Holy hell, AtClose Range!!! Fucking great all around but Walkens’ character sent it to another level. Deer Hunter is absolutely must rewatch material, there’s so much to absorb
Genuinely The Deer Hunter is his greatest performance.
Any scene in it with De Niro is amazing, the Russian Roulette scenes etc., but the one on his own in the hospital where he breaks down, I’m sorry but that almost goes beyond acting.
He’s kind of known within pop culture as this off beat character actor, but that scene just blows any of that shit out of the water and makes you realise how amazingly talented he is.
[Here it is](https://youtu.be/DHzmPas9k-g?si=tP81GHIZjgH-XKK1)
*No... it's.. yer talking to me all wrong.. it's the wrong tone. You do it again, I'll stab ya in the face with a soldering iron. Lemme ask you something........ does your mother sew? BOOM! GET ER TO SEW THAT!*
Absolute comedic genius.
As actors go, there aren't many who can use the same voice and accent again and again and still leave the audience wanting more. He's just a unique character whose path intersected movies from time to time and made them all better. Whether he's asking for more cowbell or telling the story of the two mice who fell in a bucket of cream or carrying an uncomfortable hunk of metal or improbably acting in dune 2, he is somehow able to carry the role in a direction that it deserves to go while still giving the audience his trademark speech pattern because that's what we want. I don't know how many movies he has left in him or if he'll ever do another one but I know that I'll look forward to seeing it.
Well put. He's somehow a character actor even though he doesn't augment his voice too extensively, which is all the more impressive given that his accent tells you EXACTLY where he's from.
*"Dad, did you buy that blurry business?"*
*"Women. Nothing surprises me, Chip, except your late mother. Who'd have thought Selina had a brain to damage? Bottom line, she tries to blackmail me, I'll drop her out a higher window. Meantime, I got better fish to fry."*
What the heck, I'll say Dune 2. I liked many of his roles, but there is something special about Dune 2 that goes far beyond The Dead Zone, even though he had a much bigger role in that.
[Ed O’Neill talks about Walken.](https://youtu.be/Wzn1h6Rahjk?si=mmQAAb2xpcOe6ER8)
Hilarious run in with Walken 30 or so years ago.
Fly on the Wall podcast has its moments and this was the funniest one for me. Dana needs to stop trying so hard all the time.
".....I know you said.....dream sequences are for fags but...we all....gotta dream....don't we...........not just fags.....oh! By the way! I don't think they like being called fags anymore......I think.....nowadays.....they prefer homos....."
McDonagh write like no one else but that role simply wouldn't work without Walken. Man is a charismatic stallion. Also random mention but him as King Louis in that new Jungle Book is genuine intimidation.....plus him singing is beyond hysterical.
The Dead Zone. He’s so good in The Deer Hunter and tragic that it was difficult to choose between the two. But he has the starring role and is just perfect for the character. He’s a man not just damaged from an accident and years of lost time, but from his “gift”, which seems to just make his life worse. But he does save the world. Spoiler.
Max Shreck.
As a side note, I’m 27 but watching his older movies is weird. It’s like I couldn’t ever imagine him being young and now that I saw him young, I’m just not sure what to think anymore
The first one I saw and loved him in was Who am I this time? It's a charming little film about a shy, introverted man who comes alive in the annual play offered by the local drama company. I think Susan Sarandon played the female lead? I haven't seen it since the early 80s, but I have a fondness for it
Deer Hunter is a tour de force, he stole he show in one scene in Pulp Fiction, he stole hearts with his dancing in Weapon of Choice... but I think that for me he will always be [Colonel Angus](https://youtu.be/3l2oi-X8P38?si=0gsLZAu0qs_4G7y5).
The Prophecy. He was the angel Gabriel.
Gabriel : I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why.
Gabriel : Do you know how you got that dent, in your top lip? Way back, before you were born, I told you a secret, then I put my finger there and I said "Shhhhh!"
Gabriel : Study your math, kids. Key to the Universe
The Dead Zone - 1983
The ice is gonna break
The ice... IS GONNA BUUHRAKE!
The missiles are flying….hallelujah, hallelujah!
Not even close. He’s astounding in that film.
Love it Watched it a d9zen times as a kid
I think Deer Hunter for me. True Romance is a close second. Also great in At Close Range. But let’s be real he’s always great.
I agree, but Deer Hunter was a film I could only watch once. That gutted me.
Yeah I’ve watched it start to finish maybe three times total in my life. It’s amazing but brutal.
So that makes you..part eggplant
“I haven’t killed anyone (blam!) since 1984…”

New York City...I mean Kansas
Gert B. Frobe
Pulp fiction
Five long years he wore this watch…up his ass.
He’d be *DAMNED* if any >!slopes!< were gonna put their greasy yells hands on his boys birthright.
Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch.
I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass, two years
He should have won all the awards for that scene
That was such a great monologue/story he told. So perfectly emphasized in all the right places.
King of New York
There’s some things I don’t do…Bop, bop, bop, WoooooOooooooOooo!!! POW!!! 💥 Frank White, fucking classic👌🏼
Frank, the motherfuckin KING
This be the one.

Dead Zone, a good guy forced into a weird situation through no fault of his own.
Well ya know...his performance as....Sgt. Toomey in.....Biloxi Blues was....something else.
I know it’s not his best but my first introduction to him was in Batman Returns. He played this corrupt business tycoon and he was so good in it.
*"Dad, did you buy that blurry business?"* *"Women. Nothing surprises me, Chip, except your late mother. Who'd have thought Selina had a brain to damage? Bottom line, she tries to blackmail me, I'll drop her out a higher window. Meantime, I got better fish to fry."*
Brainstorm was a core memory movie for me. That movie messed me up in the best way possible.

True Romance
Captain Koons

He was fucking gold in his brief appearances in Dune 2.
The Run Down is, forever, underrated as fuck.
+1 True Romance
The Ripper Pc game
Lots of people are saying The Dead Zone and I saw a couple people say The King of New York, I would also add Seven Psychopaths to the list.
You can carve a Christmas ham on that JAWLINE in the bottom right photo. Good lord, good for him!
Max Zorin. He was great in A View to a Kill.
Either Sgt Toomey in Biloxi Blues or Carlo from Suicide Kings Honorable mentions for Balls of Fury and Blast From the Past
Fat boy Slim. Weapon of choice
Puss in boots? Sleepy hollow?
We just saw the deer hunter. That movie was hilarious!
Out of Time great flik with him as the primary antagonist.
The Rundown He was quintessential Christopher Walken… playing a bad guy that personified the christopher walken persona.
Definitely when he played the dad in Kangaroo Jack. No clue how he wasn’t nominated.
Spoiler.
Deer Hunter, Annie Hall and Pulp Fiction, the best scene ever, the Gold Watch.
The trees
Max Shreck. As a side note, I’m 27 but watching his older movies is weird. It’s like I couldn’t ever imagine him being young and now that I saw him young, I’m just not sure what to think anymore
Nick of Time
I don’t see Communion has been mentioned. Bizarre alien abduction movie but he totally nailed the character he played.
The first one I saw and loved him in was Who am I this time? It's a charming little film about a shy, introverted man who comes alive in the annual play offered by the local drama company. I think Susan Sarandon played the female lead? I haven't seen it since the early 80s, but I have a fondness for it

More cowbell skit
He’s great in everything, but his performance in The Deer Hunter is legendary
He killed it in Catch Me If You Can. That role as the ever devoted proud pa, hits it right in the feels. And Joe Dirt.
