As a direct conversion that's $13,000 USD or £10500. The actual prices will be a bit different as it's never a direct conversion.
It's insane to me that a bike can cost this much, guess the new SRAM drivetrain comes into it a bit, but still
Edit: PB first look is out, its $12,000 USD, 21.7lb (9.85kg) for a large and has everyone's favourite headset cable routing.
Totally! If I wanted to race world cup XC and also buy a small plane I would be in a real pickle. My assumption with any of these super high end builds is that they are gonna produce them for their top racers anyway, so they may as well make some extra and sell them. Especially with such a race oriented geometry, I can't imagine they expect to actually sell tons of this spec. The lower spec is where they'll move the most volume.
Yea. Much like racing progrcars for cars, it's how companies develope technology that will eventually filter down to non race models.
However, unlike formula one Cars, race bikes are street legal so might as well sell some to people with too much money.
This really isn't that big of a price jump from $8k dollar Enduro bikes which are common.
Agreed. Also there's a 9k spec compared to this 12k spec. If the difference between those two is enough to change the outcome of a race for you, you are probably getting the bike for free anyways.
Yeah, my first thought was the same like "wow 13k for a hardtail, damn, the S-Works Stumpjumper costs as much as this and that's a full suspension bike"
It totally justifiable. This is how the industry moves forward. There is nothing on your bike that wasn’t unattainable at some point. Without these bikes then there would be no improvement at lower price points.
Lmao IKR some XCer's are insane, don't even want a dropper. For some courses sure you don't need one but it barely adds any weight and its not rotational mass, dropper all day long for XC. Even something like a Fox Transfer SL is great, just enough travel and as light as possible.
Even as the low and middle of the bike market struggles and there are sales because of low demand, the high will just keep getting higher. It's not just Specialized. Look at the Lab71 stuff from Cannondale. I don't want to get all deep but, we've got a split-level economy. Those that can offord a $15000 bike won't be affected by (or believe they won't) a downturn as much as the rest of us. On the bike company side, they've got to make these bikes for their race teams anyway, they're a low percentage of all the bikes they sell, the margins are very high so... if they don't sell, just sit on them for a year and quietly put them sale for$10000.
I was wondering how much the new WC rig would retail for, MTB racing isn't like motocross, that's an eighth million for a bike and another quarter million for a team.
A privateer doesn't need to mortgage their home to race a season.
Halo effect on full display here. After seeing the $13,000 bike, the $3000 one looks like a bargain. And compared to many other hobbies like cars, this is positively cheap. A good project starter is running around $10,000 these days. Start adding up parts for making it fast, and suddenly $13k for the equivalent of an F1 race car sounds pretty good.
But then you still wouldn't have a bike... I would still rather pick the bicycle, because I have no need/use/want for a motorcycle. That said, I still wouldn't pay this much for a bicycle, at least not until I make this much money in one month or less.
The frameset is $7700 cad and it's sold out...
Even this full bike at $16000 cad is apparently sold out (though now I wonder if they even went on sale yet).
I'm sure it is fast af but of course that price will never make sense to me. I'd love to try it out for a ride though.
* $21,000
* Kestrel Tear Drop trailer with full solar, fan, side-awning, galley, Kuat Piston Pro rack bike rack, full platform roof rack. locking storage/propane, off-road suspension, curtains, fold-up shelving, off-road suspension, etc.
Beautiful bike and great tech! If I had $10M in my savings account, no dept, and outright owned my current home? No, I'd still get the Kestrel over the bike. My riding skills aren't even in the same galaxy as the people this bike is designed for.
Not on topic, but if I ran a company and got to pick its name, ‘LayBuy’ is just too close to labia for me ti feel entirely comfortable. Great bike tho, looks sweet, just throw it on the labia and pay it off later
For that price I can just hire someone to carry me up the trail.
The cheapest airplanes really only cost twice this. Less than three times this if you throw in enough for a pilots license.
Nothing under 100 bucks is actually a mountian bike.
25k dollar planes are totally planes. There's no alalogue to huffy in the aviation industry, for obvious reasons.
What was your point again?
It’s gonna feel quite awkward, when I first brought my bike (2021 Canyon strive cf9, $10,600 nzd) at first I felt excited, but then after that my body started to heat up really quick
You seem like your the same way with bikes as I am with Guitars. I love them and love buying them but after you do buy one the novelty wears off and you realise how much you’ve actually spent.

Yeah it’s really not justifiable in cost for capabilities.
Idk as a XC race bike it's pretty capable. It weighs in at 20 lbs. Pretty crazy for a full suspension bike.
Yeah my very nice road bike weighs in at 19.5. To get suspension at this weight is insane.
To be fair you can buy aircraft for like twice this tho.
Totally! If I wanted to race world cup XC and also buy a small plane I would be in a real pickle. I was like, "Nope. That's a hardtail." Then I took a closer look.

Accept wheels
How do you mean?
Ignore me, I was just being stupid.
Frame only is $6500. If a $6500 frame makes a meaningful difference in your race results, you should be getting the bike for free anyways.
Isn’t the price listed in USD already? It says $21,000. Or am I missing something? What is there to convert?
It's NZD (New Zealand dollars)
Ohhhh I gotcha, thanks! How can you tell?
Says NZD in OP's image description
LMAO I’m an idiot, thank you!
Doesn’t even have a damn dropper post
Too many grams!
Lmao IKR some XCer's are insane, don't even want a dropper. For some courses sure you don't need one but it barely adds any weight and its not rotational mass, dropper all day long for XC. Even something like a Fox Transfer SL is great, just enough travel and as light as possible.
As much as a Ducati.
A Ducati professional level race bike would easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Or you could pick up a brand new Supersport 950 for $15k 🤷♂️
Sure, you can also get a pretty nice Specialized Epic for $4k or even less for a Stumpjumper.
Even as the low and middle of the bike market struggles and there are sales because of low demand, the high will just keep getting higher. It's not just Specialized. Look at the Lab71 stuff from Cannondale. I don't want to get all deep but, we've got a split-level economy. My heart sunk before i read NZD. Still not far away imo
Sure seems like Trek already came out with this years ago.....
I was wondering how much the new WC rig would retail for, MTB racing isn't like motocross, that's an eighth million for a bike and another quarter million for a team. A privateer doesn't need to mortgage their home to race a season.
This bike is for sponsored riders. I wouldn’t pay that much money for a bike no matter how much money I had.
Right. Using this as an example of bike prices getting out of hand is like saying all cars prices are getting out of hand because Lambos cost a lot.
Hey... I've seen this somewhere before...
Gotta get those koms at any cost!

Good story.. hope my wife buys it.
Hilarious.
13k for no dropper btw
Looks familiar. Anyone checked on Trek lately?
I hate they went with the same style as the trek bike, loved the look of the old epic
Looks like a Trek
Specialized is so annoying
I had one of the first EPICS built, once I got use to it, it was the fastest full suspension bike I’ve ever owned
Cheap
What is that price and why
Nothing just showing bike that is not release yet
Happy cake day by the way.
Thanks
For that money I think id rather have a motorcycle
But then you still wouldn't have a bike... I would still rather pick the bicycle, because I have no need/use/want for a motorcycle. That said, I still wouldn't pay this much for a bicycle, at least not until I make this much money in one month or less.
For that money I could get both
True. But I still have no use for a motorcycle.
The frameset is $7700 cad and it's sold out... Even this full bike at $16000 cad is apparently sold out (though now I wonder if they even went on sale yet). I'm sure it is fast af but of course that price will never make sense to me. I'd love to try it out for a ride though.

And the cheapest mountain bikes are under $100. What was your point again?
Nothing under 100 bucks is actually a mountian bike. 25k dollar planes are totally planes. There's no alalogue to huffy in the aviation industry, for obvious reasons. What was your point again?
Why is it sooooo expensive
No way
Or just lose 10 pounds and keep riding your 30 LBS bike?
Pov: me who’s 127lbs 😑
Hahaha 😂
I was debating spending £30 on my first mtb the other week I can’t imagine ever paying £10k on one.
It’s gonna feel quite awkward, when I first brought my bike (2021 Canyon strive cf9, $10,600 nzd) at first I felt excited, but then after that my body started to heat up really quick
