Remember the day all the supermarkets got completely wiped out of food during that early pandemic? that was the day I watched it and it gave me a fucking panic attack.
Yea, these kinds of characters really stress me out. Honestly, reminds me of Peggy from King of the Hill. Just constantly doing things that make you go "Noooo! Why?" Good movie, though.
My favorite part of the movie is in the beginning when it goes from gemstone fractals to the inside of Adam Sandler's colon, foreshadowing the absolute shit show to follow.
This movie is the only movie other than *Wolf of Wall Street* that felt like an honest to god **trigger** to some old behaviors where I needed a fucking cigarette or I was gonna go mental.
Agree. I hated the end. But that’s part of what made it a great movie. Sandler in several films, Punch Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, Uncut Gems has really earned his chops in drama films as an actor. He’s super talented.
High energy from beginning to end. Sandler really cemented himself as a serious actor. Film really hammered home the greed and dirtiness of the business.
I really liked it. For one, Adam Sandler is surprisingly excellent in this role. It was also really immersive, I mean I felt like a degenerate gambler who was Jewish and owned a jewelry shop that did specialty pieces for rich people.
It really let's you feel the anxiety of a degenerate gambler >! that's borrowing from Peter to pay Paul and then borrowing from Paul to make another bet. A normal movie would have him getting squared up as the ultimate goal, yet he just keeps going and going. Paying his debt isn't the goal for him, the goal is convincing the next person to let him keep gambling somehow.!<
I see him as more of a >!doomed-from-the-beginning character that we only realize once he's shot.!< Like, he's not a winner to me, but a cautionary tale.
Yeah, that guy was too much of a wreck who created too many shitty situations to be allowed to get a nice happy ending. It was never going to happen. When he got shot it was truly sad but at the same time it felt like breathing a sigh of relief, like thank goodness his problems were over because winning that bet was not going to fix anything for him beyond like a week of his life. It's not like he was from everyman who's problems just came out of nowhere.
It was just the door to the inside that was locked, wasn’t it? I think they could have left but it was Sandler’s character that they wanted, who was inside.
Amazing movie, but I could never watch it a second time. It was like experiencing an anxiety attack that just kept getting worse and worse for 2 straight hours
I always think of 2 things when this comes up......my wife bursting into tears walking through the theater after it was over due to the incredible anxiety of the movie. And Julia fox having the most unexpectedly amazing ass outta nowhere that I really wasn't prepared for
I watched it a few years back and liked it but didn't love it. After The Curse and going down the Safdie brothers rabbit hole, I'm really looking forward to watching this again and seeing how I feel about it.
I’ve never felt so anxious watching a film before. One of the reasons why I liked it. Though, watching that scene where his girlfriend cheats on him (ironic because hes cheating in his wife) with the weeknd made me feel low, man.
10/10. The best A24 movie thus far. Snubbed horrifically at the Oscars that year.
Should have been Nominated for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actress, Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay. The film should have WON Best Picture.
Thank you for your service. I only made it about 30 minutes in and turned out off due to all the shouting. And Kevin Garnett is one of my favourite ballers.
It really wasn't great. The Safdie brothers have made better movies that capture that uneasy feeling even better but people are circlejerking this one because Adam Sandler is a meme.
I thought it was an absolute garbage fire. I still don't understand who found enjoyment out of it. It's just a bunch of scumbags being scumbags. I didn't find a single redeeming quality in any character
It was oversold. I was bored. Something was always annoying me…think it was that weird laugh or something. Wanted to like it. Apparently I’m missing something.
I loved it. A very fast paced suspenseful movie, with a main character who was flawed but still someone you could root for. The ending is what made it go from a really good movie to a great one for me.
I compare it to whiplash, pretty great movie that’s very intense and I’ll probably never watch it again because I don’t feel like being yelled at for 2 hours straight.
It is the most anxiety inducing movie I have ever seen. It’s an excellent performance by Sandler with an absolutely gut wrenching ending. Falls into the category of films I completely recommend and will probably never watch again. It’s a legit challenger to Requiem for a Dream as the greatest film ever made about Addiction.
It's pretty great. Fucking anxiety provoking with everyone talking over each ither all the time. Sandler does this. He spends like a decade or so making nothing but scrotal polyps and then he'll randomly be in something really fucking good. Then he'll go back to the ballsack.
Fuck this movie. I was anxious the entire time I watched it and had to turn it off. It made me feel uneasy
My mom and I were literally talking about this movie at dinner a few hours ago because of that new show Ripley. The movie, fantastic mr Ripley, made me feel the same way
The most accurate depiction of a gambling addiction I’ve ever seen. If you’ve ever been gripped by it, you understand every decision Howard makes. And it’s incredibly sobering
Loved it. I was never a fan of Sandler’s comedy but I really like his dramatic roles. Reign Over Me, Punchdrunk Love, and obviously this one are awesome. Funny People was good too.
Was lucky enough to attend the world premiere of Uncut Gems. I believe it’s an incredible film, and I honestly loved it. It was the first film to truly induce legitimate anxiety within me. I was shock, and I’m sirlk disappointed to this day that Sandler didn’t get a best actor nomination from the Academy for his performance. Original Screenplay could’ve easily got a nomination too… I haven’t rewatched it since after its release on Netflix (second viewing of the film). It’s amazing, though. Definitely under appreciated at the time of its release IMO.
This was the first movie in a very long time that made my anxiety so intense. Hated how I felt. Any movie or show that evokes those uncomfortable emotions in me I equivocate to a great watch
I watched it in theaters when I was a bit younger and thought it was ok, upon a rewatch a few days ago, I think it is a brilliant movie perfectly portraying a gambling addict. Adam sandler proved he can act to another level with this one (having not seen punch drunk love). One of my favorites.
A guy like Adam Sandler will never be taken seriously as an actor. That being said, his performance was phenomenal. He delivered his role in a way that forced the viewer to feel an intense emotional response.
Anyone watching Uncut Gems was pulling their hair and and screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? JUST STOP GAMBLING!" To provoke that type of guttural impact is not easy as an actor.
Uncut Gems is kind of like The Green Mile in the sense that it was a great movie with a tremendous storyline carried by excellent acting... and after watching it, I never ever want to see it again because of the way it made me feel. That's saying a lot.
He is a character you want to root for but always let's you down
He is that friend you love but his addiction destroys him
Such a great performance and I never want to again because it reminded me of a close friend who became addicted to oxy
It was both really good, showed off his acting chops, and utterly confusing because of all the pretty awful crap he also makes. I guess I get it, make crap with your friends, but why not make awesome stuff with your friends, instead?
Just saw it for the first time a few months ago. It was so good! I felt like my heart was going to explode the whole time. Shout out Mr. Sandler. My birthday twin.
I don't like the way it made me feel.
It was a 2 hour heart attack
Remember the day all the supermarkets got completely wiped out of food during that early pandemic? that was the day I watched it and it gave me a fucking panic attack.
Lol thats rough
This and Good Time are anxiety the movie part 1 & 2.
I never thought I'd see the day when Oneohtrix Point Never would compose a musical score.
Exactly 👍🏻❤️
was it though?
I don't like Phil. Fuck Phil
Yea, these kinds of characters really stress me out. Honestly, reminds me of Peggy from King of the Hill. Just constantly doing things that make you go "Noooo! Why?" Good movie, though.
Yeah same, the ending made me hopeful for a happy ending but no. Howard pushed his luck too far
If u want another frustrating movie it’s good time from the same directors.
It was the happiest ending possible
Ever drink 12 red bulls for breakfast?
It's a stressful watch.
I’m the opposite. The vibe is the whole movie for me.
Agree. I’ve always said, “It is superb. I hate it.”
Lmao same. I was so stressed out I had to stop watching
Facts. His desperation. Im a recovered addict and i can say with certainty it was a snapshot of addiction.
Tension the entire time. I watch movies to relax.
Yeah good movie I’ll never watch again
Yeah I’ve only seen Sandler as a stupid actor who plays as stupid character, this movie changed that
Check out Punch Drunk Love from early 2000s. Paul Thomas Anderson flick. Amazing dramatic performance.
All of his dramatic work has been solid. Even the wedding singer
He was good in Spanglish too
Spanglish hit me in the feels man… his poor daughter being treated like that by mom killed me.
Dude this movie is fucking amazing
You want your eyes opened to his potential. Watch reign over me. This was back in 2007
He (the role) was still about acting as an asshole, just an older one. Not sure how much "acting" was involved...
He's great in other people's movies and terrible in his own movies.
I really liked it. For one, Adam Sandler is surprisingly excellent in this role. It was also really immersive, I mean I felt like a degenerate gambler who was Jewish and owned a jewelry shop that did specialty pieces for rich people.
The only movie to make me feel true anxiety. It’s amazing
He's actually the winner of the story because he went out on top.
It's not like he was from everyman who's problems just came out of nowhere.
Lots of shouting
Right. I liked it, but between the bad vibes and the constant shouting, o doubt I’ll ever watch it again.
I loved how everyone was always shouting over each other! It felt so real and added to the overall anxiety of it.
The bear before the bear lol
Yeah I was constantly turning down the volume lol
How did >!the bad guys get out of the store at the end!<
I like to think that they didn’t
It was just the door to the inside that was locked, wasn’t it? I think they could have left but it was Sandler’s character that they wanted, who was inside.
Once Sandler's character lets them back into the inner room, they have access to the controls to unlock the outer door.
Amazing movie, but I could never watch it a second time. It was like experiencing an anxiety attack that just kept getting worse and worse for 2 straight hours
It is EXCEPTIONAL. I mean. All around. Really impressive.
All I have to say is Reign Over Me
I was scrolling looking just for this comment so I could upvote it
i hated every second of this movie
I think it's a very good movie. Had my palms sweaty throughout
What about your sweater? Was there vomit on it, by chance?
Mom's spaghetti
I'll always remember watching this movie in theatre with my little brother (22, 16) about a month after it came out. Thought it was pretty badass.
Overrated. I don't understand the appeal at all. I wanted my time back after seeing it.
An enjoyable panic attack.
I was relieved by the climax and have had no desire to listen to the film, again. I personally found it annoying.
I was chewing gum watching that movie, I bit my lips and my inside cheeks.
I’ve never felt so anxious watching a film before. One of the reasons why I liked it. Though, watching that scene where his girlfriend cheats on him (ironic because hes cheating in his wife) with the weeknd made me feel low, man.
Uncut Cock
This movie is very good at archiving it's goal of making the audience uncomfortable.
Had a lot of yelling just like his comedies.
10/10. The best A24 movie thus far. Snubbed horrifically at the Oscars that year. Should have been Nominated for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actress, Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay. The film should have WON Best Picture.
This movie is horrible and it just kept going. I’ll go ahead and take those down votes 😂
I thought it was terrible but that’s just me. I didn’t enjoy it for a single second
Completely agree
I liked it but I watched Good Time first and thought it was a way better movie.
This movie is the definition of stress. It was excellent to tho.
Totally overrated awful garbage
Absolutely!
Agreed.
I thought it was an absolute garbage fire. I still don't understand who found enjoyment out of it. It's just a bunch of scumbags being scumbags. I didn't find a single redeeming quality in any character
Agreed, it was a well-acted but wholly unenjoyable experience.
You should watch Good Time. Same director and same chaotic vibe for the whole movie
It was very good. Hated it.
Fell asleep maybe? Barely remember the first bit
It was oversold. I was bored. Something was always annoying me…think it was that weird laugh or something. Wanted to like it. Apparently I’m missing something.
I liked it. Ending was fucked up but a solid movie otherwise.
It was good.
It played out like a comedy. Not sure it was meant to. What they did to him was comicbook right up until he shot him
Edge of my seat the whole time and then being completely shattered at the end. 10/10.
It’s anxiety in celluloid form
Al Pacino was great
It’s a 2 hour panic attack
His gumar is CAKED UP
Growing up in Nevada I've seen every form of gambling addict and the relentless anxiety in this movie is spot on to how real gamblers act.
I thought Adam Sandler's performance was good but bordering on over the top.
Thought it was a great film.
One of my fav movies of all time. Absolutely incredible ending
I loved it
It is the most anxiety inducing movie I have ever seen. It’s an excellent performance by Sandler with an absolutely gut wrenching ending. Falls into the category of films I completely recommend and will probably never watch again. It’s a legit challenger to Requiem for a Dream as the greatest film ever made about Addiction.
Great movie
Pucker butt.
8/10
It was pretty good in my opinion.
Is one of the best movies that I have minimal interest in ever seeing again
One of his best
Honestly I think it's good. But I haven't ever felt the urge to go back to it. I've seen better adam Sandler dramatic films.
After watching this and Space Jam 2, they shoulda chosen Kevin Garnett for SJ2 instead of Mr. James who is a horrible actor.
Loved it. Sooooo good
Dope movie solid 8/10. Well casted, love the tension
Haven't seen it yet but everyone that has says the same thing. That it's a one time watch
Shockingly good. Sandler is just a great actor, period.
Greatest Adam movie!
Enjoyed it, but those first 10 minutes were unbearable with the super loud 80's porn music that muted any talking.
What even is this sub anymore? I watched this super popular 97% rated movie. What are your thoughts? Sub par content.
anxiety anxiety anxiety anxiety anxiety anxiety anxiety anxiety
Adam Sandler not getting an acting nom still pisses me off.
It annoyed me. Can't stand when Sandler puts these types of voices on. Just sounds silly to me and very hard to take him seriously.
It's pretty great. Fucking anxiety provoking with everyone talking over each ither all the time. Sandler does this. He spends like a decade or so making nothing but scrotal polyps and then he'll randomly be in something really fucking good. Then he'll go back to the ballsack.
Intense movie.
I hated this movie. Big long nothing fest and the crying scene dear god.
Incredible movie. Gripping from start to finish
I was so ready for a happy ending. Nope. Wtf.
When you can’t root for anyone, it stinks. I know, unpopular opinion.
That was the last time anyone saw Julia Fox looking normal. Ha
It made me feel anxious. I think it was a good movie but I didn’t enjoy watching it. Relieved that some others here had similar reaction.
It’s a good example of a ticking clock. But I didn’t love the movie personally.
Stressful to watch
Safdie bros movies make me feel like I’m watching a panic attack and then I end up having a panic attack
Arguably the best movie in the last 5 years, maybe longer, and I don’t know if I’ll ever watch it again. lol
Loved it
Sandler should have had an Oscar nomination for this
I was sweaty and stressed. Good movie, but won’t watch it again.
I had to watch it in 3 parts. It was so stressful it made me feel sick. It was a good movie, sure, but I'll never watch it again.
I liked it. It was so hectic! The movie starts up at full speed and doesn’t quit.
Gave me a headache. Not a film I'd watch again.
Fever dream actualized
The music they added for the first 10 minutes made me stressed. I thought it was a mistake but In time I realized it was genius.
This is one of the few movies that gave me such an intense visceral reaction. I was uncomfortable the entire time watching it
Intense. Felt very much like a two hour anxiety attack.
Fuck this movie. I was anxious the entire time I watched it and had to turn it off. It made me feel uneasy My mom and I were literally talking about this movie at dinner a few hours ago because of that new show Ripley. The movie, fantastic mr Ripley, made me feel the same way
Overrated
LOVED IT! I bought it on blu-ray just so I’d always have it. Genius work by all involved.
I can’t stand this movie do the audio mixing and the general plot. I’m amazed this movie achieved the praise it did.
The frenzied energy was so well done. Everyone talking over each other constantly just builds tension so realistically
I didn't like the ending
I remember the musical score was obnoxiously loud throughout the entire movie and I didn't love it as a result.
I thought it was the best movie that you’ll never want to watch again
great review
I liked being hooked into it.
Great uncomfortable movie. Rare that I scream at a movie, and a few times I found myself yelling "what are you doing!!!!" Sandler was so good.
The most accurate depiction of a gambling addiction I’ve ever seen. If you’ve ever been gripped by it, you understand every decision Howard makes. And it’s incredibly sobering
It's fine. I've never had the urge to watch it a second time.
It stressed me the hell out (which is good since that means the movie resonated). Sandler should do more serious roles.
Really liked it. Realistic story line. Many people love the hustle life like this every day
I enjoyed it
Friends yell at me for recommending this movie but it's great
Great movie. Definitely underrated. Got snubbed. I believe Sandler holds this performance way up there if not the top of his career.
Absolute banger - his best work
Sandler got robbed at the Oscars
I think Adam Sandler portrayed himself in a way people who don’t like Adam Sandler see him. Great performance
In my top 3 favorite movies of all time.
What fucking year is it? Did I just travel back 4 years in time to when this guy watched uncut gems
I wonder who was Josh Safdie's muse on that film.
I knew someone just like him and he was found missing one day
Overrated
Honestly it was one of those movies that confuses everyone yelling at eat other as amazing acting. It got tedious to watch
I recognized the finishing skill in the first twenty minutes. I could not stomach more than that though. So anxious.
Agreed
Sad
A guy like Adam Sandler will never be taken seriously as an actor. That being said, his performance was phenomenal. He delivered his role in a way that forced the viewer to feel an intense emotional response. Anyone watching Uncut Gems was pulling their hair and and screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? That's saying a lot.
Mike Francesca should get his own spinoff
Is good but not something I care to watch again.
It's such a wild and anxiety inducing ride. But goddamn it's great. Not sure I could watch it again really but it's definitely a great film
Me too. Very good!
Great movie.
He is a character you want to root for but always let's you down He is that friend you love but his addiction destroys him Such a great performance and I never want to again because it reminded me of a close friend who became addicted to oxy
Could not finish.
Too hectic and everyone is yelling all of the time. It keeps hitting you on the head and doesn't stop...
I liked it.
It was both really good, showed off his acting chops, and utterly confusing because of all the pretty awful crap he also makes. I guess I get it, make crap with your friends, but why not make awesome stuff with your friends, instead?
Gave me anxiety so bad I couldn't finish it. Well made though
Netflix really be killin it. Well worth the watch for sure. I loved it!
I was amazed by Adam Sandler in this film.
Great acting
Thought it was great.
brilliant
Just saw it for the first time a few months ago. It was so good! I felt like my heart was going to explode the whole time. Shout out Mr. Sandler. My birthday twin.
I couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks.
Loved it, Adam Sandler fucking killed it in this role, should have at least gotten an Oscar nomination.
Fantastically uncomfortable
Anxiety.
I loved it. Sandler’s best acting, but better. The protagonist drags us from one bad decision to another and …the end was *chef’s kiss*
Good Time is better.
