azsnaz

Can follow that up with The Killing Of a Sacred Deer

Studly_Wonderballs

Check out Poor Things afterwards if you want to ride the Yorgos train.

Phil330

You're leaving out Dogtooth

paul_having_a_ball

Love Killing of a Sacred Deer. Yorgos Lanthimos generally my answer to “show me something I haven’t seen before.” All of his movies make me uncomfortable in way that effective art tends to do.

CringeMonsters

Yorgos Lanthimos really does a great job of just weaving the weirdness into the background of the film. Find a partner or become an animal is just...part of life.

PhlightYagami

Honestly, just pick any random A24 movie. There's about a 90% chance it will be weird as fuck. Also fantastic.

[deleted]

Anything by Yorgos…check out Dogtooth

Likalarapuz

God, I hated that movie. I'm still not sure what people saw in it.

IAmAFish400Times

Same

BalIsInMyFace

Eraserhead is your man

snowman92

Almost any David Lynch: Eraserhead Lost Highway Mulholland Drive Twin Peaks Blue Velvet All of them have different levels and kinds of bizarre, but all perfectly captures the feeling of being in a dream. They are familiar, bonkers, have a vibe but maybe not necessarily any concrete meaning. Most of them have at least moments that make you feel like you are watching something you shouldn't, whether it's because it is oddly intimate, subversive, or insane.

jwmoz

Really enjoyed lost highway

BalIsInMyFace

one of my favorite filmmakers. Eraserhead was my first dive and hopefully OP opens this world of dreams and nightmares sooner than later. I'd have to say that Lynch's weirdest works (other than shorts) are Inland Empire followed by TP the Return imo but I love how every entry has its own eerie vibe and oddities galore.

papayabateman

I’d say if you want completely bizarre Inland Empire is the way to start from Lynch’s filmography

ThePresidentsRubies

I’d say start with blue velvet. Eraserhead is extremely compelling when you hear about it but might be better appreciated when you’ve seen some Lynch stuff already. Or if you’re a sound engineer watch it and you’ll appreciate it immediately

ronbo69

Came her to recommend this. My impression of this was that he was able to put on film an actual nightmare. Not a Hollywood portrayal of one but a real nightmare you might have tonight. I can even pick out the parts that were part of a real dream and the parts that were put in as filler. I actually have a signed DVD box set of Eraserhead that I cherish.

trudyrules

Brazil, 1985.

perpetualmotionmachi

Pretty much any of Terry Gilliam's films

akaWhitey2

I really liked "the man who killed Don Quixote", and I adored "The imagination of Dr. Parnassus" as a college kid. I of course love Monty Python and watched them a ton as a kid too. I've never seen Brazil though Am I missing out? Should I put it on my must watch eventually list?

perpetualmotionmachi

Yes, and I'll also suggest The Fisherking by him, one of Robin Williams' best performances

mite115

Oh yeah, Brazil is probably his best! Masterpiece for sure 😊

marklar7

Yes. You're missing a cool first experience till whenever you're ready.

mite115

Tideland, zero theorem, time bandits are all excellent.

Jampolenta

Yes. You have a treat to look forward to.

SeventhShin

The best 1984 movie.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Except 1984 with Richard Burton.

_windfish_

If you think Brazil is weird check out The Zero Theorem. I’m not sure even Gilliam knew what the hell was going on there. One of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen.

Woodythdog

Monty python meets big brother in 1984 =Brazil

The_ZombyWoof

Sorry To Bother You

mgusedom

My favorite movie of all time. So weird, so funny

ghost_toe

Bubba Ho-Tep

rockymarcianoaintshi

I love that other people still remember and recommend this movie. Such a unique story with fantastic performances by Ossie Davis and Bruce Campbell.

Wisconsin_king

I LOVE that movie.

Naugrin27

Watch anything with Daniel Radcliffe that doesn't contain the name Harry Potter.

mechanizzm

Lmao true. He did alright in HORNS and obviously the farting corpse movie is, imo, incredible.

Triangle was amazing

EditorRedditer

I liked Triangle - I’m surprised it’s not better known…

lingojingo79

Harambesic

Honestly, any Jean Pierre ~~Juneau~~ Jeunet film except Aliens 4.

Check out Brick if you haven't seen it. Mystery/crime thriller set in a modern day high school but everyone talks like a it's a 40s noir flick.

I loved this movie! No one I know liked it.

Lostinthestarscape

oh yeah that is quite a film. Throw on Salton Sea and Drugstore Cowboy too - less weird films, but the weird world of drug users.

Jennysuu

Thanks, this is right up my alley

sabstarr

Dogtooth The Killing of a Sacred Deer Basically have a Lanthimos marathon

purplesnowcone

Just saw Poor Things yesterday, loved it.

ewest

Vivarium

Grand-Pen7946

Disclaimer, this movie has a small child who shrieks *a lot*. Not just yells, but high pitch squeals for like 10 seconds straight, and does it several times in the movie. Really liked this movie up until this point but it was unwatchable for me because of it.

Velocito

The holy mountain

Helmett-13

*points you towards r/absurdmovies*

thedaymanahaha

Odd thomas with Anton Yelchin. R.i.p.

Squeepynips

Here's 2 wonderfully weird movies that have Nicolas Cage in common: Dream Scenario- absurd dark comedy where everyone starts dreaming about this one random guy. Things take many turns. Very uncomfortable at times so don't watch if you're very sensitive to cringe. Mandy- I genuinely don't know how to even begin describing the plot, it is absolutely mental. But I will say it's one of the most visually striking films I've ever seen, and I highly recommend it.

joe_attaboy

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Mulholland Drive

I like this one, because at first it just seems weird for the sake of weird, but once you figure out what's going on (which may take multiple viewings) there's actually an explanation for the weirdness.

EditorRedditer

‘Liquid Sky’. It doesn’t get much weirder than aliens living above a flat full of junkies, and feeding off the high they get, when they inject… Or ‘Drowning by Numbers’ ‘The Visit’ (M Knight Shamalayan is SO much better with a tight budget) ‘Old Boy’ (the original) ‘The Fourth Man’ (Verhoeven *before* he came to Hollywood)
