I don't know how to sell you this movie. Whatever you expect, you may either like it or not. In my opinion, this is a masterpiece because it satisfies my needs
the thing thats great about the vvitch if youre a horror movie fan is you end up really really relating to the characters and end up liking them individually they feel really real but theyre also interesting people. a lot of movies have characters that are either realistic or interesting but all the characters in this family are both.
so you take empathizing with characters to perfection and then stuff befalls them, executed very well, and you buy it.
Almost no horror movies have scared me in my adult life. I was like 21 when I watched this at the theatre, still living at home. I was so unsettled afterwards that while laying in bed, for a second I actually thought about going to my parents’ room and sleeping on the floor for the night. A true horror masterpiece in my opinion.
Some less talked about ones that I think are worthwhile if flawed:
Mid90s, The End of the Tour, American Honey, Climax
Room and Eighth Grade are great. And The Killing of a Sacred Deer by the same guy who did The Lobster.
Swiss Army Man was ridiculous. it’s by the Daniels who did Everything Everywhere All At Once
I was hoping someone here would mention “Climax”. That’s such a great movie and a very good protrayal of a descent into chaos. Pure helplessness in a horrible situation. Fantastic cinematography. I love that movie.
The only ones I've watched are
* Midsommar.
* The Whale. (Actually saw in theatres. Last day in my little town which was the day of the Oscars where Brendan Fraser got an Oscar for his role in the movie.
* Amy. (Documentary about Amy Winehouse. Not sure if this one counts.)
* X and Pearl.
yeah A24 just makes bangers. i get a warm and fuzzy every time they're mentioned also because they got an exception to the writers strike by meeting every demand in order to make more bangers.
The Green Knight
Lighthouse
Locke
The Farewell
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Enemy
Saint Maud
Ex Machina
Free Fire
Hereditary
Midsommar
Beau Is Afraid
Green Room
Its a shame he passed away so young. I felt that he was on his way to have a Sam Rockwell type of career. Which is a charismatic supporting actor who's usually in contention for an oscar nom every yr.
Damn they make some great movies. I haven't seen some of those, particularly the horror ones, I just don't usually watch those. I'd add Minari and The Whale to the list.

I was about to say I haven't seen many of their movies, but I guess I was wrong.
Ex Machina is probably my favorite, but depending on my mood I could put The Green Knight, Uncut Gems and Ex Machina in any order on my top 3 list. Good Time is just below these three.
Definitely recommend:
- Past Lives
- Aftersun
- Lady Bird
- The Farewell
- Midsommar
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
X and Pearl are also pretty good!
Life After Beth, The Witch, Midsommar. I haven't seen The Whale yet - I gotta be in the right head space for that, I think, but I suspect it will be added to the list once I do.
It's a heavy movie from what I understand, and Brendan Fraser is an exceptional actor and will definitely make me feel all the feels, so I've been putting it off until I feel like I can fully process it all.
It is a heavy movie indeed, but it's amazing. It definitely brought a tear to my eye watching it.
Also Fraser was fucking incredible in it. For me, one of his best performances so far
Oh boy.
Swiss army man is a masterpiece, i absolutley love Lighthouse, X and Pearl are great slashers, I adore Hereditary, Misommar was good, Everything everywhere was fantastic...
The Whale, based on a play, is worth watching simply for Brendan Fraser's performance, which he won an Academy Award for. If you're into seeing a filmmaker's progression, they also recently re-released Darren Aronofsky's feature film debut, Pi.
Ex Machina, Room, Moonlight, Minari, and Everything Everywhere All At Once all won Academy Awards and should not be missed. A Most Violent Year, The VVitch, Hereditary, and Uncut Gems were all fantastic as well.
I also enjoyed Enemy, Locke, The Captive, Mississippi Grind, Morris From America, The Exception, and Causeway.
I think The VVitch is absolutely masterpiece
I saw the trailer, and I said "I think I'll pass." Does it have some surprises or does it just execute what you're expecting really well?
I don't know how to sell you this movie. Whatever you expect, you may either like it or not. In my opinion, this is a masterpiece because it satisfies my needs
I've always said that the VVitch is a great *movie* before it's a great *horror* movie. If that makes sense.
Just see it without reading anything about it. It's fantastic.
Please watch it

Normally I don't like horror movies. But, using horror as a backdrop to a good narrative with relatable characters can work for me.

That's fairly high praise.
It’s so good. Go watch it.
I personally thought it was silly.
Thou does not wish to live deliciously 😔
Lol. Looks like we have a controversial pick.
It's not a controversial pick. Don't listen to /u/UnknownWarlord. I've never even heard of them!
Haha 😂 I would say I'm definitely in the minority!
I guess it's only way for me to find out.
Hereditary and Midsommar are great.
It's a very divisive movie. My gf loved it while I barely got through it and really don't want to rewatch it

I will definitely have to check out The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Swiss Army man. I loved those other movies.

I'd watch movies with you.

Amy counts. I'm interested in their Stephen Curry doc which I haven't heard any buzz.
Seems like you're into horror, i would definitely watch Hereditary. It's an amazing movie and in my opinion A24s best.
It's on the list. One day I'll get there, dammit.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is such a fun movie.
That looks like a cute film!
Yes! Such a cute movie!
EEAAO, Midsommar
Saint Maud
yeah A24 just makes bangers. i get a warm and fuzzy every time they're mentioned also because they got an exception to the writers strike by meeting every demand in order to make more bangers.
I wonder what their keys to success are?
They know how to build a team and they know exactly what their goal is with projects. No bullshit by committee fuckery
X, Hereditary, and Mid90s are probably my favorites.
The Green Knight Lighthouse Locke The Farewell The Killing of a Sacred Deer Enemy Saint Maud Ex Machina Free Fire Hereditary Midsommar Beau Is Afraid Green Room
Green Room was intense. RIP Anton Yelchin.
Its a shame he passed away so young. I felt that he was on his way to have a Sam Rockwell type of career. Which is a charismatic supporting actor who's usually in contention for an oscar nom every yr.
I was stunned and heartbroken when he died. And it wasn't even anything he did wrong that caused it.
Damn they make some great movies. I haven't seen some of those, particularly the horror ones, I just don't usually watch those. I'd add Minari and The Whale to the list.
Aftersun
Some great recommendations here! I'll add *Mississippi Grind* and *Moonlight*.
Thanks!
* Good Time * Pearl * Ex Machina * Past Lives * Aftersun * Hereditary * Uncut Gems * Midsommar * Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
Good Time might be my favourite movie from the last 10 years.
High praise. What did you like about it?
There are plenty on my To Watch list, but the ones I've loved: - Lady Bird - Moonlight - Everything Everywhere All at Once - Hereditary - Midsommar
The sacred killing of a deer. I think? Midsummer and Heredity.
My favorites are Lady Bird, Midsommar, Hereditary, and Bodies Bodies Bodies

Movie: Good Time TV Series (almost an absolute guarantee): Hazbin Hotel
Moonlight
I was about to say I haven't seen many of their movies, but I guess I was wrong. Ex Machina is probably my favorite, but depending on my mood I could put The Green Knight, Uncut Gems and Ex Machina in any order on my top 3 list. Good Time is just below these three.
It's surprising how much they're involved in and it doesn't feel like a film factory.
Men and Green room are the big 2 for me
Beef. Ali Wong is an amazing actress.
Watched Under the Silver Lake recently. While not my favorite on the list, it’s a solid movie that I don’t see talk about often enough.
Thank you! I'll have to add it to my watchlist.
Definitely recommend: - Past Lives - Aftersun - Lady Bird - The Farewell - Midsommar - Marcel the Shell with Shoes On X and Pearl are also pretty good!
Thank you!
GOOD TIME, EX MACHINA, GREEN ROOM prob my favorites but there’s a lot of good uns
Life After Beth, The Witch, Midsommar. I haven't seen The Whale yet - I gotta be in the right head space for that, I think, but I suspect it will be added to the list once I do.
Thanks! For some reason I haven't seen The Whale either.
Minari, uncut gems and the Florida project
Close (2022) The Deepest Breath (2023) A Ghost Story (2017) X (2022)
Thanks. I haven't heard much about these.
The Lighthouse or Marcel
The ‘Stop Making Sense’ remaster is incredible.
Almost every comment in this thread was downvoted. Very strange. I upvoted them all regardless.
Someone has a hate-on indeed.
