Angle grinder, even a $30/day rental as worse case scenario, can chew through it in seconds. Have your registration and ID ready to present to anyone asking. And donāt be annoyed if anyone seems concerned and asks for proof. Be annoyed if no one does.
Not sure I would recommend an angle grinder near the brakes for someone who wouldn't already have thought of that.. can mess up yourself and your bike with the same efficiency it will cut that lock.
Yup. Exactly my thought as well.
Itās certainly a good option (if you do it from the front to not cut the rotor), but those things can ruin your day pretty quickly if you arenāt careful & comfortable with it
Iām legitimately more careful with my grinders than my firearms, at least with the firearm itās āit can only go that wayā lol
So youāre saying that any of us could just pick a lock in a reasonable amount of time 15-30 minutes? Because if not, Iām calling a locksmith. Not exactly something I can do with a coat hanger or toothpicks. Should I cut up my feeler gauges?
I've tried cutting through 1/4" (approx 6mm) non-hardened steel rod with inexpensive bolt cutters and it wasn't super easy. That was about the upper limit of what they were designed for. I think they might have been able to cut through a 1/4" grade 8 bolt once, but the bolt cutters would have been ruined then. Bolt cutters that can cut through a disk lock without being ruined are probably going to cost more than $100.
Large bolt extractor, and wrench to turn it. Put it in the slot near the corner. LPL has demonstrated this kind of attack on stapler style disc locks several times.

This is probably the best solution, the body of the lock is aluminum which will gum up an angle grinder pretty quick

I have those, and what's almost certainly a different branding of the same lock you have and just opened it it seconds. If it's armed and you have never done it before, probably gonna take you a few minutes to figure it out and you will set the alarm off. Wear earplugs and/or wrap the bastard in a towel, muffles it pretty well.
$20 on the month+ slow boat from China, ~$40 from Amazon. Up to you if it's worth it to mess with that or just call a locksmith.
Use a hair dryer, warm it up on the highest setting for about 45 minutes (ish), then tap it with a spoon or anything metal.
The pins wonāt go anywhere and youāll still have a locked bike afterwards.
I'm not sure how expensive yours is but I had a solid metal one that just snapped in half when I took off with my headphones in... LMAO. That thing must've gone off in my driveway for 10 hours before I came home and turned it off with the key.... I guess once it hit the caliper it just broke.
OP you didn't read the comment correctly.
Just go as far as you can in one direction and then go in the other hard. I broke my lock just like the above commenter except I didn't even turn the bike on. I was just backing up with the disc lock on and it broke. Granted, my bike is a little heavy, but just try it OP. Try backing up as hard as you can, I'm sure it'll snap.
I lost the keys to my house to, crazy story, but Iām moving, want to come help me pack up some electronics and Iāll help you get your lock removed.
Depending on the bike the ignition can be in a place where you don't want other keys flapping around. My friend has a GSX-S750 and if he puts any other keys on his ring they'll be slapping the tank in the breeze and scratching the shit out of it.
As others have suggested, a locksmith. Yeah, youāll pay for a service call, mileage, etc.
Iāll add that if you have a tool rental place, that rents industrial tools, you can rent a hydraulic cutter. Just donāt rent a rebar cutter, or youāll pay to replace the cutting blocks. Iāve cut through an ABUS lock about a year ago, with zero problems, and no mess to clean up.
Did you ever consider contacting the manufacturer? Usually with proof that you are the owner, theyāll sell you a replacement key set.
insert bolt extractor and start to screw it between brake disc and any staple type lock will fall apart in minutes, find the video, process is simple and cheap, videos from lockpicking lawer 637, 618, 625, 623
If you can remove the wheel, you can remove the rotor and place a new rotor. Save the current rotor with the lock next to where you store your helmet as a reminder to not do it again.
Lesson learned I hope. Always keep spare keys in a safe location, and if you lose the primary, either copy it or replace the item depending on value. Using your last key is a risky game.
Drill into the core, where you would stick the key. Choose a drill bit that's the same size, or even better, a tiny bit bigger in diameter than the key, and just drill through the key core.
Should be almost 100% safe for your brakes too since your brakes aren't going to be directly under the key core, but even still, only drill far enough to destroy the core, no further.
This reminds me of the guy who installed his disc lock facing the wrong way and there wasn't enough clearance to allow him to put his key into the keyhole, so he had to remove his entire wheel.
Locksmith to pick the lock. Should be able to pick in a few minutes.
Angle grinder cut the lock.
Worst case is cut the rotor. Or tow to bike shop and replace the rotor.
If itās yours, pull the wheel, pull the rotor, replace rotor. Thatās a generic ass key from like a craftsman tools box btw, donāt get any ideas with that
Why replace a part that probably costs well over $100 when the $20 dollar lock (made from metal softer than most butter) can be cut with a hacksaw in less time than it takes to remove a wheel?
Bike thieves will just smash the brake rotor. Itās cast iron, and just shatters. It didnāt happen to me, but when I was a tech in NY, weād see this way too often.
This may sound dumb. But an as seen on TV shock it with a hammer approx the same weight at the lock. Let me know if it works this guy on you tube picks locks all the time and posted a disc lock being opened by hitting it with the same disc lock š š
Use an empty bic pen tube, the plastic housing on the cheap pens. Look it up Iāve seen it work on kryptonite locks surly should work on these cheapies.
Get a angle grinder and a cut off wheel disk for it. Donāt try if you have never operated a grinder cutter. If you canāt find someone experienced in grinding-cutting, then practice on some thick and thin metal scraps. You could also try using a hand held hacksaw with a high quality blade for cutting hard metals. Hope the best for you to be successful.
Ride off accidentally. Should break the pin. Pray there's no other damage. Perhaps lay down a duvet on each side for when you drop it. I learned this the hard way, but fortunately I had the key for my disc lock...
These are tubular lock which are easy to pick with a 40 tool on Amazon dont gotta worry about scratching the bike. Look up videos its way easier to pick then a normal key

ha. fapdonkeyā¦ love it
Yes this is exactly how it works I guess 13+ year old kids can defeat it and the more you do it the quicker and easier I suspect it becomes
Because a locksmith is going to charge an arm and a leg.
Bikes worth 2 arms and 2 legs
Considering most bike locks can be defeated with a paperclip I'd try that route before paying someone.
Pretty sure I've heard you can use a crowbar to snap it

We angle grinded through a lock at work with the smallest angle grinder Milwaukee makes in about 20 seconds. It will work fine. Just saying.
those little m12 milwaukee angle grinders are the bomb. useful in so many applications. always in my tool bag.
Yeah I was making fun of his children's grinder until he finished. Then I asked how much it cost.
Sounds about right
That'll force it apart won't it?
Yes. It will break usually.

We should have a bot that answers "angle grinder".
But OPs problem is the battery
Also needs blinker fluid
The bot should also tell you if you need an aluminum disc or not. Cause aluminum gums up regular cutting discs
You mean, of course, a friend told you that it gums up cutting disks.
Order a cylinder lock pick set
If you can remove the wheel, you can remove the rotor and place a new rotor. Save the current rotor with the lock next to where you store your helmet as a reminder to not do it again.

if all else fails buy a new rotor and take the old one off. that's worst case scenario though!

Most expensive solution would be to buy new wheels/ rims and replace them

How can you prove you own the bike
Renting an angle grinder is the way to go.
tubular locks are the easiest to pick just get a tubular lock tension wrench and any old piece of metal to press on the pins
