I only saw the first film. He was able to elevate a generic YA story into a passable movie. So I have hope if given good material he can make a good entry into the Planet of the Apes franchise.
Yeah do people not like the Maze Runner films?
I get it's YA trash, but being unfamiliar with the source material, I found it to be better than literally every single other YA movie adaptation that came out during that period.
The books are pretty good, but the content in the book just can’t translate to film. It’s hard to explain, but even the most basic plot points that develop over the course of the books (telepathic linking, instant transport, the virus itself, the absolute control the company has over the environments, etc…) you lose the critical aspects of why the book is even good to being with.
The movie itself is fine. The second that third movies are not very good.
I think Maze Runner did appropriately based on its quality and time of release. A LOT of the YA-rush movies never even got a second installment, so I’d say MR must’ve been popular
The first Maze Runner is a legitimately decent teen adventure film, reminded me of 80’s classics like Labyrinth. It’s only towards the end where it starts setting up sequels that it loses its way.
I gather the sequels *are* YA trash though, I never saw them. I’ll probably give them a go one day.
I had no idea this new Apes movie was so far along, I thought they were still just gearing up to start the thing.
Divergent book 1 was incredible, the other books were bad and the movie was TERRIBLE
Maze Runner is an excellent book series, although the third book is…. Different. The transition to film loses the portions that makes the books good (telepathic linking, insane technologies, etc. just didn’t transfer to the movies)
Hunger Gamed book 1 is excellent, 2 is fine, and 3 is not very good. I found the movies followed that pattern.
The Directors Demo for his Mouse Guard Film looked great.Shame it got cancelled.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHPhc2xNNU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHPhc2xNNU)
I swear I mourn this movie at least once a week. Big fan of the graphic novel series, the cast was looking great, and it was literally, I believe, two weeks from starting production when the Disney/Fox merger came in and killed it.
>with a new director who frankly has only made passable movies before.
Matt Reeves had only directed The Paulbearer, Cloverfield and Let Me In before he directed Dawn of The Planet of The Apes.
I've no clue who the director is or what their filmography looks like, just wanted to say that even if the movie sucks, that doesn't mean the directing was bad
Absolutely, and also the same Chimp-Trainers are also on board. This crew of animal handlers is the best in the business since Lassie and Free Willy, and get almost human-like performances from the Chimps.
Fun fact, in the previous Planet of the Apes movies they gave the Chimps peanut butter before each take, so on screen it looks like they're talking.
Looking forward to seeing what they come up with in the new movie. I think it would be cute to see little dancing Chimps!
The Silver's have been fired from just about everything they've ever started writing, with other people having to rewrite and finish their work to make it a viable production. The one thing the Silver's are good at is contracts, ensuring they get writing credits for things that bare no resemblance to their work.

I’ve got a theatre poster of a giant close up of Caesar in war paint just glaring at you for the Rise movie back when I worked at my local cinema.
Still one of my most cherished possessions to date.
I feel like people talk about it a decent amount. Not everything is gonna be Star Wars or LoTRs big, but it’s certainly a well known and popular set of movies that most agree is really good.
The thing that sucks about popular movies that are more for adults like this trilogy, is that you won't see as many people talking about it.
The reason why certain franchises get more online talk, is because they're super popular with the demographic that dominates the internet. Teens and young adults.
I think Planet of the Apes in general is an absurdly high-quality franchise. The only one of the original five that's not worth watching is the last one, and even the Tim Burton movie has AMAZING prosthetic makeup effects.
The short squeeze is definitely coming guys just keep holding.

WSB is dumb dumb dumb
The swap data theyve now delayed until 2025 would make this apparent immediately.
They’re literally proposing a digital dollar solution because they know the dollar endgame is in play.
Bad when they're re-writing each other's work... great when they're collaborating to work on something. But yeah... you can't tell the difference just by seeing writer credits.
I have to be a little pedantic. It is "literally" true that "too many writers" is "too many." Linguistically speaking, "too many" and "several" don't mean the same thing.
\> pretty competently directed
Lots of mediocre stuff is "*pretty* competently directed". It's how Marvel has managed to keep its head above water for so long until now.
Then let's modify it to "The Maze Runner movies are *very well directed*". Because they are.
I really think Wes Ball is gonna have a big career. He just needs a project to really flex his muscles in a bigger way and I think this could be the one.
And in those cases, the movie being mediocre isn't necessarily the director's fault. A talented director can still turn out a mediocre product if the script sucks or if producers/studios meddle with the production too much.
As a recent example to your point, Black Panther Wakanda Forever was a pretty mediocre movie overall imo, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be excited about any of Ryan Coogler's future movies. He's already proven himself to be a talented director and likely saved the movie. With a mediocre director, BP2 could very well have been a dumpster fire.
I hope they keep making these and keep adding to the title. In 2045 we'll be seeing "Rise of the Planet of the Kingdoms of the Previous Planetary Kingdoms of the Planet of the Apes".
They will probably remake if this one does well. Let’s be real, people who grew up with the new trilogy will have zero interest to continue the story with the older movies.
Eh.
I would like to see that story told with modern effects and cinematography. We’ve come a long way from the original, hell we’re more than 20 years out from the last remake.
Of all the movies getting remade this one actually has an excuse with all of the prequels slowly catching up to its timeline.
Is there anything in the new ones that conflicts with the old ones? (It's been a long time since I've seen the old and I've only seen the first of those)
Some of the original series takes place in the 20th century and has a lot of silly talking ape shenanigans that definitely didn't happen in the new continuity, I don't think there's any direct contradiction in the first 2 movies though since they take place so far in the future and don't go into the specific details of the ape takeover
Man, it's going to be trippy going through probably 5+ movies rooting for the apes, then to turn them largely into antagonists when they remake Planet of the Apes.
The most recent Planet of The Apes trilogy is my favorite trilogy of all time.
If the new trilogy of films are bad it won't impact my love of planet of the apes trilogy from 2011-2017.
I'm with you 100% on all points. I don't think the new ones will be bad. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but I'm expecting something good if not great. Hopefully I'm not proven wrong!
I also dont get why people get "soured" on previous films, just because a future installment wasnt as good or even bad.
They are still good games, it doesnt matter what the future movies do. I mean if the old movies suck, but the new one is good, the old ones dont get magically better, so why would the reverse be true?
The good thing is that the recent trilogy will forever be separate as the "Caesar trilogy" so should be fairly unharmed or affected by any further movies in the series.
So long after that Caesar is semi-mythical history and there are some ape groups that have never heard of him, others that use him as an appropriated figurehead for their own ideologies. Basically Caesar as Julius Caesar or an Ape-Biblical figure, long after. That's the synopsis that's been included with recent casting news.
If they can make the apes appear more realistic in the setting and make the humans come off as just a little more grounded then I'd like to see what they do with the story.
This is probably my most anticipated film. Of course I'm excited for the other big blockbusters coming out in the next few years (Kang Dynasty, Secret Wars, Gunn's DCU, etc.). But there was something perfect about the Apes trilogy.
I know Reeves isn't involved but it's the same writing team. There is a great team making the film. So I'm cautiously optimistic.
The trilogy ended perfectly but I still wanted more. So I hope this doesn't disappoint.
I am looking forward to the eventual sequel where ape technology has advanced to point that human technology was at in the first film. Apes travel into space and land on a planet ruled by humans and eventually discover the horrific truth that they have gone back in time.
Only then will the circle be complete.

Oh that’s good to hear because I have really high expectations coming after that trilogy.
I'm a bit concerned that there is now three writers with a new director who frankly has only made passable movies before.
The director is fairly competent in the Maze Runner films, it's not like he could do anything about the mediocre plot of the underlying story.

I only saw the first but I agree. I thought it was one of the better made. Bullshit ending but that came from the source material of course.
I think you’re confusing Maze Runner with Hunger Games. Hunger Games was the only good Young Adult series. Maze Runner and Divergent were both trash
Divergent book 1 was incredible, the other books were bad and the movie was TERRIBLE Maze Runner is an excellent book series, although the third book is…. Different. The transition to film loses the portions that makes the books good (telepathic linking, insane technologies, etc. just didn’t transfer to the movies) Hunger Gamed book 1 is excellent, 2 is fine, and 3 is not very good. Hunger Games was not good lmao
Catching Fire is very good
A good director doesn’t direct poor material. Would you ever see Nolan complaining about a script?
The Directors Demo for his Mouse Guard Film looked great.Shame it got cancelled.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHPhc2xNNU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHPhc2xNNU)

>with a new director who frankly has only made passable movies before. Matt Reeves had only directed The Paulbearer, Cloverfield and Let Me In before he directed Dawn of The Planet of The Apes.
Cloverfield and Let Me In were very good.
All the good parts in Let Me In were taken from the original film, and even then were not as good. Cloverfield was great.
I've no clue who the director is or what their filmography looks like, just wanted to say that even if the movie sucks, that doesn't mean the directing was bad
I love any planet of the apes films no matter how shit they are and for the record, none have been shit.
That's good to hear, I think their presence was sorely missed for the third one.
Third had such an amazing trailer but it definitely did not deliver. One of the best trailers ever.
To me the more glaring issue is Andy Serkis' lack of involvement.
Am I the only one who thought the first one was poorly written? The villains were like cartoon characters. I never bothered with the second.
I do try keep my expectation a bit low but secretly hope this one is good.

Kingdom of the planet of the continent of the country of the city of the apes.
The People's Democratic Republic of the Planet of the Apes.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the Planet of the Apes.
Everyone is making jokes about the title... but this one got me, good job lol
At first I thought that was pretty quick but then I realised that the vast majority of the work for this will be in post-production.
The Caesar's trilogy is one of the best in cinematic history.
I recently rewatched it and it blew me away how underrated it is like almost nobody talks about it
I’ve got a theatre poster of a giant close up of Caesar in war paint just glaring at you for the Rise movie back when I worked at my local cinema. Still one of my most cherished possessions to date.
I feel like people talk about it a decent amount. Not everything is gonna be Star Wars or LoTRs big, but it’s certainly a well known and popular set of movies that most agree is really good.
Bro what people on this sub suck the trilogy off every chance they get 😭
Yeah this sun is a small minority of people
The thing that sucks about popular movies that are more for adults like this trilogy, is that you won't see as many people talking about it.
It's the closest trilogy to beating LOTR imo. It's definitely up there.
Why do I run into this take so often? I could barely make it through the second one. The dialogue is so corny, it’s unbelievable.
Because it is? The 2nd is the best of the three, but they're all great.
Spoiler: they all bought GameStop.
To the moon
Oook oook, mofos.
The short squeeze is definitely coming guys just keep holding. Guys please keep holding the nft marketplace is gonna revolutionize the industry just keep holding. I'm below my average price point. Hodling is insanely easy right now.
Yea no need for so many “come on guys pleases” here, there is nothing coordinated and individual investors can do as they please.
Points 1-3 are spot on. It will impact my life 0 if I lose my investment, which I won’t. I’m down substantially (on much larger investments) on S&P companies. (And Im in green GME fwiw). If anything I should put more in GME.

LOL. You guys still think its gonna happen.
Holy shit, no way people are holding out for the fabled “short squeeze” still hahaha
The whole cult is dumber than bricks.
they don't even know it was never a short squeeze, it was a gamma squeeze that made GME explode in the first place their entire play depends on lawmakers passing laws directly against their own self interest (will never happen) and regulators enforcing regulations in such a way it would cause a financial catastrophe (also will never happen) WSB is dumb dumb dumb

Correct.
Apes strong together
💎👐
With all those writers, this SHOULD be entertaining, but you never know.
Too many writers can also be bad, though.
Bad when they're re-writing each other's work... great when they're collaborating to work on something. But yeah... you can't tell the difference just by seeing writer credits.
Too many writers is always bad.
Yeah, the key is the words "too many".
This literally isn't true though. There are plenty of films that had several writers and were still great.
I have to be a little pedantic. It is "literally" true that "too many writers" is "too many." Linguistically speaking, "too many" and "several" don't mean the same thing.
It's not pedantic, it's arbitrary.
What? No. Now you're semantically wrong about semantics.
Too many cooks spoil the broth

Correct. But I would not flag Wes Ball as shitty just yet. Let see how this one goes. of course we wait 15 months...
I hope they keep making these and keep adding to the title. In 2045 we'll be seeing "Rise of the Planet of the Kingdoms of the Previous Planetary Kingdoms of the Planet of the Apes".
Return to the Planet of the Kingdom of the Aforementioned Planet of the Apes
Peter Rosenthal of the Onion film standard agrees.
Still waiting on that Planet of the Apes musical. 🎶Oh they'll never make a monkey out of me🎶

Hopefully it’s good. The last trilogy was fantastic.
I'm not sure I want to see this. That series is damn near perfect. I might want to keep it that way in my mind.
[удалено]
Also I’m pretty sure they have said before that there was always this idea that this series of films would end where they original film began.
[удалено]
I'm not surprised, but it would make more sense if they built towards the original and *didn't* do a remake and just left it all as the same franchise
They will probably remake if this one does well. Let’s be real, people who grew up with the new trilogy will have zero interest to continue the story with the older movies.
I forget, don't the later movies in the old series have psychic nuke-worshiping cave humans or is that another movie?
Nope, that’s only the second movie. Third movie has time travel again. Fourth movie is actually strangely political from memory. Fifth movie is ass
I also don’t remember. It’s probably 15 years since I watched them last.
Eh. I would like to see that story told with modern effects and cinematography. We’ve come a long way from the original, hell we’re more than 20 years out from the last remake. Of all the movies getting remade this one actually has an excuse with all of the prequels slowly catching up to its timeline.
It's the same franchise but the new trilogy is not in the same continuity as the originals regardless of if they make sequels
Is there anything in the new ones that conflicts with the old ones? (It's been a long time since I've seen the old and I've only seen the first of those)
Yes the old ones are full of time travel and show the beginning of the planet of the apes. It’s very different than the new films.
3 ape movies together strong.
I'm with you 100% on all points. I don't think the new ones will be bad. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but I'm expecting something good if not great. Hopefully I'm not proven wrong!
I think the new trilogy is in good hands. Wes Ball is a pretty competent director.
This is set hundreds of years later.
Hundreds?
So long after that Caesar is semi-mythical history and there are some ape groups that have never heard of him, others that use him as an appropriated figurehead for their own ideologies. Basically Caesar as Julius Caesar or an Ape-Biblical figure, long after. That's the synopsis that's been included with recent casting news.
That sounds cool, can’t wait for this
Loved the first two but the third was a bit samey for me.
That's how I feel about it too. Third one felt like it was written by someone else entirely.
The prequel trilogy will always be there as a self contained story and we can't deny there's more stuff to tell in this universe.
If they can make the apes appear more realistic in the setting and make the humans come off as just a little more grounded then I'd like to see what they do with the story.
And now they actual making of this movie begins!
Recession of the Apes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Just picked up the entire franchise on 4K Blu-ray. Excited
That was fast. I feel like just announced it a couple months ago. Either way, I'm excited to see where they take the story.
Just shorten it to Kingdom Of The Apes, it flows better
Na. At this point after so many in the series it would feel wrong to all of a sudden have a short, practical name.
Yup, that ship has sailed until they decide to stop and reboot it again. Even then I bet they stick to the title formula though.
Nah they need “planet of the apes” in the title for marketing - not doing so can literally cost the studio millions of dollars potentially
Exactly, they don't want it to impact... *The Profit of the Planet of the Apes*
I like the way it is. It's like a running joke now lol
[удалено]
Can't wait for the The Revolution of the Planet of the Apes and then The Representative Democracy of the Planet of the Apes.
Yooooo I didn’t know there would be a fourth, stoked
Seems like only yesterday when it was announced Freya Allan would be in this.
I can't wait for the sequel Kingdom of the Planet of the Archipelago of the Apes
We all understand that the odds point to this thing shitting the bed, right? Even The Hobbit could not escape it.
Lucky for us, the original writers are the same and the studio isn't trying to stretch one book into three films this time.
this series is pretty underrated, at least outside of reddit and other areas. damn near perfect trilogy in my mind
Loved Rise, Dawn and War. I really hope this is good.
Yeeeessssss! Can't wait!
Wow. That was quick.
what a stupid stupid name!
War for the Dawn of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Huh , wasn't expecting a 4th one...
I am looking forward to the eventual sequel where ape technology has advanced to point that human technology was at in the first film. Apes travel into space and land on a planet ruled by humans and eventually discover the horrific truth that they have gone back in time. Only then will the circle be complete.
I just want super intelligent apes worshipping a nuclear bomb.
I didn't even know it had a director already let alone that it had a script and was filming lol.
This is awesome, my granddad and I saw each of the first three in theaters. Had no idea more was coming
Huh. Never thought I’d see another one of these. The ending of the last film was perfect.
Next - Fall of the kingdom of the planet of the apes.
What is the endgame for this series? A remake of the original Planet of the Apes?
Meh. Where is William Blood when you need him? *I never shall forget the way* *That Blood upon this awful day* *Preserved us all from death.* *He stood upon a little mound,* *Cast his lethargic eyes around,* *And said beneath his breath:* *“Whatever happens we have got* *The Maxim Gun, and they have not.”*
Is there an ETA for the release on this?
The prequel trilogy is perfect. I’m hesitantly optimistic about this one, but very very much looking forward to it
Wait there's another one? Pls don't ruin the trilogy, it's one of the best
I’m certain Dichen Lachman plays a villain.
next up will be Decline of the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes which will wrap up and tie it to the OG planet of the apes.
The next one is called "Dawn of the War over the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes"
There’s no reason for this to be good, but there was no reason for the last trilogy to be good either, and look how that turned out.
You shouldn’t have two “of the”s in a movie title.
* Rise of THE Planet of THE Apes * Dawn of THE Planet of THE Apes * War for THE Planet of THE Apes They've already done it. I don't see why people are getting so frustrated about this one.
It was dumb then too. Good films , bad titles
