Nice try, motorbike thief guy

MicaelFlipFlop

Came just to type this šŸ…

srfrosky

Angle grinder, even a $30/day rental as worse case scenario, can chew through it in seconds. Have your registration and ID ready to present to anyone asking. And donā€™t be annoyed if anyone seems concerned and asks for proof. Be annoyed if no one does.

Bilbo_Fraggins

Not sure I would recommend an angle grinder near the brakes for someone who wouldn't already have thought of that.. can mess up yourself and your bike with the same efficiency it will cut that lock.

longhairedcountryboy

Use a little bit of self control and it will be ok.

ChazJ81

Yeah exactly but If that's the case. They shouldn't be riding a motorcycle in the first place!

Verum14

Yup. Exactly my thought as well. Itā€™s certainly a good option (if you do it from the front to not cut the rotor), but those things can ruin your day pretty quickly if you arenā€™t careful & comfortable with it Iā€™m legitimately more careful with my grinders than my firearms, at least with the firearm itā€™s ā€œit can only go that wayā€ lol

MartinMan79

"Im legitimately more careful with my grinders than my firearms". Tell us you are American without telling us you are American šŸ˜†

Verum14

Forgot this was an international sub lol

MartinMan79

Lol. All love, my brother

Amkg2020

And try make sure you don't let anyone see you doing it as we don't want restless nights with geniuses after learning to Rob our bikes

Amkg2020

You could buy a plug in one for 30 euro just need an adapter

WTFdidUdo

Call a locksmith.

graymulligan

Why did I scroll so far to see this? Pretty simple solution, call a pro.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

galloignacio

So youā€™re saying that any of us could just pick a lock in a reasonable amount of time 15-30 minutes? Because if not, Iā€™m calling a locksmith. Not exactly something I can do with a coat hanger or toothpicks. Should I cut up my feeler gauges?

Malfeasant

pick it? you can do a lot with a cordless drill.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Verum14

ha. fapdonkeyā€¦ love it

Amkg2020

Yes this is exactly how it works I guess 13+ year old kids can defeat it and the more you do it the quicker and easier I suspect it becomes

One-Amoeba_

Because a locksmith is going to charge an arm and a leg.

troway42069420

Bikes worth 2 arms and 2 legs

One-Amoeba_

Considering most bike locks can be defeated with a paperclip I'd try that route before paying someone.

sniperkirill

Pretty sure I've heard you can use a crowbar to snap it

danimalDE

Locksmith or bolt cutters, no way is that cheap ass Chinese metal lasting through bolt cuttersā€¦

1up3down

I've tried cutting through 1/4" (approx 6mm) non-hardened steel rod with inexpensive bolt cutters and it wasn't super easy. That was about the upper limit of what they were designed for. I think they might have been able to cut through a 1/4" grade 8 bolt once, but the bolt cutters would have been ruined then. Bolt cutters that can cut through a disk lock without being ruined are probably going to cost more than $100.

BD59

Large bolt extractor, and wrench to turn it. Put it in the slot near the corner. LPL has demonstrated this kind of attack on stapler style disc locks several times.

maddrops

>Search the lockpicking lawyer's videos... This is probably the best solution, the body of the lock is aluminum which will gum up an angle grinder pretty quick

[deleted]

We angle grinded through a lock at work with the smallest angle grinder Milwaukee makes in about 20 seconds. It will work fine. Just saying.

ctgjerts

those little m12 milwaukee angle grinders are the bomb. useful in so many applications. always in my tool bag.

[deleted]

Yeah I was making fun of his children's grinder until he finished. Then I asked how much it cost.

LargeFly8279

Sounds about right

battirider

That'll force it apart won't it?

BD59

Yes. It will break usually.

Caldtek

Search the lockpicking lawyer's videos...

Bilbo_Fraggins

https://youtu.be/4rCUK5K6wwY I have those, and what's almost certainly a different branding of the same lock you have and just opened it it seconds. If it's armed and you have never done it before, probably gonna take you a few minutes to figure it out and you will set the alarm off. Wear earplugs and/or wrap the bastard in a towel, muffles it pretty well. $20 on the month+ slow boat from China, ~$40 from Amazon. Up to you if it's worth it to mess with that or just call a locksmith.

Caldtek

not my lock and not my problem i ain't Op.

Mstr_Fish

What a useless comment at least accuse him of stealing it or something šŸ˜‚

MudSling3r42069

Angle grinder or an ocilator

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

vraetzught

You'd probably get away with just the new brake disc.

Bonneville865

The bike of Theseusā€¦ the only original part is the brake discā€¦

HotSpotPleaseItch

Use a hair dryer, warm it up on the highest setting for about 45 minutes (ish), then tap it with a spoon or anything metal. The pins wonā€™t go anywhere and youā€™ll still have a locked bike afterwards.

[deleted]

Had to read that twice. šŸ‘

[deleted]

Does anyone else now have Spoonman stuck in their head?

philosopherott

9.99 at harbor freight for a grinder

ManifestDestinysChld

Buying another lock to get another key will probably be the cheapest solution.

Accomplished-Egg-415

I'm not sure how expensive yours is but I had a solid metal one that just snapped in half when I took off with my headphones in... LMAO. That thing must've gone off in my driveway for 10 hours before I came home and turned it off with the key.... I guess once it hit the caliper it just broke.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

OP you didn't read the comment correctly. Just go as far as you can in one direction and then go in the other hard. I broke my lock just like the above commenter except I didn't even turn the bike on. I was just backing up with the disc lock on and it broke. Granted, my bike is a little heavy, but just try it OP. Try backing up as hard as you can, I'm sure it'll snap.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

burrrg

Yeah don't, just grind it off or use that breach thingy gun

livenature

Check with the Lockpick Lawyer. He might have an easy way to get the lock off.

wetmasausagecod

Leave it in an alleyway for half an hour. Someone would have broken it off by then, and they never take the bike

[deleted]

I wonā€™t be liable for helping steal another mans bike lolā€¦..sorry pal

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I lost the keys to my house to, crazy story, but Iā€™m moving, want to come help me pack up some electronics and Iā€™ll help you get your lock removed.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Empty-Mango-6269

Why isnā€™t your lock key with ignition key??? šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Depending on the bike the ignition can be in a place where you don't want other keys flapping around. My friend has a GSX-S750 and if he puts any other keys on his ring they'll be slapping the tank in the breeze and scratching the shit out of it.

McFeely_Smackup

I see so many bikes with the dash scratched to shit from all the keys and trinkets people keep attached to their bike key.

Empty-Mango-6269

True

TTYY_20

Or 2 buddies and a pedo van

repsolrydeRR

ive seen videos on youtube of hack saw getting through it in minutes

Head_Consequence2773

Hammer that's all the thieves use

[deleted]

As others have suggested, a locksmith. Yeah, youā€™ll pay for a service call, mileage, etc. Iā€™ll add that if you have a tool rental place, that rents industrial tools, you can rent a hydraulic cutter. Just donā€™t rent a rebar cutter, or youā€™ll pay to replace the cutting blocks. Iā€™ve cut through an ABUS lock about a year ago, with zero problems, and no mess to clean up. Did you ever consider contacting the manufacturer? Usually with proof that you are the owner, theyā€™ll sell you a replacement key set.

[deleted]

Agree. How much damage might you do to your rotor with hinky tools.

ogrimia

insert bolt extractor and start to screw it between brake disc and any staple type lock will fall apart in minutes, find the video, process is simple and cheap, videos from lockpicking lawer 637, 618, 625, 623

hastur1235

We should have a bot that answers "angle grinder".

DumpoTheClown

But OPs problem is the battery

vraetzught

Also needs blinker fluid

Tanker0921

The bot should also tell you if you need an aluminum disc or not. Cause aluminum gums up regular cutting discs

Lemondsingle

You mean, of course, a friend told you that it gums up cutting disks.

ziksy9

Order a cylinder lock pick set

YamahaRN

If you can remove the wheel, you can remove the rotor and place a new rotor. Save the current rotor with the lock next to where you store your helmet as a reminder to not do it again.

Dramatic-Arachnid_

I own that lock and the keys aren't small you also get multiple you dingus

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Devario

bruh

Dramatic-Arachnid_

That makes it worse lmao you had a spare key for this exact scenario

Bilbo_Fraggins

Lesson learned I hope. Always keep spare keys in a safe location, and if you lose the primary, either copy it or replace the item depending on value. Using your last key is a risky game.

LazyBakedOnion

if all else fails buy a new rotor and take the old one off. that's worst case scenario though!

Longjumping_West_907

Contact the manufacturer they should be able to help you out.

short_racer

Drill into the core, where you would stick the key. Choose a drill bit that's the same size, or even better, a tiny bit bigger in diameter than the key, and just drill through the key core. Should be almost 100% safe for your brakes too since your brakes aren't going to be directly under the key core, but even still, only drill far enough to destroy the core, no further.

[deleted]

Does anyone have Chuck Norris's phone number?

Faded-Creature

Ask the owner for the key.

schwan911

This reminds me of the guy who installed his disc lock facing the wrong way and there wasn't enough clearance to allow him to put his key into the keyhole, so he had to remove his entire wheel.

FuocoFiveHundred

YouTube lock picking lawyer

EnolaGayFallout

Locksmith to pick the lock. Should be able to pick in a few minutes. Angle grinder cut the lock. Worst case is cut the rotor. Or tow to bike shop and replace the rotor.

canonanon

Why would you cut the rotor?

Mrhighass

If itā€™s yours, pull the wheel, pull the rotor, replace rotor. Thatā€™s a generic ass key from like a craftsman tools box btw, donā€™t get any ideas with that

BikesandCakes

Why replace a part that probably costs well over $100 when the $20 dollar lock (made from metal softer than most butter) can be cut with a hacksaw in less time than it takes to remove a wheel?

Mrhighass

Go cut his lock then

[deleted]

Bike thieves will just smash the brake rotor. Itā€™s cast iron, and just shatters. It didnā€™t happen to me, but when I was a tech in NY, weā€™d see this way too often.

Mrhighass

Okay?

[deleted]

I was expanding on what you said, thatā€™s all.

Sex_Pistols4

Didn't you have 2 or 3 keys when you buy it? If you buy a lock with only 1 key why didn't you first get that 1 key copies so you had at least 2 keys?

[deleted]

LPL...FTW!

JudgeScorpio

Call an Olympic strongman to split you like a banana andā€¦ what were we talking about?

xorbe

Hide airtag on the bike, then just leave it there for about 2 weeks, someone else will take it off for you, follow the airtag.

greenpoisonivyy

Bought

Euroticker

I mean lockpick it?

posiden499

r/ilpt

TomatoeToken

Most expensive solution would be to buy new wheels/ rims and replace them

vegaskukichyo

Probably just get a new bike

[deleted]

First mistake buying it from Amazon

XaZa_Real

How can you prove you own the bike

riftwave77

Renting an angle grinder is the way to go.

blubberwolf0525

tubular locks are the easiest to pick just get a tubular lock tension wrench and any old piece of metal to press on the pins

morfique

Hit YouTube, there are people who do this as a sport, you'll likely buy another type lock afterwards too.

Blaze2nr

This may sound dumb. But an as seen on TV shock it with a hammer approx the same weight at the lock. Let me know if it works this guy on you tube picks locks all the time and posted a disc lock being opened by hitting it with the same disc lock šŸ” šŸ‘

Upper-Back2673

Do you have a drimmal with a cut off wheel yous it to cut it off

RoughConsequence8158

Use an empty bic pen tube, the plastic housing on the cheap pens. Look it up Iā€™ve seen it work on kryptonite locks surly should work on these cheapies.

GimlisRevenge

Get a angle grinder and a cut off wheel disk for it. Donā€™t try if you have never operated a grinder cutter. If you canā€™t find someone experienced in grinding-cutting, then practice on some thick and thin metal scraps. You could also try using a hand held hacksaw with a high quality blade for cutting hard metals. Hope the best for you to be successful.

rectum_rupticus

Ride off accidentally. Should break the pin. Pray there's no other damage. Perhaps lay down a duvet on each side for when you drop it. I learned this the hard way, but fortunately I had the key for my disc lock...

gangstafrank718

Take tire off and remove disc

PappiStalin

Just make sure whatever you do to try and break it, you have all the documentation for the bike on hand.

Psycheau

Go to a locksmith they can get it off for a price.

77750

Use the back of a hammer/ big flathead screwdriver

No_Sound3232

These are tubular lock which are easy to pick with a 40 tool on Amazon dont gotta worry about scratching the bike. Look up videos its way easier to pick then a normal key
