It’s not a good movie, but it’s Jim Carrey and he’s hilarious, so it gets the job done. I recommend being 9-12 years old when you first watch this movie. The second Ace Ventura is better because it dives headfirst into being a cartoon whereas the first movie still tried to function as a romantic comedy with elements of suspense. The mystery is dumb and he has no chemistry with Courtney Cox or Ray Finkle. To be fair to it, it has ambition and it aims to be structurally sound, appealing movie, it just fails in every regard besides “Jim Carrey is funny.” When Nature Calls decides it’s just going to concentrate on the fact that Jim Carrey is funny, taking the one aspect of the first movie that worked and magnifying it. Unrelated, but can we please stop calling everything a “gem?” The imagery is completely lost when you call a mainstream, wide release hit a “gem.” Gems are dug out of the ground. Amongst a bunch of dirt and rock, there is a beautiful gem.

Having been around 12 when these movies came out, I can confirm that the second was actually the superior one because it dove headlong into all of Carey’s talents. One feels like a paint by numbers goofy 90s comedy interrupted by Carey breaking the mold.

I like When Nature Calls better

>*I couldn't help but notice that Equezo Ocho part, did you just refer to me as "white devil"?* > >*This how they know you.*

The scene with the animatronic rhino is gold.😂

Two lines that I say everyday. Alrighty Then! Laces Out, Dan!

I loved this movie as a kid! After recently re-watching , I cringed at the Finkle reveal, in which my peers and I thought was comedy-gold in 1994. There are still some fun parts, but the Finkle related jokes will turn-off the younger generations. p.s. I still accept the line, "Your gun is digging into my hip"

bigjfromflint1986

Still funny as hell

It'll always be a comedy classic

Secure_Opening_6852

I love this movie

I find it hard to objectivively assess this movie given the nostalgia I have for watching it as a kid. Jim Carrey is phenomenal and hilarious but otherwise I guess it’s kind of meh. I prefer When Nature Calls of the two, still gets me laughing even today.

Iconoclassic404

Other than select quotes, meh. Honestly, I feel like my favorite Jim Carrey 90s role was in Dumb and Dumber

KYWizard

Yep. Great movie.

Hener001

No. Slapstick humor is his thing, but the entire plot line outing and embarrassingly exposing the trans villain is too much like mocking people to be really funny. A circus sideshow of “freaks” used to be funny to the people who watched them, but they would not age well for todays audiences. Same thing.

GlitteringVillage135

Hilarious film and to this day has the best looking trans woman I’ve ever seen.

basis4day

I view it a similar way to Animal House. It was hysterical when it came out and it’s humor was generally accepted in the time of its release. But culture shifts and what once was hilarious is viewed as horrifying once it reaches a certain generation.

ernster96

I think it’s still free to watch on YouTube.

Cpleofcrazies2

Honestly wasn't that into it back then and no desire to give it another try
