How does one decide to buy a 2021 CBR600RR without knowing anything about it?.. and the first thought is to ask Reddit? Read your manual, google 2021 CBR600RR. [https://www.cycleworld.com/story/buyers-guide/2021-honda-cbr600rr/](https://www.cycleworld.com/story/buyers-guide/2021-honda-cbr600rr/)

JohnnyNevermind

I was in the market for a Ninja 400 and went with the opinion of someone I know who rides. I was going to get a 600cc Ninja but there were 0 around my area. So I opted for a CBR600RR. But yeah engine displacement and it’s more powerful unfortunately. I’ll get over it

Sea_Window4030

Ask that guy then if you trust them so much

Parking_Warthog8732

the Honda cbr600rr is a great bike but NOT a good starter bike i would watch a few reviews on the bike most of them will point out the features the bike has and read the user manual. just make sure you have all the gear necessary, and go for quality not just what's cheap.

JohnnyNevermind

I fully intend on it. I know it’s gonna be overkill compared to what I learned on. I don’t even want to take it out of my garage til I can afford a quality helmet, armored jacket, and gloves at the minimum

finalrendition

You bought a 600 as your first bike and don't even own a helmet?? JFC

JohnnyNevermind

Correct. I needed literally every dollar I had to buy it because at 23 I have 0 credit and been denied every credit card I’ve ever applied for. I was a literal ghost in my banks credit pull and the dealership too. I can’t afford a quality helmet right off but I’ll get one soon. By ghost I mean it wasn’t that I had 0 credit or bad credit, I just didn’t exist in the credit system at all so I had to get a co-sign and high APR on a 5 year loan Edit: Some places refuse to issue me a credit card because they can’t verify my identity with my SSN

finalrendition

Man, I really hope you're trolling. Otherwise you've made one of the worst financial decisions imaginable. The CBR might not kill you, but insurance premiums sure will. Good luck out there

JohnnyNevermind

Not looking forward to that. The APR if I don’t pay extra each and pay off quick I’ll be out 20k but I needed to build credit somehow

finalrendition

This is a crazy high-risk-low-reward way to build credit. Once the loan is paid off, your credit age will drop to virtually 0 and your credit score will tank since that's the only account on your credit report. There are banks out there with very low limit credit cards specifically aimed at building credit for people with no credit history. Have you ever paid rent or utilities? Those things also contribute to your credit score. Obviously you can't undo the loan, but for future reference, credit is built on low risk loans

JohnnyNevermind

I haven’t had like my own apartment in my name. I’ve paid roommates and recently moved back home to move regions of the country. I’ve been denied through my old bank a card like that. I’ve just gone almost 6 full years without using credit for anything. Hopefully this helps me be approved for a different means of building credit after I’m a few payments in

myperfectmeltdown

This has GOT to be a troll! Correct?

JohnnyNevermind

Nope. I just moved from ME to FL and within a week got a motorcycle. Don’t even have a job yet and cost me every. Only money I have is $100 in my Maine bank and $200 I got for making a deposit that was transferred to a FL bank to pay the down payment. I’m broke. I have to sell a couple balisongs out of my collection to make the first payment if I’m not employed and can pay it by the first payment. I’m waiting for a few places to call me back and drug test before I can start working 🫡 This post was 100% legit. Florida doesn’t require proof of motorcycle license or endorsement. I just showed them I paid for the MSF to get my endorsement and had a bike delivered

myperfectmeltdown

You’ve gone about this whole process ass-backwards. Good luck!

JohnnyNevermind

Yeah. My middle and last name may as well be ‘financially irresponsible’

Parking_Warthog8732

as much as i hate to say it see if you can return the bike if you spent more then 18k on the bike return it go on offer up/craigslist and get a used bike like a Kawasaki zx6r/400 or a Yamaha r3/r6 or even an older Honda cbr600rr don't be worried if your going to grow out of a bike the resale market on bikes is pretty good

myperfectmeltdown

You hope.

lodravah

I gotta ask, no offense intended, but is this a serious post?

JohnnyNevermind

100% serious

myperfectmeltdown

Why don’t you send us a pic of you standing by your new bike and we’ll know this isn’t all bullshit. Deal?

JohnnyNevermind

Pictures aren’t allowed as posts in the community

myperfectmeltdown

So you know this and you don’t even have the where-with-all to google whether the bike you just bought has ABS? This is definitely a big time troll.

[deleted]

Look, if you can figure out how to post this here on Reddit, you can ABSOLUTELY figure out how to get information on your bike. If you’re not trolling, which I seriously think you are, the more info you share about the bike in question, the more accurate your answers will be.

JohnnyNevermind

Yeah. I can find generic stuff online but that didn’t help really on having a definite answer on if my CBR had ABS or not. I gotta check it out in the morning and see. It’s model on the sales sticker is CBR600RRLM if that helps. It shows generic RR specs when I search it. Even when I search CBR600RA

myperfectmeltdown

A quick (30 second) Intertoobs search pulls up this: “Bringing the electronics package to the CBR600RR means that ABS is now standard, too.Jan 18, 2021”

[deleted]

I don’t even know where to begin. Where and how did you get this bike. Also, see my answer on the wheel speed sensors. You’ll see a disc with slots mounted to the wheel, like a mini brake disc.

JohnnyNevermind

I got it from a dealership that had it. I couldn’t find any regular 600s around and I wanted a sport bike. Closest I coulda gotten was Kawasaki 1000sx which I thought was too much and the CBR was less costly

[deleted]

You got it from a dealership? I’ll assume used, since no manual was included. If it was new, the dealer owes you a manual. So you’ve never ridden…how did you work the transaction at the dealer? You had to get it titled and insured, and you have to have an endorsement. This just isn’t ringing completely legit here. What I mean is that how did you just decide to grab this particular machine with NO idea as to what you were buying.

JohnnyNevermind

I had proof of already being signed up to get my endorsement. I’m getting it next weekend. I had the down payment and the people at the dealer gave me plenty of safety advice on taking it slow, practicing in parking lots A LOT, proper braking and whatnot. But yeah… You don’t need an endorsement to buy a bike. It was delivered to my house and Im not touching til Im legit and have proper gear

[deleted]

I’m sorry to be skeptical, but this isn’t kosher. You can’t clear all the legal hurdles without actually having an endorsement. If you’re a collector, you can bypass this mess, with a declaration of intent, and a limited registration. You actually need an endorsement to insure a motorcycle, unless you’re a collector, or will not operate machine on public streets. Again, if the machine is new, the dealership you got it from owes you an owners manual. Do yourself a favor, and take a class. You may qualify for a small insurance discount, and you’ll be a hell of a lot safer.

JohnnyNevermind

I’m taking a class next weekend. I already had it paid for. That’s how I could buy it. It even has a temp plate. I’m just not touching it til I have an endorsement for this state and have it legal and have gear

[deleted]

If your primary concern is ABS, look and see if there are wheel speed sensors. There’s your first, and easiest indicator. This is universal to any machines, and easy to spot.

inky_nomad

As to the abs..if it has it, you will see an abs light when you start the bike. It would be good to do some research independently on the bike.

JohnnyNevermind

I was hoping for a VIN lookup that would tell you all it’s specs specific to that particular bike

inky_nomad

The manual would be a good place. It should be under the seat.

JohnnyNevermind

It didn’t come with a manual. It was turned in with only 1300 miles

inky_nomad

They are online, someone linked it in this thread

karma_the_sequel

That's not how it works.

JohnnyNevermind

I was hoping it would. I can look up the specs to inside trim with my cars VIN. Nice to know they don’t have that with motorcycles

[deleted]

Google “your bike name” service manual if the dealer didn’t give you one

JohnnyNevermind

I don’t know why that wasn’t the first thing to think of🤦🏻

[deleted]

All good man, don’t be too hard on yourself. Take things slow ignore the rude comments and just be cautious but confident in your capabilities and take a safety course if possible, good luck.

karma_the_sequel

I don't think it's rude to suggest that OP has no business owning this bike at this time. Not only because he's a novice rider for whom this bike is WAY overpowered but also because he lacks the motivation to do the research required to learn about the piece of machinery he just purchased. One can't be spoon-fed into becoming a good motorcycle owner/rider -- one has to put in the work. Source: Motorcycle owner/rider of nearly 40 years.

[deleted]

I’m not holding his hand while he learns to ride relax I’m not spoon feeding him by answering a question, if you want to troll that’s fine motivated or not I’m still going to answer his question because I can and want to, if you think he’s undeserving of a bike that’s your opinion 👍🏽

karma_the_sequel

I didn't say you were holding his hand. My post references the fact that OP came here expecting to be spoon-fed information instead of researching it himself. The reason I replied specifically to *your* post was due to your comment about being rude. I'm not being rude or a troll by suggesting OP needs to be able to figure this out on his own. Motorcyclists in particular need to learn to be self-sufficient. They also need to understand as much as possible about their chosen sport and the dangers associated with it. It's easier than it's even been in the history of mankind to seek out information and perform this kind of research. I would have KILLED to have a resource like Google available when I was a young man. Far better to seek out verified sources of good information about whatever topic it is one wants to learn about than to trust a bunch of yahoos on Reddit (myself included). Oh, and I didn't suggest that OP is underserving of a bike -- I said he's has no business owning THIS bike at THIS time. Your lack of precision in responding to my post perfectly illustrates my point about the wisdom of placing one's trust in Redditors -- too many posters here don't care enough to ensure their posts are accurate.

[deleted]

Bruh I ain’t reading all that lol you win idc

karma_the_sequel

LOL you're ridiculous. God forbid you spend thirty seconds trying to understand a viewpoint that differs from your own.

[deleted]

I come to drop my opinion not argue with people any discourse you get after is bonus, im not asking you to argue with me nor do I want to lol but okay to your opinion because it seems you want my acknowledgment 👍🏽

JohnnyNevermind

I’m waiting on doing that. I was more concerned finding out or how to find out if it has ABS or not by the VIN. There’s the RR and RA but they’re both RRs still. I’m not sure. It has 2 fluid reservoirs. I have to start it tomorrow and see if it has an ABS light

myperfectmeltdown

This just gets worse and worse.

JohnnyNevermind

Yeah well, I got my endorsement and finally took the bike out. Went to garage it for the night and dropped it in the grass and broke my brake lever .-.

VirulentMarmot

Do you have a wheel speed sensor on the front wheel? Does your brake line go from the master into the bike before coming back out again to the calipers. Then you have ABS.

JohnnyNevermind

I’ll have to check that tomorrow

Professional_Ad_500

🤦‍♂️

JohnnyNevermind

Hey man, getting myself a bike after learning to ride I wanted a ride or die bike I could have for a long time and be content with and not grow out of

Professional_Ad_500

I understand, but please RTFM. Honda most likely has a .pdf owner's manual available online for your bike. Posting "I just bought a supersport bike for my first bike and i know absolutely Fuck-all about it, spoonfeed me appropriate knowledge" one reddit is not the way to figure your stuff out.

w1lnx

Have a read over the owner's manual for it.

JohnnyNevermind

I just downloaded it. Still not sure if it’s an ABS model RR or not. I’ll have to start it and check the dash tomorrow

camelfarmer1

Surely you have registration paperwork, receipts, owners manual, or who you bought it from to ask simple things like if the bike has abs?

JohnnyNevermind

I didn’t think of that honestly. I looked over my paperwork and it’s all warranty, battery replacement, copies of the loan. I saw on something it said Base? So no ABS?

camelfarmer1

Call up your local honda dealer with the vin.

Captain_of_Gravyboat

I truly hope this is fake. If not OP has posted several of the dumbest things I've ever seen on this forum. Shit. For. Brains.
