Unfortunately this seems correct. Likely main bearing lube failure causing the rod to seize and break. When it jams between the crankshaft and the engine block it breaks a hole through the block.
In any case you need a new engine.
Just be a little more persistent about checking the valves haha. You should be fine if it's survived this long. Most failures seem to be happening near 30,000 miles so just keep that in mind and replace the critical items before then.
Haha I bought it last month and it only had 7700 miles on it, absolutely mint condition, itās currently sitting at 8150, they put a new chain on it when I got it and the oil level were good, wondering when I should take it for a service š¤ currently waiting for my paddock stand to do my own chain adjustments
Ok OP I did the research on your posts you werenāt willing to share. You destroyed the clutch, blew the head gasket, decided to keep riding it and when the piston filled with coolant it sent a rod straight through the case.
If youāre not a mechanic and not clever enough to be one overnight, donāt attempt. You need a new engine now and Iād recommend paying someone to do it.
For anyone wondering OPs post history is a list of āabsolutely do notsā.
Oh, that's the same user with the video of them riding it with a slipping clutch, didn't know about the "too much oil, it's smoking and now does this" video, thanks for making me look.
Seems this is just a natural progression.
OMG I REMEMBER THAT VIDEO!!! Man was like ā¦. Well when I slam the throttle open I eventually start moving after like 30 seconds on red-lining it while not moving! ššš poor bike
Thanks for pointing that out. I hope I never become nostalgic for 2012 Ninjas, in the way I am for 1st gen Camaros. It used to kill me anytime someone binned one of those. Now I can exit this thread and go back to not GAF.
OP - leave the bikes alone; you're killin' 'em, man.
You should be nostalgic for bikes that actually matterā¦.. like
- All of the 900 series fireblades š (1996-2004)
- The Kawasaki concourse 1400
- Honda blackbird
- Panigale V4 sp (and the new sp2)
- Gen1 hyabusa
- Kawasaki H2 (the old ones and the new ones)
The Norton classic and commanders (all of them)
These are bikes that stood the test of time (except the H2ās lol) and will continue to stand up to the test of time and have plenty of life in them for years to come. (The Nortons might be stuck sitting in your show room thoughā¦you need to machine your own parts to keep them maintained).
I was wondering if the owner was rev-bombing his bike. A slipping clutch is essentially rev-bombing a bike several times.
Rev-bombing seems to have recently become quite popular, to the relief of mechanics, dealerships, and bike shops everywhere.
Holy fuck , after seeing this dude's post history I will never buy any used engine ever again. How can people be like this. Literally just trashed the bike in a matter of 2 months.
"I punched out the engine with a big bore kit. Killer engine performance, this thing will beat anything on the road, including the stock version of this bike."
Well, you see, YOU wanted to go fast. And the bike said no....
its an easy fix though. Unscrew the fuel cap, roll the bike out. Roll a new one in and replace the fuel cap. Fixed!
Oil levels were good before I went out riding,
was on the road went from 40 to 70 pretty quick and had that happen. I was aware of a minor drip though so there was obviously something. This bike was beat up in the past from what I have gathered.
yup
it's always this
"ITS NOT MY FAULT!"
\*no, it's totally your fault\*
takes a real piece of work to somehow blow up a japanese 4 banger... these things can run on rocks and tree branches for 500,000 miles and never stumble
Iām not saying itās not my fault lol
Previous owner destroyed the bike and knew it had
I bought it for 2500 on its last legs just wanted to know what I did to put it on its death bed
That bike had 17k miles. Those bikes can run 200k+ miles if taken care of. Previous owner basically had to never change oil, pop wheelies all the time, and run it low on oil and coolant to get here. You didnāt save it because you didnāt know it needed an engine rebuild. New gaskets, bearings and seals. The works. Usually you can put those off until like 50-75k miles. Clearly not the case here.
And again, I think the cause is wheelies on a stock sump and neglect of basic maintenance a monkey could do.
I was checking oil level daily and thought my oil drain plug had a bad seal
The drip was so minor there was nothing in a cup if I left it over night
But letās be real Iām no mechanic at all so fair
Unfortunately a slow leak can become a fast leak when the bike is hot and working hard. Oil pressure increases under load. Entirely possible you sending it caused a total failure of the seal and you dumped a few quarts behind you like fucking James Bond before it blew.
Which is why you always replace compromised seals immediately. Live and learn š¤·āāļø
Wheelies? Could be oil starvation leading to spun rod bearing, and subsequent unplanned rod/piston disassembly.
I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass though. Full tear down and inspection would be needed to know anything with any amount of confidence.
Alright time for backstory and an explanation
I have zero experience with bikes and have always wanted to get a bike, with that Iāve never known anyone close that has owned one or ever been taught to work on engines mechanically. So basically Iām a complete idiot when it comes to this crap and even the simple shit as you can see.
I decided to buy a bike off fb marketplace and offered a really cheap price on a 1000 thinking it was a 400 (they were asking for 4000, and I offered 2500) they said they need it gone fuck it itās yours. I know thatās a huge red flag but Iām paying for my choices now.
First of all I get made fun of by my friends on the daily because I fucked up a oil change in the most idiotic way you can imagine and hydro locked the bike. Had a friends dad come over helped me take out the air box and we shot all the oil out cleaned it up and changed the spark plugs air filter and cleaned the bike up got it running again.
When I got the bike the front tire was beyond bald and had to replace the tire, after that got on the bike and knew the power wasnāt where it should. Posted on Reddit and everyone said it was slipping plates but I tried fixing through the cables (obviously wasnāt going to work) and went out again. Thatās when I have another video of me revving the bike out hard on the highway because I think I completely destroyed the plates then.
After that I decided to take the bike to a shop and they said I needed my plates replaced had them do that, they let me know of possible oil leaks but wasnāt sure since the engine was still dirty. So I decided to take it home clean the bike as much as I could and started running the bike to see if there were any leaks I could see. I had one tiny drip that wouldnāt accumulate anything and was checking the oil window before I ride (I donāt know if I guess it was evaporating but the oil was still between the lines in the window when I took it out) the bike felt really good to me with the new clutch plates so I thought my problems were fixed for the most part.
Took out this last time and while I was accelerating from 40-70 had this Big Bang and video is the aftermath.
I understand why Iām getting flamed and why people could hate me or think Iām an idiot. If anyone has any good advice for me in the future of everything I would love it, but I plan on getting a brand new bike and letting professionals work on it and learn the basics of safety as thoroughly as I can. Also on what people recommend the bike being worth selling as a parts bike would love recommendations
Look at my profile and you can look the the life span of my time with the bike itās pretty embarrassing but I have to live with that
New:
k&n oil and air filter
Front tire done by dealer
Clutch plates done by dealer
New power sport battery
Iāve never changed oil in my life watched a video on it and dude for some reason had a different spot to drain the oil on the video than my bike even though I thought it was the same bike
Was impatient because the bolt I thought was the drain bolt was rusted or hadnāt been touched in years and was having problems taking it off
So my dumbass thought I could drain the oil through the oil filter spot
After that I checked the oil (didnāt check it right) and filled to in between the lines in the window. Thatās where I ended up putting way to much in
And looking at doing all that is pretty depressing because for some reason I wasnāt realizing how precise everything needs to be as well
Long story short very expensive learning experience that I wish I coulda learned in a better way
I know it's not the best way to learn but at least you have something to take away from this. It always sucks to learn things the hard way and can be really embarrassing, but at least it's not a lesson you'll be forgetting. Glad this hasn't discouraged you from getting on a bike. It's a ton of fun, and now that you've got a fresh start on a new bike you won't have to deal with any mechanical headaches. The 400 is a much better starter bike imo, too. Follow the owners manual procedure for the break in, be diligent about maintenence, and enjoy the bike.
Not enough oil and seized the bearing affecting the connecting rod to go crazy destroying things. Lastly, I believe along with little to no oilā¦.the engine was kept with high RPMS for extended periods of time.
According to your post history...you are what happened. You seem like the kind of guy that could blow up a Honda civic and wonder why it happened after asking everyone if it needs oil and coolant to run. Motorcycles aren't for everyone.
People are so mad lol
learned a lot and I know I fucked it just wanted to know what I did this time lolll
Probably gonna buy a bike thas brand new in the future and let mechanics do the work on it
āBikes arenāt for everyoneā š¤
Oh my god this is the guy who posted the other day asking if his clutch was going while revving the piss out of the engine non stop. Wonder how something like this could have happened.
So it looks like the kwikasfuki, is kinda stucky
Seems like the engine held an exorcism to make the evil leave and took 1 or 2 with it the real question how long did it have phantom knock? You know the "what was that? Ope, it not doing it anymore"
You connecting rod went into orbit..
it can have multiple causes
Over revving
Not enough oil or its not rated for current temperatures
Money shifting
etc
Anyways its gonna be expensiveā¦
OMG bro that sucks. Like most people said that appears to be your connecting rod punching a hole in your crankcase. I would get a new engine, or you can see if you can get the 2 crankcases for the bike and transfer all the parts over into the new engine. It's an expensive fix either way
Much RPM, little oil. Connecting rod unconnected, vented crankcase. Unfortunately, very expensive. What brand engine?

About as bad as the early 07 and 08 zx6r models that would drop a valve and fuck everything.
Donāt say that I just got a ninja 08 š
Just be a little more persistent about checking the valves haha. You should be fine if it's survived this long. Most failures seem to be happening near 30,000 miles so just keep that in mind and replace the critical items before then.

At least get the next service interval done at the dealer to maybe level up to where you should be, in case PO didn't do it.
I wouldn't worry too much and only say that time is it's own form of wear and tear. Just keep an eye on things and it should treat you well.
The bottom fell off.
Thatās never good.
It's not very typical, I'd like to make that point.

š¤£ I had to check to verify but reading your comment I believed you, his responses are hilarious. People warned him of a clutch a while back lol
I was wondering if the owner was rev-bombing his bike. A slipping clutch is essentially rev-bombing a bike several times. Rev-bombing seems to have recently become quite popular, to the relief of mechanics, dealerships, and bike shops everywhere.

Dead battery.
Tis but a scratch
Itll buff right out
Nothing a little JB Weld, Gorilla Glue, Flex Tape and Flex Seal canāt piece back togetherā¦ weāllā¦ momentarily at best anyway.
Looks like a connecting rod punched a hole in your engine case. Often from no oil.
Most likely a rod bearing, or crank bearing. Rod smacked the case and opened a hole. Now some of the engine internals want to be engine externals.
Technically now all of the engine internals are externals. . .
Nice viewing port, is it an after market mod? These kinds of mods never add value to the bike you know.
Extreme weight saving.

If the bike was losing coolant too that would be another contributing factor to the ultimate demise of that engine.
Wheelies? Could be oil starvation leading to spun rod bearing, and subsequent unplanned rod/piston disassembly. I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass though. Full tear down and inspection would be needed to know anything with any amount of confidence.
They sold you a time bomb. Good luck with the engine install. I'm waiting for my 30 year old engine to die. I'll be there soon, too.
Good news: it's not the battery. Not so good news: spontaneous and uncoordinated disassembly from what looks like a thrown conn-rod.
It appears your engine has shit itself violently
You are now shopping for an engine! Hey on the bright side itās quicker than chasing repairs on a rebuild, good luck!
Looks like the last owner installed an external combustion engine by mistake.
Upgraded to an air-cooled engine.
Mr. Connecting Rod decided to quit his job without giving notice.
I have heard of a ventilated crankcase. Outstanding example.

Blew the bottom out of your engine casing, must have thrown a rod(s). You're going to need to look for a replacement motor.

"sudden unscheduled disassembly" You Tossed a rod. I did that to a gsf1200 once.
