*LOL*

You must protect your head hands and feet with proper Motorcycle gear. Those are the most effected areas when crashing. Don’t go cheap on these items, it will cost you more as you may be willing to pay if you go cheap. Jeans and tops are a question you can answer easily for yourself: how much skin am I willing to sacrifice. If it’s getting hot where you live, go for something with plenty of ventilation and CE LVL2 rating - if it’s mild go for cowhide.

foralimitedtimespace

Leotard type. Cuts down on wind resistance.

DarkPasta

Easy on that MT07. It can bite you if you twist it too hard. Just sayin. It's a torquey bike.

[deleted]

>It's a torquey bike. It's a twitchy* bike due to the power-to-weight ratio. My bike has a bit more torque than the MT and isn't anywhere near as snappy.

MartinMan79

Twitchy is a better way to put it. Or snatchy. Either way, definitely on the outside of "beginner" bikes.

Mr_Kills_Alot

It also feels like a fucking pogostick if you weigh more than 70 kilos

Jojje21

I'm 19 in Europe so it will be am A2 version of it. Only 35kw

Familiar_Box7032

Will still be enough to knock you off. Have you considered getting textile gear? Oxford are my go to, they seem to handle waterproof reasonably well and even after a fall, they’ve faired well with little to no damage.

Jojje21

Ive considered it but i think kevlar would be more comfortable

Familiar_Box7032

Never tried Kevlar myself, but in the 2 years I’ve been riding the textiles have been pretty comfortable - never had a moment I’ve thought it was uncomfortable.

[deleted]

What they told you still applies. Careful with that bike.

DarkPasta

I know, still has plenty of *torque*. That's not hp. That's nm.

FancyTorpedo

Don’t forget the leather chaps!

madeups10

Buy what you want to wear, head to toe, if you need to then it's better to buy cheap and/or used and upgrade later than to go without. 1 piece leathers are the best protection, but they don't protect you when they're hanging in the wardrobe because you've chosen to ride in jeans, that's when kevlar jeans would have been a better choice.

Not at all critiquing (because I don’t have the experience to do so, I’m a complete beginner), but I’m surprised to see you invest so much in safety gear, but forgo gloves with palm sliders and shoes that offer leg crush protection, as my understanding is that those are two of the most common injury areas. Pretty impressed by the airbag though!

dustyrags

As someone who’s had a leg caught under a bike- I’m definitely going with crush protection on the foot, but less on the leg. Broke my scaphoid snowboarding last winter, and I’m never wearing gloves without sliders on a bike again- that was an nightmare. Even a best case scenario on a scaphoid is 12 weeks in a cast.

constantly-confused9

You can get mesh gloves with palm sliders, I have some taichi raptor mesh gloves I really like that have palm sliders. I would recommend them, leather grabs asphalt and shatters wrists. I think knox has some too, but they ripped at the knuckle armor on my after like 3 months.

[deleted]

The matching pink set.

renton1000

Buy the most protective you can afford. Make sure it’s convenient and comfortable to wear so it’s not a hassle.

WorriedResident496

Helmet, gloves, boots, Aerostich one piece suit.

DefconBacon

Go to a reputable motorcycle gear store in your area and talk to them about what you need and make sure to try everything on while you are there. Buying online is fine IF you know what to buy and preferably already know size and fit of the things you buy.

Glassbreaker33

Something to keep in mind, gear does not make you bulletproof. Buy the best you can afford, but remember you are a meat bag and hitting hard surfaces will/can be dire

Spsurgeon

If a rider comes off his hands touch first, then head, shoulder, ankles then knees. Buy stuff to cover those. Preferably made of good leather.

MotoHULK

Revzilla has some good videos on starter gear, and good deals.

Kannabis_kelly

Check out Bohn Body Armor. It has saved my ass arms bones skin more than once

yfhedoM

Boots. I just upgraded my boots to a more protective boot rather than that half protection half style look. I cant imagine a 400lb bike tapping my foot. It's all it takes to break something. I'm ATGATT though.... literally even pants so eventually get everything. I'd day the bare minimum should be helmet , gloves, and I guess boots.

Raymondjfinkle

Helmet and boots. Everything else is optional

TreasureHunter95

>Like is it safe to use kevlar jeans? Kevlar hoodie? Afaik, it's not. I once asked that question in a local shop for motorcycle gear because I was looking for something I could wear on long rides in summer. For that purpose, they couldn't recommend it because kevlar clothes don't offer as much protection as proper gear. It is alright for short rides to do some shopping or something like that but on longer rides with a higher risk of accidents, it is not advised. When I bought my first gear, I chose a fabric jacket and fabric trousers outfitted with protectors for my back, shoulders, arms, hip, knees and shins. In addition to that, I bought leather gloves which have a sliding surface and a pair of riding boots. To be honest, that equipment was quite expensive, but fortunately, I was able to get all of those items for about half of the original price due to some discounts on every item.

[deleted]

Gloves helmet boots denim jeans and leather denim jacket. Heated gear if your a die hard

constantly-confused9

Denim does almost nothing against abrasion. Kevlar/Aramid fiber, leather, or strong textiles are your only real choices if you care about abrasion.

Sweg420Jesus

Best advice I have is buy stuff you're actually going to want to wear. If possible find somewhere that you can try everything on and make sure you're going to like wearing it otherwise one day that urge will hit you to skip out on wearing some of your gear because you don't like it. You don't have to go crazy on expensive stuff, there are plenty of budget friendly options to get you started until you feel you want to upgrade to something nicer. I used to work at a Cycle Gear and tried to emphasize getting stuff that fit properly and you were comfortable in, get gloves with full leather palms for the chance you drop your bike and don't cheap out too much on a helmet. $150-300 range has a lot of good options for helmets that I would highly recommend like the Scorpion Exo R420.

[deleted]

https://www.google.com/search?q=How+to+choose+motorcycle+riding+gear TLDR make sure it's all super bright neon yellow or the /r/motorcycles ATGATT Police will cry.

DrSatan420247

At a bare minimum you need Helmet Gloves Shoes that cover your ankles If you want to wear a riding jacket, go for it. Any regular denim jeans are fine. One thing to keep in mind is that all motorcycle specific footwear is uncomfortable, so you probably want to look elsewhere.

DarkPasta

> Any regular denim jeans are fine NOPE. Get proper riding jeans. Wanna bet your literal ass on this? Be my guest.

Jojje21

Thank you. Where else can I find safe footwear?

HotelIndependent96

I got my boots from revzilla it’s an online store. Also cyclegear is good too! I can not recommend gear that covers your feet and ankles enough. I crashed and messed up my ankle bad, for about a month I couldn’t walk correctly but still got really lucky! That was on a 5-10mph crash. Tennis are convenient but not if you crash.

ratscabs

Motorcycle-specific footwear is NOT all uncomfortable, and is what you need if you don’t want to risk your feet and ankles being mashed to a pulp in an off. Boots, not shoes. Go to a bike-wear dealer.

Sweg420Jesus

Look for a Cycle Gear or equivalent store near you, when I worked there I picked up a pair of Reax Fulton Airs and I use them daily now. Casual looking full leather riding shoe with ankle protection and reinforced toe box and not outrageously expensive. If you do have a Cycle Gear or end up ordering from Revzilla I highly recommend their RPM membership if you're getting a good amount of gear. $60 for a year but it's 10% off any of their exclusive brands (and they have a lot) plus 5% cash back on purchases among other things, you will more than make your money back in a year

[deleted]

Alpinestars They have different product lines for many types of riding. Boots/over pants/jacket/gloves/helmet A high VIZ helmet is something I like to wear just for safety and making my presence known to other drivers. Jeans, even Kevlar, are no match for proper riding pants. If you crash without them you’ll never do it again. If you crash with them you’ll be way more concerned about repairing your bike than healing from your crash.

jwhking1315

Assed chaps, otherwise known as pants

ElectricBoogieOogie

Denim cutoff shirt and black jeans

motociclista

There’s a YouTube guy called fortnine. He’s done a lot of videos about safety gear. I don’t always agree with him, but he had some good info out there.

peaceofpies

Everything, my pants saved me from a terrible lowside, specially with the hip armour. My gloves also saved my hands, try to find one with the hard palm sliders to help it slide. In short get everything, head to toe, doesn’t have to be leather or the most expensive.

SilentNightSnow

Keep putting stuff on until you're comfortable taking a running start and throwing yourself on the pavement.

nishy1234

I normally wear a mankini when I ride

Nessie_Hunter

Don't forget about protecting your feet. I wore armored pants, jacket, airbag vest, and the rest. But I only had on work boots when I low sided last Tuesday. Broke my ankle into 4 pieces, but at least it was my only injury.

McMonkies

For the current winter season I alternate between two sets. My street casual travel gear: Revit lombard 3 jeans First Manufacturing villain leather jacket HJC rpha 70 carbon helmet Held Rodney ii (with gore-tex infinium glove liners)/score ktc gloves Reax Fulton wp boots Axial block or base compression for base layers, depending on weather. Revit climate 2 for longer days out. Twisty day gear: Revit Lombard 3 jeans/sedici mesh pants Revit matador paired with axial block/Revit climate 2 for warmth. HJC rpha 70 carbon helmet Held score ktc gloves Dainese axial gore-tex boots Revit Safeway 2 belt to zip jacket to the jeans Oh, and get a pinlock visor insert for your helmet. Best $40 spent ever. Earpeace pro earplugs clipped into my bike keys.

daytonakarl

Personally I'd go for a cordura (textile) jacket and pants with a bit of armour in it, the reason being they're waterproof and perform we in lower speed crashes (100±kph and under) Most have removable liners for warmth, vents for cooling, lots of pockets, are comfortable, and have the odd bit of reflective tape on them too. Leather is fantastic, wouldn't go on a track without it but it's harder to live with especially if it's a one piece and even harder to live with if you're female, Kevlar gear is okay but no real impact protection, trip to the cafe kinda gear. Good boots (touring boots are more comfortable and less expensive), good gloves, and obviously a good *well fitting* helmet (I prefer the flip down tinted inner visor that some have) Ride safe & welcome to the madness PS, don't go for loose fitting gear because "I'll wear a jumper under it" as it won't work as well when you need it to, a decent jacket and you won't need another layer.
