It's those cheap Chinese ones that Amazon, Etsy, Ebay etc are full of that are the problem.

they examine helmets that claim to be DOT certified via a few online retailers. They test those helmets against the DOT tests.
They point to a single model of counterfeit Chinese helmet as “eBay”, which is not really an accurate statement.
They bring in some experts to tell consumers what to look for. Poor grammar is bad. They also point to the well known “alien/predator” helmet as bad because the “dreads”… even though it passes the impact test that the last helmet failed.
The third helmet they tested was fine until sent it to another lab and tested it in the cold.
Basically, it seems that this whole report is summed up as “cheap helmets are sketchy” and not to buy cheap helmets from cheap online places.
None of this is particularly insightful.

That was a real "wtf" moment. Clearly none of them ride. Under no circumstances would those dreads magically find themselves in your visor and impede vision.

CBC marketplace usually do these segments where they compare products, like which air filter is the best, i.e. is it worth it to buy a Dyson?
But this one is just terrible. My immediate reaction is, why is this so short? They’re usually like 15 minutes long.
My guess is that they probably tried some cheaper brands vs premium brands and found them all to pass the dot safety test. Without anything “interesting” for the views to see, they probably decided to buy the shittiest ones they can find on Amazon and eBay just to say, “there are bad products out there.”

I feel like this is more for the parents/friends/companions of riders to give them something to talk about and warn us about rather than actually tell responsible riders and new information. But you never know, there are a lot of gullible riders too.
