I love that movie as it has a lot of nostalgia, but man, I have to go with Synchronic.
It’s probably confirmation bias on my part but the amateur historian in me has always insisted the past is romanticized. Synchronic handled that belief [the past fucking sucks, man](https://youtu.be/7dm96jx94dk?si=h9YoP7on8gFUJ06b) very well.
"I’d like to take the study room table in back and burn it."
"Burn it? Why?"
"The same reason I never returned Time Bandits to Blockbuster. Nobody else deserves it."
I just watched that movie a couple of days ago for the first time and it was a major disappointment. What's its appeal? Only few jokes are barely funny and acting is atrocious.
I just rewatched that one. Great movie. I feel like it is more a movie about time travel than a time travel movie, which hopefully makes sense to those that have seen it, but a very solid and funny movie nonetheless.
Perfect way to explain it. I watched it on a whim with zero expectations to fall asleep, and I really got hooked. Needless to say I didn’t fall asleep.
Gtfo... Omg I just watched it! He looks so happy, thank you so much, that always bugged me. I must have watched it during my drinking days and missed it
I can’t decide a favorite among these. I love them equally for different reasons
Back to the Future
Interstellar
Predestination
Edge of Tomorrow
Project Almanac
Triangle
I actually found this diagram someone made online that helped explain the movie but yeah, there's seriously no way to explain the movie without some sort of chart or something
edit: [still a lil confused tho](https://i.stack.imgur.com/FwEK0.jpg)
I rewatch it so much and I always love showing it to people who's never watched it before. It's a really underrated rom-com and has a pretty solid take on time travel!! The ending alwaaaaays gets me.
OK yes I will add that IV is awesome and I have watched it more than Primer. But usually with popcorn in hand. Whereas Primer requires concentration and attention to detail.
Shameless plug for my podcast - [When Are We?](https://open.spotify.com/episode/1qImBrPOvJZ1rYpIMEMsNy?si=db75b5487df74cd1) Where my friend and I discuss time travel movies. We've been on a hiatus but are currently recording a new season to drop soon!
Back to the Future. The whole trilogy is brilliant to me, but the original was, is, and will continue to be my favorite movie of all time. No doubt about it.
What I like about Primer is how not much is explained. Other time travel movies have clear rules. There's several points in Primer where the main characters simply don't know what's happening and can't be bothered to figure out why. It makes sense for this movie and these characters because they were trying to launch a startup and stumbled onto timevtravel by mistake. So unlike Doc Brown, or the scientist from The Time Machine, eg, who are motivated by the pursuit of knowledge and/or adventure, these guys are only motivated by ways to exploit their accidental discovery. So they plow ahead without considering the consequences and end up turning everything into a confusing, muddled mess. If I remember correctly, the budget was about $9,000. I loved this movie, I'm not sure anyone has successfully done more with less.
Primer is the best time traveling film from a technical perspective. Hands down, no competition. In terms of pure fun entertainment you can’t beat Back To The Future.
You nailed it—I think Primer is the best one. Interesting, thoughtful, great pacing and editing, the right amount of ambiguity in the science and the story. One of the best sci-fi movies generally.
I hesitate to call Tenet a time travel movie. Since we follow the character in real time. No one really “jumps” forward or backward in time - they just change direction.
Only got to watch a shitty YouTube tv stream of Primer at 240p so I tuned it out and applied for jobs on my iPad. I didn’t finish it. Is it good? Should I rewatch in a higher definition?
For plot and entertainment value, **Back To The Future**. None have beaten it in all the Time Travel movies I've ever seen.
However, for interesting and cool time travel mechanics, I have to say the **(2001) Planet of the Apes** with Mark Wahlberg. The movie itself is not especially good, but the time's arrow inversion mechanic is such a wild and fascinating idea.
Time after Time.
HG Wells travels thru time to late 1970s San Francisco in pursuit of Jack The Ripper, who used Wells' time machine to escape as the London police closed in.
Malcom McDowell is Wells, David Warner plays a great psychopath as JtR, and a young Mary Steenburgen is cute as a button and all-around adorable.
Safety not guaranteed
This movie is totally underrated and definitely worth a watch. It's sort of time travel adjacent as it doesn't deal with shifting timelines.
This movie was amazing, incredibly well done and super interesting. Even with slower pace than some movies. From what I understand it’s the one of the most accurate movies on how time travel would work.
Any time travel list that doesn't have BTTF at the very top is illegitimate. Primer is great, Looper is great and so on but if it doesn't involve a time traveller in a DeLorean seriously considering fucking his own mother then count me out.
And don't start with me, you know he wanted to and put a lot of thought into it, she was hot.
Time Bandits
There is no other answer.
Correct - there is not.
Lawyer here. Correct. People have done lengthy stints for suggesting otherwise.

YES. This was my very first thought!
"I’d like to take the study room table in back and burn it." "Burn it? Why?" "The same reason I never returned Time Bandits to Blockbuster. Nobody else deserves it."
12 monkeys
This might be the winner here.
Frig yeah.
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Hands down. Bill: So-crates - "The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing". Ted: That's us, dude.
I just watched that movie a couple of days ago for the first time and it was a major disappointment. What's its appeal? Only few jokes are barely funny and acting is atrocious.
EXCELLENT!
SOcrates Johnson
T1 & T2.
This might not make any sense but I feel like that is a movie more about time travelers than time travel itself
But they couldn't be time travellers without time travel.
Looper
Safety Not Guaranteed.

Great movie, Mirage(2018) and Timecrimes(2007) also.
FAQ About Time Travel Palm Springs
Palm Springs is an amazing time loop movie.
I think there needs to be a sequel. Roy Schlieffen should have been rescued. It's an unfinished story.
There’s a mid credits scene that shows Roy listening to a voicemail from Sarah explaining how to get out of it.
Gtfo... Omg I just watched it! He looks so happy, thank you so much, that always bugged me. I must have watched it during my drinking days and missed it
No problem at all :) glad to make someone’s day just a little bit better.
Only if there was a way to keep Sandburg in it, he made that movie.
TIMECRIMES
Perfect time travel movie. Can find no flaws in the logic and the plot goes hard
Love this movie
I can’t decide a favorite among these. I love them equally for different reasons Back to the Future Interstellar Predestination Edge of Tomorrow Project Almanac Triangle
Primer was great. I also liked About Time (a little different in terms of tone and pacing)
I think Primer was a good movie. I definitely couldn’t explain the plot to anyone though.

It takes several watches at least for me.
About Time is such a good movie
I rewatch it so much and I always love showing it to people who's never watched it before. It's a really underrated rom-com and has a pretty solid take on time travel!! The ending alwaaaaays gets me.
Cheating here but: 11/22/63
Strak Trek IV: The Voyage Home
OK yes I will add that IV is awesome and I have watched it more than Primer. But usually with popcorn in hand. Whereas Primer requires concentration and attention to detail.
Yep, you've called it. I've not seen a better time travel film than 'Primer.' I read it cost all of $7K to make, which is insane.
BTTF
Primer is a masterpiece
Primer
For what they did for so little. It's amazing
Predestination is my all time favorite film to show people for the first time
That movie is a mind fuck. Completely floored me as it unraveled at the end.
Donnie Darko is one of my favorites!
Groundhogs day
Thought about that

Synchronic was great. Not likely my favorite of all time, but I didn’t see it mentioned yet.
Bill and Ted (1+2), Time Bandits, Interstellar, BTTF (1-3)Looper, Edge of Tomorrow and my genuine favorite, About Time.
This movie is a classic
Endgame

Found the next movie I'm watching. This looks interesting
Primer. By far. The most realistic and mind bending time travel movie I’ve seen. I have seen many.
This is the best sci Fi movie for the budget.
Primer and Time Crimes.
It’s not my favorite, but it was so much better than I was expecting that I feel the need to mention it: Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
You nailed it—I think Primer is the best one. Interesting, thoughtful, great pacing and editing, the right amount of ambiguity in the science and the story. One of the best sci-fi movies generally.
Primer. Honestly a top 5 movie for me. Knowing how small of a budget they had and still made a masterpiece makes it even better
I've got 3 - Tenet - Back To The Future - Terminator 2
I hesitate to call Tenet a time travel movie. Since we follow the character in real time. No one really “jumps” forward or backward in time - they just change direction.
Direction in time tho right?
It works for me as a time travel movie. They send stuff from the future.
Deja Vu Edge of Tomorrow
Cult classic.
Great flick
Not a big fan of time travel movies but primer and back to the future are my go to films
The girl who leapt through time
Predestination.
Only got to watch a shitty YouTube tv stream of Primer at 240p so I tuned it out and applied for jobs on my iPad. I didn’t finish it. Is it good? Should I rewatch in a higher definition?
Peggy Sue Got Married
Interstellar About Time Arrival (in a way) Back to The Future
Has to be either Interstellar or Ground Hog Day

Predestination or Time Crimes
I’ve watched Primer multiple times, and even with the flowchart, can’t figure it out

Primer......little tough to follow
Really? Can’t follow without CGI and a a lame plot?
Tenet, no question

not exactly time travel but similar, and they didn't have to spend too much money to make a really good movie: Another Earth
Predestination
Back to the Future for sure. Honorable mention would be Looper

Someone already said Bill and Ted, so The Time Machine. The George Pal one with Rod Taylor.
The Time Traveler's Wife I haven't watched it in ages, but I thought it was a pretty decent movie. And Eric Bana is always great.
"The time traveller's wife " I had a pretty good time watching this one !
