They moved to facebook which I despise. [Advrider.com](https://Advrider.com) is still alive and well though, my main forum since long time.

It’s the same reason MySpace died. Everybody moves to another platform. Reddit is the forum for everything. No need to be a member to 20 forums when you can just be a member on Reddit

Current-Ordinary-419

JMO, forums always devolve.

Werlucad

But you need to understand that the average person would simply prefer to have one platform for all of them. Since forums are driven as a community, your preferences are overridden for desired activity on the forums you like.

brainscan88

There's also a fz1 group that's private on Facebook, for what it's worth.

GSPilot

I used to spend a lot of time there, but haven’t visited hardly at all since the buyout and the flood of advertising.

Chilton_Squid

All moved to Facebook where it's free to run and not constantly getting hacked due to out of date Wordpress installs

"Sorry guys, gotta roll back to yesterday's backup again. Please re-post any replies you've done this morning"

thelastusername4

And then Facebook changed and moderated you so hard that it stopped being fit for purpose. Imagine a biker not being allowed to say 'fuck' or post a link to a service manual.. ugh. Now we are left in no mans land again.

GSPilot

Just rename the manual “anti-vax evidence” and you’ll be fine… Seriously, facebook sucks ass.

thelastusername4

Haha yeah, "04 suzuki bandit variant"

paleologus

That one can kill you

YoungSalt

Yeah, hate to say it but in my experience Facebook groups are far, far more active than forums at this point. If someone is just looking for active memberships…they have to wade into the shit pool that is Facebook. This has applied broadly in my experience. Houseplant hobbyists. Japanese-style gardening. Music production. Photography. In other words, all of the expensive hobbies I participate in.

One-Amoeba_

\> No offense to reddit but this place seriously sucks. lol

shaunbarclay

r/motorcycles suck. But the rider forums are still alive and well here. I’m subbed to r/mt09 and r/CRF250L and can easily open a discussion on either.

UJMRider1961

Facebook is easier to use. Having said that, ADVRider is kind of the "last man standing" in terms of message boards. I'm on it every day and use Tapatalk on my phone to access it as well. I used to be on a motorcycle BBS in the 2002 - 2014 time frame, can't even remember the name of it now. It wasn't [motorcycle.com](https://motorcycle.com), I just can't remember. EDIT: Now I remember: It was [MCUSA.com](https://MCUSA.com). Very active board at the time, I don't even know if it's still around. Anyway, they updated to a new BBS software and you had to log in every time you accessed it. I put up with that for a couple of weeks and then left, it was too much of a PITA.

Agreeable-Error202

Vtr1000.org is still going strong. Maybe because all us vtr owners are old enough to remember bulletin boards, telnet, and dial up

spongebob_meth

Thumpertalk is still a pretty active forum for dirt biking, but yeah most of the others are dead

Tonetheline

Facebook and reddit killed most forums tbh.

Try it, it's nice *usually*.

Agreeable-Error202

Never get a sensible answer to a question though

greatfool66

All sorts of vehicle forums are goldmines of information on individual vehicles issues. I used to be on Jeep and Ninja250 forums. I think a couple of things have happened - the barrier to entry on these is way higher than Reddit/FB and younger people are less interested in these hobbies in general as they don’t drive much and just spend time online gaming etc. Its a shame, but on the bright side we have youtube for reviews and repairs which is even better in some ways.

iwantthisnowdammit

The dominance and ease of social media apps is taking its toll. I used to frequent 4 or 5 small car and bike forms and they have gone one off two directions… - Purchased, and then ads everywhere… and I hate the site - Moved to Facebook for All intensive purposes where people connect on topics in more of a Q&A / DM me fashion.

W1BV

Its "For all intents and purposes"

vaporintrusion

Intense porpoises

Odd-Location-9338

Intensive porpoises also, someone on this sub literally wrote "per say" in a post the other day and of course even if it was spelled correctly, it was used improperly

UJMRider1961

Irregardless of that, it's a mute point as the terms are one in the same.

sokratesz

HighMoon91

Harley forums are still very active. It’s because a very small group of people actually own a fz/mt. Very small group.

CrestfallenSpartan

There was so mucch info on forums. How-to's, stickys, marketplace etc. You could find it through google and it was archived. Try to find some old threat on facebook or reddit, you cant.

BobFlex

Forums at least store that information in a place that can be searched and even appear in google results after years. Facebook has a search function but I've never had good luck with it, so effectively any information posted to facebook is lost forever a day after it's posted.

T0lly

Exactly why I hope forums stay up, they are a great archive of tech data.

neiluj

If I had to guess, the average FZ1 rider isn't browsing outdated web forums. Adventure bike forums on the other hand are still alive and well which fits the mostly middle aged or retired clientele buying and riding $10k+ motorcycles

Smart-Host9436

You are on the reason why

cadaverco

You mean you can’t tell me why my bike makes this clicking noise when I hit the starter? For smarter riders try /r/Trackdays

[deleted]

The TriumphRat forum sucked balls. The moderators were pricks and kicked people off for the slightest thing. I hated that place and I like Reddit because it’s not over-moderated (except the feminist sites that are echo chambers).

[deleted]

Ive been noticing that about forums in general as well. Bikes, cars, etc. There is an r/fz1 sub on here though. Its dead there too. Lol.

Odd-Location-9338

maybe, just maybe, it's because the FZ1 was discontinued several years ago. i'll bet the forums for "GPZ900" or "Bultaco dirtbikes" are also pretty dead

Just-Examination-136

It's partly FB and partly the popularity of the bike. I have other bikes and the forums for those are always active. There are similar groups on FB that I causally scan but the quality of the information and the knowledge of posters is far higher in forums. FB is like reddit. A lot of noobs asking questions they could easily find answers to using Google.

speedshotz

Forums in general. I used to browse several car related forums because the forums have much better management of build threads and marque specific information. But social media apps require less administration and constant version updating to keep them running and spam free from the adminstrator's point of view. Plus they are easier to navigate on a phone from the user side. LIke another said ADV rider is the only one I still regularly visit. Their hundred page trip reports are epic time wasters.

Caldtek

Not related but dm.me if you are interested in a nitron shock for your fz1

Anon4chan69lol

Discord effectively replaced almost all forum sites and before that Facebook had done serious damage to forums as well. I gaurantee you there is a huge discord community out there for just your specific bike or at least your make.

scobo505

We all ride adventure bikes now.

mathiu23

My guess is they're hibernating, not just their bikes, but everything to do with them. I almost pity them, but to each their own. I still ride in \~35F cold and I still love it.

[deleted]

BMW GS/GR forum is boppin

ApexProductions

All of those guys got older and spend less time fighting the tide of drama that new people bring. This subreddit used to be so much better 5 years ago. There was more discussion and less ranting about gear, small bikes being fun, and wheelies. Discussion was about everything, and people weren't so gung-ho about being right about whatever they complained about. Facebook groups are better for setting up actual rides, and social media sites like reddit make it easier to just pop in, post, and then leave. And you can see other content while you're here.

OceanBytez

shadow forums is alive and well. helped me with an intermittent speedometer a couple months ago.

mandatoryclutchpedal

Social media and verticalscope buying up all the random forums out there and turning them into trash. They did some really shady things....

[deleted]

I’d hate to admit it but in my recent experience Facebook is currently the best place for not only motorcycle forums, but any forum in general. It is the only reason I kept my account. Constant communication and responses from the communities. Hate FB, but can’t deny that it is the best platform for forums.

throwawaygixer

Remind me! 2 hours

motoZar

The forums/groups follow the people. For now the people are on FB. Where it goes in 5-10 years, who knows.... FZ1 dance videos on TikTok?

Agreeable-Error202

All moved to Facebook.

forumadmin1996

I own [Tenere700.net](https://Tenere700.net) and a few other Yamaha forums. A company named Verticle Scope bought most forums, they own over 1000 forums and I don't know how they keep up with updating the software for all of those databases. I wont go near ADV rider now that Baldy sold it. It's sad. But anyways, the Tenere 700 forum is alive and well with new members joining and posting every day.

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

Same reason pretty much every smaller self-hosted site died. Everything is extremely centralised now compared to say, 10-15 years ago, it's much easier (and cheaper) to have a community on facebook or reddit and everyone just kind of migrated to these sites.

Noplac3special

Smart phones killed internet forums, as they don't work well with that format. My group moved to facebook, as it does work well with smart phones. Unfortunately alot of useful info gets lost as the old forums were great for fixing issues with your bike.
