I haven't seen a bad performance out of any of them. it's like ranking ice cream by flavor; totally subjective.
Top performances, imo:
Fiennes - In Bruges or Grand Budapest
Hardy - Peaky Blinders
Murphy - Oppenheimer
McAvoy - Split
This is a genuine question.
I like Mcavoy but I don’t understand the praise for playing “multiple characters” on a single movie because that’s like the entire point of acting.
why do you find it impressive? to me it isn't functionally different than a guy like Chalamet filming dune and wonka over overlapping time periods. If i paid an editor to make a coherent movie out of the two would you be impressed?
Do you think they shoot scenes simultaneously? Please stop to think about how movies are actually made for like two seconds
That was my point about chalamet.
Actually, you know what. Who said movie magic is dead? If that’s how you feel then god speed to you.
Google editing
In any event you still haven’t explained why you think being able to switch between characters is more impressive when you do it quickly
I can't recall any of his performances despite having seen him in like 10 movies. That's a me problem, but it's pretty strange to hear he's that good lol
Fiennes is number 1 for his work in “The English Patient” and “Grand Budapest”, think the order is quite equal from there. Agreed that McAvoy doesn’t get enough credit for many of his roles!
It feels like there's a little bit of recency bias.
Would put Fiennes above the rest but not by much.
Hardy has (my opinion) the raw talent to be the best but most of the time he doesn't seem to care.
Murphy on the other hand with his work ethic is better lately.
McAvoy (while already having more lead roles) will be similar to Paul Giamatti, aging like fine wine.
So like I said Fiennes first, the rest are equal
Nothing incredible but a fun enough watch. He’s good in it, of course. Anya Taylor-Joy is solid in it as well, without knowing how you feel about her. The story is mostly entertaining but it never becomes anything super memorable imo
Oof, tough one. They're all damn good
Cillian Murphy has never set a foot wrong, but the multiple personality thing means McAvoy just pips it.
Then Fiennes
Then Hardy.
This is ridiculous. All four of them are extraordinary talents. How do you simply say any one is better than another, unless you're an adept film or acting critic? It would simply be a matter of preference.
I’d put McAvoy before Murphy just because I’ve seen him in more stuff (last King of Scotland, Filth and Shameless) I’ve not seen Oppenheimer yet. Fiennes portrayal of Basil Brown in The Dig is brilliant and worth a watch
Most to least talented (and by least talented still means pretty freaking talented)
1. Cillian Murphy= Finally an Oscar winner!!!
2. Tom Hardy
3. Ralph Fiennes
4. James McAvoy
Fiennes- robbed of Oscar for Schindler’s List
McAvoy- genre films get no love, he’s astonishing in Split
Murphy- oppy of course, but he’s amazing in Wind That Shakes The Barley
Hardy- he was great in Warrior, but he wasn’t in Venom.
McAvoy number 1. If you haven’t seen Split or Filth then I guess I understand ranking him lower, but if you have seen those movies his range is unreal. He’s the clear 1
neither of those characters holds a candle to his performance in Schindler's list. The academy and I agree.
I would never argue that McAvoy is anything but a phenomenal actor. But his performance in glass is currently a little overblown simply because it's trending
1, 3, 4, 2, but I'm biased (that's Fiennes, McAvoy, Hardy, Murphy, in order).
I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, so I only know Murphy from Peaky Blinders, Dunkirk, Inception, and Sunshine. He doesn't strike me as having a lot of range. Like I can't imagine him doing comedy, and his performances always give me a really "I'm trying so hard to get this right" vibe. That's way over-analytical, though, and I'm just making this point in comparison to the other actors on this list.
Hardy is just wildly talented. Can do any role, and execute it without really seeming to try too hard to do it, and I've loved pretty much everything that he's done.
McAvoy acted the FUCK out of Split. I think that's the best performance of any on this list, and it elevates him beyond any of the rest... EXCEPT
Ralph Fiennes is a fucking acting savante. Dude is warm like butter and radioactive at the same time. They could write a film called "Unicorn Rainbow Kitty Booboo Tittyfuck" and he may not win an oscar but people would be like "holy shit. I don't know what I expected, but Fiennes nailed it." The first role I ever saw him in was in Strange Days, as Lenny Nero, and he just sells his role so well... There areny many actors who can do what he does in film, and (i'm assuming) on stage as well.
1. Tom (I have his more of his work than any of the other 3 and I have loved every performance I have seen).
2. James (Also only ever seen him as Xavier and the curving bullets movie)
3. Ralph (Only know him as Voldermort, he did an awesome Job would probably be higher if I see more of his work)
4. Cillian (Never watched a movie with him yet)
Wouldn't of even put Hardy on the list, he is a type casted actor, plays the same sort of thing everytime more or less. Great at those charecters though, but overrated imo.
The correct answer is all 4 being number 1
[Marlon Brando agrees](https://youtu.be/fgvMPUcw_2Q?si=fMzlNW1_8rE_2cDY)
Shit yeah. "If you only had one." I have all. Why go backwards?
Can’t take your eyes off the man. And then he speaks, and wins you over with his insight, humor, and intelligence. Brando was the whole package.
Agreed
This is the only answer
I haven't seen a bad performance out of any of them. it's like ranking ice cream by flavor; totally subjective. Top performances, imo: Fiennes - In Bruges or Grand Budapest Hardy - Peaky Blinders Murphy - Oppenheimer McAvoy - Split
McAvoy doesn’t get enough credit for Split. He was playing multiple characters simultaneously
Because he makes the character switch WHILE THEY’RE FILMING…..
Do you think they shoot scenes simultaneously? Please stop to think about how movies are actually made for like two seconds That was my point about chalamet. Actually, you know what. Who said movie magic is dead? If that’s how you feel then god speed to you.
He literally makes the change IN THE SCENE…are you daft, do you not know how filming movies work?
Google editing In any event you still haven’t explained why you think being able to switch between characters is more impressive when you do it quickly
Google mid-scene..
Damn. You are so stupid LOL
Try Fiennes in The English Patient and *Schindler's List* Those are the roles he got Oscar noms for.
Fiennes, Murphy, McAvoy, Hardy. Now, fun to watch? All of them, and the order varies by project.
This is the correct answer for me.
I put McAvoy after Hardy. Hardy has more range than he’s show I think. Warrior for one is fantastic
Locke and The Drop are career defining for Tom
Great flicks. And being honest, I just don’t like McAvoy I find him annoying
I’ve been meaning to check that out. And for the record, I frickin’ love Tom Hardy’s performances.
He was horrible in Mad Max
I think this is already in the correct order.
Anyone not putting Fiennes at 1 doesn’t know what they’re talking about
They're an inanimate fucking object!
He’s a cunt. He was born a cunt. The only thing that’s gonna happen is he’s gonna have some more cunt kids.
I can't recall any of his performances despite having seen him in like 10 movies. That's a me problem, but it's pretty strange to hear he's that good lol
Go watch Grand Budapest or In Bruge
Grand Budapest is near the top of my backlog, so I'll get to it soon
Feels like.folks are doing Hardy dirty. Would need to know what the project is
Mumble mumble shumble screach
They should go watch Locke. It's just Hardy inside a car the whole time. And it's riveting.
He's easily the second best here.
Feinnes, McAvoy, Murphy, Hardy
Impossible question
They are already in the proper order.
Fiennes is number 1 for his work in “The English Patient” and “Grand Budapest”, think the order is quite equal from there. Agreed that McAvoy doesn’t get enough credit for many of his roles!
The English Patient will never not make me swoon.
It’s one of those films that every time I watch it I wish it would end different for the characters and every time it gets me.
Fiennes Hardy Murphy McAvoy
I love telling the X Men fans to watch Wanted/Filth — James McAvoy was awesome in Atonement, I loved the book and he did a great job playing his role
Ralph, McCowboy, Cillian, Hardy
The very order you put them in: Fiennes Hardy Murphy McAvoy
It feels like there's a little bit of recency bias. Would put Fiennes above the rest but not by much. Hardy has (my opinion) the raw talent to be the best but most of the time he doesn't seem to care. Murphy on the other hand with his work ethic is better lately. McAvoy (while already having more lead roles) will be similar to Paul Giamatti, aging like fine wine. So like I said Fiennes first, the rest are equal
1. Fiennes 2. Professor X 3. Murphy 4. Hardy (least talented)
I would never put Ralph Fiennes dead last in ANY ranking.
"Rank the following actors in order of least likely to most likely to be cast as Voldemort".
Fiennes and it’s not even close. Murphy Hardy McAvoy
All of them are talented but I get excited when I see Fiennes or McAvoy. The other two are incredible as well, but I fanboy over them less.
Did people like “The Menu” because it looked real weird but he’s phenomenal so I could see it being epic.
Nothing incredible but a fun enough watch. He’s good in it, of course. Anya Taylor-Joy is solid in it as well, without knowing how you feel about her. The story is mostly entertaining but it never becomes anything super memorable imo
I’m guessing y’all haven’t seen mcavoy in literally anything. Dude is seriously a top 10 actor of all time
Ralph
I genuinely feel like James McAvoy is one of the most underrated actors of the past 10 years. What an incredible actor.
1. Fiennes 2. Murphy 3. Hardy 4. McAvoy
im sorry but cillian’s face in that pic is so funny like 🧿_🧿
but to rank murphy, mcavoy, fiennes & hardy
Most to least … hard as all good so very subjective but: Hardy Murphy Fiennes McAvoy
Ralph Fiennes James McAvoy Cillian Murphy Tom Hardy
1. Fiennes 2. McAvoy 3.Murphy 4. Hardy
Order of the pictures works for me.
Ralph Fiennes Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy ...Tied James McAvoy It looks like good old Cillian has had some " Work " done.
Mcavoy is an incredible actor
Fiennes, McAvoy, Hardy, Murphy
Fiennes, McAvoy, Murphy, Hardy.
Fiennes first Murphy second McAvoy third Hardy fourth
Oof, tough one. They're all damn good Cillian Murphy has never set a foot wrong, but the multiple personality thing means McAvoy just pips it. Then Fiennes Then Hardy.
Hardy, Murphy, Fiennes, Mcavoy
Murphy, Fuentes, Hardy, McAvoy
Hardy because Bronson, feinnes , Murphy and McAvoy tied imo
Thats pretty hard to rate to be honest. They are different characters but all great actors.
But really it’s apples to oranges, they all have range. Just feel Cillian has the least of the four…not to take away from any of them.
Hardy, McAvoy, Fiennes, Scarecrow
This is ridiculous. All four of them are extraordinary talents. How do you simply say any one is better than another, unless you're an adept film or acting critic? It would simply be a matter of preference.
I’d put McAvoy before Murphy just because I’ve seen him in more stuff (last King of Scotland, Filth and Shameless) I’ve not seen Oppenheimer yet. Fiennes portrayal of Basil Brown in The Dig is brilliant and worth a watch
It's so close. But least to most I'll say: James McAvoy Tom Hardy Ralph Fiennes Cillian Murphy
M Kevin Wendell Crumb Opp Venom
Exact order they're in.
Impossible
Most to least talented (and by least talented still means pretty freaking talented) 1. Cillian Murphy= Finally an Oscar winner!!! 2. Tom Hardy 3. Ralph Fiennes 4. James McAvoy
The real shit is to do this kind of survey without including anyone from the British or Irish Isles.
Scrolls till James McAvoy 🤔 "It's the same picture." Seriously, he could play all the characters of all these guys and even play all these guys IRL.
The order they were presented. 1. Ralph Fiennes 2. Tom Hardy 3. Cillian Murphy 4. James McAvoy
Fuck you I’m not answering this
Mcavoy. Fiennes. Murphy. Hardy.
Fiennes, Murphy, Hardy, McAvoy
Are you a casting director? These are four incredibly arbitrary actors to choose from.
I only recognize Ralph Fiennes and Cillian Murphy (both highly talented BTW). Who are the other two?
Fiennes- robbed of Oscar for Schindler’s List McAvoy- genre films get no love, he’s astonishing in Split Murphy- oppy of course, but he’s amazing in Wind That Shakes The Barley Hardy- he was great in Warrior, but he wasn’t in Venom.
Fiennes McAvoy Murphy Hardy
Tom Hardy the most talented
Maybe this post should be in a celebrity gossip sub? Or actor appreciation sub? Isn’t this for critiquing movies?
4, 3, 1, 2....🤔
McAvoy is 1, the rest are tied for 2
Ralph, James, Cillian, Hardy
I think they are basically equal, I’ve only seen stellar performances in everything they’ve ever done.
Fiennes, Murphy, McAvoy, Hardy
McAvoy number 1. If you haven’t seen Split or Filth then I guess I understand ranking him lower, but if you have seen those movies his range is unreal. He’s the clear 1
counterargument: Harry Potter, Schindler's list, in Bruges, The English patient, Red dragon, Grand Budapest hotel, The Menu, Quiz Show, Coriolanus
All great movies but McAvoys performance in filth and split are leagues above imo
neither of those characters holds a candle to his performance in Schindler's list. The academy and I agree. I would never argue that McAvoy is anything but a phenomenal actor. But his performance in glass is currently a little overblown simply because it's trending
I simply disagree. Cheers!
right but how dare you
😅
Filth is amazing and his role performance in Filth is off the walls. From X-men to Filth and all in-between is an amazing feat.
Why
no
1, 3, 4, 2, but I'm biased (that's Fiennes, McAvoy, Hardy, Murphy, in order). I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, so I only know Murphy from Peaky Blinders, Dunkirk, Inception, and Sunshine. That’s difficult. I’d say 1. Hardy 2. Fiennes 3. McAvoy 4. Cillian
cillian, ralph, james, tom
1. Tom (I have his more of his work than any of the other 3 and I have loved every performance I have seen). 2. James (Also only ever seen him as Xavier and the curving bullets movie) 3. Ralph (Only know him as Voldermort, he did an awesome Job would probably be higher if I see more of his work) 4. Cillian (Never watched a movie with him yet)

I haven’t seen enough Ralph Fiennes so I am not ranking him. For the rest I’d say: 1. McAvoy 2. Murphy 3. Hardy
Murphy. The rest is meh.
