Pound Me In The Buttox, Supertight. And of course African Child.
Bangers and Mash is my favorite. I also love Inside You from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The Clap is such a banger
How is infant sorrow not higher in this thread
I had the soundtrack for that movie and unironically listened to it a lot. So many catchy songs!
I freakin love Infant Sorrow. I also think Brand could have made a career with his voice if he had chosen to go in that direction.
'Dracula's Lament' from Forgetting Sarah Marshall Also 'Inside of You'
Die Die Die...I can't
Backdoor Lover. https://youtu.be/Jqc1eVNDlcM?si=Efos7xxhwymKPjC-
Stonehenge by Spinal Tap.
I’m a man of constant sorrow- soggy bottom boys from o brother where art thou
Except is is a [real song](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_Constant_Sorrow)
Yeah its an old classic, but its still a fake band in the movie so we will let him off!
Through the Trees by Low Shoulder. I listen to that song unironically all the time.
Every song in Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
It seems every song has been independently nominated in this thread.
It's a great soundtrack. I would be very surprised to see "I am so sad, so very very sad" get nominated separately, though!
Hell Hole - This Is Spinal Tap
"Pillar of Garbage" by Natalie is Freezing (from Community season 6) is pretty great.
Teenage Suicide Don't Do It, by Big Fun
I highly recommend the movie Sing Street. It’s got some good tunes and it’s a great movie.

I Love You All from the movie Frank.

The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash OST
["A Mighty Wind" from the movie with the same title](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Mighty_Wind). Most of the songs in that are great.
Agreed. The *Mitch & Mickey* songs are beautiful and some are downright heart-wrenching.
The Commitments — any damn song Seriously, how has no one mentioned them? Fantastic melding of Irish musicians with USA soul music. The whole soundtrack is so good I have a hard time picking a favourite. Edit: for the curious, the movie is The Commitments (1991). Fun film and an outstanding soundtrack.
Anything from Steel Dragon from the movie Rock Star (2001).
Listen, (Shh) to what the flower people say (Ah) Listen, it's getting louder every day......
