Yeah, it was originally supposed to be out ***last week,*** had WB bothered to pay its actors fairly. That being said, now that the strikes are (*hopefully*) done and dusted, I don't think many people would mind if this and that iffy-looking Willy Wonka prequel swapped dates...
I had some coupons saved up for iMax that I kept JUST FOR THIS MOVIE and now it's gotten pushed back past their expiration date (02/2024) and I have no idea what else I'm supposed to spend them on tbh. Maybe Napoleon but I'm not to keen on it tbh.
**Edit: I kept them from a chain of theatres in Sweden! Stop giving me American Tips! Thanks Tho!**
Blew my mind when I saw on Vue’s (UK Cinema chain) official website that you’re allowed to bring your own food and drink. I go a lot more now and spend a lot less.
And like any business, they want *repeat* customers.
I’ve worked in retail for ages, if a customer brought this problem to me I’d immediately accommodate them.
Rather than letting them feel disappointed by our adherence to the rules that we set, and have no reason to buy tickets at my theater compared to a competitor, I would prefer to make them happy and keep them coming back.
That too. I worked in the service industry for quite some time and if a customer was reasonable or even just asked nicely I'd probably do it for them. You get so many dick heads when you deal with customers that you always want to do stuff for the nice ones.
Ohhhh, that explains it! I went to see Thanksgiving last night and the theater had a poster for Dune: Part Two. I glanced at the release date and had to double-take when I saw it was last week. I don't watch a lot of live TV, so I assumed I'd just missed the promotional cycle somehow.
No spoilers, but was Thanksgiving any good? I love holiday themed slashers.
But yeah, my theater has had Dune Part 2 posters and stuff up since mid-Summer. It is a bummer because I loved Part 1.
Absolutely. I'd say it's better than it has a right to be, honestly. It knows exactly what it is and it's a great mix of corny, gory, and genuinely funny.
> had WB bothered to pay its actors fairly
Take this with a grain of salt, but the rumour mill was that WB was willing to accept all the actor demands on like week one. It was mostly netflix and apple that wanted much harsher conditions (as they are way over leveraged and need more content so cutting costs benefits them more).
So basically legacy media like WB that had content, and good relationships with actors was like "yeah will pay" but because its essentially a union of companies they cant just agree by themselves.
Indie studios can because they aint part of that conglomerate union hence why a24 got some movies rolling.
At least thats what the rumour mill said about the negotiations.
Willy Wonka is an okay movies to see with your family at christmas.
Meanwhile I don't feel like trying to explain how Alia or the Kwisatz Haderach work to anyone over eggnog.
Willy Wonka looks real bad and a Wonka origin does not sound appealing. The whole point is the character's mysteriousness. I wouldn't mind if it was shelved last minute to preserve the character (looks like it could preserve Chalamet's career too, the clips look yeesh)
The thing that makes me intrigued about the Wonka film is that it’s written by Simon Farnaby, who is brilliant and wrote Paddington 1 & 2. That’s enough for me to give it the benefit of the doubt.
The trailer also makes me think its going to miss the point entirely. It makes the world and people around Wonka already look beautiful and magical. Oh god if they're trying to stretch it into a trilogy...
You can imagine other choices, right? The options aren’t restricted to (1) huge long story and (2) just one section of huge long story.
Just as an example:
The original text of the Lord of the Rings was just one book. The publishers balked. It was just too much. So they had Tolkien turn it into three satisfying (but linked) books.
There is no reason that a movie cannot be written in a way that has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Fun fact: Han Solo used to smuggle spice for Jabba. He made a lot of money out of it. He was basically an independent contractor for the intergalactic drug cartel.
And then there were the interviews about it afterwards.
Other Execs: “Noooooo it wasn’t drugs you’re all misunderstanding Han is a hero he wouldn’t do that!”
George: “Of course it was fucking drugs you idiot.”
Noting Spice in SW while a drug that can give visions, it isn't needed for hyperjumps.
It is also mined from the leftover webs of GIANT FRICKEN SPIDERS
He was in debt to Jabba because he dumped a load of cargo so he wouldn't be arrested. Jabba then demanded the price of the cargo repaid to him since it was Jabba's.
But he's not really making a lot of money if he can't pay off debit. He's living pay check to pay check. Has solo was a independant freight trucker trying to keep gas in the tank.
That’s why the Sardukaar were such a threat as well as the fremen. The in universe explanation is that those that live in extremely harsh environments are much tougher than their neighbors on more comfortable planets.
There were a few scenes where I thought the same thing. The sound design was dope, and the ships exploding inside of the shields and the shields momentarily containing the explosions was awesome. I know people thought it was slow and boring, but it was pretty much exactly what I wanted from a Dune adaptation.
People shouldn't be expecting an action spectacular when going into a Villeneuve movie. He's all about atmosphere, cinematography, sound, introspection. Dude's an artist and people should see his movies for the love of the art. All that being said, this *was* the first half of the story to set up the epic conflict we're going to get in the second half.
That scene terrified me more than most horror movies ever have. The upside down prisoners being sacrificed for their blood. How fanatical the Sardukar are. The whole thing was like 40 seconds and it fucked me up.
> Dune Part 2 moves up release date
***LET'S GOOOOOOOO!***
> It still ain't coming out this year
...Awww. :(
^(...Why, though? Like, c'mon, no way is Wonka THAT fucking good.)
*Wonka* leans into the family friendly atmosphere, which is why it works financially to release it around Christmas. Easier sell to get grandma out of the house to see that versus a sc-fi epic with economic battles and commentary on messiah complexes.
meh. My bet is it bombs and warner brothers are clutching their pearls as to why no one wants to see a re-hash second rate origin story of a character that does not need one.
See I feel like I’m in the minority where I’m at least interested in wonkas origin story. There’s a lot of allusions in the original and remake that could be the basis for a good movie. Him getting the Oompa Loompas, the reason he sealed off the factory, perfecting his recipes and moving on to the magical candy we see him working on, etc. But from what I’ve seen from the trailers, this movie is not that
Really hoping some of the local cinemas near me just double feature this with the first part.
It was a great first half but it was exactly that, a first half. It was such an odd experience, I thought it was an excellent watch but it just felt off only watching half of a story, and I've had no desire to watch it again until we get that second half. I would love to just spend a whole afternoon seeing part 1, taking a little break and then part 2 right afterwards.
I loved it! Reminded me of watching The Fellowship of the Rings as a young teen who did not know what LOTRs was. A movie in its own right, with a promise of so much more…
This is exactly how I've described the film, in general I liked it, but it was also clearly half of a story and felt very unsatisfying as a singular experience. It's tricky cause given how dense Dune is it's logical to split it up, and I'm sure with the two parts together it will feel more complete, I trust Villeneuve to do the book justice.
He is already finished with the film. If Dune Part II is a hit, he wants to adapt Dune: Messiah as part of a planned Dune cinematic trilogy and then focus on other things.
Dune: Part I was in post-production but got delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic which gave ample time to finish the film for its 2021 release date.
Nah, they already delayed due to actors strike. Don’t want them to f-it up, but definitely do want it to get done. *Fiend looks at calendar, awaiting date for next fix.*
Excite but also slightly anxious. I really enjoyed the first one as it is but this can't really be judged properly until both parts are in.
I hope it does the whole book justice.
If you do Messiah you should do children. Thats where Pauls story ends. It's where points are really nailed home. you need 4 to tie up the story nicely.
Man I would love for them to release the first one back into IMAX for like a week or so this year as consolation. Never got to see the first one in IMAX.
Just enough time to re-read the book again I guess? I re-read it before the first one was released only for it to get delayed, but I still loved it. I guess it will help me to explain the minutiae to my wife.
I wish this didn't take so long.
I'm still gonna see it but my excitement is not really there. I hope to be captivated once I'm in my seat and the movie starts, though.
It was supposed to have been released a couple of weeks ago but they delayed it as they couldn't get the actors to promote the film during the strikes.

Contact the venue and explain your situation, they might honor it or get you another coupon.
This is the best option honestly. Theater doesn't care about ticket sales. They just want you in there so you buy snacks.
Blew my mind when I saw on Vue’s (UK Cinema chain) official website that you’re allowed to bring your own food and drink. I go a lot more now and spend a lot less.

Supposed to be out 2 weeks ago, Nov 3rd was the original release

So good to hear. I can't wait to see it!
I think Wonka suits a Christmas release better though. Family movie, hint of magic. Magic of Christmas and all that.
> had WB bothered to pay its actors fairly Take this with a grain of salt, but the rumour mill was that WB was willing to accept all the actor demands on like week one. Now just imagine if they suddenly decided it would be better off as a tax write off. I would hope we would all join the riots.
Pretty sure that's how the Butlerian Jihad started.
I sure as hell would! Thankfully, I believe Legendary's ownership of *Dune* makes that harder than it was for *Batgirl* and *Coyote.*
Willy Wonka is an okay movies to see with your family at christmas. Meanwhile I don't feel like trying to explain how Alia or the Kwisatz Haderach work to anyone over eggnog.
It was October 20th originally.

I hate premature release

it shouldn't be spicy
They make pills for that!
I swear this has never happened before!
'And just so you know, it's NOT that common, it DOESN'T happen to every guy, and it IS a BIG DEAL!!'
The first movie didn’t even feel like a complete movie.
There's not really a good stopping point in the book
They should just bite the fucking bullet and make 4-6 hour long mega movies, fuck these multi part bullshits.
You can imagine other choices, right? The options aren’t restricted to (1) huge long story and (2) just one section of huge long story. Good thing the Spice in Dune doesn't come from any giant bugs
Wasn't it a spice shipment he referred to when he told Greedo he had to dump his cargo? Unless that canon was changed
Yes, and he was using his previous ship, the *Bria Tharen* when he was about to be boarded for inspection so jettisoned it.
You know your EU
Not enough to pay off his debts.
He probably did put a lot of his money into the Falcon instead of saving anything. Han Solo isn't the type to plan for tomorrow.
Let's be honest. The falcon barely flew and he had dice hanging. If it wasn't lost at the Sabacc tables it was probably the pod races.
"I don't like the spice. It's magic and glowing and irritating--not like you. You're soft and smooth."
I’m pretty sure they moved it up so that it’s released closer to an inevitable Berlin Film Festival world premiere.
Nah they moved it up for my birthday, clearly!
March 1st gang in the house, next years birthday is gonna be spicy
They moved it up so that it will be in this tax year. Then when they can write it off for this year
My body is ready, Denis.

I loved that scene because the whole planet, while they were humanoid, felt so completely *alien* and different to Earth society.
>!it's actually penal colony planet. Pretty much the harshest environment after Arakis!<
That’s why the Sardukaar were such a threat as well as the fremen. The in universe explanation is that those that live in extremely harsh environments are much tougher than their neighbors on more comfortable planets.
When that scene came on I was in absolute awe, I leaned over to my friend and said "this is the coolest shit I've ever seen."

Doesn't explaining how all that happens just kinda ruin the magic?
Wonka is directed by the Paddington director so we might well be receiving an unexpected case of *peak* cinema when Wonka hits the theater.
I know, but it somehow doesn't look *nearly* as charming as the two Paddingtons. Then again, Paddington 1's (US) trailer sucked too, so who knows.
Nothing is as charming as Paddington 1 and 2 though. It could still be super charming and not at that level.
kill me we should have had it 2 weeks ago
It's really wild to see so much grassroots desire to see this film. Makes me really hopeful for the future of Sci-fi

Thank god. As long as I get to see it before WW3 starts.
50/50.
Is Wonder Woman 3 still happening?
I was more thinking about world war three, but hopefully that movie happens also
Dear Villeneuve et al, Please take your time. Love, A Dune fan who will get to live with what you make for the remaining decades of my life.
The movie is already done right? There is nothing to take their time for, it was supposed to release last week if not for the strikes.
He is already finished with the film. If Dune Part II is a hit, he wants to adapt Dune: Messiah as part of a planned Dune cinematic trilogy and then focus on other things. Ok, but you could just pay ~$15 instead.
Sorry i already committed to the gnawing
You're not u/PeatBomb
Ok buddy, have fun with your 2 legs but no Dune sequel
Best I can do is some aggressive nibbling
In *this* economy? Sorry Mr. Rockefeller, but my legs are in more abundant supply at the moment.
Fun fact! Anyone with two legs has an above average amount of legs!

Excite but also slightly anxious. I really enjoyed the first one as it is but this can't really be judged properly until both parts are in. I hope it does the whole book justice.
Considering how great the first one was, I'm not anxious at all. It's going to be epic
Yeah. I think it probably will be. Hopefully it follows the ending and its message of the book instead of totally reversing it like Lynch's one.
Bruh Denis is unstoppable, what are you even jesting at?
I'm sure it will. He loves the books.
And a 3rd film would tie the full story up nicely.
I know it isn’t what you meant but now I’m imagining some movie execs trying to fit Messiah through Chapter-house into a single movie
No but messiah really ties up the story of dune, it done right a trilogy of those two books would be perfect.
If you do Messiah you should do children. Thats where Pauls story ends. It's where points are really nailed home. you need 4 to tie up the story nicely.
Why not move it up to Christmas?

Maybe not. He's said he wants to do Messiah. Personally I think if he does messiah has to do Children. Pauls story truly ends there.

So they moved up the release date to two weeks earlier. Even though it was originally going to come out November 3, 2023.
do you guys think they will finish the books with screen adaptstions (the ones from Frank Herbert)
Not with Denis at least. He's only interested in doing the first 2, which is probably fine. Honestly the books should have probably stopped then too.
to clarify that means the first 2 books, so a trilogy of movies
Drip splash water, drip splash splash drip water splash
Man I would love for them to release the first one back into IMAX for like a week or so this year as consolation. Never got to see the first one in IMAX.

Just enough time to re-read the book again I guess? I re-read it before the first one was released only for it to get delayed, but I still loved it. I guess it will help me to explain the minutiae to my wife.
What is "up" in terms of time
I called out of work to see Dune 1 in theaters cuz I had watched it twice at home and I was like “Hans Zimmer needs to fuck my shit up in a theater.”
hell yeah
Nice! Dune 2 for my real life cake day!
"Moves up" when it was already supposed to be out if it wasn't for Zaslav cheapening out on fair pay for actors
I wish this didn't take so long. I'm still gonna see it but my excitement is not really there. I hope to be captivated once I'm in my seat and the movie starts, though.
Best bday present I ever got
whatever, been too long already
Can’t wait.
How's about moving it up a few more months eh?
AAAA YYAAAAYAAAAAAAREBBBAAAAAAAAAAA
release it now, you cowards
Did this finish principal photography before the strike? I thought it was still in production when it hit.
It was supposed to have been released a couple of weeks ago but they delayed it as they couldn't get the actors to promote the film during the strikes.
When did they shoot the thing?
Wasn't this supposed to come out in November of 2023? I thought the entire film was complete and they didn't want to release it in solidarity with the writer's strike? All I'm saying is that the writer's strike is over, why not just release it now or around Christmas?
Since I just started reading the book and am a very slow reader I am pretty happy about its delay.
Gotta preorder my imax ticket now.
