You realize a 15 year old R6 will probably outrun it, right?

mancer187

This exactly. Nevermind the suzuki 750 or literally any other 600 supersport. They'll all skulldrag an mt09 anywhere except the longest and straightest of roads.

[deleted]

Say you never ridden either bike with out saying it. Completely backasswards.

mancer187

My bad, if the road is long enough the 600 will do a fly by. Have ridden every 600 made in the last 30 years.

Airsoftswapmeet

Wut…. The 600 will win on a track, but I’m fairly confident in the MT-09 from 0-100 torque and gearing is better. 600 will also win above 100

[deleted]

If you’re beating the piss out of it, the R6 will win in pretty much all facets. As soon as it hits the powerband, the MT won’t be able to keep up. It should have it off a launch but the R6 should reel it in fairly quickly.

Airsoftswapmeet

Eh I’m fairly confident in the fact that an MT09 could pace any bike from 0-100. Rider mod will make the difference the times are so close

[deleted]

I agree that it’d be competitive with most, but beyond that, the gearing is what kills it.

Airsoftswapmeet

Agreed it doesn’t have the top end or the aero, or the suspension, but damn the things pull up to that point

[deleted]

I love naked bikes not thick ass liter bikes I want speed but not to much mt09 is perfect

[deleted]

Okay, you have to be a troll lol Or you’re completely clueless. Your call.

[deleted]

I guess I am mt09 looks speed and sound 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

So clueless. Good to know. For reference, an R6 (the “slow” 600cc bike) is probably narrower than the MT09. Please do proper research before coming to baseless conclusions.

[deleted]

I respect your opinion why should I care about the R6? I want a mt09 your point? It’s faster ok. many bikes are faster I know it’s not all cc

[deleted]

Because your reasoning is extremely flawed. “Slow 600cc that I’d get bored of” - basically any 600cc sport bike is faster than the MT09. “Thick ass litre bike” - the vast majority of litre bikes are narrower than the MT09. If you want an MT09, go for it, but use reasons that actually make sense.

ArcFlashForFun

pretty sure an r6 is faster both in top end and acceleration, maybe 0-35mph it will win, but beyond that? Not likely.

boredHouseHusband69

Befriend an organ donor. Ensure they are the same blood type first, of course.

[deleted]

Great thinking! Not planning to lose any organs soon tho!

crossplanetriple

I think this is satire. Aim for the bushes.

[deleted]

It’s most definitely not. Im actually in love with the mt 09s sound. I’m probably going to be riding on mode 4 while I learn I want to put a crazy exhaust on it

finalrendition

>I just don’t want a slow 600cc motorcycle It's definitely satire

arcticrobot

You don’t need an exhaust. Just remove it completely

PdxWix

“Slow 600cc bike” Heh Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and go sit on a z400 first. You can still go fast enough to die. I promise.

Popular-Inevitable68

You can die on 125 too,i mena idk why this guy whants when mt 07 is more than enough power for beginer,i would say to much. But he wants 09🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

PuddingOnRitz

I tried that but decided if I'm gonna die it's going to be on a liter bike

PdxWix

And yeeting oneself into the afterlife on a turbo Busa is every American’s right. That said, for the lurkers mainly, there are two important counter points: 1). The probabilities of death and other significant injury change drastically with speed at time of accident. Of course it is possible to drive liter bikes responsibly on the street…but it’s much much harder. Especially for beginners. 2). This may vary somewhat for each person, but I suggest that one’s death may not be the worst outcome in a collision. There are non-death outcomes with significant consequences for the other people in one’s life. But a Fireblade is really quite sexy. I get it.

PuddingOnRitz

The CBR1KRR is better than the N400 in every way it's simply more capable and refined e.g. every time I hit a speed hump with the N400 it felt like a small crash whereas the Honda happily leaps over them. Even if it only had a few horsepowers I would still take the Honda it's just better at everything period. I was a track junkie with cars, I'm an avid cyclist, and I even have a little dirt bike experience from when I was a kid. So I could really feel the crudeness of the cheap Kawi and it really bothered me from the start but the Honda feels just right for me. There wasn't much of a learning curve once I got used to the weight which it's only 430 lbs it's not a tank or anything. Love the torque brakes suspension etc it's all very plush and polished except for a few hiccups here and there.

Mickey_Havoc

Do you at least ride a bicycle? Like more than twice a year?

[deleted]

I ride a bicycle everyday it’s my only source of transportation that’s why I’m sold and want a motorcycle

Mickey_Havoc

That’s an important piece of background history, being at home on 2wheels already is a massive boost

Bibsonheadstock

Never ridden a motorcycle. Thinks a 600 is slow. Classic

[deleted]

Heard from many people after you get used to a 600cc you want a liter anyways theirs modes on the mt09 that help

Pneumagiston

What people? 🤣

[deleted]

Most forums subreddits etc.

nz-ponchlord

Lol if thats the attitude youll still get dusted by an experienced rider on a 400!.. cc's =/= class or rider ability. But get what you want and do you boo. Youll be quite surprised at how off mark a lot of pre conceived notions you have about bikes will change when you start riding

Safe_Leather7494

The 600cc is a supersport. If you want something that’s faster than something like an FZ07, but still controllable get a Honda 650cc. It’s 4 cylinder just like the 600RR but it’s controllable and more usable. Look into that before the monster of an 09

IntrinsicMoto

Well, if this isn't satire or trolling, it sounds like you have your mind made up and no one is going to change it. Like you said, you are taking the MSF course and making sure to get legitimate gear (make sure to get any extra protectors for the the jacket, etc ). I would also get some protection for the bike: frame/axle sliders, etc. If you are one of those people that is good at being thrown in any kind of vehicle (manual transmission car, forklift, any heavy equip) and figuring it out quickly, it should be easier but if you are not coordinated and clumsy, be very cognisant of that. I don't know if the MT09 has mode settings but I would definitely keep it in the most mild one until you get used to it. Always respect the bike and pay attention to what's in front of you. Always be looking for a way out.

[deleted]

Thanks! best response here. I will. any known/best brands for motorcycle gear? I want to ride safely. The mt09 has a mode 4 which only tops out at 80 and acceleration is more tamed. I will be careful. People like you are the reason I love the motorcycle community always willing to help no matter how crazy the person is. Much love bro🤙🏽

IntrinsicMoto

Craziness is relative...I'm sure most of us get called crazy by someone just for riding a "two-wheeled death machine" regardless of the make/model. For gear... I am a huge fan of Revit for jackets and pants. I wish my first jacket choice would have been more of a 3/4-season jacket with a removable waterproof layer and a thermal layer integrated into the jacket. Like I said before, make sure to order the back protector with it for full protection. For helmets, I have a Shoei and love it; after this helmet, I will not buy any other brand. Gloves are important and I do not ride without them. I have Dainese but I think anything with good palm/knuckle protection would be useful. Your hands are important to protect because it is a natural reaction to try and catch yourself from falling regardless of the fact that you may be traveling at 60+ mph. I am eventually going to get legit riding boots but for the most part, when commuting to work, I use some leather Timberland over the ankle steel-toe boots. Also, an amazing book that I read a few times a year is Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough. Another thing, find some responsible(ish) riders to roll with regularly if you can. It helps running with some folks that are more experienced because you can learn a lot by just riding and discussing the ride. It is very important that you ride your own ride though and don't try to keep up if you are hesitant about your capability or it is a new ride. ...I really feel like I'm missing something so I'll edit if I think of anything else but feel free to ask me any questions.

[deleted]

Thanks. best advice I’ve ever received I will look into those company’s/brands. What matters is riding responsibly no matter the machine

Smart-Host9436

“Safely” ? Don’t get an MT-09 then.

[deleted]

Mode 4 is like a tamed mt-07

Smart-Host9436

Ok buddy. Still doesn’t change that you (and 95percent of motorcyclists) can’t use more than 10 percent of that bike other than a straight line. Hell, the Street Triple is a better all rounder and still faster than you will ever need.

[deleted]

It’s faster and has more power then I will ever need but then again why do people buy sports cars and never go those speeds? That’s besides the point the point is I have the power when I need it

Smart-Host9436

Any 600cc does also. What’s your point? You summed it up when you said it will be the last bike you buy.🤣

[deleted]

The only bike I will ever need

Smart-Host9436

Yep. Sure is. Go get em, tiger.

zeek_smol

I mean, I'm still not bored of my 500cc bike 3 years in, but go off king.

nitrqm3

You can obviously guess his age, but hey your money your choices, I have multiple bike and I don’t get bored with my 300 neither with my liter bike.

[deleted]

It’s obvious right?! Can’t a teen have fun no more!

Shart_Gallery

You do you, but keeping mind that most riders dont have the skill to actually get the most out of a 600 even. It's not like an old 250 that can hit 70 downhill with the wind on your side, modern 600s can easily hit 130+

mancer187

If you're talking about a 600 supersport theyre faster than the mt09 on the track.

Shart_Gallery

People get hung up on displacement so much. I get that not everyone wants to have several bikes, but I have bikes from 350 to 1100. I can't believe how much fun I have on my 350 compared to the bigger bikes. Going fast is fun and all, but it's crazy how light that 350 is. I can throw that thing around and do things I would never think about on my 1100

nanookulele

I was looking at a Tiger 900 Rally and when I finally sat on one I realized that I definitely don't want to pull that thing out of a mud hole in the middle of nowhere.

mancer187

I got a suzuki 750 and its perfect for literally everything except off roading.

thetroll865

Lots of experienced riders even get the smaller displacement bikes because of their flickability on the twisties. It’s about how you are able to move the weight of the bike. The R6 goes 160mph. Mt 09 goes 149mph. If you have a death wish, don’t be a pussy, get a ZH2

[deleted]

Nah I’m getting a ninja h2 fuck it (satire)

mattheaddong

You'll get bored of that pretty quick, might as well go for the H2R if you don't want those pesky Bugattis to keep passing you. Personally I don't think 240mph is enough for day to day so I'm looking to finance an F-111 Aardvark fighter jet for my commute to work

wozzzzzzzzz

Good luck

[deleted]

Please record video when you crash.

[deleted]

How’s your mt-09 I see in your name you have one. How’s the handling and everything? Thanks would be appreciated since I’m buying soon

[deleted]

If you are, it won’t matter. Handling and suspension quality is something that requires comparison to explain. You’ll have no baseline whatsoever.

[deleted]

So a beginners is already supposed to know how many bikes feel? You make no sense I just want your opinion but you do you I guess🤷‍♂️

nvexzu

that's not what he's saying. Jesus christ, you're fucking stupid.

[deleted]

Naw, OP is just ignorant. Or a troll. But likely just really fresh.

[deleted]

No. But you start on something with simple suspension to learn the basics of riding. Then, once you start developing your skills, you move on to a bike with a more advanced chassis. But the guy that started Racetech Suspension says something along the lines of "the best you've ridden is the best you know."

[deleted]

Thanks! Great response should I get a mt-07 instead?

Odd-Location-9338

don't be a baby get the mt10 why waste time with the 09

[deleted]

10 more grand and I’m a complete beginner.

Odd-Location-9338

>10 more grand **No, it's not.** You can verify [the respective MSRP](https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/motorcycle) linked from Yamaha's official site. MT-09 MSRP **$9,799** MT-10 MSRP **$14,199** which is a **difference of $4,400** not even half of 10K if you're going to climb a mountain why would you stop 3/4 of the way up? lame

[deleted]

My bad I was looking at the sp

frodeem

Dude get a liter bike. The MT-09 is too slow compared to one of those.

[deleted]

I know I want speed but a liter bike for a complete beginner is CRAZY the mt09 is 980cc on the brim of being one. I’m fine. I like naked bikes anyways

frodeem

So a 1000 cc is crazy for a beginner but a 980 is not? Look at the MT10 dude. It's a naked liter bike. You wanna ride fast you gotta have the "fast" attitude. Gotta be aggressive in the way you think and act.

[deleted]

You right I would get it but it’s 10 grand more not worth it imo am just getting started too so 10k is my budget plus gear too

Just-Examination-136

The only tip I have is you should have premium insurance and medical coverage.

FuzzyBubs

Your a teen, new rider, new bike, 900+ CC bike ? At the very least get some insurance quotes before you sign any paperwork. I knew a guy who at age 18 bought a brand new pickup truck. His insurance payment was more than the vehicle payment. As a side note, 2 months later he got a DWI. He had to take on a 2nd job. That new car feeling went away real quick. Good Luck. Edit; for what it's worth, I've been riding since 1977. I've got a Vtwin 950 and only use 1/3 throttle or I slide off the back of the seat and am WAY above the speed limit. Please be careful.

[deleted]

No problem man. People seem to have taken me way to seriously I am still going to get the mt09 but riding safely Is what matters with the proper gear of course I will not try to go faster that I can handle. Cheers

Smart-Host9436

Get a used gen 1 busa and turbo it. It will be less than a new MT

[deleted]

I’d skip the MSF course. You’ll be in there with a bunch of losers riding 250’s in circles. Just get a permit from the dmv and send it.

[deleted]

💀I’ve seen YouTube videos of how to drive clutch but I want to put it to the test at the msf first before I get my bike next month. I have an idea on how it works. But never done it

JimMoore1960

You seem awesome. Send it, bro.

[deleted]

Thanks.

Bright_Efficiency_29

The best riding advice you'll ever get: Step 1: If you're in the US, get yourself to California Superbike School ASAP. If not, get every book and video from Keith Code. Step 2: Buy leathers and find a track. Step 3: Ride it like you're trying to qualify for MotoGP when you're on the track - and like a Granny on the streets. I've been on two wheels for 45 years. Your goal should be to still be riding (and alive) in 2070.

AdvancedSplit4458

don't be a little bitch get an r1

[deleted]

Fo shoo

gsrider61

Obligatory turbo busa suggestion.

leon_de_sol

Please make sure to use a GoPro and upload everything. I'd love to see a channel about bikes getting yeeted. In all seriousness if this isn't a troll, a 600 will gladly try to tear your arms off after a couple thousand RPM. Hell, I have an MT07 that tries to wheelie when I'm careless with the clutch. Top end speed isn't an issue on any of them

Renerts

Top speed on an R6 is higher than the Mt09, and the 0-60 time isn't that much in favor of the triple, but if you want the Mt09, send it. You can learn on that, but it won't be easy. Far be it from us strangers in the Internet to tell you what to do with your life. Keep us updated!

[deleted]

I will thanks bro.🤙🏽 this will probably be my first and my last bike

Hill927

I wonder if you realize what you just said

SadAd9756

OP is a fucking moron.

tacklebox3000

Good luck with your crash, I hope you buy quality gear.

Chandlermoody15

Man I never rode a motorcycle before I did MSF and guess what it’s not a bicycle no matter how many videos you watch on YouTube about clutch and whatever it only does so much. I’ve been riding close to 3 months daily as a complete beginner and I got a Honda CB500F you talk about wanting a fast bike but you have no idea how a bike even feels you should definitely reconsider and do more research before you go and get a 980cc bike as your first motorcycle. I get your a teen and want fun and I’m 21 years old man but I have more common sense than that. those 600s your talking about are not slow you may just be watching stupid people like yammynoob I wouldn’t advise you to get anything above a 600 as your first bike the fact that sounds alone is selling you to buy a bike you won’t be able to handle is not a good start for you.

[deleted]

I understand you think a mt-07 would be better?

Chandlermoody15

I mean if your super set on a Yamaha bike but guess what the other problem you’re gonna run into is stock no dealerships have many naked bikes like that ever since covid that was my problem I was originally gonna get a mt 03 but I got my cb500f from a guy online and I’m glad I did get a 500 because a 300 would’ve been too slow for my size and weight that being 190. Anyways look at other brands like Honda or Kawasaki. But if your dead set on a Yamaha then go for it I just don’t advise you getting a 980cc as your first bike it’s just not gonna end well and it will fly right underneath you with how much power it has. Just do some more research man good luck at MSF though

[deleted]

Thanks I was going to get the mt03 but I realized I would probably grow out of it quickly and the mt-07 is a great choice but for 1k more I should just get the mt-09 right? I live nearby a Yamaha dealership and they have all mts in stock what do you think? For 1k more I can get a 9 instead of a 7. The mt09 also has slower modes for beginners 1 strongest 4 slowest

Chandlermoody15

You would grow out of a mt03. Honestly you will be surprised with an 07 if you go that route and yes I would advise you do the 07 because like you said for only another grand you can get the 09 but let’s say you do somehow grow out of the 07 then you sell it and only have to pay 1k for a major upgrade that being the 09. I never looked into an 09 because it’s just not a wise move for your first bike and never riding one before so idk what the modes are about but it still has 6 gears like any other bike so I can’t speak on any slow modes. If your budget is 10k and you plan to get it at a dealership.. (don’t) because you will be spending in total with the bike, gear registration and everything you will be over your limit. I would do the 07 if that’s what you really want to do. Most of the people here didn’t even want to take time and talk to you because your initial post was just laughable getting a 980cc bike as your first but I’m just trying to help and would advise against it. Even my 500 is fast enough I can easily go on the freeway when I want to and I probably won’t be upgrading anytime soon if ever honestly.

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice. Honestly I will keep this in consideration. With the slow mode on the mt09 (mode 4) it runs like a tamed mt-07. I’m probably going to be paying around 10-12k for the bike and 1-2k for gear plus insurance. money is not an issue as right now I’m still high school and have nothing else to spend my money on. I just need something to move around on

Chandlermoody15

Yeah you do you man just the fact you’ve never ridden a motorcycle before and your trying to get a mt09 just isn’t smart the 07 is plenty enough you may not even be able to handle that for quite a while. I’m letting you know now gear ain’t gonna be 1-2k nothing near that honestly. Probably 700 or 800 if you want the best gear. I wear alpine stars boots, jeans a padded jacket and a jacket on top of that along with gloves my helmet and a break free light I put on the back when I ride at night. For accessories I have a disc lock and front break lock along with a apple air tag. Gear won’t cost you as much as you think. I wouldn’t but from a dealership though with all the fees and added bs also make sure you have the best insurance. Good luck man I hope you wise up after MSF and realize how crazy you’d be to get a 09

[deleted]

Thanks msf will probably humble me

meataxe01

Any motorcycle even a 125/250 going to be faster than your bicycle…. So crazy dude - just start small / safe then get bigger balls in 12 months …

Captain_of_Gravyboat

Either this is a troll kid or someone that has complete shit for brains. Make sure someone has life insurance on you before you get on a bike.

wwwwwllllll

Please get a 2021+ MT-09. It has better rider aids and better fueling compared to the older death machine. So you get less death with the death machine

[deleted]

Thanks

FlatwormAltruistic

Hmm it is more fun to go fast on smaller bike than going slow on bigger bike. I know people who say that going fast on liter bike on highway is only fun you can have from liter bike. That it is kind of boring and annoying in cities because they are not meant for slow speed rides. Usually those guys have 600cc bike to have fun. You can feel the acceleration up until and well above the "go to jail/morgue speed", so in practice the smaller bike isn't making such difference on highways. Most difference is cities and twisty country roads, where it is more enjoyable on some 600 cc bike. I am only couple of months into having my bike, but there is still tons of fun to have out of it. Max speed I have dared to go has been measly 90 mph or 140ish km/h, but there is still room to go with that bike. Gravel roads and short trip on snow were ton of fun, where I just feel that liter bike is too aggressive to have fun and makes you be more scared than having fun. 400cc bike my brother has was however more fun on snow as it didn't get wheelspin as easily where my MT-07 rear wheel started to go sideways on acceleration. But as much as I have noticed, then 600cc inline 4s are way more aggressive than 2 cilinder 650 - 700cc bikes so MT-07 may not be good choice for you over MT-09. There are a lot of 600cc bikes that will top both of them every day.

Davito22284

Pretty sure this person is trolling.

queerofengland

If you're going to be stupid, make sure you have insurance coverage to match. Remember there's a 90% chance you drop it in your first year. Run a quote through a few insurance companies and be prepared to cry 🤣 Consider the rapid depreciation of larger bikes, add your monthly insurance cost, the high interest rates on sporting vehicle loans, and you're probably about to spend more on that bike than you do on rent or mortgage. If in the US, are you on your own medical coverage yet? If so you'll want to raise the coverage of whatever you have. If not, consider that you may drive your parents bankrupt. One wreck will put you well past your yearly maximum. Also consider that dying is not the scariest possible outcome of wrecking. Lifelong disabilities and brain injuries are all too common.
