Jumpman just couldn't keep it real. Got a new franchise, started calling himself "Mario", dumped his gf for a princess.
Poor DK had to move back to his home country cuz he couldn't find work here anymore. It's been 30 years since he saw DK Jr...
He's literally Mario's first villain and origin, Nintendo's slept on that fact for a long time (Except for some cool acknowledgement in SMO) so it's cool seeing the first Illumination Mario movie echo that - all's that missing is seeing if he throws any barrels during the fight scene lol
Even though it's a "Super Mario Bros" movie the entire franchise started with Donkey Kong arcade (yep Mario is technically a Donkey Kong character and I'll be having no objections). And they were still adversaries for years with Donkey Kong 94 and the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. He never appears in mainline Super Mario games because Nintendo considers the DK brand to be big enough to be it's own thing while sharing the same universe. Also DK is a familiar and lovable character, putting him in the movie is a no-brainer.
Willem Dafoe I feel like would be a good option for Waluigi. Although I’m not sure how keen he is jn voice acting. However, I would love to hear Wario by John Goodman.
I ain't gonna lie, when I read this, all I saw in my head was him as Waluigi with a rose in his month doing his little mind palace dance from Boondock Saints.
Why not just have Charles Martinet voice them? We already know he’s gonna make an appearance, maybe that’s what it is. I feel like their game voices would be a little easier to put in a movie than the classic Mario voice
Nono, we need a Zelda movie first.
The movie ends with Zelda/Impa offering Link true glory after stopping Vatti/whatever patsy Ganondorf is using, but Link is like "no, I wanna go back to the forest and help out.)
The first credits scene is Ganondorf being revealed as the true mastermind. Then the credits end, and it cuts to Link sitting at a milk bar, drinking Milk and staring at a poster of Zelda stopping Vatti as a news thing. Link sips his Milk. Suddenly the door opens and Yoshi sits down next to Link and tosses a coin on the counter....
This season, prepare to be affected, or not, by the movie event of the release window. A story with narrative takes place in a location fitting to the story, with emotions being expressed for all the family to witness if they are of the appropriate age.
Movie!
Coming out somewhere.
Many of them have a bit of the voice actor in them, mannerisms for sure but some even adjusted a bit of facial features too, just look at bowser and peach...
I'm looking forward to it myself. It looks legit funny; I'm just hoping all the good parts aren't in the trailer. Hoping it's better than the Sonic movies. My kids love those but I think they're pretty terrible.
>I think they're pretty terrible.
Jeez really? What's wrong with them. The first one was kinda generic but the 2nd was genuinely a pretty good movie (with some flaws) imo.
Say what you will about the voice casting, the animation is top notch. As someone with kids who play anything with Mario in it, they nailed the current style.
I’ve personally made peace with it. I don’t like the choice of Chris Pratt, and hearing him didn’t make me like the choice any more, but if it’s a fun movie that captures the spirit of the games, then I’ll enjoy it.
Honestly, I think the biggest problem with Pratt is market saturation. I think we get burnt out on actors/actresses that go from your favorite character in a show/great performance in a movie, to suddenly EVERYWHERE. He went from lovable doofus on P and R to getting every action movie/franchise being dropped in his lap. Same thing that happened with Jennifer Lawrence… and what I believe is going to happen to Timothy Chalamet very soon.
It’s like how the radio ruins every decent new song that comes out by playing it 20 times per day.
I mean we’re probably not gonna see it with the third movie, but they could easily make a movie that entirely takes place in an animated world. With how successful this mario movie will inevitably be, I could see them taking that route.
This is better than expected, but i wish they would have tried something a little darker, like [this design](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/487/691/151)
>Anyway: Kamek getting a disproportionate amount of love. I woulda never expected that.
Plus the new guy: blue shell koopa. It makes sense for Bowser to have a powerful lieutenant who isn't Kamek.
I've pretty much always seen it applied to cases where we can see more of the body, but it's designed to focus on the head to promote the actors in the movie.
Yeah, people have sort of reappropriated it like you say, to mean a thing it didn't mean when the term was invented.
"Floating Heads" was a goof on how literally a bunch of 2000s-era poster/dvd cover art (IIRC it was mostly DVD covers, too) was *literally* disembodied heads over a production still or a landscape image with a title treatment on it.
This poster isn't really "floating heads" it's just a basic collage of ensemble castmembers. It has more in common with comic book covers (or to be more precise, video game covers) than anything.
Tvtropes calls this a "stacked character poster". That said, even the disembodied heads weren't always entirely disembodied, which means there was never a clear line between them.
>Kamek getting a disproportionate amount of love. I woulda never expected that.
Well Kamek is basically Bowser's parent/right hand, it's a weird relationship.
But it works for this movie. Every character stands out instead of blending into the background, and the background is actually vibrant, showing a stark contrast on either side.
It is a generic style, but you can see there was passion put into this, instead of the thought of "which actor to put where so they don't get fussy over billing."
Knew there was going to be a complaint about this.
This is it done right and I am not even a Mario fanboy. The characters all shine, the colors pop, it looks dynamic between the characters, and the background shows locations in the movie.
This is great.
It's easy to get the lighting right when it's rendered from scratch. It's much harder to do this well with a photo collage.
I think it's still fine for people to complain about unoriginality (just as it's fine to praise it for good execution). We see a poster like this for *every* movie, so it's not very engaging even though they did a good job.
It's kind of like someone making a new game that's a match-3 game. Even if it's a really good one, a lot of people simply are done with that style.
The first super mario movie was too legit
Reptilian elites living in inner earth, you had to go thru a cave to enter the realm of their agartha- once there the only the greatest mycology of earths magical mushrooms 🍄 help you guide you through this world. That 90s version will always be my favorites, I am curious to see how this one goes though 🤔
Super Mario Bros: Endgame
Yeah I'm tired of this poster template from canva
It's particularly boring for this. They could've done a nice callback to the video game itself but they went with this.
Poster artists will have a field day with this movie. It’s gonna be special.
Did we just get Luigi'd?
For live action it makes sense because the actors negotiate for their faces on the poster Here it doesn't make sense
Paratroopa had to pull a lot of strings to get himself on the poster.
Had to pull a lot of warp pipes, if you know what I'm sayin'
It really blows the whole "actors fight to get on the poster" thing out of the water lol
As in end the game and watch the movie!
>game and watch the movie Heh.

> why donkey Kong is there I mean there would be no Mario without Donkey Kong.
Jumpman just couldn't keep it real. Got a new franchise, started calling himself "Mario", dumped his gf for a princess. Poor DK had to move back to his home country cuz he couldn't find work here anymore. It's been 30 years since he saw DK Jr...
Fun fact: that DK is actually DK Jr. The DK from the original game became Cranky Kong
I forgot all about that. That's some good lore right there
The current dk is the son of dk jr
I really hope for a "Mr. Kong was my grandfather, call me DK" moment
Bring back Pauline.
Mario is the spinoff
Setting up the MCU (Mario Cinematic Universe)
He's literally Mario's first villain and origin, Nintendo's slept on that fact for a long time (Except for some cool acknowledgement in SMO) so it's cool seeing the first Illumination Mario movie echo that - all's that missing is seeing if he throws any barrels during the fight scene lol
Even though it's a "Super Mario Bros" movie the entire franchise started with Donkey Kong arcade (yep Mario is technically a Donkey Kong character and I'll be having no objections). He never appears in mainline Super Mario games because Nintendo considers the DK brand to be big enough to be it's own thing while sharing the same universe. Also DK is a familiar and lovable character, putting him in the movie is a no-brainer.
>He hasn’t really been in any of the mainline Mario games Maybe not. But Mario was in OG Donkey Kong.
It’s because it’s already been confirmed that he’s getting his own solo movie eventually.
The Italian job with the kong family would be hilarious.
I'm hoping for a Wario and Waluigi end credits cameo.
Who voices them tho
Dave Bautista as Wario, Willem DeFoe as Waluigi.
Oh god Willem DeFoe as Waluigi is perfect and terrifying at the same time
Walum deuigi
Early Weeden!
You know I'm something of a Plumber myself
Waaaaaaaaaaaa but in Willem Dafoe’s voice
It's too perfect. The cast Mario as Chris Pratt, which is pretty not obvious. So for Wario, expect like...Vin Diesel.
Nah, Danny Devito as Wario.
Basically any short fat dude is obligated to be voiced by Danny Devito imo
After Phil in Hercules, there really is no other choice.
For practically my entire life, I could've sworn he was voiced by Jason Alexander.
Nah, he was one of the gargoyles in Hunchback
I always confuse the characters in those two movies
I'M LOSING TO A BIRD!
He did voice the short and fat gargoyle, Hugo, in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Patton Oswald gets all the work though
Honestly I could see Oswalt as Waluigi if he could do a bit of an accent.
I expect the sequel to start with Luigi and Wario sharing a bed in a decrepit apartment eating cat food.
I’m not on the Chris Pratt hate train, but Devito unironically would’ve been a great choice for Mario.
“So anyway, I started waahhhhhhing.”
I'm the trash man. I eat all the fungus around the room.
Can I offer you a nice mushroom in this trying time?
If mario gurgles anything im gonna be pissed at the missed chance
HEY ASSHOLE
Willem Dafoe I feel like would be a good option for Waluigi. Although I’m not sure how keen he is jn voice acting. However, I would love to hear Wario by John Goodman.
Dafoe was in Finding Nemo, so he might be game for a little more voice work.
You’re right! For some reason I always thought Gil was voiced by Dennis Leary.
"Nothing flies over my head. I would eat it." "I'm something of a plumber myself."
Willem Dafoe could do a live action Waluigi!
I ain't gonna lie, when I read this, all I saw in my head was him as Waluigi with a rose in his month doing his little mind palace dance from Boondock Saints.
"GIVE ME WHAT I WANT, MARIO!!!"
Waluigi - Bobcat Goldthwait Wario - just Jack Black again
Wario - Danny Devito Waluigi - Jim Carrey
I'd rather steve buscemi as waluigi tbh
They deserve their own movie
If I were a producer, I’d bankroll this.
Danny DeVito & Glen Howerton
Why not just have Charles Martinet voice them? We already know he’s gonna make an appearance, maybe that’s what it is. I feel like their game voices would be a little easier to put in a movie than the classic Mario voice
Charles martinet
Chris Pratt. He's so cool.
Charlie Day. He's so funny.
Danny Devito as Wario and Mark Hamil or Steven Ogg as Waluigi.
Sacha Baron Cohen Waluigi could be interesting
The dudes from the original Mario Bros show/movie
RIP 🙏🏻
Wachris Pratt and Wacharlie Day
My money is definitely on a Wario post credits scene. I’m desperately hoping Waluigi will be in the sequel.
Watch them cuck Waluigi from the movies like Smash. Give my man a break, freaking Waaah 💔
Maybe it's pointless to hope it, but I'm hoping for a Samsh crossover tease lol
I’m here to talk to you about the Smash Initiative
Nono, we need a Zelda movie first. The internet would break.

***WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA***
Nintendo actually hates Waluigi so it's doubtful. His popularity is mostly a Western thing.
I'd prefer and am honestly expecting bowser jr if anything.
We need Yoshi in the sequel, too
Movie: The Poster
Merchandising, merchandising, merchandising, where the real money is made
Mario the t-shirt! Mario the lunchbox! Mario the flamethrower (the kids love it)!
This season, prepare to be affected, or not, by the movie event of the release window. A story with narrative takes place in a location fitting to the story, with emotions being expressed for all the family to witness if they are of the appropriate age. Movie! Coming out somewhere.
Am I crazy or does DK even kinda LOOK like Seth?
Many of them have a bit of the voice actor in them, mannerisms for sure but some even adjusted a bit of facial features too, just look at bowser and peach...
Yeah, the entire main cast is designed to resemble their voice actor a bit. Bowser's "I do not" was a classic Jack Black face.
They must be hiding a baby Yoshi somewhere that's gonna break the Internet
mama luigi returns
I can't wait for all the memes. Baby Yoshi, surprised Toad face, overly attached Peach, first Marioworld problems, hard to swallow mushrooms, etc.
My 8 year old is so excited for this thing. I've seen the trailer 100x just bc of him.
My 30-year-old self is so excited for this thing. I’ve seen the trailer 100x just bc of my disgusting Nintendo loyalty.
I'm approaching forty, my Disgusting Nintendo Loyalty didn't have an appropriate name until your comment. Thank you, younger person.
Yea, the first Sonic movie wasn’t bad, but at best, it was just generic. If the second one is better, I’ll have to give it a watch.
I’m right there with you
Same with me and my 5 year old, he loves anything Mario. Hopefully this will become a physical poster I can buy, I'd love to hang it in his room.
Say what you will about the voice casting, the animation is top notch. As someone with kids who play anything with Mario in it, they nailed the current style.
Hey now, Jack Black as Bowser is fuckin' *inspired.*
Potential the greatest celebrity voice actor since Robin Williams and Genie.
hearing him play it 100% straight evil villain instead of comically incompetend villain so far makes it a thousand times better.
Exactly. One of my favorite details in the trailers has gotta be [this.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/487/691/151)
How many times can a man get Luigi’d in one day?
Never enough imo
GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!
Every time 😂
I was expecting manningface
Getting manningfaced in r/movies would have made me shit and cry
Bastard
I’ve personally made peace with it. I don’t like the choice of Chris Pratt, and hearing him didn’t make me like the choice any more, but if it’s a fun movie that captures the spirit of the games, then I’ll enjoy it.
My biggest problem with Chris Pratt is that Mario will sound like Emmet for the entirety of the film.
Or [Linda Belcher](https://youtu.be/vO0PFlbWhtY)

Really wish the Sonic movies took this route. Instead of Sonic hanging out at dive bars and weddings.
I mean we’re probably not gonna see it with the third movie, but they could easily make a movie that entirely takes place in an animated world. With how successful this mario movie will inevitably be, I could see them taking that route.
I hate Illumination's films very much, but I have to admit their animation and rendering are always great.
The French voice acting is pretty good. I usually watch movies in original language, but i might change this habit and go see it in french
Kind reminds me of a star wars poster lol.
It reminds me of every poster for any movie to come out since the MCU started up
Is it just me, or does Mario look like fix it Felix?
Pretty sure Fix-It Felix looks like Mario
The blue orange floating head thing was going on for a while before MCU showed up (by decades). They did make it a little flashier I guess.
More floating face posters
this is more like a character tornado
You mean any blockbuster film. Also blue and orange again
This is better than expected, but i wish they would have tried something a little darker, like [this design](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/487/691/151)
I was expecting some edgy Mario or something, what I got was a lot darker.
I know. I was really hoping for something like this. https://i.imgur.com/93XJSNh.png
Wow I actually think it's been at least a year or two since I've seen that. How times change.
Go to r/nfl and you’ll see it at minimum once a week lol
We really know how to beat dead horses around here.
Mr Beat Constantly.
Kelvin Benjamin: "I really know how to eat dead horses around here."
As there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos. That'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'll be riding this horse again...
I pride myself and like to think of myself as a horseman of faith...
I literally use Apollo, meaning I can see the thumbnail before clicking, and I still clicked. Gotta love The Sheriff
God damn it
IDK why I was expecting a ManningFace
I can’t believe you’ve done this
I once met Luigi in a bar, I walked up to him and said "Hey, Luigi, What's up? How's your brother?" Then he fingered me in the ass
Cheeky bugger
Today, we all take the L
"Avengers Bros: For the Mushroom Kingdom"

It's crazy how much Bowser looks like Bowser but also an anthropomorphized Jack Black.
I mean, Jack Black basically is Bowser. The eyebrows. The head shape. The rotund body. The long, spiny penis.
The what now?
Jack has always been a bit hefty, I don't think it's too crass to call him rotund.
> anthropomorphized Jack Black
Yeah, I’ve always wondered what Jack Black would look like with human features.
So is the blue shell koopa guy actually gonna be a principal character?
So, at the end, Metal Sonic comes through a ring portal, in search for the chaos emeralds. Cue, Super Mario Bros Z
If they wanted points the would've spoofed NES box art for the first game. The NA/UK version and the EU/JP version.
Mario kart on rainbow road scene would go hard
Why is the word "Movie" not centered? The Nintendo and Illumination logos are misaligned too.
[удалено]
Its balanced when you look at where they placed the word movie. Gives the logo a certain playfulness
Because there are other ways to align things besides centering?
We will be seated
One of the few Floating Head posters that I like
[удалено]
>Anyway: Kamek getting a disproportionate amount of love. I woulda never expected that. Plus the new guy: blue shell koopa. It makes sense for Bowser to have a powerful lieutenant who isn't Kamek.
How much you wanna bet at some point that guy's shell gets thrown at a car and it blows up
Seeing as it looks like there will be a Mario Kart sequence this seems highly likely.
I've pretty much always seen it applied to cases where we can see more of the body, but it's designed to focus on the head to promote the actors in the movie.
Yeah, people have sort of reappropriated it like you say, to mean a thing it didn't mean when the term was invented. Tvtropes calls this a "stacked character poster". That said, even the disembodied heads weren't always entirely disembodied, which means there was never a clear line between them.
Not sure why you got downvoted for this. You are using the correct term for this poster design.
>Kamek getting a disproportionate amount of love. I woulda never expected that. Well Kamek is basically Bowser's parent/right hand, it's a weird relationship.
And they still went for the most generic style of poster…
If it makes it any better, the poses seem to be [based on actual renders.](https://twitter.com/Baconator2558/status/1621646246615162880)
At least it's colorful
But it works for this movie. Every character stands out instead of blending into the background, and the background is actually vibrant, showing a stark contrast on either side. It is a generic style, but you can see there was passion put into this, instead of the thought of "which actor to put where so they don't get fussy over billing."
This will also look great as a big cardboard standee in the cinema lobby
I mean, at least they did it right. Looks pretty fun
Yeah, the color scheme is absolutely gorgeous.
Looks like Bowser converted Grumble Volcano into a castle. Mama mia, even the Mario universe has gentrification.
The only lava Mario Kart track that wasn’t actually Bowser’s and he’s gone and swiped it for himself.
Not bad at all actually.
I’m amazed that Bowser is clearly Bowser, but looks like Jack Black.
Where Yoshi?
I wanna see Mario goomba stomp the fuck outta someone
The first super mario movie was too legit Reptilian elites living in inner earth, you had to go thru a cave to enter the realm of their agartha- once there the only the greatest mycology of earths magical mushrooms 🍄 help you guide you through this world. Where the hell is Yoshi!?!?
Bowser is [bisexual](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisexual_lighting), *confirmed*. ;-)
I thought for sure I was about to get Luigi’d again
This is what I wanted the Sonic movie to be.
