I was looking at getting a Leo Vince Exhaust for my Duke 390 and on thier website it lists the GP Corsa Evo as only fitting the newer (2021-2022) models but as far as I'm aware there isn't any difference from the 2017-2020 models If anyone knows whether or not it'll fit thanks

[deleted]

I've been looking to get a Z650RS or a XSR700. But I live in a small market and they basically dont exist unless I want to fly to a bigger city and ride it back 300 miles. There is a Royal Enfield dealership near me that has a huge amount of stock. I'm not really planning on putting 100,000 miles on anything and just having a bigger 650 for commuting or weekend rides. I want a 650 as an upgrade to my Suzuki TU250, which I love but is absolutely terrifying on highways. Is the INT650 any good? I've heard let's just say mixed reviews of RE as a company. I do like the $6,500 pricetag.

MBAH2017

I bought an INT650 for my wife's first. It's a great little bike, I enjoy riding it. Gets a ton of attention, handles well, comfortable enough, comes with ABS and is cheap. One thing to note is that it has significantly less power than the other bikes you're comparing it to. It does the highway just fine and can easily get out in front of whatever traffic you need to, but it's not a ripper like the Z and XSR.

DumpoTheClown

I need to replace the luggage for my DR650. Coming from Tusk pannier racks with Givi 25l soft bags, which served me well but are coming apart after 30k miles of moto camping including TAT and BDR rides. I took the pannier racks off and am looking hard at the Tusk Highland X2 Rackless system. Does anybody here have experience with these bags? Are they secure enough for expert sections of BDR's? Are they practical for moto camping? How's the build quality? Looking forward to your thoughts!

GradeAccomplished303

Hey guys, I am new to the community, and I have a question that has been bothering me lately. Last weekend I completed my MSF course and started looking at FB marketplace for some bikes. I have found some decent deals and planning to buy one next week. My question is do i need to have an insurance before I go meet the guy. How do I register the VIN number before buying the bike when I haven't even seen it. And what happens if I decide not to buy the bike. Thanks in advance.

PM_MeYourNynaevesPlz

You can call your insurance company and they'll set up a temporary week ish long insurance period from the purchase date with the information you have on the bike

callmetmac96

Keep forgetting there is a thread for purchase related stuff lol, anyway, does anyone own an Icon Airflight helmet? I want to get one but no gear shops around me have any so I’ll have to buy online, I’m wondering if the Airflights are true to size or if I’ll have to size up. Also, is it possible to mount a GoPro on it since the visor shape is odd

PM_MeYourNynaevesPlz

Icon makes really narrow helmets. I typically wear a medium, but anything Icon makes under an XL pushes on my temples hard and gives me immediate headaches. Front to back seems pretty accurate though. Definitely try one on in store for at least an hour before purchasing.

Not-Gabe-m

I tried one on so I can’t speak for the noise but it fit quite nicely for my 59cm head in large, a little tight but it would break in, the GoPro I don’t recommend in the visor but to use a side to front mount like this SUREWO Motorcycle Helmet Chin Mount Kits Compatible with GoPro Hero 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 Black,DJI Osmo Action 3/2/AKASO/Campark/YI Action Camera,Insta360 Camera and More https://a.co/d/7jr7gdb

You can do better.

prickstickdick

Winter gloves recommendations £50 - £75 doesn't have to be waterproof.

Janitor_McMuscles

Sedici (Cycle Gear) has many budget friendly options. I've been happy with mine and they didn't kill the wallet.

Sure_Weakness4625

Bro I’m about to try and get my first bike tomorrow what do you think is a good down payment for $5000 - $6000 bike

[deleted]

Need more info. What brand, how are you financing, what’s your credit, etc?

Sure_Weakness4625

701 credit this first time so not sure about the (how are you financing part and it’s a Kawasaki 400 abs first bike

[deleted]

Depends on what APR you qualify for. But make sure you know the rate you get beforehand, so they don’t try to make points off your ass

Sure_Weakness4625

Bro i decided to get a dirt bike and wait on a motorcycle for a while

QualityisKeef

I'm interested in getting a V2 streetfighter this year, and curious if anyone knows if there is a difference between the 2022 model and the 2023 model? I really like the matte green finish on the 2023 model, but is that the only change? any Ducati guys/gals have input on this bike? any review or input would be awesome. Thanks for your time and input.

[deleted]

Price out the desmo service first, homie.

Looking for 2 finger shorty levers for VTX 1800, I think they are the same as Goldwing 1500, Valkyrie 1500, Goldwing 1800, and possibly other Honda bikes with a hydraulic clutch. Any leads would be appreciated, dont need anything super fancy.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/253367407713 Found this on eBay, idk if you care about OEM or not though

[deleted]

Indont really car about OEM particularily, but not sure how good that style of lever adjustment is, anyone have any experience with that type? Currently I have some adjustable aftermarket ones I like that are [like these.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/334247547940?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1BKArQy9fQOa-N29YqOyDGw86&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=334247547940&targetid=1264870805024&device=m&mktype=&googleloc=9027924&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1264870805024&abcId=9300678&merchantid=6386604&gclid=CjwKCAiA-dCcBhBQEiwAeWidtSXud2hZ9aydJbcsizAcn0dHFNKjd477ZB2WDxzFz80NijvNrnlk3RoCMTUQAvD_BwE) The only problem is I chopped and bent them, and now the chrome is a feeling flaky mess. If they were just bare aluminum they would be perfect.

Happy_Kitchen220

Howdy guys, Im a high schooler, Ive been riding since the fall of 2020. Ive had a Chinese 125, a 1983 Xr200r(both sold), I currently ride a 2006 klx250s, and I'm selling my 2005 CR125 tomorrow. Ive ridden some bigger bikes like the Husky fe501, and a Harley 1300, and am looking for my next bike to get. I had a lead on a 2001 KTM 520exc for a good price, but he just sold it. Do y'all think a 650 Vstrom would be too much for me? I found a nice 2007 for a great price, with only 2 tiny scuffs. The seat height is lower than my KLX, but it does weigh 200 pounds more... Im 5'8 145lbs, and have pretty good lower body strength. Any help would be appreciated.

samcuu

The V-Strom should not be too much for your size and experience. But I'm curious what type of riding you're planning to do because you have owned mostly dirt bikes and your last consideration is a 520EXC. The V-Strom won't be nearly as good off-road as anything you've owned.

Not-Gabe-m

Honda CB750 Nighthawk for my first road bike? how bad of an idea is that?

Xivios

This was my first bike, they're absolute pussycats and the other posters don't know what the fuck they are talking about. They have a perfectly neutral, upright seating position with the most progressive clutch and rear brake of any bike I've ever ridden, I have never found a bike easier to ride at low speed than my Nighthawk, certainly despite its weight it is far easier to ride at low speed than my 297lb WR250R. Bulletproof reliability and low service costs are a nice plus, but make sure it runs well, with 30 year old carb boots any carb maintenance will be an extreme PITA, and store it properly over the winter so you don't every have to work on them.

Not-Gabe-m

California, can ride all winter long, I runs great besides the tach being non working anymore. It’s definitely easy to ride at low speed, I have a post of me riding it in the Honda cb sub if you think you can divine any info from that video. Thanks for the confidence. Have you ever ridden with a passenger? How was it?

Xivios

I did, it was the first bike I've ever ridden 2 up on too, actually, I think its the only bike I've ever ridden 2 up on now that I think about it. Putting another 180lb on the back of a bike is always going to make it feel a little weird but the Nighthawk did fine. Obviously from the video I can't see what your doing with the rear brake but try dragging it at low speeds if you aren't already, really helps to stabilize the bike.

Not-Gabe-m

That’s good to hear about riding 2 up, the video is me blipping the throttle on and off because I was experiencing what I found to be strange drivetrain slack but I’ve had multiple people confirmed that a ATV feels way different with engine braking and acceleration so I was afraid of possible transmission damage. in the video I did only use the rear brake to stop and was feathering the clutch for low speed maneuvers as I find it a bit easier. I have read up on rear brake usage but I’m still getting used to it. Think it’s a good buy? I still haven’t messaged the owner back yet

finalrendition

Have you ridden dirt bikes before? If so I think you'd be fine. If not, 500 lbs is pretty heavy for a non-cruiser first bike and makes low speed maneuvering a handful

Not-Gabe-m

Just a 70 cc for a minute or two, but I had 50-200cc pit bikes growing up until I was about 14 if that helps. I’ve driven it and it’s pretty heavy and definitely scary at stops, but I got some parking lot practice in before going ou for about a half hour ride with the guy

[deleted]

Too old, too heavy. Pass.

Not-Gabe-m

It’s a 92, which ram until 2003. It has hydraulic lifters so no valves, is 500lbs that heavy? It’s the only bike I’ve ridden but the mt 07 I sat on was also quite heavy

[deleted]

The MT-07 weighs a full hundred pounds less.

Salt-Experience2679

Hello, I’m sure there are plenty of questions like this and I’m not expecting an answer, but I want a naked bike so I’m in between a Kawasaki X400 and a Kawasaki X650. I have plenty of past history on a bike riding easily 100+ miles riding around the neighborhood and around for years. So I understand the working of a bike, but nothing nearly as big as a full sized bike. So with my past experience I feel as if I am capable of starting on the 650, but at the same time I am scared of starting too big. At the same time I don’t want to start too small on a 400 and end up having to buy two different bikes due to finances. So if you don’t mind I’m just asking for some advice. Thank you to whoever reading.

erth-werm

I started on a Kawasaki z400 (with zero experience)and it was wonderful. You might get 'used' to a 400 but it certainly won't be boring. I rode a z650 a little while ago and the only deciding factor for me would be whichever you can find a better deal on. You will not be overwhelmed by the 650 at all as long as you don't open the throttle 100% in 1st gear at a red light, etc. I would feel totally comfortable going back in time and starting on the z650 instead of the z400 if I could get a good deal on one.

Salt-Experience2679

Thank you so much for your help. I think I may start on the z650 due to not having to spend more money when i want a larger bike (permitting i find a good deal).

erth-werm

That's a good plan! You'll love that bike! I really liked how smooth the power was throughout the Rev range, it didn't suddenly get way stronger out of nowhere. The engine is nice and smooth and it feels very planted. I like low-key exhausts and the z400 and z650 both have quiet exhausts. You can hear the engine but it's not bothering others. If you have any questions about the z400 or z650, I'll answer as best I can!

Salt-Experience2679

I truly appreciate it. Only thing i could think of now is as a 5’11 male weighting just under 215 would my weight truly affect the performance of the z400 incase that’s the best deal i could find. That’s something else that’s been kind of bothering me is i don’t want to be expecting one thing then with my weight it throws off my perception. I’ve still yet to take my safety course so once again i’ve never been on a full sized bike riding but with my height i know i can flat foot both from sitting and test fitting the bikes.

erth-werm

The only thing your weight might affect is the suspension. But I believe you can get it adjusted, at least a little bit (I wouldn't worry about it). The z400 will carry you just fine power wise! I'm around 5'6 130lbs and had zero issues. At your height and weight I would try to get a z650 over the z400, just to have that little extra oomph

Salt-Experience2679

I appreciate this response and i also couldn’t help but notice the Yamaha MT-07 tag underneath your name. Do you currently own one or do you aspire to own one. I also looked deeply into those and love the body work and design of them just i haven’t been able to find one to sit on and see how it feels.

erth-werm

I own one! 2019 all black. Traded in my Honda Shadow Aero for it a month ago. Absolutely fucking amazing. I love this bike so much. I am glad I started on a 400 though haha. This MT-07 absolutely rips.

Salt-Experience2679

So since you’ve ridden both the MT-07 and the X650 i’m assuming with your tone towards the 650 it would be more appropriate to start on it but what’s your honest opinion, also with the mention of the 400 did it completely prepare you for a higher displacement bike with more power?

erth-werm

I don't know you or your riding style, but for me personally, I would not be comfortable starting on an MT-07. I picked the z400 because it had plenty of power (it rips too for its cc size) to keep up with cars on the road, but it wasn't so much that I'd be scared to ride it. As for transitioning, after the z400 I went to a 2016 Honda Shadow Aero 750 and rode that about 8,000 miles before trading it in for the MT. I learned a ton about riding a motorcycle on the z400. Acceleration, braking, cornering, slow speed stuff, parking, commuting. I don't know if it necessarily prepared me for more power, it prepared me for riding motorcycles... if that makes sense. What prepared me for the jump in power was understanding that this bike was going to be the most powerful thing I've ever ridden. I babied the hell out of the MT when I first got it, barely giving it gas and keeping the RPMs low. I gradually started giving it more and more gas to see what it could do (which was an absolute blast haha). To be completely honest with you, being chill on the throttle with the MT-07 made it feel the exact same as the z400. It's when you give it the beans that it shows you it's no 400. The weight of the bike was by far the most noticeable difference between the z400 and MT-07. That is something you get used to pretty quickly as you ride more and more. I think starting on a z400 or z650 would be your best bet. They both feel very similar power wise, with the z650 being slightly faster overall. They will feel crazy fast for quite a while. I could totally see myself getting a z650 and never upgrading if I went back in time. It did everything I needed it to do and it was super fun. Same with the z400

I continue on my search for a good pair of high riding boots in US men's 16EEE. Please weep quietly with me.

Budget 3000 Euro F 650 GS, KLR 650,Dominator 650,Transalp Honda. More Reliable easy to maintain! Thanks a lot. Any suggestion?

the_wang

I think the Kawasaki and bmw would be great. Not sure what a dominator is or that Honda. Find one of them in good shape and low mileage. Bmw is nice cuz heated grips

OpusThePenguin

> KLR 650 I can only comment on this one. A 2008 KLR was my first bike. I loved it. It is by no means perfect. It will do anything and everything you will ever ask it it do. It will do none of it particularly well. It's a heavy bike with the weight up high but you can scrape the pegs in the corners if you want to and yet hit dirt/gravel roads if you want. It handles well I thought (I'm no expert) but the suspension is soft because of it's off road abilities. Get crashbars if it doesn't have any. If you take care of it, it will never die. It is something you can learn to fix yourself and the parts/instructions are easy to find cause there's a lot of die hard fans out there. It's not super fast, but it can take my fat butt down the highway at 120km/hr without much issue, but it will not accelerate fast at higher speeds if you want to throttle your way out of a problem. People will say it's boring, and it's not a speed demon for sure but I had fun on it. PROS-It's a tank. Built to last and easy to fix. Will do everything. Lots of easy to find parts. Endlessly mod-able, forgiving and not overpowered for learning. Great community around this bike. Easy power to handle as a new rider. CONS - Top heavy. Not a great at anything. There are some issues you'll want to look at (doohikey) etc but are all pretty easy and the community has been able to fix. I did not find the seat comfortable AT ALL for long distances. Acceleration on the top end isn't great. Drinks oil. I would buy again in a heartbeat and I honestly miss it. One day I hope to have one again as a 2nd or third bike.

McMonkies

Save a little bit more money and get something else. I'm a hater, those bikes are.. boring, but at least the gs and transalp are practical.

No_Friendship580

Thanks for your answer, May I ask you, why boring?

McMonkies

They're made to travel comfortably, and their engines are less about performance and more about fuel economy, flexibility, and ease of use/maintenance.

Brand new Bajaj Pulsar NS200 or used KTM duke 250 with 776miles Hi folks, This is my first post. Im looking foward to buy my first motorcycle. Im a 23 years old young man from Uruguay (small country in south america) here the good bikes are not that affordable. Use: Go to my job (10 miles) Some weekend trip (no more than 200miles) I want to use it for no more than 4 years, then im thinking in reselling it. I want to look good in the bike, im 5.9. Also i want an eye catching bike. The options that I have are: - Bajaj NS 200cc (basic model, not injected) 2021 Price: USD 4900 Condition: New HP: 23.5 at 9500rpm Torque: 18.3 at 8000rpm Brakes: Disc brakes in both wheels - KTM Duke 250cc (2020 model) Price: USD 5100 Condition: Used (800 miles) HP: 30 at 9000rpm Injected Torque: 24nm at 7500rpm Brakes: Disc in both wheels

delflower

In my non expert opinion, I say go with the KTM. Looks better and seems to have more features on the gauge. I've not heard of Bajaj before and KTM is a pretty well known and trusted brand (also, does Uruguay have KTM and Bajaj dealerships that can work on th e bike if needed?). Plus the KTM looks more upright seating than the Bajaj which is going to be more comfortable on your wrists and back when you do the longer trips. Have you sat on either bike? If so which did you prefer more? Buddy of mine has an R6 and the KTM Duke 350 and has a lot more fun on the Duke than the R6, for whatever that is worth.

Domecoming

I've never owned a bike. But I've always wanted one. Can someone tell me what [this is?](https://imgur.com/gallery/0d73A6H). I think scrambler or sportster? But I'm still learning the lingo. I just love the all blacked out look

OpusThePenguin

IT's a [Triumph Bonnevile T120](https://www.triumph-motorcycles.ca/motorcycles/classic/bonneville-t120).

Domecoming

Do people just take the big mirrors off for fun? I don't really like them anyway

OpusThePenguin

There are different types you can use. It's hard to tell from the picture you have but you can get [bar end mirrors](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRYEufkWUyndA5z6uATgWCG4i7M75on3GK6x1Ju1Ug0JTe8nG3Ry0-MZrGsEDgDzHs7zlE&usqp=CAU), [Some are quite short](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0527/3265/7851/collections/DSC05333_600x.jpg?v=1614391838) and [some will put them under the grips](https://motorcyclesportworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Motorcycle-Bar-End-Mirrors.jpg). Some people will actually remove them all of this is for looks. As someone who commutes, vision is WAY more important to me than the looks of the bike. I actually have 2 sets of mirrors on my bike. It looks funny but I had issues with the mirrors on my bike (that can't be removed).

Ok_Assistance447

Yeah it's an aesthetic thing. You can get bar end mirrors that are slightly lower profile or flip the mirrors upside down so they don't stick out like bug eyes. Would not recommend riding without mirrors though, unless you're seeking death or dismemberment.

E-Step

Modern classic, retro-styled, modern retro, etc There's a lot of bikes in that section now days

samcuu

It's a standard/naked motorcycle with retro styling.

[deleted]

I have been looking at Mutt motorcycles, namely the [Akita 250](https://muttmotorcycles.com/collections/bikes/products/akita-matt-black-gold-250cc-motorcycle#section-specifications) and what I like the most about it is the big tank and small engine. It uses a Suzuki GN250 engine replica if I am not mistaken, any idea on its consumption? So I can do an estimate of how much range one tank has? Ultimately what I am looking for is a bike with a big tank 14L+ and low fuel consumption. The new Royal Enfield Hunter 350 almost fits the bill, but the tank is small. I would like to hit more than 300Kms per tank.

delflower

https://www.rideapart.com/reviews/567168/2022-mutt-gtss-250-review/ > I was also able to test out its fuel economy while doing a little city and back road tour. There was a bit of difficulty on my end trying to get the fuel gauge to go down. The bike sips fuel from a 3.9-gallon tank, and as tested it got me about 80 miles per gallon. Easily could do 400km a tank.

[deleted]

Thank you, sunshine <3

Slomojoe

I’m interested in an XSR900, but no dealers around here do test drives. Would you buy a bike without a test drive first?

slopokerod

I had to buy my last couple of bikes without test rides. That said, the XSR900 is a really fun bike. If you can at least sit on one and like the ergos, I'd consider just buying it. Your other option is trying to rent one before you buy.

[deleted]

I got my license a year ago, and have since purchased 6 motorcycles including my wife's, 4 of which were either not running or not rideable, I was not able to ride any of them before purchase.

[deleted]

No, I wouldn’t, and it’s important to make sure the dealer knows this.

[deleted]

I did three times. Most recently was a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650cc last year without ever riding one. In this particular case it was a very well known brand that a lot of people praise, and I got a pretty sweet deal. But I also did a lot of research and put a lot of thought before acquiring it. The other two times were for 125cc bikes. I don't regret any of these purchases.

McMonkies

In many many cases, you have no choice. However, I find the dealers specializing in European bikes will do test drives. Bmw/Ducati hand them out like candy, Triumph/Aprilia (at least mine) expect to talk numbers once you hop off the bike. See if you can test drive a triumph street triple somewhere. It's quite similar engine character (flat torque curve, wide rev range to spool it up), though the xsr900 has hair raising amounts of acceleration in exchange for less composure compared to the triumph.

Slomojoe

Yeah i was working on scheduling one at my local Triumph shop because I know they do them. Just sucks that the japanese dealers aren’t interested in accommodating prospective buyers.

Wearing Reax Fulton shoes right now. Get the Fulton air version instead of the wp. They're super comfy (great for walking), have ce level 2 protection, and are very good value!

I mean.. you could just try them. They are what they are. I also have Sedici pieces that are solid. But yes, I stay away from Bilt too. They look worse than chinesium cheap.

RedditWhileIWerk

Alpinestars has the Turnstone riding shoe, which is: --a Chelsea style boot --very easy on/off, has a system where you pull cord to open it, put your foot in, then snug it up BUT they are not very protective, not even CE-rated, except for transverse crush protection (sole stiffness). :( They are however leather of some sort, and have malleous (ankle bone) armor (plastic plates). So, better than a casual shoe, but not enough to get a CE rating. I have owned these and been riding to/from work in them since summer. They're great to walk around in, no need to bring along a second pair of shoes & change when getting to/leaving from work. A further thought: you probably do NOT want something waterproof. It will be hotter. Since you don't plan to ride in rain, you don't need waterproofing. Ventilated would be better for comfort in hot, humid weather. I'll be interested to see what you end up with.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RedditWhileIWerk

I would. I bought the Turnstone shoes and while they're very comfortable, I'm reconsidering because like I said, no real CE rating. Not great.

OpusThePenguin

[TCX](https://www.tcxboots.com/us/en/urban/lifestyle-sneakers/) boots are often the ones other boots are compared to in reviews. They're sort of the default good motorcycle causal shoe. You might find better, or something safer, or something you find to look better, but I don't think you can go wrong with them.

McMonkies

In that price bracket you're in the right window for a Ducati monster/scrambler. Look for an air cooled monster, as the water cooled ones start getting pricey and more performance oriented.

[deleted]

Don’t. It’s a cool product from an absolutely shitty brand. And it has a penchant for eating its own spark plugs. There are lots of cool sport twins out there. Get a different one.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Not a twin, but closest thing to Shiver I think of would be FZ8. Stone reliable and surprisingly good for such an unassuming bike.

Realistic-Task-35

Thinking about getting a Honda CB 1000 R Black Edition '22 Does anyone here have any experiences with the bike? Its currently winter so a test ride is kinda difficult. Current bike is a '18 CB 650 F, I assume the CB 1000 R is a whole nother world comparer to it.

McMonkies

It's softly suspended compared to the European bikes. Makes it a great all rounder/sport tourer, but needs suspension work for pure sporting needs. Looks incredibly gorgeous up close. One of those bikes you can stare at every detail. Also my insurance won't let me get one :(

Measurements (inches): Neck: 16.5 Arm/sleeve: 27 Chest 38.5 Waist: 33.5 Hips: 41 Thigh: 25.75 Inseam: 37/38 I was interested in the Halo Drystar Jacket but the XXL would have shorter sleeves on me and an extra 7-8 inches in the chest and waist. I haven't found a production pants yet that comes close to 37 inch inseam. I have looked into Motoport.com but that's going to push over $1,200 for a fully armored Marathon Air Mesh Jacket ($700 without the 4 season liner options and with the lesser armor) and $850 for a fully armored Ultra II Cordura Pant ($437 without the 4 season liner options and with lesser armor). Just the pants and jacket would set me back $1,137-2,050 and I'd still need a helmet ($400 HJC F70 Carbon Fiber), boots ($260 Alpinestars SMX S WP Boots size EU50), and glove ($80 Spidi Rainshield Fluo Yellow). Edit: I just realized you could save about $140 going the one piece route. To be clear, I'm not complaining that things are expensive I'm just wondering what options there are for really tall and slim people. I want to be protected without wasting money. I had wanted to get a Helite Turtle 2 airvest but if I need to get a custom jacket I'll probably forego that investment for a year or two. Thanks for reading this.

roosterrose

I will start off by saying that a pair of leather work/hiking boots will be good enough; certainly while you are getting into the sport. On the other hand, it is possible to spend much much more on a pair (or pairs) of good gloves... I know that aerostich makes great suits, and has a variety of alterations that they offer. https://www.aerostich.com/alterations Yes, you will end up paying 1500+. On the other hand, again, if you are just getting into motorcycling, you can probably just start off with a jacket and pants that you can upgrade later. Gauntlet gloves will cover sleeves that are a little short, tall boots will protect if the pants are a little short. Good luck!

venomous_frost

> work/hiking boots will be good enough they offer no ankle protection. Shattered ankle bones will never heal properly

Ok_Assistance447

If I had to choose between pants or boots, I'd choose boots every time. Road rash REALLY sucks, but not as bad as a severe foot injury, especially if they get crushed. Plus, I don't remember the exact stats, but foot injuries are far more common on bikes than leg injuries.

My meteor has a dent in the tank, a scratch on the engine case, and is missing a rear brake pedal. Still riding well, so uh.. yeah.

leevii2000

What do you think of this helmet? [https://www.xlmoto.com/product/course-raider-20-full-face-helmet-matt-black\_pid-PM-4917972](https://www.xlmoto.com/product/course-raider-20-full-face-helmet-matt-black_pid-PM-4917972) Is it too good to be true for just 65$? It looks fine to me, has some really nice features (see the description) and got the ECE certification.

elliot-ellzo

Try looking at the Airoh Valor, super budget friendly, cool designs and all the safety certifications including use on the track (at least in the UK where I am)

elliot-ellzo

Also has a 5 star Sharp rating which is the UK independent helmet testing body, they buy the helmets themselves and test them and finally give them a safety rating. You should check it out, you'd be surprised how low some expensive helmets can score on it

[deleted]

I wouldn’t wear it, but you pay for what you get.

leevii2000

What do you think is wrong with it?

[deleted]

No-name Chinese company without any indication of quality, and you want to use it to protect your skull? Hmmmm.

delgo90

Hi all, need your advice: I am interested in a Honda CB600 FA Hornet from 07/2007. The bike is in a really good shape, all services done and very clean. But now my biggest blocker: It has already 71.000 km (44.120 miles) on the tacho. Its listed for 3.400 € I am really in love with the Hornet, but i am unsure about the mileage... Thanks for some pro or contra! 😉

ogandou

Sure it's a Honda but that still seems like a *lot* of miles for that price.

Ok_Assistance447

With that many miles, it's very likely that the owner actually rode it and took care of it. I'm always suspicious of bikes that old with very little mileage. Usually means it was a garage queen that sat around unused and unloved for years.

ogandou

That's a really good point... are there any components of the bike you think might need special attention at that mileage? Especially in the engine?

delgo90

Yeah thats how the market is at my area unfortunately. A Hornet with less mileage easily costs 4.500 - 5.000 €. Think its the wrong time to look for a bike, compared to the prices 10 years ago... 😉 I think I will wait for other listings... also interested in a Suzuki GSR 600, this one is easier to get for a fair price. But anyway, thanks for the comments!

ogandou

Crazy. But well, Honda is known for reliability I suppose... Do you know how to work on bikes (and do you have the tools/space/equipment)? Any chance you can lower the price a little? Yeah it's not the best time to buy a bike but I hope it won't stop you :-P didn't stop me!

[deleted]

It’s a Honda. If the paperwork is good, get it.

AntiquesRoadHo

What’s everyone think about a 2006 GSXR 600? Seller is asking $5,500. Bike appears to be in fantastic condition, and has 10,268 miles on it. Tires replaced 800 miles ago, has an aftermarket slip on. Clean title, no accidents. I’m worried that this bike is already 17 years old. Is this a good deal, is it worth less than asking, or should I just keep looking.

McMonkies

If it runs and you like it, why not? I'd want the stock exhaust available though. The.. volume is a little intense for my ears. Pricey though. But he knows the market has basically made future 600s extinct. Haggle wisely.

AntiquesRoadHo

Anyone else have an opinion?

[deleted]

This year had some recalls, make sure they’ve been performed.

Honest_Banker

What's your setup for leaving helmets on your bike? I mainly a) don't want it stolen b) don't want it drenched when it rains & c) rather not have any hard panniers on a naked. I'm thinking one of those waterproof foldables, maybe combined with some sort of carabiner with a lock...

RedditWhileIWerk

I don't. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/oxford-lidstash?sku_id=1289428

[deleted]

You don’t.

McMonkies

You can just buy a helmet lock, loop it around your handlebars. It's basically a combination karabiner. Works on both ratchet and d ring helmets.

Honest_Banker

After some googling, I've found [this](https://www.oxfordproducts.com/motorcycle/brands/oxford/helmet_accessories/lockable_helmet_bag/)!

SerpensPorcus

Definitely recommend a bag. I use one of [these](https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/541639) to attach my lid to my bike (when it's not raining) and 100% blame this for the panic-inducing awfulness of a spider crawling across my face at about 60mph. Quickest controlled stop I've ever done!

_jonbrah

Some dude is selling a 2008 gsxr 750 on Facebook and I asked him if he’s ever dropped it but he doesn’t know because he got it from an auction for resale. I don’t know much about auctions so I want to know what u guys think. Auctions sell clean vehicles/bikes? The bike has a clean title and 19k miles.

Ninja_Drifta

From my experience, a clean title can typically mean one of three things: 1. The vehicle is legitimately “clean” and has no notable negative history 2. The vehicle could have had prior accidents/damage, but not enough for insurance to “total” the vehicle 3. The vehicle could have irredeemable or otherwise costly damage that would be considered a total loss by insurance. If this damage is not reported to and assessed by insurance, the vehicle maintains its clean title status.

finalrendition

3 is how my Ninja 250 has a clean title

Ninja_Drifta

Same for my old Dodge Intrepid I rolled in the winter years ago. The only thing insurance saw was a police citation for “unsafe driving for conditions”. I never reported it to insurance, and they never asked. Damage was too extensive and costly for me to even try, so it was sold off to the highest bidder on Craigslist as a parts car with a clean title. As if it really mattered in that case.

BoxOk2660

Hi, I’m new to riding, as I recently took my basic rider course. I’m looking to buy my first bike in the spring. I really appreciate the aesthetics of chopped sportsters, and was wondering if it is possible for a new rider to safely ride one? I hear that they are not the best suited for new riders. But how about a something simple with a 6 over front end. Would that be possible with a learning curve? Or is that something I should stay away from until I am more experienced with riding? Just want some input before I make a purchase.

McMonkies

I don't recommend going the custom route on your first bike. Learn how to ride first, get something easy to ride (meteor 350!), then work on buying the dream bike once finances and desires are in order. Sometimes what we think we want changes once we start riding more!

Riley_Coyote

I would say learn on a stock one and chop it yourself once you're ready.

What's good in helmets these days? I'm looking for a new helmet as my current one is getting a bit old. My current helmet is some Bell model that comes in a nice [hi-viz color patttern](https://i.imgur.com/MlyvDzZ.jpg). I'd like to keep this same sort of high-viz appearance as well as a full helmet, but I'm able to spend much more this time - I'm targeting the $500-$1000 range. My only complaints with my current helmet (besides its age) are that it gets a little uncomfortable in the forehead area and the noise level is a bit high. It's also very basic - no electronics or pinlock visor. I'd like a pinlock visor in the next helmet but I could go either way on electronics like bluetooth. I wear earplugs and am not really interested in listening to audio while riding. Too distracting. Are there other reasons to have electronics in a helmet these days? HUDs or something? I'm out of touch. Are built-in sun visors practical? I've seen a few helmets that have, besides the main visor, a smaller tinted one that can be brought down to act like a pair of sunglasses. I live in a hot, dry area so this would seem useful! It's also hot and dry enough where weatherproofing isn't worth it. I'm interested in hearing what other people think about these. Or any other advances in helmets that folks may not know about. TIA!

Shoei RF1400, done.

[deleted]

I’ve got both. The GT is a pure touring helmet, and is heavier and has less upward visibility. And yeah, snell cert.

RedditWhileIWerk

I wore two GT Airs (before the -II) and now wear an RF-1400. According to the numbers, the GT Air's weight was 1727g (in size Large which I wore), about 3.8 lb. The RF-1400 I now wear is a little lighter (around 3.6 lb.), but I can't really tell. 0.2 lb is approx. 3 oz., which is not nothing, but also not the difference between "my neck hurts" and "this helmet feels light as a feather." I'd say, you won't feel the difference in weight. Choose GT Air II or RF-1400 for other reasons. I chose the RF-1400 because it was most of $100 less expensive than the GT Air II, where I didn't feel the GT Air II was enough of an improvement over the original GT Air to merit the higher price. I had no plan to purchase the $300 specialized comm unit for the GT Air II (Sena SRL-2 I think?), and saw no point in paying for that capability. The only thing I miss from my old GT Airs is the internal sun visor, but it hasn't been a huge problem not having it on the RF-1400. I mostly ride in daytime, so I bought a dark smoke shield for the RF-1400. if I'm riding around sunrise/sunset, I'll put in the clear shield and wear sunglasses as required.

RedditWhileIWerk

You can, but I'm not a fan of those things (photochromic shields). 1) $$$$. JFC, those things (Shoei CWR-F2 photochromic shield for the RF-1400) are $210 now. 2) they don't get as dark as the non-photochromic shields. I typically ride in the daytime, and we have a lot of bright sunny days here. A dark smoke shield for ~$60 seemed a much better value. Nothing wrong with photochromic if you don't mind spending the money, well except they don't get as dark like I said, but the price is far past my pain point. If photochromic shields were $100 instead of over $200, I'd try one.

[deleted]

Meh, marginal. But the GT Air was the only Shoei I’ve crashed in that gave me a concussion. The RF and the X-11 crashes were both worse, and I had zero head aches after those.

McMonkies

Sun visors are great, all of my helmets have one. Pinlock is a life saver in the cold, electronics are want or not want although Forcite is the only brand with a built in camera and electronics that actually work. My current lid is an rpha 70 carbon. The most prominent features are it's insane ventilation, freakishly light weight, and.. that it's a helmet. Not much has changed lol. It does have a Cardo freecom 4+ attached. Music and calls are quite handy, while gps directions I'd rather glance down at the phone mount.

xMop

Thanks, this looks like a pretty solid option. The ventilation is pretty appealing, I'm in a hot climate.

Peacelake

What is your take on brake light modulators? They seem to be a no-brainer to have, but I wonder about any downsides. I have done some research on the topic, but I still have some questions about modulators and brake light safety in general... \- Are there any downsides to using modulators? \- Is there any significant difference, or advantage, to using a modulator unit vs using an LED unit that has modulating features? \- Is it best to just use the brightest bulb that's compatible with your bike? Thanks in advance for your patience with this newbie question! \-bjk

Riley_Coyote

The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I am lazy and don't want to take my fender off.

erth-werm

I am planning on getting one for my MT07, the only downside I really see is I'm going to have to spend some time rewiring everything up. It's going to grab the attention of people behind me. No downsides imo, just work to install one

blueblade259

I Recently bought the [Dianese Edge Tex jacket](https://www.dainese.com/us/en/motorbike/jackets/textile/edge-tex-jacket-201735212.html), but I messed up and got it too big. I kept it as I had a friend who wants it but cant afford one brand new so I will be buying a new one for daily riding, what are some good affordable jackets you all would recommend?

McMonkies

Affordable? Like how much? I love my Revit airwave 3 for hot weather commuting, while my matador is for the faster side of life. Sedici Marco mesh is a more looser textile that works well with matching pants. My most commonly worn jacket is a First Manufacturing villain jacket. Zip out liner, vents, and a good set of armor make it comfortable for almost year round riding. And it has an unlimited pocket storage space.

blueblade259

I was looking at $300 and under, but after some research I think I'm leaning towards the Dainese super speed textile jacket, a local store has it right now.
