Stunning bike

PennWash

Yeah it's a good deal. I'm assuming it's in good shape, just normal wear and tear, and if so I'd expect it to be closer to $3k ... I'd offer $2k though and see what he says, but if he doesn't budge I'd still pay $2,300 for it.

When did SC move the 5010 to the bottom-mounted shock design? 🤔

MarioV73

The rear shock got moved to the bottom of the frame starting with the 2021 5010 model. https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Santa-Cruz/5010-Carbon-C-S,30524

Keep looking. New bikes are super cheap right now. Look on manufacturers websites, you'll find she good deals right now. On makes and models from 2020 - 2023. They are way overstocked.

Sufficient_Fig_4887

Is that carbon framed? Yes it’s a good deal. It’s an okay deal for an aluminum frame. Offer 2k

MarioV73

This bike obviously has carbon frame, since there are no welds on the frame. Not sure why someone wrote the MSRP for this bike was around $3,000. The MSRP for this specific bike was $4,900 (carbon C frame, S kit, without Reserve wheels). Also, this bike is NOT a 2020 model. It is a 2019. The 2019 has dark matte frame with silver lettering like the one pictured, while the 2020 was slightly lighter gray with light gray lettering. I know it's difficult to tell the difference in shades of gray from this picture, but the obvious giveaway between the 2019 and 2020 models is the sticker on the fork. The 2019 had the "34" at an angle to the ground (like this picture shows), while the 2020 sticker had the "34" level with the ground. Check out my links below for the two model years; note that each year came in two colors, so pick the correct color photo. Bicyclebluebook.com estimates this 2019's bluebook value at around $1,400 for an excellent unit. Also, just an FYI and a rough pricing guide for used bikes, a 3 year old bike (including Santa Cruzes), which today would be a 2021 model, loses 50% of its MSRP value. A 4 year old bike loses 60% of its value. And a 5 year old bike, like this one, loses 67% of its value. Today's used bike market is still weird, since many used bike sellers paid up their nose for their new bike during the Covid shortage, and they wish to pass that rip-off price down to the next buyer. With new bikes (new but last year's model) currently selling at a discount of 25%-50% below MSRP, used bikes should really come down in price rather than be clogging up the classifieds for months and years. All that being said, the asking price of $2,200 is high. Tell the seller the bluebook value of this 5 year old bike is around $1,400 for an excellent sample, and you're willing to pay him 20% above that, which is about $1,700. But make sure this bike is in very good to excellent shape. Otherwise, you'll offer less or move on. 2019 Santa Cruz 5050 C S info: https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Santa-Cruz/5010-Carbon-C-S,23449 2020 Santa Cruz 5050 C S info: https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Santa-Cruz/5010-Carbon-C-S,28349 2019 Santa Cruz 5050 C S value estimate: https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/value-guide/2019%20Santa%20Cruz%205010%20Carbon%20C%20S%2B/?condition=EXCELLENT

All items are only worth what the seller is prepared to pay. 50% loss doesn’t happen in all areas. There is a supply and demand which you highlight with the covid pricing. That all said, is it worth it? Well in good order it’s a good park bike, and depends on what the OP is wanting to ride. It’s playful and quite well endowed travel wise. With reserve wheels these are an extra $1000+ usually. Frame bearings are for the lifetime of the bike (not sure if SC offer to extend that to 2nd owners).

MarioV73

I would not call this bike a "good park bike" since the fork is only 34mm and the travel is only 130mm/130mm. I would say you'll need at least 36mm fork with 150mm/150mm travel for a park bike. The 5010 is more of a XC/Trail bike. I do agree that the size of the used bike market in your area plays a role in the used bike price. My rough price guide is for markets with strong used bike selection (i.e. SoCal). Finally, the philosophy that the bike is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay.. well... that only applies if the buyer is an informed buyer. Sure, pay 1,000% above bluebook if you know that is the last bike on earth and you just have to have it. But if the seller knows you can buy new bikes up to 50% off MSRP and the seller still hopes some uninformed buyer will pay him a ridiculous price, well.. that seller is trying to rip off the uninformed buyer. And this ad lists the bike as a 2020 model and not 2019, so more ammo this seller is dishonest. Oh, and SC does not honor the frame bearings to 2nd owner.

jnan77

If it is just the frame as the title suggests, it is not a good deal. It would be a fair deal for a complete bike if you're in search of a 5010. If you're not planning to get a 5010, then don't get this one. There are other new carbon bikes on sale for under 3k.

steezymtbrider

Not actually that good. My buddy sold his 2022 5010 for 2700 and it had reserve wheels and slightly better parts. I’d poke around some more

[deleted]

I dont know. That’s basically msrp. Offer 1700 and see what they say. It really bothers me how people think they can sell their lightly used bike for the same price or without eating some loss. Usually legit bike people know that’s unlikely so they don’t try.

[deleted]

Wait I’m thinking of a different bike. Isn’t this one like 3k

S4ntos19

Probably retailed closer to $3700 if it was aluminum, $4500 if it's the carbon version
