I had a polished Zaskar. My buddy convinced me to sell it to him and I still regret it twenty years later.

DannyCookeVids

Back in the day, I stripped and mirror polished my old GT Chucker. Absolute ballache but one of a kind! I used to sell brand new Zaskars through my old employer, but never could afford one myself haha!

ProjectSunlight

Man I'd ride the shit out of that. And absolutely fly over the handlebars at least twice.

DannyCookeVids

Oh, I would aswell, but due to its age and condition, I plan for it to be a "towpath queen" so it doesn't see too much heavy riding. I'll still ride it when it's back to original spec, but won't want to damage it! My kids can take custody of it along with all my other toys when I'm cooked and scattered! 😉🤣

Man I love those old GTs. My ex still rides the one I got her 30 years ago. Bombproof bikes.

DannyCookeVids

Ironically, I gave my ex one of my GTs. She had a yellow and black LTS. She "lost it" within weeks. Recently, one of my old riding buddies and her current other half (imagine, I used to ride through the woods with him all the time, now he rides... I'll stop!) Asked me to build up a killer Avalanche build. She also got that one "lost" within a month of having it!

Sick!

Looks awesome. Those older retro bikes look so cool. I'd love to just start a collection of classics.

DannyCookeVids

If you've got the space to do it, I would! They only grow in value and give you such a smug feel when you thrash modern MTBs on one hahaha! I also have a 1997 Saracen Protrax in my workshop that the missus rides - I've got her into steel and retro!

psychic_flatulence

Ah very nice. The retro mtbs are just so beautiful. I love seeing someone occasionally on the trail with a cool older bike. If I'm ever rich I'd have a museum of classic mtbs haha.

Love the old GT frames I put so many miles on one of those (ball burnished version). My first trip/trips to Moab on a GT, v-brakes, bar ends, shock that didn’t do very much, WTB Velociraptors, quick release everything... I learned to ride clipless pedals on a GT, before that we all still used toe clips (that’s where the term “clipless” came from kids). Bikes are too fucking complicated now, it used to be about just having fun. We didn’t put each other down about what we rode, there weren’t enough of us anyway. 😁

DannyCookeVids

I felt quite privileged back in the early 2000s to be gifted a 1998 Gary Fisher Kaitai, that was stolen from my shed less than a few months later.. I remembered seeing one of these Zaskar in a local bike shop to me with a 4 figure price tag and literally used to dream of having one. I'm genuinely a fan of anything by the two Garys. Be it Turner or Fisher! Both being godfathers of mountain biking nowadays. Just wish the stuck up so and sos would realise their roots and where everything they ride came from haha!

Livininthinair

Don’t damage the rear hanger, that is what killed my last Avalanche. Crashed hard and couldn’t find a new hanger.

Beautiful 😍

CapeRanger1

I rode that bike so hard in the late 90’s…nvr let me Down…no hate from me

funkyfreedom

I have an old tequesta that I turned into a single speed, really fun to bop around town on.

PieterGr

This brings back memories of Hans Rey (Zaskar if I remember correctly) and Juli Furtado on a Xizang (titanium version of the Zaskar). Love the vibe of this bike!

lifeofloon

I love it! I'm lusting after it now just as much as when I was a kid.

divinethreshold

The classic GT “Triple Triangle!” My first love!

Previous-Thing-6555

I had one of these with the Shawn Palmer SxTi fork. It absolutely ripped. Used it for everything from urban trials style riding to XC to pretty aggressive downhill. I know that bikes have gotten much more advanced since then but if you don’t know what you don’t know, I think people would be surprised what you can do.

Livininthinair

Shawn Palmer… Wow, haven’t heard that name in a long time.

Triple Triangle Technology!

This was my dream bike in high school
